2027: Tinubu’s endorsements a sign of desperation, not Public support — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dismissed recent endorsements of President Bola Tinubu by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and stakeholders, describing them as hollow gestures that do not reflect the will of Nigerians.

In separate statements on Sunday, both Atiku and the PDP portrayed the endorsements as evidence of anxiety within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections. They pointed to rising public discontent over Tinubu’s leadership, particularly on economic and security fronts.

Atiku’s spokesperson, Mazi Paul Ibe, likened the situation to a well-prepared student confidently awaiting an exam result, insisting the opposition coalition remains composed and ready.

“When you’ve studied hard, you sleep peacefully the night before the exam, confident of your performance. That’s exactly where our coalition stands,” Ibe said. “Nigerians—not political endorsements—will decide the outcome of the next election. These recent moves by the APC are simply signs of panic. Insecurity is worsening, with insurgents reclaiming territory in Borno and beyond. The cost of living is unbearable, and families can’t afford basic needs like food, healthcare, or education. Yet, instead of addressing these real issues, the government is playing politics.”

Ibe further alleged that the Tinubu administration is using anti-corruption agencies as tools to pressure opposition figures into defecting to the APC.

“These defections aren’t based on principle or belief in the APC. Political actors are being coerced. Many are being threatened with corruption charges stemming from their time in office—both under previous and current administrations. They’re essentially being blackmailed into switching parties. This has happened in places like Delta State. Even the so-called ‘silent bombshells’ are rooted in past crimes being used as leverage to force defections.”

PDP’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Umar Bature, echoed the sentiment, saying endorsements have little bearing on electoral outcomes. He cited the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who secured the backing of 21 governors in 2014 but still lost the election.

“Tinubu may have 22 endorsements, but that means nothing. What matters is governance—whether or not you’ve delivered for the people. Endorsements are surface-level optics. Politicians often resort to them when they sense they’ve lost public support,” Bature said.

He also downplayed any internal party tensions, stating: “There’s no crisis. Members have the right to express their opinions. If someone chooses to leave the party, so be it. Time will reveal the truth. These things often sort themselves out.”

Don’t run for presidency again- Baba-Ahmed Urges Atiku

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum and ex-Political Adviser to the Vice President, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step back from his long-standing pursuit of Nigeria’s presidency.

According to him, Atiku who has contested the presidency six times, should now assume the role of a statesman and support emerging leaders.

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed expressed the same sentiments he shared in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu on April 23, where he advised Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027. He argued that the country’s current state calls for a generational shift in leadership.

“If I could speak with Atiku, I would tell him the same thing I told President Tinubu—step aside and support a younger, more dynamic generation,” Baba-Ahmed stated, stressing that both the ruling APC and the opposition PDP need fresh, visionary candidates.

He suggested that the PDP stands a better chance in 2027 if it fields a younger, healthier candidate with integrity and innovative ideas. “Nigerians are desperate for leadership rooted in competence and empathy,” he said, dismissing the importance of regional origin in leadership selection.

Baba-Ahmed also cast doubt on whether Atiku or Labour Party’s Peter Obi could have outperformed President Tinubu, though he acknowledged Obi’s potential and ideas. Nevertheless, he maintained that the older generation of politicians must bow out. “The best service they can render now is to retire or be retired by voters,” he said.

Addressing speculation around his resignation from the Tinubu administration earlier this year, Baba-Ahmed said he accepted the appointment out of patriotism but left due to a lack of seriousness in governance. Despite being designated as a senior political adviser, he claimed he was never truly involved in policy matters nor had direct access to the president.

“I took the job hoping to contribute meaningfully to rebuilding the country. But there was no commitment, no drive,” he said. “I never even met the president during my tenure.”

He emphasized that while Vice President Shettima was not sidelined, the administration lacked the urgency to tackle the nation’s deepening problems. “I wouldn’t take the job again,” he said. “I don’t regret accepting it, but I saw no real will to fix Nigeria.”

Baba-Ahmed also criticized the APC for becoming a haven for politicians seeking protection from prosecution. “People aren’t defecting to APC for policy reasons—they’re looking for safety,” he said, adding that the EFCC lacks the independence to tackle corruption effectively.

He reserved his harshest criticism for former President Muhammadu Buhari, calling him the worst leader Nigeria has had. Despite supporting him in 2015, Baba-Ahmed said Buhari governed with apathy and failed to prioritize the country’s needs. “He didn’t represent the North or any real agenda just himself,” he said.

Comparing the Tinubu administration to Buhari’s, Baba-Ahmed noted that the country’s challenges particularly in the North have only worsened. “More lives are being lost now than before, but officials claim violence is down. Where do they get their data?” he asked.

He warned that Nigerians are losing patience with leadership that lacks vision, accountability, and empathy.

Senator Shehu Sani likens Atiku’s visit to Buhari as ‘Trekking in the Sahara’”

Former lawmaker who represented  kaduna central, Senator Shehu Sani, has likened Atiku Abubakar’s visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura as ‘trekking in the Sahara’.

According to Sani, Atiku’s visit to Buhari, would have been okay, if the purpose was related to Sallah.

He, however, said it’s like trekking in the Sahara, if it was a political mission.

The Kaduna born politician made this known on his X handle on Sunday.

His post reads: “If the Daura visit is a sallah homage, that’s okay. If it’s a political mission, it’s like trekking in the Sahara.”

Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the last general election visited Buhari on Saturday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

Atiku was accompanied by the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, alongside other PDP stakeholders.

    PDP felicitates Atiku @77

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has celebrated former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on his 77th birthday, describing his love for Nigeria as unwavering.

The PDP said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Saturday.

Ologunagba described Abubakar as national Icon of Democracy, a quintessence of humility, a kind-hearted, humane and people-focused leader.

“Abubakar is a forthright administrator and courageous statesman, who remains unwavering in his love and commitment towards Nigerians and the unity, stability and development of our dear nation,” he said.

He said that the PDP remained proud of Abubakar’s record of performance in the service of the nation, especially in bringing his capacity and competence to bear as the Chairman of the National Economic Council under the Obasanjo/Atiku-led PDP administration between 1999 and 2007.

He said that during the period Abubakar achieved unprecedented national productivity in all sectors and grew the economy to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

“His role in the National Economic Council is always recognised and celebrated for helping the administration achieve vast infrastructural development, massive employment and business opportunities among other initiatives that made the PDP years in government the Nigerian golden years.

“Nigerians across all persuations recognise Abubakar as the embodiment of our national unity and hope for economic recovery, “ he said.

Ologunagba said that Nigerians demonstrated this in their overwhelming support and massive vote for Abubakar in the 2019 and 2023 Presidential election.

He described Abubakar as a lesson in leadership, adding that in spite his towering personality, he remained humble, friendly and accessible to all, especially youths.

“He continues to demonstrate that the essence of leadership is in attending to the good, happiness and wellbeing of others instead of oneself,” Ologunagba said.

He added that the nation would have been on the path of economic prosperity, massive infrastructure development and employment opportunities if elected Abubakar had been elected as the president.

He thanked God for spearing Abubakar and prayed to Him to grant the former-president more wisdom, sound health and vigour in the service of the country and humanity.

2027: Atiku calls for merger of political parties to challenge APC

Following his failed aspiration to clinch the presidential ticket, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on the opposition political parties to merge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027.

According to Atiku,  the opposing political parties should form a coalition because APC was pushing Nigeria into dictatorship and a one-party state.

Atiku spoke while receiving a delegation from the national executive committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Tuesday.

Continuing, the Adamawa born politician  noted that Nigeria’s democracy would suffer if there is no viable opposition.

According to Atiku: “You have come here today to say that we should cooperate in order to promote democracy.

“But the truth of the matter is that our democracy is fast becoming a one-party system, and of course, you know that when we have a one-party system, we should just forget about democracy.

“We have all seen how the APC is increasingly turning Nigeria into a dictatorship of one party.

“If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn. The project of protecting democracy in our country is not about just one man.”

CSU: Obi rejects Atiku’s invitation, reveals next line of action

Peter Obi the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP) has rejected offers by his counterpart in the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to join him in the ongoing battle against President Bola Tinubu.

Yesterday in Abuja the former vice president had during an International Press Conference  urged Obi and Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party, (NNPP) to join his fight for justice.

This is coming on the heels of the controversy surrounding President Tinubu’s certificate which Atiku obtained from the Chicago State University, CSU.

Atiku, who alleged that Tinubu forged the certificate he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, made it clear on Thursday that he intended to employ the academic records provided by CSU as part of his litigation against the president in the Supreme Court.

However, Obi on Friday morning via a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh said he is currently busy seeking to reclaim his stolen mandate at the Supreme Court.

The statement reads, “The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi is presently in the Supreme Court seeking to reclaim his stolen mandate and he is focused on that.

“He has been in the vanguard of ensuring a just nation where justice must be the watchword, and he will not stop until Nigeria achieves a leadership it truly deserves.

“Obi has pontificated severally on the need for leaders to be good role models and to live a life worthy of emulation. This he has done by publicly putting his credentials in the open for verification. Nigeria will get better when men of integrity and honour drive the affairs of the nation.

“We therefore welcome every other interest willing to join us in our pursuit of a nation where justice shall reign.”

How we deliberately left Lagos for Tinubu in 2007 – Atiku

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) presidential candidate, has made some startling revelations about him, President Bola Tinubu, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007.

According to Atiku, he had to beg Obasanjo to allow Tinubu control Lagos State in 2003 because PDP took over the entire Southwest.

He insisted that Tinubu worked for the late President Umar Yar’Adua, stressing that he won his primary election held in Lagos in 2007 on merit.

The PDP 2023 flag bearer disclosed this during his world press conference to address the Chicago State University saga in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Atiku: “Tinubu didn’t support me in 2007, at the primaries held in Lagos, I won on merit. He later sent people to me so he can be my running mate but I don’t like Muslim Muslim ticket, till date, I will never support it.

“In 2007, Tinubu worked for Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to win.

“Whereas I was the one who asked OBJ, in 2003, to leave Lagos State for him, we took all other South-West states but we deliberately left Lagos for Tinubu, unfortunately, he supported Yar’Adua against me.”

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was present at the Thursday hearing of petitions and applications at the Presidential Election Petitions Court, (PEPC) sitting in Abuja.

Also present in court were the former governors of Adamawa, Boni Haruna, Niger, Babangida Aliyu, Cross River, Liyel Imoke and Adamawa, Jubrilla Bindow as well as former National Chairman of PDP, Mr Uche Secondus, and Chairman of DAAR Communications, Mr Raymond Dokpesi.

The tribunal will be hearing Atiku and the PDP’s motions seeking live transmission of proceedings of the court as well as petitions challenging the outcome of the Feb. 25 Presidential Election.

In today’s proceedings, the court is also expected to hear Atiku’s application, pushing for live broadcast of the day to day proceedings with regards to his petition.

Atiku and the PDP are specifically asking the court for an order directing the court’s registry and the parties on modalities for admission of media practitioners and their equipment into the courtroom.

The application filed on their behalf by their team of lawyers led by Mr Chris Uche, SAN, is predicated on the grounds that the matter before the court is a dispute over the outcome of the Presidential Election held on Feb. 25.

They argue that the matter is of national concern and public interest, involving citizens and voters in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, who voted and participated in the said election.

They also said that the matter is critical because the international community is also interested as regards the workings of Nigeria’s electoral process.

According to Atiku, being a unique electoral dispute with a peculiar constitutional dimension, it is a matter of public interest whereof millions of Nigerian citizens and voters are stakeholders with a constitutional right to receive.
