EPL: Ten Hag sends strong warning to Onana ahead Sheffield United clash

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has advised number 1 shot stopper, Andre Onana to step up his game ahead of match day  10 premier league clash with Sheffield United.

Onana has had a shaky start to life at Manchester United after conceding at least a goal per match.

Ten Hag brought in Onana this summer to replace David de Gea as United’s no.1 after the Spaniard’s contract expired.

The Cameroon international joined in a £47.2million deal from Inter.

But despite receiving praise for his distribution, Onana has come under fire after mistakes against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Brentford.

And Ten Hag is adamant that Onana will start to show more consistency.

“‘For Andre, it is good to know, from that little bit of history, but also we live now and we live in the future. He has to make his future by making better performances.

“I’m sure he will do that and he has already shown that so many times in big clubs like Barcelona, when he was young. At Ajax, he was in the semi-final of the Champions League. He was in the final of the Champions League [last season with Inter],” Ten Hag said.

Rasmus Hojlund scored his first United goal early in the second half, but Bayern hit back with Harry Kane’s penalty.

Casemiro scored two minutes from time, but substitute Mathys Tel added a fourth for Bayern. There was still time for Casemiro to add another deep in injury time.

Onana apologised after the match for his error but Ten Hag did not want to focus on one particular player as a basis for the loss:

He said: “It is good he is taking responsibility but it is about the team. You have to bounce back as a team and we scored three goals after that.

“The mistakes happen but when they happen they are gone. We must always believe we can bounce back and tonight we showed that belief, we kept going after mistakes and kept believing.”

“So for me it’s great and I like this shirt. With this number we have done a lot and I hope this will continue,” he told MUTV.
