Lionel Messi’s father Jorge is seemingly in Saudi Arabia to hold talks with Al-Hilal.

According to Tribalfootball Messi already has an ambassadorial deal with the Saudis as part of their attempts to win the 2030 World Cup hosting bid.

The Argentine World Cup winner plays for Paris Saint-Germain, and French reports had suggested that a renewal was possible.

However, Mundo Deportivo is now reporting that Messi’s father Jorge is in Riyadh discussing terms with Al-Hilal.

Any move would happen at the end of the season when Messi is a free agent.

The Saudi side are prepared to pay him £245 million-a-year to get him into the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo attacks critics over national team call-up

Super Eagles striker and Al Hilal goal poacher, Odion Jude Ighalo has taken a swipe on critics who frown at his re-invitation to the super Eagles in March’s double header worldcup qualifying playoffs against Ghana.

Ighalo, has been invited again to the national team squad for the playoffs after his former Saudi Arabian curbside Al shabab stopped him from representing Nigeria at the just concluded AFCON in Cameroon.

The striker has made it clear that he remains unfazed by criticisms of him wanting to stage a return to the national team

Ighalo has been in a good goal scoring form, after notching in 5 goals in 6 matches for his new club Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.

“I don’t pay attention to that. Everything they’re saying is their own cup of tea. At my age, I just signed for a new team. This is my 11th team in my professional career.

“I have been called up, I will take my bag and I will go to represent my country and give my best on 100 percent.

“As long as I come out from every game and I’m satisfied with my performance — whether it is a win, loss, or draw — then that’s it. I’m a professional footballer.

“This is what I’ve been doing for 17-18 years so why would I be worried about what people say?”

Ighalo is full of hopes that Super Eagles will defeat Ghana to qualify for the WorldCup in Qatar .

Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Black Stars of Ghana in the 20,000 –capacity Cape Coast Sports Stadium as from 7.30pm on Friday 25th March, with the reverse leg set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March as from 6pm.

The winner of the two legged tie will join four other African countries to represent Africa at the 22nd FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled for 14th November – 18th December this year in Qatar.

FIFA Club World Cup: Chelsea beat Al Hilal to reach final

Chelsea made hard work of reaching the FIFA Club World Cup final with a 1-0 win against Al Hilal in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Thomas Tuchel’s side – playing without their coach following his positive coronavirus test – were in control from the outset.

They should as a result of this never have been in danger of becoming the first European champions to fall short of the final since Manchester United in 2000.

But slack play in the final third, when both shooting and playing the final pass, meant Romelu Lukaku’s first-half strike was their only goal.

As a result, Kepa Arrizabalaga had to step up at the other end.

Asian champions Al Hilal, who had scored six goals against Al Jazira in the previous round, remained in the game until the final whistle.

But they could not find the leveller to prevent Chelsea advancing to face Palmeiras in Saturday’s title-decider.

Setting the tone for much of the contest, Lukaku had initially been frustrated in his pursuit of a first goal in more than a month.

He repeatedly took up promising positions without finding the finishing touch.

But Chelsea’s record signing could not miss on 32 minutes when Kai Havertz’s cross bounced kindly off unwitting defender Yasser Al-Shahrani into the goal area.

It allowed the forward to slam into the net right-footed.

Havertz came close to scoring himself at the start of the second half as he followed a brilliant run down the left by beating Abdullah Al-Mayoof from a tight angle.

But the ball bounced back out off the near post.

With Al Hilal still just one behind, Kepa was twice required to come to Chelsea’s rescue.

At a point, he advanced from his line to block from Moussa Marega and later pulled off a sublime stop from Mohamed Kanno.

An extended spell of pressure followed, but Chelsea held on to give themselves a second shot at a first Club World Cup title after 2012’s final failure.

Chelsea will face Palmeiras on Saturday for the title after Al Hilal would have been in action in a third-place play-off against Al Ahly

Ighalo scores as Al Hilal book semi-final spot to face Chelsea

Al Hilal thumped hosts Al Jazira 6-1 on Sunday in Abu Dhabi to book their place in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals against Chelsea.

Al Jazira, who are 2020/2021 UAE Pro League champions, opened the scoring through Abdoulay Diaby after 14 minutes.

But goals from former English Premier League (EPL) forwards Odion Ighalo and Matheus Pereira put Al Hilal into the lead before the break.

That narrow lead was extended into an emphatic scoreline in the second half, as Mohamed Kanno, Salem Al-Dawsari, Moussa Marega and Andre Carrillo all found the back of the net.

Asian champions Al Hilal will now face European counterparts Chelsea in the last four on Wednesday, while Al Jazira meet Monterrey earlier that same day in the fifth-place play-off.
