“I’ve not started my campaigns-Tinubu reacts to coalition moves

President Bola Tinubu has reacted to growing political realignment ahead 2027 elections by a coalition of opposition figures, allegedly working to dislodge him in the 2027 presidential election.

Among the coalition are high-profile politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, and Abubakar Malami.

Since its launch in March, the group’s activities have stirred public interest and allegations that the APC is undermining the alliance through defection inducements and internal sabotage.

Recent defections to the APC include the governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom and all three senators from Kebbi State.

Despite the fact that INEC has not lifted the ban on political campaigns, President Tinubu has garnered endorsements that critics claim contravene the Electoral Act.

During a working visit to Nasarawa State on Wednesday, Tinubu aligned with the comments made earlier by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga. He described the APC’s political moves as countermeasures to early opposition action.

He lauded Governor Sule’s performance and emphasized support for the state’s progress.

“Those stirring early politics under the guise of a coalition are political agitators. Ignore them. Real work is being done here in Nasarawa.”

    He continued:

“I don’t intend to begin early campaigning. But no serious politician can stay silent while an organised attempt is being made to unseat him.”

This statement, coming in the wake of renewed criticism by El-Rufai, highlights the escalating political rhetoric as Nigeria approaches the next electoral cycle.

Ahead 2027: “If Tinubu fails to fix economy, I will dump APC-Sen.Ndume vows

The senator representing Borno South senatorial district, Ali Ndume, has revealed that he could dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Tinubu fails to fix the country.

Ndume, who recently has been critical of Tinubu’s government, stated that he has attended coalition meetings seeking to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 and won’t be shy to reveal if he will leave the party.

He said, “I’m aware of the opposition coalition. I went to several of their meetings. I still believe this president can fix these things, but failure might cause me to move. The overloaded ship will sink,” Ndume said during an appearance on Arise Tv on Tuesday.

“They have been making overtures, but I told them I don’t want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. I have to be sure.

“I believe that Tinubu can be a successful president; that was my expectation, but if he continues this way, that ship, whether you load in other people or governors, you are just endangering the APC by pushing it towards capsizing.

As the president said, there is a vacancy in the ship. But if you overload the ship, it will probably capsize, and if it capsizes, you lose everybody,” he said.

The former Senate chief whip also criticised recent defections to the APC stating that it is not out of genuine desire but ‘indirect stick-and-carrot political appraoch’.

His words: “Most people are not joining based on principles but due to the indirect stick-and-carrot politics. And that is not healthy at all.

“I feel when you build a house and it’s leaking you dont leave the house, you stay to fix it.”

The two members are Peter Akpanke representing Obanliku/Obudu/ Beware federal constituency of Cross River State, who is leaving the PDP and Prof Paul Nnamchi representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo federal constituency of Enugu, who is leaving the Labour Party.

While Akpanke said he was dumping the PDP because of protracted crisis, which has defied solution, Nnamchi also hinged his decision on the leadership crisis in the Labour Party.

The letter of defection of the two lawmakers was read at plenary on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.

Akpanke however expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to fly its flag, adding the absence of peace in the party has necessitated his decision to move to another party.

The Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, has arrested the suspected killer of Mr Nelson Adepoyigi, All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Ward 5, Ose Local Government Area of the state.

Adepoyigi was abducted by gunmen on Monday, May 13, while parking his vehicle at his residence along Ifon/Owo Road in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose.

Mr Adetunji Adeleye, State Commander, Amotekun Corps, disclosed this on Monday in Akure during the parade of 32 suspects arrested for different crimes across the state.

According to Adeleye, the suspect has confessed and taken us back into the forest where we recovered the body of the deceased and items taken from the family.

“We have handed the body and items over to the family. In the last two weeks in the state, we have been able to ensure that there is no ransom paid for kidnapping, which remains the position of the people and government of Ondo State.

“On kidnapping, we have 10 suspects and majority of them have victims who identified them. We have two robbery suspects, also with the victims who identified them, while we have one suspect each for rape and anti-grazing.

“From this analysis, I want to say that Ondo State is relatively peaceful. We want to assure farmers, especially, that in line with the directives of Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Amotekun rangers remain domiciled in the forest,” he said.

  • JOE INIODU; Historic rally as Akwa Ibom becomes APC State

JOE INIODU; Historic rally as Akwa Ibom becomes APC State

    By Joe Iniodu

The arena spangled with an assortment of colours – white, red, purple , yellow , grey, green, brown- either as uniform worn by different groups or flags fluttering as banners coalescing into a constellation of colourful spectacle. The atmosphere was boisterous as music from the speakers intertwined with varying entertainment from various groups. The mood hightened into an electrifyingly ecstatic symphony. The human traffic within and outside the arena bourgeoned to almost inelastic point. The massive crowd underscored the historic nature of the day. As it could be said, if one were to spiritually appraise the event, it could indeed be described as the day the Lord had made.

The day was June 21, 2025 . It was the grand reception of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D into the fold of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Eno had on June 6, 2025, announced that he was “progressively moving to the All Progressives Congress,” citing enlightened State interest as the motivation. He had therefore, earlier that day resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)- the platform that brought him to power and which is almost in smithereens due to internal wranglings. June 21 was therefore set aside for the reception and his official admission into APC, a surer platform from where he could prosecute his second term ambition without any legal ambush .

Information to the public had put the commencement of the event for noon. But by early morning, the arena was thronged with a mammoth crowd. The breadth of Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard which hosts the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium had the two sides of the road crammed with vehicles leaving people the choice of parking at endless distances and taking long walks to the venue.

So passionate were the people that they didn’t mind to walk kilometers to the venue. By 12 noon, the venue was jam-packed to its brim. Time was ticking. At about 1.15 pm, blaring sirens rented the air, signalling the arrival of the expected dignitaries. At exactly 1.18 pm, a coaster bus conveying the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno and many other dignitaries rolled into the arena. As they stepped out of the bus, the crowd erupted in ecstacy . The arrival coincided with when a popular music artiste in the State, Mr Xto was doing one of his pulsating renditions, “Na you Dem Send.” The moment witnessed a blend between a Governor who has endeared himself to his people and a song which long held the appeal of the people. As the governor moved around the arena waving at the people and gyrating subtly to the music, flags fluttered, displaying a rainbow of scenic splendour. The joy of the people knew no bounds.

Then came the speeches . The Chairman of APC in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo opened the floodgate with his welcome address. He welcomed the dignitaries expressing profuse and special gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was represented by his dependable Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Vice President in his own capacity and the President of the Senate who himself an illustrious son of Akwa Ibom. Ntukekpo thanked and welcomed Governor Eno into the APC fold, noting that the decision to join the ruling party will best serve the interest of the State.

The Deputy National Chairman of APC, South -South, Rt. Hon.(Elder) Victor Geidom in his remarks described the day as an important date in the history of Nigeria. He said that despite the fact that the region contributes so much to Nigeria, it could not really get its due because it was in the opposition. He said he was happy that four of the States in the region are already in the ruling party and expressed optimism that very soon all the States in the region shall belong to APC. Geidom thanked Governor Eno for the laudable decision adding that it would strengthen the party in the region and at the national level.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State described the day as the best day in the land of the South -South. “Once upon a time, I was an orphan”, referring to the period when he was the only APC governor in the South -South stating that he used to ponder over the dissonance between the enormous contributions of the region to the national coffers and the paltry rewards that accrue to States in the South-South implying that belonging to the ruling party will change the dynamics. Governor Otu used the occasion to endorse President Tinubu for a second term using a voice vote, to which the crowd responded in the affirmative.

The governor of Imo State who is also the Chairman, Progressive Governors Forum, His Excellency , Hope Uzodima in his remarks, said he was delighted to witness such a mammoth crowd. He expressed his joy for Akwa Ibom people for the decision they have taken adding that they will not regret it. Governor Uzodima used the occasion to inform the people that President Tinubu is addressing all our national challenges and so needs concentration, not distraction . He called for national unity and cohesion asserting that they are prerequisites as we march towards the nation’s collective goal.

The President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON who was also a high point of the event, began his remarks with a song. Known for his enigmatic soapbox skills , he said, “I want to speak to the import of today’s occasion”. He then proceeded with some dramatic syntactic parallelisms” I want to speak. I want to say etc”. When he launched into the main message , he left the people reeling with many patrotic take aways.

Looking straight at Governor Eno, Akpabio said, “today is for you my dear brother Umo Eno, today is for President Tinubu, today is for Akwa Ibom State, today is for Nigeria”. He described Umo Eno’s change of party as a movement, not defection. He said the event was Akwa Ibom’s unification with Nigeria recalling that the South -South has always been with the centre. Then he waxed prophetic, ” I see you being the first governor to be elected in 2027 and the President getting 99.9 percent of the votes” . He referred to what is happening in the State as “political maturity.”

Akpabio who lauded Vice President Shettima as one of the most intelligent Nigerians also praised the National Chairman of APC, Dr Umar Ganduje for his frankness and political sagacity. He recalled how Ganduje announced in Calabar that the South -South would produce a Senate President at a time when he was not a national chairman. He lauded his fairness and thanked him for providing strong leadership to the party.

Governor Umo Eno’s time to address the gathering was marked with dramatic moments. He was heralded to the podium with a song “Who is your guy” performed by Spyro. The Governor and the people in the crowd gyrated to the song. After the momentous moment, Eno started a worship song, “I am going higher….” to which the crowd joined with enthusiasm. He said he was joining APC as a means of aligning with the centre so that the State can unite the Arise Programme of the State with Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government to push for a better deal for our people. He described his joining the APC as a progressive action towards enghlightened State interest . Governor Eno further stated that he was moving to the centre to have the latitude to support the bold and audacious reforms of Mr President pointing out that even though he was not responsible for the squalor that has afflicted the Nation, his commitment towards reversing the drift should be supported.

Eno thanked Akwa Ibom people for standing by him, adding that even though he is now firmly in APC, he will be a governor for all.

Going philosophical and spiritual, Governor Eno said, “we are not afraid of the future or the storms ahead . We are bold and courageous for the one before us is able to take us through the storms. ” Eno made a passionate plea to the Federal Government to help Akwa Ibom State to realize the dream of Ibom Deep Seaport, noting that the singular action would give adequate justification for the movement that is being celebrated.

The National Chairman of APC, Dr Umar Ganduje who conducted the official admission of Governor Eno into the APC family described the mammoth crowd as colourful and jubilant adding that from the faces of the people in the crowd , it is clear that they were there voluntarily. He thanked the President of the Senate, stating that from the quality of infrastructural facilities like the stadium that he has seen, he can say without any fear of equivocation that Akpabio was a successful governor. Speaking on a lighter note, he said that the stadium where the event held was as beautiful as the wife of the Senate President.

Ganduje, while calling for national continuity, consolidation, and sustainability in governance, announced that the Governor shall be the leader of APC in the State while the Senate President remains a national leader.

The President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President, His Excellency,Kashim Shettima assured Governor Umo Eno of the full support of the Federal Government stating that Eno will not regret the decision. He thanked Akwa Ibom people for their pledge to support his Administration.

The colourful event which has largely been described as a unity rally seems like a new dawn for Akwa Ibom State.

Gov Diri denies dumping PDP for APC

Duoye Diri, the Bayelsa State Governor, has denied reports alleging his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the speculation stemmed from recent remarks made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

Speaking at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, during a thank-you visit by the lawmaker representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Rodney Ambaiowei, and other stakeholders, Diri said he remained unfazed by the reports.

He said, “If for any reason there has to be a movement, you are the people who will advise me because you voted for me.

“The decision to move or not will be made based on the interest of the Ijaw nation and Bayelsa State, not my personal interest only. So, do not mind what is trending.”

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Dan Alabrah, also explained that his attendance at the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road flag-off ceremony had fueled the speculation.

He clarified that his presence was simply to show appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the inclusion of Bayelsa in the project, which he said is critical to the economic progress of the Niger Delta region.

Diri said, “A fortnight ago, I was invited to Lagos for the inauguration of a section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the flag-off of phase two of the Nembe-Brass road.

“I raised observations when I saw a map of the coastal road displayed in the hall with Bayelsa and Edo states missing. I immediately drew the attention of the contractor and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to the anomaly. They admitted it was an error and said it would be corrected.”

Governor Diri linked the fresh wave of defection rumours to remarks made by Umahi during the event.

“When it was the Minister’s turn to speak, he gave me special attention, saying the Bayelsa governor was thinking progressively and working progressively. A lot of people then assumed that the deal had been done.

“The Minister of Works started this new wave that the Bayelsa governor was about to defect because of the attention he brought upon me on that day. But at the end of the day, what is important is whether we can bring development to our place,” he explained.

Commending the people of Southern Ijaw for supporting his Prosperity Administration, Diri urged political stakeholders to eschew divisive politics and focus on unity and development.

  • What Tinubu said at APC’s grand reception for Gov Eno

What Tinubu said at APC’s grand reception for Gov Eno

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday officially received Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom into the All Progressives Congress (APC), and promised more support to the government.

Speaking at a grand reception in honour of Eno in Uyo, Tinubu said that APC would provide the needed support for the governor to deliver democracy dividends to Akwa Ibom people.

Represented by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, Tinubu told Akwa Ibom people that the governor’s decision to join APC would be of immense benefit to the state.

“In APC we build bridges, and not walls. We mend fences, not destroying it. Our president is a bridge builder, your decision to join APC is one you can never regret.

“Be assured that you won’t be humiliated or forsaken, we are your brothers, we shall rise together. We are not an assemblage of politicians, we are a family.

“We will stand by you, as we stood by Godswill Akpabio, who went through fire because of our party. We are all with you, we shall succeed together,” he said.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said that the reception in honour of Eno was a reunification of the South-South states to the centre.

Akpabio said that Eno’s defection to APC was not just a defection but a movement to the progressive family, saying, “this move will bring more dividends of democracy to the state.

“What we have here today is not just a political movement, but political maturity. Eno has placed the peace and development of Akwa Ibom above party lines.

“We say welcome to the progressive family. We are convinced that you will add value and not only number to the family. We shall move from celebrations to collaborations.

“I see things turning around for good in Akwa Ibom, you are a man of your words, there is nothing anybody can do to you,” Akpabio said.

Earlier, Eno said that his move to APC was to align with the centre, and support Tinubu’s economic reform initiatives.

He said that the Ibom Deep Seaport project was part of his reasons for joining APC, and urged the president to support the state towards realizing the project.

“We are not afraid to join APC, we know that with our new party, we will realise our Ibom Deep Seaport project, this is our plea.

“Akwa Ibom people look up to the president, we are hopeful that this movement will bring blessings to us,” Eno said.

He used the occasion to assure the president of Akwa Ibom peoples’ support to deliver democracy dividends to the nation and earn a second term in office.

Presenting APC flag to Eno, the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, described the governor as “wise and foresighted”

Ganduje urged Eno to remain focussed and committed towards implementing people-oriented programmes in the state.

It would be recalled that on June 6, Eno who was elected governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, announced his defection to the ruling APC.

  • Just in: Appeal Court quashes APC’s case, affirms PDP’s victories in Osun council polls

Just in: Appeal Court quashes APC’s case, affirms PDP’s victories in Osun council polls

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has dismissed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming the legitimacy of the February 2025 local government elections in Osun State.

The judgement, delivered on Friday, 13 June 2025, upheld the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its elected Chairmen and Councillors.

The panel of justices — Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye, Peter Chudi Obiorah, and Hadiza Rabiu Shagari — held that the appeal lacked merit, had been overtaken by events, and constituted a mere academic exercise.

The suit, numbered CA/AK/15/2025, was filed by the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Babatunde Nurudeen Idowu, and the APC against the Action Peoples Party (APP), INEC, OSSIEC, APGA, and Prince Adegboye Famodun.

Justice Omoleye ruled, “Critically, this Court had earlier delivered judgment on 10th February 2025 in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022, involving basically the same parties and addressing substantially the same issues.

“The said appeal has been dismissed. What is more, the fresh Local Government elections conducted on 22nd February 2025 and the swearing-in of new Chairmen and Councillors have overtaken the substratum of this dispute. Relisting the appeal at this stage would serve no practical purpose.”

She added, “In sum, this application is not only procedurally incompetent and factually unsupported, it is also one rendered otiose by subsequent events. There is no longer any live controversy.

“The matter is, in every material sense, a fait accompli, “I therefore also dismiss the application.”

Justice Obiorah, in a concurring judgement, declared, “Of course, the dismissal of the appeal means that there being no existing appeal against the judgment of the lower court, the said judgment stands as the authority defining the state of affairs as it regards the status of the officers of the various Local Government Councils in Osun State.”

He also addressed the issue of contempt, saying, “However, the issue of violation of the orders of the lower court and the alleged contempt is the 3a Respondent/Applicant’s interpretation of the action of the 3d Appellant/Respondent with respect to their treatment of the judgment of the lower court, particularly after the dismissal of their appeal by this Court on 13/1/2025.

“The said contempt is ex-facie curiae. In INEC & ANOR v. OGUEBEGO & ORS (2017) LPELR-42609(SC) (Pp. 10-12 paras. F), the highly revered and cerebral, Chima Centus Nweze, JSC (of blessed memory) stated.”

Reacting to the judgment in an X post, PDP welcomed the ruling, describing it as a confirmation of the people’s mandate and a defeat for political desperation.

The party said the Certified True Copy of the ruling had “affirmed that the Court has dismissed APC’s appeal and affirmed Chairmen and Councillors elected in the 2025 Local Government Election as the duly elected council officials in Osun State.”

“The Presiding Judge, Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye in her ruling stated that since a fresh election has been conducted and new Chairmen and Councillors have been sworn in, there is no controversy anymore,” PDP added.
