Ondo governor, Akeredolu apologizes over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tendered an unreserved  apology to Christian clerics over his previous comment supporting Muslim-Muslim ticket of his party the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Akeredolu appealed to the clerics to accept what they have to offer, adding that they should forgive and give them a chance.

An aide to the governor and the chief press secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde, gave the speech on behalf of the Governor on Monday in Akure the state capital.

According to the statement, the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum spoke on Sunday at the 40th Holy Ghost Convention Dinner of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Akeredolu called for understanding on the need for power to return to the Southern region years after tilting towards the Northern part of the country.

The statement reads in part: He said, “I understand our feelings because I am one of you. I am a Christian. All of us here are worried. What will be our gain, and that, why is my party, the APC, throwing up a Muslim-Muslim ticket?

“It has been a real issue for all of us; even members of the party. We have debated it, fought it and done so many things about it. I have always said to people, that my fight was for a Southern President. Now it has come to the South-West, will I now throw the baby away with the bathwater? Can I, in all honesty, do it? Should I, in all honesty, do it?

“We call it a matter of coincidence. It is a matter of conscience. All of us are here, why don’t we look at it from one angle? The buck stops on the table of the President. Do we have a capable hand who can manage the affairs if given the opportunity? Do you have a man who is bold enough to challenge incursions into our land? That is it.

“All of us here have lived together for years, and we didn’t allow religion to cause a fight among us. We have Muslims in our families and there is no fight. We have many leaders in Yoruba land who have both Muslims and Christians in their families and there is no fight.

“So, we want to appeal to our people that this is our time. I want to appeal to all our senior pastors and general overseers to help talk to their followers. We politicians can only do little. This is our time, please don’t be angry.”

2023 Election: Bola Tinubu questions PDP’s existence

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has questioned the opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s  existence years after plunging the country into its present woeful conditions.

The Lagos-bred politician asked the question during the door-to-door campaign unveiling of himself and running mate Shettima in Abuja.

The former Governor of Lagos also described the PDP as a party that lacks direction.

“They spent 16 years and forgot that there is a railway infrastructure that can do haulage, human carriage, animal husbandry, and food carriage across the length and breadth of the country.

“They (PDP) got there and turned it into an incubator. I wonder why they still exist as a party. These are people still fighting for the leadership of their party, looking for the direction of the compass.

“We don’t need to worry about the PDP — poverty development party. Today, let’s lower the temperature. It’s not the time to campaign yet. They will hear a lot from us,” Tinubu said.

The Ogun East politician used the avenue of his official unveiling as a PDP member to empower the people of Ogun East  by distributing,  grinding machines, generators, dryers, clippers among others to skilled persons in the community.

The Edo-born politician made this statement while granting an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday.

The former APC National Chairman said Nigerians should stop blaming Tinubu for issues with Buhari’s government.

CAN president, Archbishop Okoh speaks on Muslim-Muslim ticket

The newly inaugurated president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh on Thursday posited that many Christians have the genuine fear that there is a deliberate plan to remove the Christian faith from the scheme of things and marginalize them.

Okoh further explained that their fear was as a result of recent happenings in the country’s polity.

He frowned at the same faith ticket despite the outcry from CAN

“That is, the same-faith ticket in one of the major political parties in Nigeria despite the caution raised by CAN since two years ago.”

In his acceptance speech in Abuja after the General Assembly of CAN validated his election, Okoh said: “We are coming in at the time that all of us in the Christian faith, believe that some section of political leaders are not sensitive to the diverse nature of our population when certain decisions are being made.

“Whatever happens, no matter how many times our sensibilities are insulted, we must resolve to make a positive impact on the political, economic, and social systems of our dear nation.”

  • Grant one-hour interview, show your mental alertness – Atiku tells Tinubu

Grant one-hour interview, show your mental alertness – Atiku tells Tinubu

Former Nigeria vice president and the current presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  Atiku Abubakar has challenged his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant at least one-hour television interview before castigating his comments on Arise TV.

Recall that Atiku had attacked Tinubu for flying a Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying that he didn’t consider the Christians before taking such a decision.

According to Atiku, he refused to allow Tinubu to be his running mate when he lobbied in 2007, and that caused a separation between them,

He further revealed that Tinubu then switched camp and supported Late Yar’Adua

However, in a swift reaction, Tinubu’s Campaign Organization in a statement on Saturday, said the PDP presidential candidate lied and was unprepared for the job of the presidency.

The group analyzed six areas Atiku lied in his interview, as he argued that contrary to Atiku’s claim, it was the PDP candidate that wanted him to be his running mate.

Reacting to Tinubu’s outburst, Atiku in a statement by its Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Saturday, said he was amused to read the knee-jerk response from the Tinubu Campaign Organization, challenging the APC candidate to grant the same interview.

The former Vice President said he was not surprised at Tinubu’s response because he has not sat down to do any prolonged interview for obvious reasons.

The statement reads partly, “We would like to challenge Bola Tinubu to subject himself to an hour-long interview as the Waziri did, and if he can be as articulate and mentally present as our candidate, then he can talk.

“Until then, we will only want to remind him and his yes men that they are not in a position to point fingers when they have not sat on the hot seat.”

The Iwo Oba has also appealed to the people of Osun state to co-operate with the governor-elect.

Oluwo’s message to Adeleke came at a time Gov Oyetola was still contemplating going to the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election that returned Adeleke as the winner.

Recall that the monarch had before the election promised to deliver 90,000 votes to the incumbent governor

“I am confident of delivering 90,000 votes for Governor Oyetola.” He said

But, the outcome of the election was far below Oba’s expectations as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) lost to the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement signed and released by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem on Friday via the Oba’s social media handles, Oluwo commended Adeleke for his “tenacity, courage, and commitment” to his goal, praying for divine wisdom and understanding to effectively manage the state.

He called for collaborative efforts with technocrats and appealed to the people of Osun state to cooperate with the governor-elect so that Osun would continue to be great in the face of global economic hardship.

Shettima’s Unveiling: “Bishop Ugokwe” speaks, confirms attendance

One of the “Bishops” who attended the unveiling of Bola Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Wednesday has spoken out.

The ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC) presented Kashim Shettima as its vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country.

“I have seen ‘many’ fake news about me and my foundation. It’s okay. Anybody can write what they want to generate traffic.

  • CAN denies Bishops at Shettima’s unveiling, says they are fake

CAN denies Bishops at Shettima’s unveiling, says they are fake

The Christian Association of Nigeria  (CAN)  has frowned at the presence of Bishops at the unveiling ceremony of Kashim Shettima as All Progressive Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate in Abuja today.

CAN dissociate itself from Bishops who attended the unveiling of Bola Tinubu and  Kashim Shettima, adding that they were desperados who went for their aggrandizement.

The organization said that although the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was free to “hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them”, that effort would only add to their many ropes but would not change the need for fairness and justice.

The Vice President of CAN (19 Northern States and Abuja) and its chairman in Kaduna State, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

He said, “The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishop garments. Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie.

“CAN wonders why the desperation. First, a story was out claiming to have come from the Chairman of CAN Borno state only to be refuted. Secondly, there was another lie that BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) and his running mate were on their way to meet CAN President one night. A meeting that was not true and was on a night that the CAN President was in Alabama USA attending the Baptist World Alliance Conference of which he is the Vice President.

“Another desperation story was that they met Papa Adeboye which the RCCG later refuted. If Christians are not important why the desperation?

“BAT is free to hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them. An effort that will only add to their many ropes when the political exercise is over but will not change the need for fairness and justice that CAN is calling for.

“CAN appreciate that we are in a democracy, no need to do funny and dubious things just to prove a point because it will in the end bounce back. BAT team should simply do what is right and stop the drama.”
