  • Joshua is best world heavyweight boxer – Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson believes Anthony Joshua is the best heavyweight in the world, ahead of the likes of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, Metro reports.

Joshua holds the IBF, WBA (Super) and WBO champion, while his direct rival Wilder is the WBC king. Wilder and Joshua were in talks to fight this summer, but it now seems the American is set to take on Fury later this year.

Fans are desperate to see the top heavyweights go to war, but Tyson thinks Joshua has already proven he is the best.

“Right now, Anthony Joshua seems to be the best out of the whole lot of them,”Tyson told Seconds Out.

“He’s the stronger guy, bigger guy, more put together, more put together as far as boxing skills are concerned as well.

“I think he’s the best fighter out of the lot.”

Wilder has told Joshua he will not accept the invitation to fight him at Wembley in April after being enraged by AJ’s decision to pull the plug on negotiations this summer. Fury too has slammed Joshua for refusing to face Wilder, and the heavyweight has dismissed reports he is considering pulling out of his showdown with the WBC champion.

Wilder was ringside for Fury’ last fight in Belfast to announce their bout, but no date or venue has been confirmed.

“Just a quick update, I’ve been reading and I’ve heard some rumours that this fight is off with me and Wilder,” Fury said.

“Not on my watch it ain’t. I’m not pulling out of nothing, it’s on like Donkey Kong. Tyson Fury is like a king coming to America.”

Meanwhile, former British world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis believes Joshua should listen to what the public wants, with regards to his proposed fight with Wilder, GiveMeSport reports.

A bout between the two has been on the cards for months now, but with AJ’s next fight occurring next month against Russian Alexander Povetkin, boxing fans across the globe will be forced to continue longing for Joshua and Wilder to step into a ring together.

Lewis believes Joshua should consider the view of the masses when it comes to setting up a clash with Wilder.

  • Anthony Joshua refuses to fight Wilder in America

The fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder has yet to be finalised, as the heavyweight rave of the moment has refused to fight in the United States out of concern over the judges and referees potential bias, MARCA reports.

However, the conversations between both parties continue to be held and Joshua, along with his representative Eddie Hearn, has been the most recent party to make a move and take the lead in the negotiations.

Matchroom Boxing, who have masterfully handled the boxer’s career thus far, are only willing to accept to make the jump to the United States under their own conditions.

Not even the offering of £50m from Wilder’s team to have the fight in Las Vegas has managed to convince Hearn.

In addition, Joshua has already expressed what is essential for the fight.

“I owe it to all those who have been supporting me in Great Britain, I must make an effort to get this fight to be in the United Kingdom,” he said in an interview.

“Wilder has said ‘well, great, come fight with me in the United States’. But the thing is that I owe it to my fans to do it here.”

According to Joshua, there is also a second reason to prevent the battle from taking place on US soil.

“Secondly, if I go to the US, there are many tricks that can be done in terms of referees and judges, and that is why I want it to be at home,” Joshua explained.

However, the Englishman has not closed the door on the fight despite the location still being yet to be determined.

“Fortunately, we have enough time to make the fight happen and we are working on it,” he concluded.

  • Deontay Wilder ready to battle Anthony Joshua in the UK

Deontay Wilder ready to battle Anthony Joshua in the UK

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says he is “ready to come to the UK” for a unification bout with WBA, IBF and WBO title holder Anthony Joshua.

American Wilder, 32, said his team are “ready to meet” the Briton’s side for talks and “the sooner the better”.

Barry Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport, which promotes Joshua, confrimed that negotiations could start this week.

Joshua, 28, defeated New Zealander Joseph Parker on points to claim the WBO title in Cardiff on Saturday.

However, a potential Joshua-Wilder meeting is complicated by the fact the International Boxing Federation has ordered a fight between heavyweights Dillian Whyte of Britain and Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.

The winner would become the mandatory challenger for Joshua’s IBF crown.

A bout between Joshua and Wilder would deliver the first man to hold all four major heavyweight titles.

Joshua had said after Saturday’s victory that he is in “the most powerful” negotiating position and his side are “serious” about talks.

Wilder released a statement on Tuesday saying “I want to congratulate Anthony Joshua on his win last Saturday. Anthony, I am so glad we finally heard from you on Saturday and that you want to fight me as your next opponent and you want the fight to happen in the UK.

“I accept that challenge and I am ready to come to the UK for my next fight. There is nothing on Team Wilder’s side to prevent me from fighting you next.

“You also said on Saturday that your team is ready to meet with Shelly Finkel and Al Haymon from my side to get this deal done. They are also ready to meet with your team immediately. Let us know when the sooner the better.”

  • Anthony Joshua beats Parker to unify WBA, IBF, WBO belts

Anthony Joshua beats Parker to unify WBA, IBF, WBO belts

Anthony Joshua unified the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles as a controlled performance saw him earn a unanimous points win over Joseph Parker at a tense Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The Briton used his left hand to telling effect throughout an intriguing affair, in which New Zealand’s Parker displayed swift hands, movement and impressive durability.

But his WBO title always looked like it would end up round Joshua’s waist as a significant points gap opened up, with the favourite landing a hard left uppercut in round eight and two stinging left hooks early in the 10th.

According to BBC, Parker tagged his rival to howls of concern in the 11th and he deserves immense respect for becoming the first man to take Joshua to the scorecards, which read 118-110 118-110 119-109.

Joshua raised his right hand on ring announcer Michael Buffer’s reading of the cards and he now holds three of the four recognised world titles. Parker looked to the sky.

But the New Zealander played his part in a compelling evening and brought colour to an intriguing build-up.

Never before had two world champions from the glamour division met to unify titles on British soil. For the away fighter this was a whole new level of scrutiny; for Joshua, it was a third consecutive stadium fight, with a cumulative 250,000 seats sold in the process.

Each fighter walked to the ring to an accompaniment of strobe lights, flames and fireworks, with the estimated 78,000 in attendance providing a glittering background as smart phones lit up the tiers.

When the bell rang, Parker looked sharp, flicking his left jab to keep his opponent at bay and maintaining a guard with just his right hand, compared with two high hands from Joshua.

Afterwards, Joshua pointed to a bout he felt came down to “boxing finesse” and there is no doubt he used the jab and repeated left hooks tactically to stave off his opponent’s threat.

It took until the halfway stage before either man truly began to load their shots, as early respect gave way. Parker, stung early in the sixth, gave chase and landed his own left hand from a crouched position.

The beaten man admitted he lost to a “better champion” but he at least showed the “granite chin” his camp had built much of their hope on beforehand.

Unlike Joshua, Parker has never been dropped as an amateur or a professional and he showed his durability in sucking up two hard left hooks early in the 10th.

This was a more chess-like Joshua. The knockout artist Britain has grown to love was forced to show us poise over 36 minutes, although the result never really looked in doubt.

  • WBO: Joseph Parker says he will show Anthony Joshua can ‘be beaten’

Joseph Parker has dismissed Anthony Joshua’s “unrealistic” claims and insists he will beat the Brit because “he’s not a god”.

The WBO heavyweight world champion was responding to Joshua’s suggestion that no human can beat him, ahead of their unification fight on Saturday.

Parker and Joshua went face to face at the Sky Central press conference and the New Zealander made it clear that he will prove the favourite wrong.

“I am a champion. I am here to take his belts back, so if he sees that as a stepping stone or a change in his life then it’s up to him, whatever he thinks,” Parker told Sky Sports.

“But I am here to take his belts back home, for myself, for my team, for my family and country. That’s it.”

When asked about Joshua’s remark that no human can beat him, Parker said: “You can say it’s arrogance, but it is not realistic. Of course he can be beaten, he’s not a god, he’s a human being – and I am going to show that on Saturday night.

“And if I do and he tries to recover, I am not going to give him the chance to recover. I am going to chase him down and get him out of there.”

Joshua is the strong favourite for the first heavyweight unification fight to take place on British shores and believes he will knock the visitor out.

Parker, though, made it clear he has more to his armoury than the renowned chin and knockout power.

“Listen, we are here for the challenge,” Parker added.

“We love challenges and whatever he brings, we’re going to be better.

“We’ve trained hard for this fight, prepared and like I said, I am confident. I will be surprised if he can catch me.”

  • Anthony Joshua replies Parker, says ‘you are talking trash’

Britain’s Anthony Joshua dismissed a claim by New Zealand’s Joseph Parker he is the “king of steroids” ahead of their world heavyweight title unification bout.

The two boxers will meet in Cardiff on March 31, with Joshua, a London 2012 Olympic gold medallist, looking to add Parker’s World Boxing Organisation title to the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organisation belts he already holds.

Whoever wins at the 74,500-capacity Principality Stadium, best known for staging Wales rugby union internationals, will be eyeing a bout with World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

After his fight with Joshua was confirmed on Sunday, Parker gave an interview to New Zealand’s Radio Sport in which he said: “They call me the king of pies, but I call him the king of steroids.”

But Joshua, speaking to newswire reporters at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday, said the “pies” jibe was the work of British television chat show host Graham Norton and dismissed Parker’s allegations of drug use.

“I’ve heard so much in boxing trash talk that nothing’s new anymore,” Joshua said.

“Can I sue him?” he asked to laughter from reporters.

“I know my records are clean,” insisted the 28-year-old Englishman. “That’s why I don’t bite at it.

“It is what it is. If I’m not clean, you’ll find out this fight. If I haven’t been clean for all my other fights, you’ll see me struggle against Parker because anything I have been taking will be out of my system. You’ll find out this fight whether I am the super-human or I’ve got something pushes on this super-human power he says I have.

“Trash talk has a place in boxing if it’s natural but you shouldn’t use it as a tool to sell the fight. I would never put on an act to sell a fight.”

Both boxers will be putting their unbeaten professional records as well as their titles on the line.

Parker’s camp suggested Joshua has a weak chin, citing as evidence how he was knocked down by Wladimir Klitschko last year, before getting off the canvas to be crowned world champion.

Anthony Joshua cemented his status as the best pound for pound heavyweight boxer on the planet after overpowering his challenger Carlos Takam at the Cardiff Principality Stadium.

Joshua retains his belts and to 20-0 with 20 knockouts, even if this was hardly the showcase that many observers expected.

It was a bloody bout in Cardiff, and Joshua picked up an injury early on and may have broken his nose after a clash of heads.

Takam, 36, took the fight with 12 days’ notice after Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev picked up an injury.

The Cameroon-born fighter caught Joshua with some shots, but they didn’t have enough power to hurt the champion.

In the 10th round, the referee stepped in to stop the fight after Joshua caught Takam with a hook-uppercut combination and was moving in to land more blows.

Joshua had only boxed 55 rounds professionally entering tonight’s bout. He has added 10 more to that ledger.

  • I was disciplined to greatness at Mayflower School – Anthony Joshua confesses

Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, the IBF, WBA and IBO heavyweight champion has recalled how the disciplines he received at Mayflower boarding school, Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria, for just six months positively impacted his boxing career.

In 2002, Joshua joined his Nigerian mother Yeta in the African nation for six months at the age of 11 and attended Mayflower school, Ikenne founded by the late educationist, Dr. Tai Solarin.

Joshua and his family later returned to the UK, and he resumed the path that led to him to greatness today.

‘I thought I was going there (Nigeria) on holiday,’ said the 27-year-old who also has an Irish-Nigerian father, Robert.

‘I wasn’t prepared for it. It was a boarding school as well.

‘At the time you think ‘Why?’, but as you get older you think it was good that you experienced it. It was good for me.

‘I think my mum was trying to do some business there; maybe she had it in her mind. You don’t just randomly decide to move there. She might have been thinking about it, but didn’t inform us because we were kids. We stayed out there, not long, only six months.

‘It was a change and I thought I was going to go for the full course: 5.30am in the morning, up fetch your water, put like an iron in your water to warm it up. Your clothes had to be washed and ironed.

Joshua originally thought he was going on holiday but ended up staying six months

‘It wasn’t an issue but I wasn’t prepared. It was a good discipline.

‘We got beaten. That’s my culture: beating. The government raises your kids now; parents aren’t allowed to raise their kids, because there is so much control about what you do or what you say. In the (Nigerian) culture it’s family, outside support; everyone has a role in raising the kids.’

Joshua, last visited Nigeria – where he still has family in Lagos – 13 years ago.

‘I thought I was in heaven (when I returned to England),’ said Joshua, who continues to be linked with having a future fight in his mother’s homeland.

‘(But) when you are in sport you become a representation of people. I’ve got it (an outline of Nigeria) tattooed on my arm, so people can relate to me.

‘I don’t know if (a fight there) will happen.’

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Joshua beat Wladimir Klitschko after 11 rounds on Saturday to win three of the four heavyweight titles that belonged to Fury, who relinquished all of his titles in 2015 after his license was suspended pending investigation for doping and medical issues.
