  • Angry mob set multiple okadas ablaze over killing of a pedestrian

There  was pandemonium  at Jakande Estate, Isolo area of Lagos State,  on Thursday morning when a mob reportedly set about 20 commercial motorcycles, popularly called okada, ablaze after an accident which killed a pedestrian.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin,  confirmed the incident and said the pedestrian died immediately she was hit.

Hundeyin  further explained that the death of the pedestrian led an angry mob in the area to set motorcycles  belonging  to fleeing riders ablaze following the police rescue of the culprit whom the mob initially wanted to lynch.

Hundeyin said “It is important to clear the air on what’s going on at Jakande Estate/Isheri Road. This morning, a motorcycle rider veered off the road and hit a pedestrian. Unfortunately, the pedestrian fell and died on the spot. People around decided to lynch the motorcycle rider.

“The Police arrived at the scene on time and rescued the motorcycle rider from lynching. The Police immediately took the rider to the hospital for treatment and evacuated the pedestrian. Before the Police arrived back at the scene, a mob was already burning the motorcycles left behind by the fleeing riders.

“The Lagos State Police Command condemns jungle justice in very strong terms. Anyone found engaging in such would be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Hundeyin stated.

  • I am angry, only keeping my anger-Remi Tinubu

I am angry, only keeping my anger-Remi Tinubu

Remi Tinubu, wife of All Progressives Congress chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has stated that it is true that Nigerians are angry but people must learn to manage their anger and put their emotions under control.

The Senator representing Lagos Central made this known on Friday while featuring on TVC breakfast show, ‘Your View’.

Asked about the rising insecurity in the country and the youths invading police stations, she said: ”Why are we condoning that young people are angry, angry over what? Who said I am not angry? I am only keeping my anger. Are you (presenters) not angry about things? Everybody has to control their anger. Who is not angry? I am angry about a lot of issues.

“You (presenters) were talking to me about a bill I have been trying to get for nine years ago and it is still alive. Do they (youths) understand what it means by waiting? Do they understand what it means by waiting in the morning and go to do your job?

“I remember because they say there are not jobs, I said I am going to start a programme – Work Experience Programme. We got about almost 200 youths.

“I know some people in some places and I said just employ them for just one-month internship. I will pay N40,000 for them to go. I will pay N20,000 for transport and then when they conclude and complete the one month, I will pay another N20,000.

“We did an orientation for them – how to work in a workplace. Some don’t even know how to work in a workplace. They don’t have the etiquette for workplace. We did the training for them. Would you believe that they employed almost 80% of them, they retain them and they were screaming there were no jobs.

“I need people to work with me but I need the right people. Morayo (Afolabi-Brown) knows that I am not one of those people you work with and you say, ‘No problem’. That’s no English. I know the people I interact with. Did I tell you there is a problem? That is a question I always ask. It is a slang that people are used to but in certain levels of governance, such languages are not ethical.”

  • Man Utd players reportedly angry with Mourinho

Manchester United players are reportedly angry with Jose Mourinho, after their draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday, following his comment about them “lacking heart”.

The Portuguese turned on his squad after their lacklustre display against Palace, accusing some of them of not caring enough about results.

He said some of his players would happily “party” after the result and said he might have to pick himself in future as he truly cares about the club’s fortunes.

However, the Daily Mail is reporting that the comments did not go down well with Mourinho’s squad as some of the first-team members are angry that he has criticized them publicly again.

The comments follow Mourinho’s controversial interview with Univision in which he questioned the maturity of Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

  • Evil, bitter, unpatriotic Nigerians angry at news of recession exit – Presidency

…Says restructure your minds before asking for nation’s restructure

The presidency on Saturday accused some bitter, unpatriotic and evil Nigerians of expressing sadness at the news of the country’s exit from recession which was announced on Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

This was revealed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina in a special piece he wrote to lash out at those expressing divergent views ever since the news of the exit from economic recession broke.

The presidential aide urged those category of Nigerians to seek a restructure of their minds before demanding that the nation should be restructured.

In his words: “The sing-song in the country today is restructuring of the polity. We want more states. We want a return to regional structure. We want a revision of the revenue allocation formula. We want six vice presidents, one from each geo-political zone. We want those zones to be the federating units, rather than the states. And so on, and so forth.

In fact, so loud is the cacophony of voices over restructuring that if you ask 100 people what they mean, they give you 100 different explanations. But as a country, I believe we will get there someday. And soon.

However, is political restructuring the most urgent thing Nigeria needs now? I don’t think so. For me, what is more urgent is the restructuring of the Nigerian mind. A mind that sees the country as one, that believes that we have a future and a hope, that believes that we are one people under God. But what we see now is ruinous for any country. It is hemlock, bound to poison the entire polity, and send it to a premature perdition”.

Adesina explained that while these few but bitter Nigerians who are probably still pained by their 2015 political loss happily received the news of the nation slippering into recession in 2016 without questioning, they have however stoop so low to question the news of the exit from recession.

On Tuesday, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that we had exited from economic recession. It was cheery news for majority of Nigerians, save for those in the gall of bitterness. They spat in the sky, and collected the spittle with their faces. Who gave Nigeria the permission to exit recession? Who gave her the audacity of hope? How can the economy attempt to rebound, when it should sink deeper and deeper into the miry clay? They were in the doldrums, unhappy because good news came for the country. In their befuddled minds, Nigeria must never see a silver lining in the sky. The ravening clouds must ever remain victorious, must forever possess the sky, simply because of primordial reasons.

The party in power is not my own, so why should Nigeria make progress under it? The President in office was not the one I voted for, so why should he succeed? He does not speak my language, he is not of my religion or ethnic stock, so why must Nigeria prosper under him? They, therefore, throw all sorts of tantrums, like a child whose lollipop is taken away, and attempt to rubbish the news on exit from recession. And those same people would canvass for a restructuring of the polity. Big mistake. Wrong priority. They need to have their minds restructured first, so that they have goodwill towards their own country, and towards all men. Left to them, they wish that when NBS releases results for the next quarter, Nigeria should have gone back into recession. Filthy dreamers! Awful imaginations! They need a restructuring of their minds, and quickly, too,” Adesina said.

He noted further: “The National Bureau of Statistics announced our descent into recession. They embraced the news, almost with sickening glee. Now, the same agency has announced exit, and they begin to question its impartiality. What kind of people are they? They want to hear only bad news?

May their minds be restructured, lest bad news dog their footsteps. Malediction? Am I cursing anybody? Not at all. Just a warning, and a call to new attitude, new thoughts, new conduct. The things we expect have a way of coming upon us. Ask the biblical Job. “What I feared has come upon me. What I dreaded has happened to me.”(Job 3:25).

The seasoned journalist further explained that while the news of the exit from recession is cheering, President Muhammadu Buhari and the NBS had clearly warned that the nation’s economic team should not relax on their oars as there was still a lot to be achieved to finally put the nation on the path of greatness.

President Buhari says exit from recession is cheery news, but until the life of the average Nigerian is positively touched by the economy, he doesn’t consider the job done.

Very good. Even the NBS, which brought the good news, says the economy is still fragile, and the good work must continue, so that we don’t slide back. That is exactly what this government would do. That is the motive behind the ERGP (Economic Reconstruction and Growth Plan). So, let nobody be filled with diabolic thoughts. Government does not feel it is there yet. Action stations! All hands on deck,” he explained.

  • Nigerians angry with Buhari for sending them voice message in Hausa language

The voice message released by President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians, felicitating with them on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr has generated sharp criticisms of the Buhari-led government.

TheNewsGuru.com published yesterday that the presidency relayed the Buhari’s voice message to Nigerians to debunk reports that he is suffering from speech impairment.

There had earlier been reports in the social media claiming that the President is suffering from speech impairment and memory loss.

Some Nigerians, however, expressed mixed feelings about Buhari’ s message with some civil rights organisations and prominent individuals berating the President for speaking to Nigerians in Hausa at a time the country is in dire need of ‘unity’.

It’ s propaganda, says Junaid Mohammed

A member of the House of Representatives during the Second Republic, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, wondered what the President ’ s handlers intended to achieve with the Buhari’s voice message.

He stated, “ Other than propaganda, I wonder what they ( President ’ s handlers ) intend to achieve by putting out such an audio clip ( message) at this time . The President needs our prayers and we sincerely pray for his quick recovery and safe return . ’’

The message doesn’t address issues confronting the country – Odumakin

Yinka Odumakin , said he expected the President to have cautioned Arewa youths against their ultimatum to the Igbo , noting that instead , Buhari simply danced around the issue.

He said, “ The statement is so flat; it did not address specific issues on the ground. In view of what is going on in the country now, I would have thought he would have appealed to those, who are issuing notices to quit against some other tribes, to desist from doing such a thing.

Odumakin berated the President for voice message which was sent in Hausa in the recording, saying that was not good enough. ’’

“ Addressing the nation at this time in Hausa does not bring inclusiveness. I don’t think it’ s good enough for the President of a multi-ethnic nation to have made a national address in the language spoken by a section of the country, ” he said.

No difference between Buhari, Nnamdi Kanu –Jonathan ’ s ex -aide

Reacting to the President ’ s message, a former Special Assistant on Social Media to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, on his Facebook page, condemned Buhari for addressing Muslims in Hausa.

Omokri stated, “ In a country, whose official language is English, President Muhammadu Buhari broadcasts his Sallah message in Hausa! Would Trump ( whose origin is German) address America in German? So what about all those Nigerians who can’t speak Hausa?

How would it have been if President Olusegun Obasanjo had released a Christmas broadcast to Nigerians in Yoruba or if President Goodluck Jonathan had done so in Ogbia?

“ How can a national leader address Nigerians in a sectional language? Nigeria has never had a leader as divisive as Buhari! There is no difference between President Buhari and Nnamdi Kanu.

The message is an insult to Nigerians – Fani-Kayode

Reacting to the voice message former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-kayode, said it was not President Buhari that spoke in the Sallah audio recording, and that it was an insult to Nigerians for the President to have spoken in Hausa language.
