  • Mind your Language: Rape charity group warns Anthony Joshua

Nigeria born British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has come under heavy attack from Rape charity group after the group picked holes with his comment over Cristiano Ronaldo and his rape allegation.

Joshua who is full of admiration for the Portugal international who he noted keeps waxing strong despite all the distractions, highlighted tax and women as some of the obstacles of success for athletes.

‘I’ve always said two things you’d get f***** for as an athlete is women and tax, he’s got f***** for both and he’s still smiling, still strong,’ said Joshua at a promotional event in New York. ‘You need mental strength, he’s proved that.

‘He’s a family man, he’s got that aspect, but still out working and he’s dedicated to what he does.

‘So as a sportsman he’s had the issue of one side, he’s got the family on the other side, and he balances what he’s passionate about,” he said

But Joshua’s submission has been condemned by the Rape crisis body for England and Wales who described the submission as inappropriate and trivialisation of a serious issue.

The comment it added should not be coming from a person like Joshua considered a role model.

Katie Russell, the Rape Crisis England and Wales national spokeswoman, told The Telegraph: ‘It’s inappropriate, insensitive and disrespectful to make jokes or flippant remarks about allegations or instances of sexual violence and abuse in any context.

‘Arguably, those in the public eye, who may be considered a role model to many, including impressionable young people, have a particular responsibility not to trivialise such serious issues.

‘Experiences of sexual violence and abuse, can have wide-ranging and long-term impacts on victims,’ and survivors’ health, lives and relationships.

‘As a society, we need to develop more empathy and understanding about that if we are ever to see more of those impacted by sexual violence and abuse get the support they need, want and deserve.’

  • Haye warns Anthony Joshua over scheduled fight with Miller

David Haye has warned Anthony Joshua not to be ruled by emotion when he fights Jarrell Miller on June 1.

The ex-heavyweight champ publicly gave the advice to the current king after he trash- talked his opponent at two heated press conferences over the past week.

Writing in his Betfair column, Haye said: “The odds might be short on another AJ win against Jarrell Miller, but don’t underestimate his opponent. Trust me, there is always danger in the heavyweight division.

Whenever there is a heavyweight who is undefeated, who stands 6ft 4ins tall and weighs 23 stone – well, all it takes is one punch. Anthony Joshua got decked by a 17 stone Wladimir Klitschko. Why can’t Big Baby Miller do the same? If he detonates a big shot on AJ’s chin, then he’s vulnerable.”

At their first presser, Miller shoved Joshua and accused him of being on PEDs amid a barrage of other insults.

In response, AJ bit back with his own uncharacteristically aggressive talk – a side to him the public has rarely seen.

David Haye fears Joshua might end up using anger as motivation for his upcoming fight. A dangerous proposition.

Haye continued: “He wants to get AJ angry and give himself a better chance of landing that big shot, and we’ve seen that in the last week in the press conferences for the fight.

I completely understood the gamesmanship we’ve witnessed. It seemed to rattle Joshua. I hope he calms down, listens to his coach and picks his punches because if he goes toe-to-toe, gets angry and fights with his heart on his sleeve he could end up walking onto a knockout shot.

Remember, he nearly came a cropper against Dillian Whyte because there was so much heat before the fight that AJ went into the ring desperate to do a number on him. Come fight night, he got too close and walked onto a big counter left hook that nearly knocked him out. Hopefully, AJ learned his lesson from that one – not to let his emotions rule his head.”

  • Surgeon Anthony Joshua vows to reconstruct Miller’s face

Heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua warned American challenger Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller on Monday that he would strip him of his soul and reconstruct his face at Madison Square Garden on June 1.

The fight in New York will be WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion Joshua’s U.S. debut.

Coming face to face at a news conference amid tight security at a plush West London hotel, the usually calm Joshua was riled when Miller suggested the Briton was ‘too posh’, chinless and with his nose in the air.

“Come June 2 and Jarrell will be irrelevant,” said the 29-year-old, who has a record of 22 undefeated professional fights, 21 of them by knockout and who told reporters he had 10 more years ahead of him.

“I don’t know football, rugby, NFL, basketball or kick-boxing. I know how to knock people out and beat them up,” added the 2012 Olympic super-heavyweight champion, in a dig at Miller’s kick-boxing past.

Joshua said a knockout ‘needs to happen’ to announce his presence in the U.S.

Monday’s news conference came after a similar one in New York last week that ended in pushing and shoving between the two fighters.

If the physicality was missing in London, there were still plenty of barbs, delivered with a strong sense of theatre but no real menace.

“All that spirit that this boy’s got in there… I’m going to strip it from him… I’m going to strip him of his soul in that ring. I’m going to reconstruct his face and his body on June 1. I’m looking forward to it,” said Joshua.

“I’m going to be your surgeon.”

Miller, also undefeated and with a record of 24 fights (23 wins and a draw), said he planned to stop Joshua in seven rounds.

The American, pretending to snore at one point as Joshua talked about his past from teenage streetfighter to world champion, said all he had heard since arriving in London was talk of Tyson Fury.

Fury and promoter Frank Warren this month signed a deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions, which has a multi-year contract with ESPN, which will see former world champion Fury fight a minimum of two bouts per year in the United States.

“He’s not the powerful one, no more. I come to the UK and I hear Tyson Fury, Tyson Fury,” said Miller.

“He (Joshua) is a sucker, bro… he’s not ready for me.”

  • Wilder, Fury fight can happen, says Anthony Joshua

Unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua insists a future meeting with WBC champion Deontay Wilder or fellow Briton Tyson Fury will not be held up by television companies.

Joshua, Wilder and Fury are now signed to rival US broadcasters, making future negotiations arguably more difficult.

“Broadcasters are a platform to make our dreams come true,” Joshua said.

Joshua will fight in the US for the first time when he defends his IBF, WBA and WBO titles against Jarrell Miller.

The pair will meet in New York on 1 June at the iconic Madison Square Garden – also the site of Tuesday’s news conference.

Joshua, 29, says he will “beat and knock out” 30-year-old American Miller – who began Tuesday’s encounter by using both hands to shove Joshua and send him stumbling backwards on the stage – before turning his attention back to a unification bout.

A meeting with Wilder seemed inevitable after Joshua beat WBA champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBO champion Joseph Parker to add those titles to his IBF crown, but the pair were not able to agree terms and the fight is yet to materialise.

Wilder went on to face Fury in December, retaining his belt after a enthralling draw in Los Angeles which has left both men – and the public – eager for a rematch.

Joshua has opted to face unfancied Miller, who has 23 wins and a draw but has never fought for a world title.

“We’ve been trying to negotiate with Wilder since I fought Carlos Takam in 2018 so these things have already taken time,” Joshua said on Tuesday.

“We’ve come close, had a date booked, an offer in place, so there is no reason why these fights can’t take place.”

  • Boxing: Anthony Joshua to fight Jarrell Miller in June

Anthony Joshua will fight in the US for the first time when he defends his IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight titles against Jarrell Miller on 1 June.

Joshua, 29, will take on Miller at Madison Square Garden in the undefeated American’s home city of New York.

Miller, with 23 wins and a draw, has never fought for a world title.

The 30-year-old will almost certainly be the heaviest opponent Joshua has faced as a professional having weighed 22st 7lbs in his last contest.

That is almost five stone heavier than what Joshua weighed in at ahead of his victory over Alexander Povetkin in September.

Miller – nicknamed ‘Big Baby’ – won 20 of his fights by knockout but Joshua represents a huge step-up in class.

Joshua said: “I am heading to the Big Apple and I plan to embrace the culture and leave with an appetite for more.

“It has been an honour and a blessing to fight at some of the best venues in the world and at home in the UK, not least Wembley Stadium, but the time has come to head across the Atlantic and defend my heavyweight titles in the USA.

“I am looking forward to taking on another challenge with a good boxer and a brilliant talker. It will be an exciting fight. I will leave nothing to chance and plan on dismantling Miller in style to make my mark.”

  • Boxing: Anthony Joshua camp begging for fight – Wilder

Boxing: Anthony Joshua camp begging for fight – Wilder

Anthony Joshua’s team are “begging” for a world heavyweight unification bout, says WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

The American, 33, controversially drew with Britain’s Tyson Fury in Los Angeles earlier this month.

The WBC has since sanctioned a direct rematch after a “unanimous agreement” in a meeting of the board of governors.

“They’re definitely begging now. His management have been trying to reach out to mine all of a sudden,” Wilder told Joe Rogan’s podcast on Monday.

“He could have had this opportunity, he had many opportunities; he could have fought Luis Ortiz, he could have fought me, he had a chance to fight [Tyson] Fury.

“But people want to know who’s the best, especially after seeing this Fury fight, and I’ve been trying to show people who is the best. I’m always going to say I’m the best until I’m defeated.”

A bout between WBC champion Wilder and Joshua – who holds the IBF and WBO, WBA belts – would unify the titles in the heavyweight division.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has previously engaged in failed negotiations with Wilder’s team.

The 29-year-old British boxer is yet to confirm an opponent for his next fight on 13 April at Wembley Stadium, with Hearn saying “it comes down to what Wilder wants to do”.

“Wilder is our absolute first and golden choice,” Hearn said.

“Anthony will then become undisputed champion and then I think it’s only right Fury gets his shot as well.”

  • Anthony Joshua celebrates 29th birthday with hilarious dance

The Unified heavyweight World Champion, Anthony Joshua, celebrated his birthday after dancing hilariously around the gym in just his boxers.
Joshua began his birthday celebrations after turning 29 on Monday, as he shared a snap of himself with a giant chocolate cake, along with a video where he shouts ‘one life’.
The heavyweight champion appeared to be in no mood to let the celebrations fizzle out though and was also captured unleashing some moves to hit song ‘Smile’ by Lil Duval in the gym.
Joshua could be seen thrusting his hips and waving his hands in the air as the song blasted around the gym during a break in his workout.
He is currently enjoying some downtime after beating Alexander Povetkin by knockout in his last bout, before deciding whom to face next.
Celebrations began on Monday when AJ held a sparkler in one hand as he posed for a photo while dressed in a white shirt with his glasses on.
The 29-year-old has a record of 22 wins from 22 fights, including 21 by knockout and celebrated with close friends and family and a giant chocolate cake. He was happy to joke around as his friends sang Happy Birthday in the restaurant
The British boxer was all smiles as he continued to relax after beating Alexander Povetkin. His next fight is already confirmed for next April at Wembley, although the challenger is yet to be decided
He had been tipped to face Deontay Wilder but now Eddie Hearn claims the American’s camp will not discuss a deal before the Tyson Fury fight, and so will not be ready in time.

  • Anthony Joshua will hold titles for long time – Klitschko

Anthony Joshua will hold his world heavyweight titles “for a very long time”, says former champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Briton Joshua, 28, is the IBF, WBO and WBA champion and beat Klitschko by knockout in April 2017.
“We will see how much and how big his desire is to stay successful,” said Klitschko.
“It’s easy to have success for a short period of time but to maintain it for a long time is really challenging.”
He added: “I’m a fan of Joshua so, due to his athletic qualities and age, I think he is going to hold the belts for a very long time.”
Klitschko’s nine-year reign as lineal world heavyweight champion was ended by Britain’s Tyson Fury in 2015 before he failed to regain the IBF and WBA titles in the 11th-round defeat by Joshua.
Joshua produced a stunning seventh-round stoppage to beat Alexander Povetkin and retain his title in September.
However, he has yet to fight WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder after discussions over a bout to unify all the belts fell through.
If the two do meet in the ring, Klitschko, 42, believes the result “could go either way”.
“Anthony Joshua is younger, he is definitely got talent, he’s heavier and he has heavy hands,” said the Ukrainian.
“Wilder is lighter. He has more experience in the professional boxing ring whereas Joshua is Olympic champion and has a great Olympic background, which Wilder doesn’t have.”
