EPL: Manchester United’s Anthony relives car crash incident

Newly signed Manchester United player,  Anthony was involved in a car crash last week in England and it caused the  Brazilian to miss a game for the Old Trafford side.

Although, Anthony escaped unhurt from the accident he damaged his BMW X6 after crashing it  into roadworks on the M56.

The accident happened few hours after Manchester United defeated Wolves 1-0 at the Molineux courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s solitary goal.

For this reason, Antony was not involved in United’s subsequent 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday.

He, however, returned to action for the 3-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup on Friday.

Antony only told reporters after the victory that it was a shocking incident to him but did not elaborate on it.

“I also feel relieved as in the last few days I had a shock,” he told TNT Sports.

“Really hard but I’m very grateful to God for putting this behind me now.

“It was a really, really difficult moment for me,” he said.

But a source told The Sun what actually happened to the Brazilian, disclosing that, “It was dark and wet and he made an error of judgement.

“He was shaken up but thankfully no one else was involved and he wasn’t injured.”

  • Man Utd have a potential world star in Anthony – Van der Sar

Man Utd have a potential world star in Anthony – Van der Sar

Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar says Manchester United have signed a “world star” in Antony.

Antony followed Lisandro Martinez and former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag to Old Trafford in a £85m deal.

“I spoke with United about Erik, with Richard Arnold. Erik did a fantastic job here, put Ajax back on the European map with the players we had,” he told The Athletic.

“You know in hindsight that managers like the players they work with, the type of football Erik wanted to play, and with Martinez there he has shown his worth now. There were question marks initially, but the way he can read the game, how aggressive he is — what he doesn’t have in centimetres he makes up for in other qualities.

“(Antony is) Still young, still potential. We would have liked to keep him here one year longer — there was not a dire need to sell him, we had money in the bank — but the fee got so high. We challenged United to go as far as possible. They have a potential world star.”

I left the slums to Manchester United in three years – Anthony

Manchester United winger, Antony has opened up on living in a favela named after hell to playing in the Premier League.

The Brazilian moved to the Premier League side last summer from Ajax after impressing in the Eredivisie.

Antony has gone on to become a key player for the Red Devils.

United paid over £82million for Antony, who has netted three times in six league fixtures.

But the 22-year-old has now opened up on the poor conditions he was born into.

“I was born in hell. That’s not a joke. For my European friends who don’t know, the favela where I grew up in São Paulo is actually called Inferninho — ‘little hell’,” he wrote for the Players’ Tribune.

Antony added: “In the beginning, I played barefoot, on bleeding feet. We did not have money for proper shoes.

“I went from the slums to Ajax to Manchester United in three years.”

  • Ray Parlour slams Manchester United’s Anthony for doing his trademark pirouette

Ray Parlour slams Manchester United’s Anthony for doing his trademark pirouette

Arsenal legend, Ray Parlour, has slammed Manchester United winger Antony’s showboating in the game against Sherrif Tiraspol on Thursday evening at the Old Trafford.

Parlour said that a five-year-old could do what Antony did, describing the player’s showboating as ‘laughable’.

He added that  there was no particular reason for spinning the ball twice and then lose it.

Recall that Man United defeated Sheriff at Old Trafford, with Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo all getting on the scoresheet.

Manchester United Coach, Eric Ten Hag replaced Anthony at Halftime with Marcus Rashford but claims it wasn’t because of what the player did.

Anthony tried showing his trademark pirouette before overhitting a pass which went out of play as at when the game was still goalless.

When asked for his opinion on Antony’s ill-judged display of skill, Parlour told talkSPORT, “He doesn’t need to do that, does he?

“If you are under pressure and you do something like that to get you out of a situation, fantastic.

“You want to see great skill at a football match, you want to see someone [do something that makes you say], ‘unbelievable, how did he do that?’.

“But there are certain types of games where you want to see that.

“When there’s no one around you, what’s the point in going around twice and then kicking it out of play? That’s laughable. A five-year-old could do that.

“He will [Ten Hag] soon have to say, ‘keep it simple’. Be effective, as Ten Hag says, run in behind, get in those pockets, I want to see you do something, I don’t want to see you doing that.”

Showboating: Why I substituted Anthony at halftime – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has explained why he substituted Brazilian forward, Anthony at half time in the Europa league match against FC Sheriff.

Wth the scores still 0-0, Antony pulled out his trademark double 360 degree drag-back spin  skill, before over-hitting a pass straight out of play.

Ten Hag has now explained  that it wasn’t because Anthony was showboating in the match.

The Red Devils won 3-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday night to confirm their place in the knockout stages.

They would avoid a play-off against a Champions League drop-out if they beat Real Sociedad next week.

    However,

Ten Hag replaced Antony with Marcus Rashford before the teams came out for the second half.

But the United boss insists his decision was pre-planned.

“It was more or less planned. If we were [winning], I wanted to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford close together, that was one of the reasons.

“Also to bring another dynamic over to the right side.

“I thought over the left side Alejandro Garnacho was playing quite well and he had a real threat in his actions, really good tempo dribbles, so that was good to see. So it [Antony’s withdrawal] was more or less planned,” Ten Hag told BT Sport.

Anthony scores on debut as Man Utd end Arsenal perfect start

Manchester United earned a thrilling victory as Antony scored on his debut and ended Arsenal’s winning run this season with an intense game at Old Trafford.

The Gunners had won all five of their games so far and United have now won their last four on the spin.

Arsenal were on top for long periods, pegging United back in their own half with Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli a persistent threat.

But United’s £82m signing from Brazil was clinical when his opportunity came, curling his shot around goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale against the run of play.

Arsenal got back on level terms when Jesus lost control of the ball in the box and it fell to Bukayo Saka, who comfortably turned it home before Bruno Fernandes picked out Marcus Rashford with a sublime pass six minutes later and the 24-year-old calmly finished his shot.

Mikel Arteta’s side seemed to still be in control until Rashford got his second of the game – a clinical finish from a speedy counter-attack.

In his words: “I have dated one of my colleagues. This happened when I first came back from the UK. I had a relationship with someone I was working with. With that you cannot tell people your relationship because If it doesn’t work out and you move on to somebody else, they tend to say you have dated several people. So I keep my relationship private”.

Anthony in an interview narrated how he came about the name Monajro.

“Monjaro is a stage name I created, my real is Anthony Akposheri. But another Nollywood actor also bears Tony Akposheri, I decided to change it but I wanted something African. I adopted Monjaro from Kilimanjaro Mountain because of my height. I just tweaked it a little. I decided to have a stage name for distinction”

  • BREAKING: Trump sacks his media chief, Anthony Scaramucci

White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is out of the job after less than 10 days in the post.

“President Trump has decided to remove Anthony Scaramucci from his position as communications director, three people close to the decision said Monday, relieving him just days after Mr. Scaramucci unloaded a crude verbal tirade against other senior members of the president’s senior staff.” New York Times reports.

Mr. Trump’s chief of staff Reince Priebus and spokesman Sean Spicer both left their post over his appointment.

The decision was made by Mr Trump’s new chief of staff, John Kelly, US media report.

Background: Scaramucci recently got upset over a report published in The New Yorker and decided to call Ryan Lizza [The reporter] and started heated conversations without asking for background or off-the-record privileges.

In the call, Scaramucci hounded Lizza to give up his sources, threatened to fire the entire White House communications staff, and gave what Saddam Hussein would have described as the mother of all quotes in an effort to bash fellow backstabbing Trump insider Steve Bannon:

“I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock,” he said. “I’m not trying to build my own brand off the fucking strength of the President.”

Bannon declined to comment on Scaramucci’s charge that he sucks his own cock.

It’s hard to believe that it was barely a week ago, on July 21st, that Scaramucci was given Trump’s top press job.
