I will retire Atiku to Kombina to start rearing goats, broilers – VP Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President,  Kashim Shettima has vowed to retire the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from politics.

According to him, he would retire Atiku to Kombina, to rear animals.

Shittima made the remark while addressing journalists after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal verdict, which upheld the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Tribunal resolved all the issues against the petitioners in favour of the respondents, President Tinubu, his Vice, Kashim Shettima and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

While the APM is yet to make its line of action known, both the PDP and the LP candidates, Abubakar Atiku and Peter Obi, respectively, have vowed to challenge the judgement at the Supreme Court.

They made their decisions public on Wednesday, shortly after the Tribunal dismissed their petitions.

However, Shettima said he would buy Atiku goats and broilers to rear.

According to Shettima: “We are not going to retire Atiku Abubakar to Dubai or Morocco. I will retire him to Kombina, I will buy him goats and broilers and layers so that he can spend his days rearing goats and broilers.”

Wike backtracks on promises to release Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for PDP rally in Rivers

The Nyesom Wike-led Rivers Government has backtracked on its promises to release the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for the rally of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Recall that the state government in January approved the venue for the event scheduled to hold on February 11.

Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green formally conveyed the decision of the administration to Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

The Sokoto born -politician is the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, PCC.

Governor Wike bacGreen cited alleged plot by the Atiku campaign to share the venue with a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, loyal to Tonye Cole, the governorship candidate.

The official said credible intelligence indicated the PDP council was working with the APC to “accommodate and share the approved facility”.

Green noted that government records show APC activities “have always been marred by violence due largely to irreconcilable internal conflicts within the party”.

The commissioner mentioned “shootings and killings” during protests that followed the nomination of delegates for primaries and detonation of explosives in the course of campaigns.

The letter said the Rivers government is unable to risk damage to the valuable stadium “which your use of the same in collaboration with your Tonye Patrick Cole APC faction will definitely expose it to”.

  • 2023: Fayose, Kolawole, others shun Atiku’s campaign rally in Ekiti

2023: Fayose, Kolawole, others shun Atiku’s campaign rally in Ekiti

Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose; former governorship candidate, Bisi Kolawole; acting PDP State Chairman, Lanre Omolase; seven of the nine PDP National Assembly candidates and 20 of 26 House of Assembly candidates all shunned the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally in the state.

However, other members of the Party all trooped out to receive the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, for a campaign rally on Tuesday.

Findings show that, earlier in the day, commercial vehicles and motorbikes had been off the roads leaving inter and state commuters stranded.

Although the PDP members alleged that the transporters did not work in a bid to frustrate those who might want to attend the rally, the commercial transport operators said their action followed statewide prayers observed by their associations.

Atiku, in his address to the rally, assured that if elected in the February 25 election, his administration would deploy all resources to attract socio-economic development, adding that he would be deliberate in the construction of roads leading to Ekiti State beginning with the Ado-Akure Road.

According to the Waziri of Adamawa, his administration will be ready to give the state a facelift if he emerges the president of the country.

He said “I am highly impressed with the huge crowd we are seeing here today despite antics of the APC government to cripple and sabotage the rally with artificial fuel scarcity and stoppage of drivers from Ekiti roads; let me assure you that we will make you happy for making us happy today.

  • 2023: Why I didn’t support Bukola Saraki – Dino Melaye explains

Former Senator who represented Kogi West at the red chamber of the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has given reasons he chose not to support  Senator Bukoala Saraki.

The Kogi born senator has disclosed why he supported the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, instead of ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki who happens to be his close ally.

Melaye posited that he opted for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar because he knew he would win the 2023 presidential election with a landslide victory.

Melaye made his position known when featuring on TVC’s current Affairs programme Journalist Hangout, adding that Atiku has got the qualities to unite Nigeria.

The former lawmaker insisted that he supported Saraki 100 per cent while he was with him.

According to Melaye, he never switched from Saraki because they still see each other.

He said: “I did not switch support from Saraki to Atiku. I was 100 per cent with Saraki when I was with him. I have no problem with Saraki, I still saw him this morning and we both laughed together.

“I chose Atiku this time because I have to stay with the known to the unknown. At this time, we need a unifier, who can unite Nigeria. One who cannot be seen as a Muslim, or Christian.

“Atiku is a popular person whose name is known in Nigeria. So, I moved from unknown to known. So, I did not switch support but support the man who can make Nigeria great.”

  • 2023: Forget your interest, support Peter Obi, POSN tells Atiku

2023: Forget your interest, support Peter Obi, POSN tells Atiku

The Peter Obi Support Network has urged former Nigeria’s Vice President and presidential hopeful seeking for party ticket under Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to forget his ambition and support former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi in his quest to be the party’s flag bearer.

Recall that both candidates have registered their interest in the country’s presidency and have been preparing for the forthcoming election in 2023.

The Peter Obi group had written a letter to Atiku urging him to step down his ambition in the interest of equity, justice and fairness.

The message was signed by the group’s Media and Communications Committee members, namely: Prince Emeka Kalu, Alhaji Kabir Garba, Adigun Makanjuola, Mr Marcel Ngogbehei and Comrade Sani Saeed Altukry.

The group said stepping down and supporting Obi would not only save the PDP and Nigeria, but also ensure that the Atiku/Obi ticket of 2019, which Nigerians missed, was returned to power in 2023 and ensure that their lofty manifesto was implemented for the benefit of all.

According to the group, the country as of today was in an extreme crisis, and it was at times like this that history and posterity recorded its greatest heroes and heroines.

It added that the zoning arrangement already in place put Peter Obi in the front runner as a good candidate from the South-East.

It urged Nigerians not to repeat the mistakes of 2015, adding that nobody should wish Nigerians another eight years of bad governance.

The group noted that if the PDP conceded its ticket to the South-East, it would be sending a message that would drown the APC

The statement read in part, “We write on behalf of millions of our members across Nigeria to call on you, our Party Leader, H.E Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (GCON), to seize the moment and show again the leadership you ably demonstrated in 2019 when you rose above primordial considerations to choose Mr. Peter Obi as the PDP Vice-Presidential Candidate; an action that got the entire country ‘Atikulated & Obligated.’

“The Atiku/Obi 2019 ticket has gone down in history as Nigeria’s most inspiring presidential ticket of all time, which in our view was an unfairly denied victory.

“Regardless of the foregoing, our relationship with you will last forever; and for the record, all of us in POSN were Atikulated & Obligated in 2019. Hence, for us, you are part and indeed the head of our family.

“As you are aware, Nigeria had President Olusegun Obasanjo (Southwest, 1999–2007) and President Goodluck Jonathan (South-south, 2010–2015), leaving the South-East outstanding.

“The All Progressives Congress has zoned its 2023 presidential ticket to the South; therefore, the PDP has no reason not to follow suit as a matter of law. To do otherwise will mean working against equity and fairness and inviting avoidable litigation and possible truncation of the PDP’s participation in the 2023 presidential election, which will give the APC a ‘walk-over-victory.’

“Stepping down and supporting Peter Obi will not only save the PDP and Nigeria, but also ensure that the Atiku/Obi ticket of 2019, which Nigerians so dearly missed, is returned to power in 2023 and ensure that their lofty manifesto is implemented for the benefit of all.”
  • 2023 Elections: Dino Melaye attacks Ayodele Fayose

2023 Elections: Dino Melaye attacks Ayodele Fayose

A former Senator, Dino Melaye, who represented Kogi West at the 8th assembly has called on the leadership l of the Peoples Democratic Party to warn Ekiti state former Governor Ayodele Fayose to stop de-marketing and de-valuing Senator Bukola Saraki and Alhaji Atiku, both are eyeing the presidential seat under the umbrella of PDP.

Melaye has also described the ambition of Ayodele Fayose as not being realistic calling him a ‘presidential gambler’

He was reacting to the comments by Fayose against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over the collection of the presidential nomination forms.

According to Melaye, the presidency of the country is not ‘Ponmo and Amala’ insinuating that it’s meant for serious minded persons.

Melaye described Fayose’s comment as a strategy to allegedly increase the supportership of his political godfather in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Recall that Fayose has declared interest in the presidency and had obtained nomination form under the PDP.
