2023 presidency: Amaechi blasts Kalu for supporting Ahmed Lawan

Presidential aspirant under the auspices of All Progressive Congress (APC) Rotimi Amaechi has blasted Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu, for queuing behind the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan in the presidential race.

Reacting to Kalu’s support for Lawan, Amaechi said that the former Abia state Governor is not relevant to the 2023 Presidential aspiration of the South-East.

Kalu withdrew from the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Presidential race and backed Lawan’s ambition.

The former Abia State Governor said he decided to withdraw from the race because APC has no zoning arrangement.

Amaechi further explained that the likes of Orji Kalu can’t make any difference to the pursuit of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.

“Orji Uzor Kalu and his likes have the right to support anybody they want to support for the President of Nigeria in the 2023 Presidential election. They are, however, not so relevant in Igbo land; they can’t make any difference.

“If such people who have no relevance in South-East are saying otherwise to the demand of their people, how do you blame them? They cannot make any difference and so nobody should lose sleep about their actions and utterances, you may not even know what their plans are,” He said

2023 Elections: APC fixes date for sale of nomination forms

All Progressives Congress (APC) will begin sale of expression of interest and nomination forms on Tuesday. The exercise which was already billed to start on Saturday was postponed due to some logistics problems and administrative challenges.

A source within the APC has disclosed that Tuesday is a visible date for the exercise to kick start in a make shift office in Abuja because of the renovation going on at the Abuja APC secretariat.

It was gathered that nomination forms for aspirants to the State House of Assembly will be sold in the various states as the party has decided to send this category of forms to each of 36 State headquarters of the party.

According to the source “The sales of expression of interest and nomination forms will now start nationwide on Tuesday.

“For those aspiring for other positions from House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and Presidential, their forms will be sold by the National Secretariat at a designated place to be announced by Monday. The ongoing renovation at the Mohammadu Buhari House necessitated the change in venue of sales.” Our source further said: “but for the delay in the delivery of the forms by the printers, the NWC is committed to concluding all arrangements for the conduct of primaries as scheduled by INEC.

”We will do everything possible to start the process by Tuesday 26th of April”

“We are good to go by Tuesday. Detail information about the exercise will soon be made known to the Press,”

  • Ebonyi State APC knocks Wike over comments on Umahi’s defection suit

Ebonyi State APC knocks Wike over comments on Umahi’s defection suit

The All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State on Sunday described Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, outburst against Governor David Umahi’s defection suit, as reckless and an affront on the Judiciary.

Chairman of Ebonyi APC, Stanley Okoro-emegha stated this in a statement while reacting to media reports credited to Wike who was quoted as saying he was one of the forces behind the ruling of an Abuja High Court, which ordered for the sack of Umahi and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe from office for defecting to APC from the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

The APC Chairman advised Wike to leave Umahi alone and focus on solving the many problems bedeviling his State.

“The attention of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to the reckless outburst of the primitive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

“The Rivers State Governor was reacting to the very unjust and widely condemnable Federal High Court ruling which recently sacked Governor Umahi and his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe,” he said.

Emegha stated that ‘after listening to Governor Wike’s rcekless tirades against Governor Umahi, which is very characteristic of him, the Ebonyi APC feels obligated to reply the garrulous, highly pompous but poorly performing Governor of Rivers State, and to place him where he rightly belongs’.

The Ebonyi APC Chairman claimed that there is no comparison between the ‘widely rated performing Governor of Ebonyi State,David Umahi, and the “power-drunk” Wike in any area.

“Governor Umahi has clearly surpassed the sleeping Governor of Rivers state in all indexes of performance both in private life and in public service,” he added.

He said that it is a measure of the rot in our democracy that a Governor pp will have no qualms in publicly reprimanding and threatening to deal with a fellow Governor over an issue that is before a court of competent jurisdiction.

“It speaks to the malaise in the Nigeria judiciary, and further lends credible credence to the insinuations that our judicial system are indeed being manipulated by some powerful forces against the ordinary Nigerians.”

While noting Umahi has since appealed the judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja, Emegha expressed hope that the appellate Courts will upturn the ruling of the lower court as it is not in consonance with any of the already established legal precedents on the issue of defection in the country.

Adding: “Having said that, Nigerians are however invited to note that the current travails of Governor David Umahi has nothing whatsoever to do with offending any law, but a clear case of political enemies persecuting a performing Governor because of his rising political profile as indicated by the utterances of Governor Wike.

“Wike should know that it is God that lifts and not mortals like him. So, no amount of his evil plots will be portent enough as to be able to dislodge nor remove a serving Governor who was single-handedly installed by God Himself for a unique purpose for His people.

“Wike and his co-travelers should go to hell and burn to ashes if they cannot accept the verdict of God which has clearly positioned Governor Umahi as the most qualified and preferred aspirant to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, and stop behaving like sadists who are hell-bent on equalizing misery.”

The Ebonyi APC Chairman noted that the party and the people of Ebonyi State and indeed all lovers of democracy will continue to support and pray for Governor Umahi, not only for the restoration of his mandate, but also for his victory as the president of Nigeria in 2023.

According to him, “If not that Governor Umahi has warned us against attacking any leader or Governor on his behalf, I would have properly situated the despicable character in Rivers State Government House who now masquerades as a Governor.

“However Governor Wike is once again advised to focus his attention on solving the numerous developmental challenges bufetting his Rivers State, and stop dissipating energy sounding like the godfather of the Nigeria body-polity.”

Umahi defected to the APC from the PDP, the party on whose banner he won election twice as governor of Ebonyi state, in November 2020.

But the PDP instituted a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja urging the court to sack the governor and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe for the defection.

It argued that the votes belongs to the party and not the governor and his deputy.

The Court presided by Justice Inyang Ekwo agreed with the PDP and ordered the governor and deputy to vacate their seats immediately.

It also ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue certificates of return to two nominees from the PDP to replace the Messrs Umahi and Igwe or to conduct another election for the two positions.

The PDP immediately nominated and forwarded the names of Iduma Igariwey, a House of Representatives member and Fred Udogu, a former State Chairman of the party as replacements for the two positions.

Umahi, however, rejected the ruling and headed to the appeal court asking the higher court to upturn the ruling.

  • Ngige escapes attack as Anambra APC meeting turns violent

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Sunday escaped a mob attack at a meeting of the All Progressives Congress in a hotel in Awka, Anambra State.

The meeting, it was gathered, was for the harmonisation of the results of the party’s ward congresses held on Saturday.

As gunshots pervaded the scene, Ngige was whisked away by security agents.

Security personnel repeatedly shot into the air to scare the mob who charged at the minister.

The protesters alleged that the minister was trying to rig the result of the ward congresses in his favour.

A member of the state’s ward congress committee, who was identified only as Ali was not that lucky to escape as he was beaten to a pulp and stripped naked on allegations that he was among those drafted to the state to work for Ngige.

The candidate of the APC in the November 18,2017 governorship election in Anambra, Dr. Tony Nwoye, had openly accused Ngige in the meeting of plotting to hijack the party in the state.

In the harmonisation meeting held to address the discrepancies in the party’s ward congresses, Nwoye told Ngige that he was usurping the functions of the congress committee by asserting that ward congresses took place on Saturday in the state while it did not.

Nwoye said he had been refraining from speaking about Ngige’s audacity and impunity over the affairs of the party in the state to avoid being accused of being bitter because he ran and lost election on the platform of the party.

He said, “Some of you here worked against me during that election, but my joy is that I lost the election and you lost too, because most of you have not risen beyond the falling point.

“We have failed as a party because we do not have any position in Anambra State but it will not work for people to put this party in their pocket so that they can write election results in their houses.

“I will not let Ngige take the function of the panel. We have a panel that is supposed to conduct that congress, and they just came here today (Sunday), whereas you are trying to tell us that elections were held yesterday. How can Ngige be the one to conduct the congress when there is a committee?

“As of 7pm on Saturday, people were being denied the forms because they wanted to contest positions, and what that means is that the forms have been given out to those they like. We will not let that happen.”

Ngige, who took offence over what he described as a personal attack on his person by Nwoye, said there was no trouble in the party, describing it as a brotherly affair.

He said, “We do not have trouble here and we are here to further the cause of the party. People were querying the guidelines given by the NEC of the party, and I said no. The issue was over zoning of positions. We said go to the ward and if anyone resigns, we replace him, because this is a brotherly contest.”

Some members of the party who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said the attack on Ngige was premeditated.

“Nwoye and his people are still aggrieved over the role played by Ngige during the governorship election where Tony Nwoye lost.

“They also believe that he is still working to hijack the party and remain lord in the state. That is the main reason for the attack on Ngige,” a party member said.
