Peter Obi not new to the rotten system, he didn’t build any schools – Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has hit out at his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi for being corrupt and part of the rotten system.

Sowore stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, Friday night.

He said, “Peter Obi is part of the old system that I’ve always fought against. I understand where he is coming from.

“This is 1999 repeating itself – Nigerians want change, some young people are genuinely interested in change to a different direction, and then they are presented with somebody who worked for the establishment; somebody who has been in the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, came back to the PDP, and now in the Labour Party. We can be emotional about it but that’s the truth.

“He’s not new to the rotten system. Somebody who was Anambra’s governor for eight years. He didn’t build any schools, he didn’t build any industry, he didn’t build a power station. He’s not my kind of progressive.”

…hence cannot change our ancestral name, heritage

    …storm govt house (Photos)

A group of community indigenes under the aegis of Nkerehi Progressive Union with headquarters at Nkerehi Townhall, in Orumba South council of Anambraon Tuesday stormed the State Governor’s office in Awka in protest for what they described as “attempt by the Hon Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Collins Tony Nwabunwanne to perpetrate illegality in Nkerehi Traditional institution…”

In their protest letter to the Governor, signed by the President General, Chief Eric Igwike and Secretary General, Joseph Anulobi copy of which was given out to journalists who spoke to them at the gate of the Government House, the community expressed displeasure with the alleged conduct of the Commissioner, “..for dabbling into the Nkerehi, Umuchukwu crisis which has taken a number of lives and properties without living up to his promises to us to formally set up a panel to critically look into the crisis and recommend a lasting solution”.

According to Anulobi, unfortunately the promise was never kept till date.

“We were disturbed to learn from grapevine of alleged plans by Nwabunwanne to issue a certificate of Recognition to one Kenny Madu whose lineage was traced to a migrant parentage who came to settle in our midst about three decades ago.

” During the visit to the Commissioner on May 10,2022 and our petition dated July 1,2022 provided detailed documented processes with which we collectively elected and presented our Igwe-elect -Chief Mathias Chidozie Anyadiegwu, in January 2020.”

Delving a little into chronological details of events, Anulobi pointed out that the late traditional ruler(Igwe), Michael Ukaegbu was Dr Godwin Maduka’s direct maternal uncle from same village.

He argued that it was from all logic immoral for Maduka who was yet to wriggle out of failed attempt to unilaterally change the community’s name from Nkerehi to Umuchukwu, to now dabble into foisting his sibling, Kenneth on the community as Igwe of Nkerehi/Umuchukwu.

The bundle of documents laid out all the stages including some of the court cases, petitions, accusations and denials.

The wailing community men and women numbering above one hundred who protested at the Anambra Government House bore placards denouncing the Commissioner for Local Government’s alleged attempt at awarding the traditional stool to “an unqualified person”. They cried and literally drew tears from the eyes of passers-bye and observers, as they cried and cried, urging Gov Chukwuma Soludo to intervene.

Mr Kingsley Nkuma, the Chief Security Officer to the Governor who received them, commended their matured reasoning in coming peacefully to the Governor for him to intervene. He collected their letter of petition, placards and video record of the live oral on-the-spot presentation to be given to the Governor.

He urged them to remain peaceful, that once the materials gets to the Governor he would intervene.

PVC: Anambra citizens cry out over slow pace, inadequate facilities, staff

The snail pace at which officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have displayed in the registration of new potential voters, which according to investigations was attributed to inadequate personnel/data capturing machines is worrying Anambra citizens.
The All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate for Idemili North State Constituency, Hon Chibuzor Okeke expressed deep concern that after the intense sensitization and mobilization he embarked on, it was unfair to find out that lack of adequate number officials has continued to throw spanner in the works at the INEC offices.

According to him, we are worried about constant reports of lack of facilities, data-capturing machines and staff to register the people who have been trooping out to be registered for their Permanent Voters Card(PVC).
He confirmed that since he took up the sensitization for registration for PVC, the awareness rate has multiplied. This, he admitted, was healthy for the polity. As it would enable more right people to be elected.

Hon Okeke, a visibly active, exuberant and eager young politician who secured the ticket of APC in a landslide fashion said he was coming to make the widely expected remarkable difference in quality representation for the people.

Reacting to the increased civil agitations in parts of the country almost daily, Okeke admitted it was part of the tenets of democracy and free speech. He therefore appealed to the Federal Government to listen to the agitators with a view to addressing them.
He used the opportunity of addressing journalists to charge the electorate to vote individuals like himself, Dr Ifeanyi Ibezi for the Idemili Federal House of Representatives and Hon Donatus Ngige for Idemili South State Constituency because they are people we all know and believe in for performance.

  • Anambra gov, Soludo reacts to budget padding allegation

Anambra gov, Soludo reacts to budget padding allegation

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has dismissed allegations of budget padding for some projects by margins as wide as 300 percent in some ministries

This is contained in a statement by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Thursday.

Reacting to an article titled, ” Budget padding scandal hits Anambra State Government”, Soludo said ”criminals” of different types displaced by his government were fighting back with propaganda.

‘For clarity, it is important we state that we are not oblivious of the diversionary antics of those whose lucrative criminal enterprise is being smoked out by the renewed fight against all forms criminality in the State, housed in various camps and bushes perpetrating heinous crimes.

”Anambra no longer has free money to feed the greed of those whose source of livelihood is government money and patronage as a result of free oil money which sadly stopped while assuring that there will be value for every penny spent.

”The claims that the commissioner for works refused to appear before the House of Assembly to defend his ministry’s budget on June 29 is false.

”We owe it as a duty to Anambra to ensure that every penny of our borrowed funds is accounted for, and deployed to building quality infrastructure, and not for consumption.

”On the cost of the road per kilometer, it is funny that the unknown writer is using propaganda and deceit to hoodwink the unsuspecting public.

“How do you start talking about the cost of contracts for roads currently being designed and contracts not awarded, of course people always judge others by their own standards,” he stated.

Soludo went further to provide cost trend of road projects executed in the state which he said ranged from above N200 million to as much as N1 billion per kilometer in 2018 when diesel was N120 per litre and a tonne of asphalt, N18,000

He said though the cost of diesel and asphalt had risen to N850 per litre and N65,000 per tonne in 2022, his administration would deliver quality and durable roads at the cheapest possible price.

The governor said the roads under design were planned to last for at least 15 years under heavy axial loads.

“It is important that we place it on record for the purposes of our employers and to whom we are accountable, that the previous administrations awarded roads with the cost per kilometer varying from above N1 billion to a little over N200 million.

“It is also on record that none of our predecessors awarded any road for less than N200 million per km.

“Of course, one can even get a road for less than N1 million by spreading sand and lean asphalt on it to be washed away within one rainy season.

“The losers of the new order will continue to try desperate acts to fight back but we remain focused, during the dry season, Anambra will see the mass action on their roads and Anambra will continue to win,” he stated.

  • Pupils reject promotion to benefit from school feeding programme in Anambra state

This revelation was made known by the Programme manager of the National Homegrown school feeding scheme in Anambra state, Mrs Eriken Uzoamaka.

The feeding programme is mainly for pupils from primary one to primary three. Mrs Eriken said the finding was that some pupils reject promotion to primary four because they want to remain in classes where they can be fed.

Eriken who spoke during a two-day capacity-building workshop on Enhancing Social Protection Programme in Nigeria, a programme organised by the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), said the challenge would be resolved once the menu of the higher classes are improved.

“We serve rich food to pupils in classes 1 to 3 as captured in the national home-grown school feeding scheme. That is why even those that agree to be promoted, usually come to their junior class (primary 3) especially on Wednesdays to struggle for food with others. We serve beans and plantains (or sweet potatoes) that day.

“We are appealing to the Anambra State government to support the programme by feeding pupils from primary 4 to six, and probably include feeding of preprimary school pupils to curb the challenges and increase more numbers of pupils in public schools,” she added.

Eriken explained that the programme in Anambra State has been facing some challenges including a hike in prices of commodities, and the death of 10 cooks in the programme, since its inception in 2016.

“Since the inception of the programme in 2016, about 10 cooks have died and it is affecting the programme in some schools. It is only the nation that can recruit and replace them, we have no right to replace them but we have written to inform the national body but they are yet to be replaced.

“Another challenge is the high cost of food items in the country, it is affecting the programme and the quality of food given to the children. The cooks are really complaining and the high cost of food items is making it difficult for them to give us adequate meals per child.

  • Declare Stella Oduah unfit as PDP senatorial candidate – Party Chieftain tells court

A PDP Chieftain, Chief John Emeka, on Thursday prayed to a Federal High Court, Abuja to declare that Sen. Stella Oduah is unqualified to contest in the Anambra North Senatorial District seat for the 2023 general elections.

Oduah contested and won the party’s May 27 primary election for Anambra North Senatorial seat.

Emeka, in an originating summons, told Justice Inyang Ekwo that Oduah, in the information she supplied in an affidavit of facts she deposed to on Oct. 23, 2014, as to the loss of her original copy of her NYSC Certificate which she incorporated in her INEC Form CF001 for the said primary, was untrue.

The application, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/841/2022 dated and filed June 8, was brought by his lawyer, Mbanefo Ikwegbue.

Emeka also names the PDP and INEC as defendants.

Oduah currently represents Anambra North Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

Emeka, who was also an aspirant in the primary election, prayed the court for an order, nullifying the lawmaker’s participation in the poll.

He also sought for an order directing the INEC not to recognise the lawmaker as the party’s candidate for the 2023 election.

He further prayed the court for an order, declaring him as the PDP candidate for the Anambra North Senatorial District’s seat for the 2023 poll, having participated in the May 27 election.

Emeka, in the application, alleged that Oduah lied on oath in both her expression of interest and nomination forms, including the INEC Form CFO01.

When the matter was called on Thursday, Emeka’s counsel, Ikwegbue, told Justice Ekwo that Oduah allegedly refused to collect court documents when the bailiff made an attempt to serve her.

But lawyer to Oduah, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, disagreed with Ikwegbue.

Ikpeazu described the submission as a misconception.

Ikpeazu was consequently served with the documents in the open court following the judge’s directive.

“I am putting this matter for hearing in the next adjourned date.

“There is sufficient time for all the parties to file their processes,” Ekwo said.

The judge, who adjourned the matter until Sept. 26 for hearing, ordered that hearing notices be issued to parties in the suit.
