I don’t care about what happens with Mbappe – Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he’s not thinking about the prospect of PSG striker Kylian Mbappe arriving.

Real Madrid face a trip to Levante on Sunday evening, with the club coming off the back of a rousing 4-1 win over Alaves in the opening weekend of the LaLiga Santander season.

“I don’t care what happens [in relation to Mbappe] in the next few days,” Ancelotti told the press. “Because my squad is very strong.

“Our viewpoint is the same, this squad can compete for everything. We have a lot of top players, and the squad is full of stars. Titles are won when those stars work for the team.

“The atmosphere is very good in the dressing room, and I think the players are motivated and focused on their job. They aren’t involved in the transfer market and only talk about preparing well for the games.”

Ancelotti also made clear what he demands of his players. Asked what it takes to play for the club, given the recent outgoings and possible incomings, the coach gave a detailed response.

“You have to combine quality and a very strong character, that’s changed in the last few years and it’s very important to know how to manage it,” Ancelotti assessed.

“If you come to Real Madrid it’s because you have technical and physical quality. After that, a great player proves himself because he has character, personality, by not being scared.

“The capacity of having character to show quality is very important. It doesn’t always happen, there are players who can have problems with this, the mental aspect is much more important now than when I played.

“If you don’t train and work, you can’t show the quality you have.”

What Ancelotti wants from me – Courtois

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is happy working with coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Courtois signed a new contract to 2026 this week.

He said of Ancelotti: “We want to keep winning games, and I need to help the team keep possession and he wants to involve the keeper more in this. I have to lead the team from the back and help with the organisation.

“Working under him is a great experience, it’s a different way of training and it’s always good to keep learning.”

On the new season, Courtois also stated: “We’re really focussed on having a strong season in every competition. It’s really important to get off to a good start in the league. It was a tough game against Alavés and now we have to travel to Levante and Betis.

“It’s not easy to start with three away games. We have to win and then we return to the Bernabéu in September to play in front of our fans. We’ve certainly missed them. We’re working really hard and that showed in our fitness levels against Alavés. We kept going and pressing them until the 95th minute. It’s important to do that.”

Ancelotti prepared to see Hazard leave Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti is eager to see Real Madrid management trim his squad.

ABC says Real coach Ancelotti wants a squad of 23 players – no more – and is in agreement with president Florentino Perez about cutting numbers.

Ancelotti will be happy to see Luka Jovic, Jesus Vallejo, Dani Ceballos, Alvaro Odriozola and Martin Ødegaard all sold, along with Gareth Bale.

And also being made available is Eden Hazard – with the approval of Ancelotti.

The pair worked together at Chelsea, but Ancelotti is ready to see Hazard sold as he looks to trim his squad.

We built a squad for Ancelotti and then… – Everton owner

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri admits Carlo Ancelotti’s departure for Real Madrid wrecked their long-term plans.

Everton, yesterday, appointed Rafa Benitez as the club’s new boss and Moshiri believes the 61-year-old is the right man to deliver success.

But it would appear as though Ancelotti’s decision to walk-out on Everton and Moshiri on June 1 has hurt the club’s backer.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s been difficult.

“We went to great effort to get Carlo and the sudden [decision to leave] disrupted the club and we had made our plan.

“We built a squad for him, so it caused big, big disruption. We couldn’t afford another short-term managerial period.”

I must thank Everton – Carlo Ancelotti

New Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has thanked Everton after leaving Goodison Park this week for Spain.

Ancelotti spent over two years with Everton before this week’s resignation.

He said, “I have to thank Everton, where I was very happy during the two and a half years I was there. The atmosphere was positive and the people were hard-working. I’m back with more experience, I know Real Madrid very well, the squad and I’ve met some of the players in the past. We’re going to do well.

“You have to try to improve every day. I’ve had positive experiences in Germany, Italy and England. Each experience makes you grow and I’m coming back with six more years of experience. I hope it’ll be good for Real Madrid.”

Ancelotti also said: “I remember La Décima as a massive success because that season was very good. We played well in every game and also in a very tough final against Atlético. I remember the night at Cibeles perfectly, it was incredibly enjoyable.

“I know that the fans are together with the team and I want to send them a message that I’m very happy to be back.”

Real Madrid players have welcomed the return of Italian tactician Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti left Everton to return to Real as coach on Tuesday, succeeding Zinedine Zidane after the Frenchman’s resignation last week.

The Italian, with the likes of Marcelo, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos involved, previously won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2014. Indeed, 11 members of the current squad worked with Ancelotti in his previous spell.

Okdiario says the players are delighted with the appointment believing he is an excellent replacement for the popular Zidane.

Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti is delighted to have returned to Real Madrid.

Ancelotti has explained his decision to depart Everton and join Los Blancos, as he replaces Zinedine Zidane in the hot seat at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The Italian coach made clear that returning to Real Madrid is an opportunity he could not turn down and stressed that he enjoyed his spell in charge of Everton.

“I would like to thank the Board of Directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the Club,” said Ancelotti in a statement published on Everton’s official website.

“I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.

“While I have enjoyed being at Everton, I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time.”

Ancelotti also published a tweet thanking everyone at Everton from his own personal Twitter account.

“I would like to thank Everton FC, my players and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to manage this fantastic and historical club,” it read.

“I decided to leave as I have a new challenge with a team that was always in my heart, Real Madrid.

“I leave taking with me all the amazing moments we have experienced together and wish the Club and fans all the best.”

Carlo Ancelotti leaves Everton to replace Zidane at Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti has left Premier League club Everton to become head coach of Real Madrid for a second time.

The 61-year-old, who managed Real Madrid for two years between 2013 and 2015, has left Everton after 18 months in charge at Goodison Park.

He succeeds Zinedine Zidane at Real and the move leaves Everton searching for a sixth permanent manager in five years.

Ancelotti thanked Everton’s staff and fan and said the move represented “an unexpected opportunity”.

“I would like to thank the board of directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the club,” he added.

“I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.

  • I thought Super League was ‘a joke’ – Ancelotti

I thought Super League was ‘a joke’ – Ancelotti

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti admits that he thought talk of a breakaway Super League being formed was “a joke”.

Ancelotti was quick to condemn the plans that would have had huge ramifications on the Champions League and Premier League.

“For every supporter of football it was a strange day, a surprise,” he said.

“We heard about the Super League in the past few months but I was sure it was not going to happen. What can I say? They were wrong.

“The most important part, they wanted to build a competition without sporting merit. This is not acceptable. If you are good, you play football as a professional – if not, you’re not a professional. They were wrong, full stop.”

Ancelotti revealed that he thought the plans were a joke when he first heard, and gave his thoughts on whether the six Premier League clubs involved should be punished.

Distancing himself from the idea of any punishment, he said: “I’m not the right person to judge if they should be punishment. Everyone can make mistakes, but I cannot say if they have to be punished or not.”

Ancelotti also gave a mischievous answer when discussing the impact the Super League would have had on clubs like Everton, who have ambitions of breaking into the top four.

He joked: “The way we are working now is the right way. We have improved the team, we improved the knowledge of the players. We have to improve other things to play the Super Leag…oh sorry!”

  • Man City have no clear identity – Ancelotti

Man City have no clear identity – Ancelotti

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti says Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have “no clear identity”, with that considered to be a positive for the Premier League leaders as they chase a historic quadruple.

The Toffees will be looking to end that bid on Saturday when they host the Citizens in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

City have been sweeping aside all before them at home and abroad, with experienced Italian tactician Ancelotti fully aware that he faces the toughest challenge in trying to pick holes in a rival that is almost impossible to predict.

Former AC Milan, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain coach Ancelotti told reporters: “I would like to talk about Manchester City. Manchester City are a fantastic team but they have no clear identity.

“Sometimes they build up with three, sometimes with two, sometimes their right back goes to play as a holding midfielder.

“They have clear principles. That is the difference.

“Sometimes they don’t play with a centre-forward, they play with a No 10 as a centre-forward, so the identity of Manchester City is not clear. If they had a clear identity you would be more able to manage their shape, but the fact is they change their shape.

“What doesn’t change is their principles of keeping the ball, having possession and to show the quality they have. The principles never change.”
