    Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo on Saturday visited the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Soludo to have said the visitation was part of wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South East.

    The Anambra State Governor said the IPOB leader was in high spirit and that they had quality and frank discussion.

    “He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere. He expressed sadness over what he described as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.

    “He assured that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace. Together, we shall restore peace, security and prosperity in Anambra and the Southeast. It is well indeed,” Soludo stated shortly after the visit.

    Mr Peter Obi, presidential aspirant for the 2023 general elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said he will replicate what he did in Anambra State as Governor if he is elected president.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Obi stated this at a meeting with stakeholders and delegates of the PDP from Sokoto and Zamfara states on Thursday at the party Secretariat in Sokoto.

    The former Governor of Anambra declared that he has the capacity to fix the political and socioeconomic challenges of Nigeria and that he will prioritise poverty reduction through tackling unemployment if elected president.

    Obi stressed on the need for Nigerians to make informed decision that would produce a president with capacity to fix the socioeconomic and political challenges bedevilling the country.

    “I served as the Governor of Anambra state for eight years, I built stronger institutions in the state, promising to replicate such as president of the country when elected.

    ”I was the Vice Presidential candidate with Atiku Abubakar on the platform of PDP in 2019 and I leveraged on his experience as a captain with focus, integrity, tested resource management skills and contentment to achieve the feat.

    ”A society will work, only if people pursue the cause with strong determination,” Obi said.

    He noted that Nigeria had potentialities and human resources that if maximally exploited would ensure strong economic and social institutions, as obtained in other developed nations.

    According him, when he was a governor, his administration implemented policies that catered for workers salary, pensions and gratuity payments.

    The presidential aspirant added that he did not leave outstanding along with contract payments.

    He stressed that tackling unemployment and ensuring stronger institutions would eliminate security challenges and facilitate rapid development.

    Earlier, the Sokoto State Deputy Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Zaki Bishiri, welcomed Obi to the state, describing him as an astute economist capable of transforming the nation’s challenges in recognition of his experience.

    Bishiri assured delegates’ supports toward party success in future elections.

    He said Obi was among the few individuals that would shape Nigeria and strengthen the nation’s potentialities.

    Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State has lamented the high rate of evacuation of businesses and productive assets from Onitsha to other neighbouring states.

    Soludo expressed his displeasure at a strategic meeting with landlords in Onitsha on Thursday.

    Landlords from Omagba Phases l and ll, GRA Onitsha Zone, Onitsha Housing Estate, American Quarters, Trans-Nkisi areas, among many others, participated in the meeting.

    The governor explained that the meeting was in line with the mantra of “Be Your Brother’s Keeper’, saying that it had become necessary to dialogue on how best to reclaim Onitsha, starting from the contributions of the landlords.

    While describing Onitsha city as ‘dead’, he said that everyone had one critical role or the other to play to take the city to an enviable reputation.

    “Recalled that Onitsha was once known to be housing the largest market in West Africa, which is sadly no longer the case, as new businesses and investments are now tilting towards neighbouring states.

    “A verifiable estimate shows that 35 to 40 per cent of businesses and productive assets in Onitsha are evacuating to neighbouring states.

    “This is the reality of the situation and my administration is committed to turning around Onitsha into a smart megacity, as Onitsha has advanced into a metropolis.

    “Hence, this civic engagement. I need your support to drive home the initiatives and policy thrusts of this administration,” he said.

    Soludo said that the landlords would benefit the most from the engagement because the value of their assets would increase eventually.

    In his remarks, Mr Edward Ibuzo, a lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency ll in the state House of Assembly, appreciated the governor for the meeting and promised to support the initiative.

    Gov Soludo’s employment drive gets boost with Silicon Valley training, multi-facet Coop initiative

    Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s call for individuals and cooperate organization’s to assist in empowerment and employment for Anambra State citizens especially the youth has received an unprecedented boost from an international Consultant indigene, Hon Emeka Ebo.

    Ebo, a top-rated successful public/private sector technocrat with proven track record in Nigeria and overseas said he was driven by the urge to take as many youth as possible off Anambra streets via skills provision.

    He has since established an agency under the aegis of Agricon Innovation Ltd which has gone round the state’s twenty-one (21) councils, particularly the Idemili North and Idemili South Councils, to collate data on all unemployed eager trainable youths.

    The training which covers different sectors of one’s choice has since kicked off for those already screened and data-based, at the agency’s Ogidi, Idemili North council headquarters office, near First Bank Plc, Oye-Olisa.

    Hon Ebo in an interview with journalists in Awka yesterday disclosed that agency’s headquarters was equipped with facilities and other appurtenances for no fewer than thirty(30) trainees adequately per session.

    According to him, the Agricon’s multifunctional Cooperative Society already has its app on the Google store for easy access to all interested citizens, irrespective of one’s location, time zone or schedule.

    That “it gives broad dashboard information on a participant at the touch of a button at any time.

    “That once screened, every participant’s records would be uploaded.

    This then avails the agency and or the State government instant picture of needy unemployed citizens of the state at any given time. It also enables access and control empowerment needs for persons dwelling in any particular location like Idemili North or Idemili South Council, with ease.”

    Ebo, an internationally rated egghead who has been a consultant to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Commissioner for African Affairs to the State of Maryland (USA) among many others, was also the Consultant to the Nigerian Senate committee under the distinguished chairmanship of Senator Attai Idoko.

    Hon Ebo is also the Chairman of Agricon Innovation Ltd, Abuja; the organizers of annual Agribusiness Conference and Expo, an event which provides platform that improves the exportation potentials of Nigerian farmers and agriprenuers through the provision of linkage opportunities with international markets and improved awareness of modern farming techniques.

    He said that in line with the state governor, Prof Soludo vision, he has passion to ensure that no youth would again be idle within the Idemili area in particular, and Anambra state anymore.

    He has accepted the call by the citizens to vie for the Federal House of Representatives seat for Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) so as to represent the area at the National Assembly.

    The agency’s Director of Training, Mrs Ngozi Okosa, training has commenced in earnest, and would cover areas including on Solar energy as an alternative source to electricity, information communication technology (ICT)expertise, laptop/WiFi specialist, Google specialist, latest technology on bucket/land farming techniques for those dwelling in urban and rural areas but have limited land spaces.

    Others are training for manufacturing of cosmetics, pomades, bleach, beads-making, clothes designs/patterns and headtie among others.

    Mrs Okosa also revealed that participants would be given start-up capital to kick off the effective application of all they learnt at the training.

    They would further be monitored and mentored to ensure they become employers of labour within a short space of time so as to achieve Gov Soludo’s employment drive for youths in Anambra State.

    Gunmen attack Peter Obi’s hometown, military checkpoint

    Unknown gunmen have attacked Anaocha and Nnewi South Local Government Areas of Anambra State.

    Findings show that the gunmen stormed a military checkpoint in Agulu on Saturday with rifles, cutlasses, bottles and other dangerous and opened fire on the soldiers and succeeded in killing one of them.

    Agulu, in the Anaocha LGA of the state, is the home town of a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party and a former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi.

    A source said the gunmen carried out the operation with over three exotic vehicles suspected to have been snatched from unsuspecting members of the public.

    “They confronted the soldiers for over 10 minutes, causing residents of the area to scamper to safety, and after a long gun battle, the men overpowered the soldiers, and they had to withdraw.

    “The men (assailants) did not cover their faces, and they were shouting on top of their voices. We saw them; some people even tried to make videos, but everyone was afraid not to be spotted and shot,” the source added.

    Anambra state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has lost a strong member of his media team Joe Anatune.

    The Governor image maker recently bagged an appointment after working as the leader of the Soludo’s media team before and after the guber election in the state.

    He was recently appointed on April 19, 2022, as the MD/CEO of Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

    Soludo has confirmed Anatune’s death while expressing disbelief and shock as he relayed the sad news.

    Mr Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Soludo, in a press release, said the Governor received the news of Mr Joe Anatune’s sudden death with deep pains and shock.

    He said: “Soludo described Joe Anatune as one of the foremost Apostles of the Soludo project with an uncommon strength and courage to deliver on any given assignment.

    “He stated further that Joe’s personal sacrifices during his electioneering campaign were not only exceptional but highly commendable.”

    “He spearheaded the Soludo Promoters Forum (SPF) and for two years used the platform to engage the professionals into mainstream politics. The government and the good people of Anambra State will sorely miss Joe Anatune,” Aburime said.

    He added that Governor Soludo had since commiserated with Anatune’s wife, Mrs Ify Anatune and children, the Anatune family and Awa community over the sudden loss of their illustrious son.”

    Dr Kayode Fayemi, Chairman Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Saturday paid a one day visit to Gov Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra in Awka and welcomed him officially to the forum.

    Fayemi, who is also the Ekiti State Governor, described Soludo as a “valuable asset” to the forum while commending him for the positive steps he had taken so far on assumption of office.

    He said he had been following with activities in Anambra under Soludo with keen interest adding that the state had been relatively lucky with having progressive governors.

    The NGF chairman said that Soludo was another addition to the long list.

    Responding, Soludo welcomed Fayemi whom he described as a long term friend and thanked him for the rare visit.

    The Professor of Economics said there was need for the Progressives to form coalition in moving the country forward with special interest in human capital development.

    He commended the NGF Chairman for his leadership qualities at the Forum and called for effective collaboration towards nation building.

    “I appreciate you for your support since I came on board at the Nigeria Governor’s Forum and as Anambra State Governor.

    “Anambra and Ekiti share several similarities especially in the area of human capital.

    “Anambra, as a commercial hub, has the potential to become the industrial and entertainment hub of Nigeria,” he said.

    Gunmen abduct 10 Miyetti Allah members in Anambra

    Gunmen have abducted 10 members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Anambra State.

    The gunmen, yesterday, also went away with more than 200 cows from the herdsmen’s settlement at Obene community, Ogbaru local government area of the state.

    The spokesman for the state police command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident to journalists in Awka.

    He said the operatives are on the kidnappers’ trail.

    Ikenga said: “The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of the commissioner of police, Echeng, will not rest on its oars until the victims are rescued unhurt and return to their families.”

    Gunmen abduct 5 wedding guests in Anambra

    No fewer than five guests returning from a traditional wedding ceremony in Anambra were on Monday night abducted by suspected gunmen.

    DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Anambra, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka.

    Ikenga said that security personnel had launched a rescue operation to ensure that the victims were safely reunited with their families unhurt.

    A reliable source had said the guests were kidnapped at about 10.00 p.m. on their way home.

    “The guests (names withheld) were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 10.00 p.m. on the Akpo – Nkpologwu road in Aguata Local Area of Anambra.

    “About 15 of the guest were returning to the hotel from Achina, venue of the marriage, in a convoy of three vehicles when they ran into the abductors, but only the first car was able to escape.

    “The gunmen asked all the ladies to go and took five of the men away after shooting into the air,” the source explained.

    The source added that the abductors were yet to make any contact with the victims’ families.

    EFCC speaks on arresting Ebele Obiano

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC(, has denied rumours making the rounds that it has arrested the immediate past First Lady of Anambra State, Eberechukwu Obiano.

    The rumour mill was awashed with speculations that she has been arrested and detained for allegedly involving in fraudulent activities.

    Reacting to the report, spokesman of EFCC, Wilson Uwajaren, dismissed such claims.

    “Eberechukwu not in EFCC’s custody,” he said.

    Recall that Obiano was arrested shortly after he handed over to his successor, Charles Soludo.

    The immediate past governor was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, about a month ago.

    Meanwhile, the former First Lady had signified her interest to run for the Anambra North Senatorial District, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

    Although Ebele Obiano was involved in a melodrama with Bianca Ojukwu at Charles Soludo’s inauguration as Anambra state governor, she has since tendered her apology and declared interest in running for a senatorial position in the state.
