2023 presidency: Tinubu can’t preside over Nigeria – Prof. Adeyeye

Professor Olusola Adeyeye has disclosed that former Lagos state Governor and current national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not have the capacity to preside over the country.

The two-term senator who represented Osun Central Senatorial District between 2011 to 2019 under the auspices of All Progressive Congress (APC) made his position known while being featured on a radio programme in Ibadan on Saturday.

Adeyeye, who was the chairman of the Rauf Aregbesola second term re-election campaign in 2014, posited that anyone seeing Tinubu as a messiah is missing it.

“I am making bold to say anyone still looking at Tinubu as the candidate to beat isn’t reading the tea leaves properly.

“Tinubu is already unravelling publicly and even a lot of those who ordinarily would have loved to support him are right now having a rethink the more of him they see. He has proved to be gaffe-prone and certainly unhealthy.

“The Southern electorate is very sophisticated and none more so than the section of the electorate in the South-West. There is a reason he has been christened ‘Baba Alagbado’ and it is not for political sagacity!

“Time catches up with everybody and it has caught up with Tinubu. It takes those who truly love him, not sycophants, to tell him that it’s time to go stretch out on some lush lawns and play with his grandchildren.

“The Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not for his type.

Former senate president Ken Nnamani Joins presidential race

Former senate president, Ken Nnamani has declared his intention to run for the country’s presidency in 2023.

Nnamani made his intention known to the public in a press conference held in Abuja on Friday .

Nnamani further revealed that he would contest under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), 2023 Presidential Primary.

The former senate president under the administration of president Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he would purchase the nomination form in few days time.

He said “I consider this a good development as it shows that our democracy is growing to the point of significant inclusivity and democratic freedom.

“The bedrock of democracy is that right of citizens to aspire to political offices and offer themselves to other citizens to evaluate and elect them to make decisions for the rest of the society.

“The responsibility to choose the best amongst the qualified for the office rest on the citizens. In the case of the party primary, that responsibility rests on the party delegates chosen according to law for that purpose.

“In the days to come, I will be consulting and communicating with our party delegates who have the responsibility to choose the best to fly our flag in the competitive presidential election in 2023.

“Looking at the array of aspirants to replace President Buhari in 2023 under the platform of the APC, I believe that I am very suited for the job of the President of the republic at this period in the history of Nigeria.

“We will all agree that President Buhari met enormous challenges. In spite of the challenges we face, we have to acknowledge Mr President’s patriotism which manifests in the unshaken belief that Nigeria will move past the current problems and setbacks.

“With rigour and commitment, he has been dealing with the crises of stability and development since 2015, when he became President in a historic mandate that inaugurated the first democratic transition from one party to another.

“As members of the ruling party, we have to step forward to tackle these difficult challenges and continue in the spirit of courage and patriotism.

“I believe that every period in the history of a country requires a particular kind of leader. Nigeria faces very tough challenges now more than ever. It is at a time like this that we need a man of tested integrity and competence to mobilize Nigerians to overcome these tough challenges.

“My pedigree as the President of Senate and Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Constitutional and Electoral Reform shows beyond doubt that I am that man.

“Different period requires a different kind of leadership. In 2015, we needed a Buhari to take Nigeria away from the misdirection of the Peoples Democratic Party. In 2023, we need a leader who knows how to work across the divides and lead a coalition for competent and dedicated Nigeria to lay foundations for social stability and prosperity.

“We need tested and trusted leaders who would reignite hope in the hearts of young Nigerians and unlock the competencies that we are losing to other nations. In 2023, we will need a Ken Nnamani to help unite Nigeria, deepen democracy, and rebuild the social and economic infrastructure of sustainable development based on production and fair distribution.”

2023: I have not stepped down from the presidential race – Kalu

Former Abia state governor and Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has denied rumours speculating that he has stepped down his presidential ambition.

Kalu, Senator representing Abia North Senatorial Zone made the clarification in Igbere, his country home while fielding questions from journalists.

Kalu said that some persons who read his recently published statement about equity twisted it to send the wrong information to the public.

The former Abia governor made it clear that he was still in the race, but would declare officially when his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South-East.

“My stand is very clear. I didn’t drop, I’ve never dropped and I didn’t drop. My advice was for our brothers from South-South and South-West to support us in the South East.

“They came out en masse to run for president which is not right. Because if there must be equity, the equity must be South-East.

“I don’t want to see people from South-South and South-West talking about equity. President Jonathan was the Vice President and President for six years. Obasanjo was president for eight years. Osinbajo will be Vice President for eight years soon.

“So, if there’s any name called equity and justice, it is South-East. Unless that equity is done to us, any other person can run for president including People from Daura.

“That’s the issue. If we want to talk about equity, every aspirant from South-South and South-West should drop and support us. Unless the ticket will be open for all Nigerians. This is my stand. I’ve never said I’m dropping for anybody”, Kalu reaffirmed.

2023: Osinbajo reveals what he learnt under president Buhari

Nigeria’s current vice President Yemi Osinbajo has given details of what his principal President Muhammadu Buhari told him about the Presidency of Nigeria.

Osinbajo made this revelation on Monday during his visit to Akure the Ondo state capital to meet with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Osinbajo was full of praises for Buhari for assigning key responsibilities to him since the All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed power in 2015.

The VP further commended the President for his “open mindedness and generosity”

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) recalls many things he learnt as the Acting president when the president Buhari was away on medical trips.

“Even people in government will never come across and I gained a lot of experience on that account.

“Many times, the President, when he was away, said pointedly to me that: Look, I don’t want to feter your discretion in any way.

“As Acting President, you are president. Make sure you are fair and just. Don’t refer anything to me, don’t ask me any questions. Just do whatever you need to do.”

The vice president noted that it would be an injustice for him to have learnt a lot and not put them into use.

2023 Elections: Group woos General Buratai for presidency

Former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republique du Benin General Tukur Buratai is being wooed by a political and economic advocacy group known as Fusion 774 to join the 2023 presidential race in the country.

Fusion 774 has made it intention known to foot the bill and pay for the All Progressives Congress presidential nomination form if General Buratai obliges.

The statement reads in part “The call by the members of the group was borne out of the security challenges facing the country. The 23 years of Nigeria’s democratic experiment had witnessed different threats to its survival such as civil disturbances which required experienced hands to pilot its affairs.

“Nigeria is currently in very challenging times and it is important to decide on the right leadership, a leadership with the capacity and ability to deliver and make the country work.

“The achievement of Buratai as a service chief in the fight against insurgency is a pointer to his sterling quality and qualification to vie for the highest office in the land.

“With his achievements, we can see that Buratai is one courageous leader who could step in and bring the much-needed solution to the security challenge and the desired development for the country.

“Fusion 774 is simply the unification of political strength of the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria into a virile, strong and formidable political front. By this announcement, we are prepared to purchase the APC nomination form for him in the event that he declares his acceptance and readiness to contest.”

The coordinator of fusion 774 says the group agrees with rotational governance for all the regions in order to have a sense of belonging and participation in the country’s governance but believe that merit should be considered above other options.

The group stated that it reached an agreement that rotational governance should be discarded with the mindset that any candidate with capacity and ability to proffer solutions to the problems confronting the country be duly considered.
