    Death threats made to Bayern Munich players in anonymous letter

    Death threats have been made against several Bayern Munich players via an anonymous letter, a police spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

    “We are investigating on suspicion of threats and disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit a crime,” said the spokesperson, who did not provide further details.

    The Bild newspaper had reported the letter mentioned Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer and Serge Gnabry by name.

    The letter was received on Jan. 12 by the second division club St Pauli Hamburg, who turned it over to the police.

    The letter reportedly said “Save the league, save the sport of football. Fire and death to the dirty Bayern pigs.”

    Bayern Munich did not want to comment on the incident.

    Reports making the rounds on social media indicates that the broadcast services provided by MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DSTV and GOTV has been allegedly hacked by controversial hackers, ‘Anonymous’.

    When TheNewsGuru (TNG) verified the claim by checking the channels available on ‘Yanga’ a lesser DSTV bouqet it observed that several channels that used to be reserved for a premium bouqet was available for viewership on the said ‘Yanga’ subscription.

    However, a source at Multichoice Nigeria refuted the claim .

    THe source who spoke to TNG on condition of anonimity said the company decided to open all of its channels because the firm was upgrading its system.

    “We don’t want our subscribers to go through challenges, that is why we open all channels till we complete the upgrade.

    “We had informed our subscribers of this upgrade earlier last week’ Says source.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday confirmed that actually the apex electoral body’s website was attacked but vigilant staff of the commission repelled it.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the waves of attacks by Anonymous hacker across the country’s establishments websites got to the peak this week as even the apex electoral body was not spared.

    INEC’s Director of Publicity Nick Dazang on Saturday confirmed to TNG that actually there was an attack on the electoral body’s website but the gallant staff of the commission vehemently repelled it.

    He said: “Yes, there were attempts to hack into the INEC Website but the attempts were repelled by our ever-vigilant ICT Staff. As we speak, the website is up and running”.

    Recall that the official websites of Lagos and Kaduna State Governments were early Saturday morning allegedly attacked by Anonymous.

    The hacker allegedly further shut down Nigeria’s anti-Corruption agency, the EFCC, National Centre for Disease Control, and Amuwo Odofin Local Government in Lagos State.

    The hacker claimed responsibilities for the said attacks on the websites in support of protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

    The official websites of Lagos and Kaduna State Governments were early Saturday morning allegedly attacked by Anonymous.

    The hacker allegedly further shut down Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Amuwo Odofin Local Government in Lagos State.

    The hacker, who tweets from @LiteMods, claimed responsibilities for the said attacks on the websites in support of protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

    The latest cyberattacks were a part of coordinated attacks by hacktivists on Nigerian government-owned websites and social media accounts.

    Hours earlier, the website of Nigeria’s central bank was hacked.

    “Nigerian government, we will not allow this corruption,” the hacker tweeted late on Friday. “We will not allow this police brutality. Your websites of @officialEFCC have been taken-down so far by my attacks and more will be next.”

    Protests broke out in Nigeria last week against police brutality, with thousands of young people calling for the scrapping of a Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a police unit that has been accused of committing crimes including murder.

    The protests have drawn thousands of mainly young demonstrators onto the streets and online in the most concerted show of people power in Nigeria in years.

    Crowd-sourced donations have poured in for the largely leaderless #EndSARS movement, supporters said.

    One group, the Feminist Coalition, said it had received contributions worth more than $175,000 (150,000 euros).

    The collective said it had paid legal fees and medical bills for injured protesters, donated to families of victims, and bought food, water and face masks for people at demonstrations.

    Hacked website: CBN reacts, says no cause for alarm

    The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has denied it’s website was hacked on Friday, stating categorically that the website is secure.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG spoke to a top management source who said the site has not been hacked. Rather CBN blocked it when they saw attempts to hack it.

    “It has been blocked to the US, UK, France, etc. Nigerians however can access it intermittently. It will remain blocked till Monday. Keep trying the site it opens sometimes.” he said.

    Meanwhile, Osita Nwanisobi, Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, CBN in a statement also denied the hacking of the website.

    The statement reads: “Contrary to claims in the social media alleging that the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) (www.chn.gov.ng) has been breached by malicious persons. we wish to state categorically that our website is secure.

    “We wish to assure the Nigerian public and indeed all our other stakeholders that the CBN website is adequately protected and that there is no cause for alarm.

    “We also wish to advise members of the online community to desist from peddling false news aimed at undermining the integrity of the Central Bank of Nigeria, which is our collective asset”.

    Checks had shown that the CBN website had issues and returned errors on several occasions of trying to access it. However, the website seems to be stable now.

    BREAKING: Anonymous shuts down CBN website

    Anonymous has shut down the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as it intensifies its attack on the Nigerian government over #EndSARS.

    The hacker collective took down the website of the Nigerian government banker at 8:41 p.m., according to an announcement on its Twitter handle.

    The CBN website has been loading intermittently, indicating webmasters have been actively working to prevent or minimize damage.

    The site was shut down two days after Anonymous took over the Nigerian police website, which has yet to go up as of Friday evening. Thousands of bank accounts and private information of officials were compromised in the attack.

    It was not immediately clear whether or not the notorious hacking group collected sensitive information from the CBN web infrastructure following the attack.

    A spokesperson for the CBN did not immediately return a request seeking comments.
