2023: Zoning or no zoning, I will contest – Anyim declares again

    …I won’t be a regional president – Anyim

Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, a frontline presidential aspirant, has again said, zoning or no zoning, he would run for office of president in 2023.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said he was prepared to take Nigeria to the first quarter of the 21st century, adding that he was not out to represent a regional interest.

“I am not running, because the party’s ticket will be zoned to my region,” he said, adding: “I have good knowledge of the country. I am not seeking to lead a region but the entire country.”

Speaking during an interactive session with multi-media publishers in Abuja, Anyim further said: “Whether zoning or no zoning, I will contest. I am contesting because I have something to offer to Nigerians”.

Claiming the offices he held in the past had groomed him for the task ahead, he assured Nigerians that they would see a difference if he emerged president in 2023.

“The two offices I served in the past are not the same. I’ve headed the parliament, but I have not head the executive. I brought stability to the Senate, I want to bring stability to the country. If you want to see what I did as SGF, you can look at the Godluck Jonathan presidency.

“I have not been president, that is why I am vying for the office. I have a good knowledge on how to manage our diversity. I have acquired a lot of experience to run the affairs of the country,” the former Senate President said.

Anyim, who rolled out his plans for the youths, said the world was not waiting for Nigeria and as such, the youths must be groomed for fourth generation jobs.

According to him, “Whether we like it or not, the fourth generation jobs are here. Most jobs today will be history in the next few years. We are getting to the next quarter of the 21st century and between 2026 and 2050, most of today’s job will be history.

“Knowledge economy will drive the economic direction,” Anyim said of the 21st century industrial revolution the youths should be prepared for.

On fight against corruption, Anyim said he would ensure institutions were strengthened.

“The institution should be allow to do there work. For the institutions, we will put in place messures that will not allow corruption. By the time we deployed technology, where private sector drive every segment of our economic and national life, there is no way people will engage in corruption. People will have no option than to do their work without thinking about corruption.

“I was part of the people that made laws for the establishment of ICPC and EFCC. We will look at them and see how far they have gone. We will use a modern system that won’t allow a window for corruption,” Anyim explained.

Anyim who is contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also described as an honest, peace-loving and kind politician.

These were the praises showered on the one time President of the Senate by the Coalition of Northern Supporters of Ndigbo for President 2023 in Abuja when they visited Senator Anyim to pledge their support for his aspiration.

Chairman of the Group, Alhaji Usman Sulaiman Shehu, popularly known as SK who stated these said the group, after analysing all the presidential aspirants as well as prospective ones was convinced that Senator Anyim would give Nigeria the right leadership that will take the country out of her present deplorable situation.

He said that after long deliberation, the Group was convinced that the only person from the South East who meets the Coalition’s criteria for the Presidency “is none other than Distinguished Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.”

Expatiating on the criteria, Alhaji Shehu said, “during one of our Executive meetings held on the 26th December, 2021 here in Abuja, it was decided that our focus must be based on a single candidate from the South East” and that such a candidate must be a “person with high personality profile” and a person with developmental leadership quality.

Other criteria according to Shehu are: “a person who cares for the less privileged and the masses, a person whose vision is for the peaceful co-existence of Nigerian citizens as a whole, a person whose ample experience would enable him to raise the level of our country by means of curtailing the continuing hike of prices of goods and services.

Alhaji Shehu went further to list other criteria as: “ a person who will provide employment opportunities to our teeming youth and women, a person who dedicated his life for service to humanity, a person who will stabilize the fuel and power sector of the economy, a person who will design means for affordable or free quality education”, among others.

The chairman further said, “we wish to seek for your approval sir, to commence consultations and to register lots of members in the north” pledging to continue to pray for Anyim’s success “in this formidable journey knowing fully well that your success is Nigeria’s success as well.”

Receiving the Coalition, Senator Anyim thanked them for their support and commitment to work for his victory.
He assured them that he would work with the Coalition once campaign begins and urged them to feel free to join other campaign groups that were already supporting his aspiration in registering with the Anyim Campaign Organisation.

“Chief Shonekan was called to national political leadership as Head of the Interim National Government on the 26th of August 1993, when Nigeria was facing grave national leadership challenge. His maturity, humility, integrity and candour helped Nigeria to manage those turbulent and uncertain months the Interim National Government lasted.

“Chief Shonekan remained commited to the unity, peace and development of Nigeria. In 1994 Chief Shonekan founded the Nigerian Economic Summit Group NESG, a private sector led think-tank and policy advocacy group that has continued to promote the development of the Nigerian economy.

“By his death, Nigeria has lost a committed patriot who did everything he could for the good of the country and her citizens.

“Nigeria will sorely miss Chief Shonekan’s expertise, wise counsel and moderating voice of reason on national issues, especially now that our country is going through difficult times.

“I pray that the good Lord will comfort his immediate family, friends and numerous associates. May the soul of our leader, father and elder statesman, Chief Ernest Shonekan find eternal rest in the bosom of the Lord. Amen”.

2023: South East PDP leaders endorse Ex-Senate President, Anyim’s presidential aspiration

…insist he deserves it as a detribalised statesman

    … unblemished administrative records
As the race to 2023 general elections accelerates, the South East Peoples Democratic Party PDP zonal and state executives have thrown their weight behind former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim presidential aspiration.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports that the most visible aspirant from the zone that rightly deserves the presidential slot has been Anyim who appears to have intimidating credentials as a former Senate President and ex-SGF.

The endorsement took place at a briefing and consultative session hosted by Anyim, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in Enugu on Thursday.

The political leaders from across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, said they were endorsing Anyim taking “due cognizance of his precious record of distinguished and unblemished service as President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”

The PDP zonal leaders and elders said in all the positions, Anyim distinguished himself as a detribalized statesman, consensus builder and true nationalist.

In a ten-point resolution issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by Senator Theodore Orji, former governor of Abia State, who also chaired the session and Chief Duru-Iheoma, SAN, former chairman of PDP in Imo State, the Southeast PDP stakeholders reiterated that the people of the geo-political zone “have earned the right to occupy the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 on account of their eminent qualifications and overwhelming contributions to the development of all parts of the federation through the years.

They said because of that, “the choice of a South East citizen as presidential candidate of the party in 2023 will guarantee to every Nigerian a sense of equity, justice and inclusion in the management of the affairs of the nation. In our view, this is the best way of ensuring that we build a nation that leaves no one or group behind.”

The resolution further read: “On account of the foregoing, we congratulate Senator Anyim Pius Anyim for the patriotism of his decision to offer himself for national service by aspiring to contest in the 2023 Presidential race.

“We take due cognizance of his precious record of distinguished and unblemished service as President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation. In these positions, he distinguished himself as a detribalized statesman, consensus builder and true nationalist.

“We, therefore, unanimously endorse his aspiration with all conviction and enthusiasm and eagerly commend him to the rest of the nation as a worthy leader who will pilot the affairs of the nation towards greater security, unity and prosperity for all citizens.

“In furtherance of the foregoing, we hereby oblige Senator Anyim his request that we all join him to persuade and reassure every part of the country to do justice to the South East and thereby promote equity and justice as core values of our nation.

“In assuring Senator Anyim of our support for his aspiration, we wish to also extend the same hand of support and solidarity to all qualified and deserving sons and daughters of our zone with similar aspiration and who reach out to us as Senator Anyim has done.

“It is our solemn appeal to all the peoples of the South East zone to remain steadfast in the hope that we can all join hands in solidarity with all other parts of the federation to build a prosperous nation founded on democracy, equity and inclusion to the benefit of this great nation.”

In his speech, Anyim said he is stepping out with a sense of humility, as a Nigerian with patriotic fervour, considerable knowledge of Nigeria – its diversities and current challenges; and so properly equipped with clarity of the needed solutions.

“Let me elaborate; as a young officer, at the then Directorate of Social Mobilization, I understood the need for value orientation as a tool for instilling patriotism.

“I was also schooled to appreciate the value of social justice, equity and fairness as building blocks for social harmony and inclusion.

“As a young politician I imbibed the founding vision of the PDP as a grassroot movement that would provide leadership that will respect the rule of law, ensure that power belongs to the people and deliver national cohesion and inclusiveness through good governance.

“I have been privileged to understand our national problems and appreciate their enormity and peculiarities in the last 21 years from my vantage positions in both the legislative and the executive arms of government.

“Therefore, I have a clear view of the task ahead as well as the solutions needed to advance the cause of our country.

“My records as President of the Senate and as Secretary to the Government of the Federation clearly show that I am more interested in building strong institutions than seeking enhancement of personal power or position.

“My records show effective and efficient management of the nation’s diversity on the basis of equity, justice, fairness and inclusiveness.

“I am a committed believer in the rule of law; and will always promote and protect the sanctity of lives as well as the rights and liberties of all citizens.

“My decision is a product of some years of prayers, reflections and introspection on not just my capacity and preparedness to take on the task ahead, but also deep thoughts on our national challenges and the solutions they demand.”

Anyim who reiterated his earlier position that he will contest whether the presidency is zoned to the South or not, however said if the presidency is zoned to South East, it will satisfy the just demand of equity and fairness.

“If it is not zoned to the South East, it will remain a burden on the conscience of the nation.

“Let me therefore at this point join all wellmeaning Nigerians to appeal to all the political parties to take the fair, just and equitable decision to zone their presidential slots to the South particularly the South East.”

Present at the meeting were all the zonal and state executives of the PDP, Senator T.A. Orji, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dr. Ali Odefa, PDP National Vice Chairman, Southeast, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Senator Obinna Ogba, Dr. Frank Nweke, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, Senator Emma Nwaka, Senator Chuka Utazi, among others.

“Indeed, we all still mourn many Nigerians that died and lament for those that got dislocated, some permanently, from these sad developments of 2021.

“From the ashes of 2021, I see hope for Nigerians in the new Year 2022. God promises us Hope in times of despair, strength in times of weakness, recovery after tragedies. Our Maker also promised that He will never forsake us in times of trouble.

“I therefore charge Nigerians to key into the promises of God in this New Year and stand strong as the overcomers we are as children of God.

“In 2022, let us demonstrate courage and determination to pull our country back from the precipice.

“One way of achieving this triumph is by taking even more seriously, our duties as citizens and obligations to be our brothers keepers.

“We must dedicate ourselves to building a more peaceful and cohesive society with justice and equity for all our people and neighbours.

“I wish fellow Nigerians a happier, safer, more peaceful and prosperous 2022”.
