  • “No PVC, no salary”- Anambra firm tells workers

    A law firm in Anambra state has revealed plans to the salaries of their employees without a Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

     

    A lawyer with handle @itzmunachi took to Twitter to share a copy of the internal memo released to this effect.

     

    The firm declared June 9 and 10 as a work-free day for their employees to go register and get their PVCS ahead of the general elections in 2023.

     

    According to the memo, anyone who doesn’t have a PVC will not be paid salary from henceforth.

    Obi

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that the firm’s action was to ensure the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, would be voted for by the workers.

     

    Meanwhile Obi has received a certificate of return as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for next year’s general elections.

    PVC

     

    The former governor Anambra State governor received the certificate of return from the party on Friday.

     

    “Mr. Peter Obi Receives Labour Party Certificate of Returns as its Presidential Candidate for 2023 presidential elections,” the Labour Party tweeted on its official handle alongside a photo of Obi holding the certificate of return.

     

    Before now, a faction of the party had elected a presidential candidate for the elections next year.

     

    But the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) maintained that it only recognises the party’s presidential election which produced Obi as its candidate.

    “The leadership of the NLC and TUC recognize the leadership of the Labour Party led by Barr. Julius Abure, a former trade union leader and workers are part of the leadership,” the NLC President Ayuba Wabba said in a statement issued on Thursday.

     

    “The NLC and TUC are aware of only one presidential primary which was held in Asaba, Delta State on 30th May 2022 and produced HE Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and standard-bearer.”

    PVC

    He said the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and NLC gave their full support to the processes which produced Obi as the party’s presidential candidate.

     

    “This, therefore, serves as a public disclaimer on Mr Calistus Okafor. We warn the general public to steer clear of Calistus Okafor and characters who might want to cash in on the popularity of the Labour Party to hoodwink, extort and swindle unsuspecting members of the public,” he warned.

    Vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, Peter Obi, has said challenges of insecurity is too much of a burden on Nigerians “already battling with hardship and poverty”.

     

    Obi, on Tuesday tweeted: “The terror attacks on Kaduna Airport and on Abuja-Kaduna bound train, with several persons reportedly abducted is depressing and disheartening and underscores the worsening level of insecurity across the country.

     

    “The challenges of insecurity is too much of a burden on Nigerians already battling with hardship and poverty. Sadly, the worsening level of insecurity only further aggravates the negative performance of Nigeria’s economy.”

    While condoling with the families of the bereaved, Obi sympathised with the traumatised passengers.

     

    He urged security agencies in the country to remain resolute in the fight against terrorism in the country.

     

    “The terror attacks in Kaduna and different parts of the country, have become very worrisome and should serve as wake up call to the government to beef up the country’s security and be more proactive in handling security issues,” Obi asserted.
