BREAKING: Only option for Fubara is to resign or be impeached – APC

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha on Monday has said the only option available for the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara to resign or face impeachment.

Speaking at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, Okocha described Fubara’s invitation of pro-Wike members of the Rivers House of Assembly to a meeting as a Greek gift.

He said Fubara was aware that the Assembly would be sitting on March 10 before inviting them for a discussion on the Supreme Court judgement.

He also said that Fubara invited the Assembly members to come and discuss about their remuneration, the place that they would use for their sitting, and also the budget.

Okocha stated that Fubara had no right to invite the Assembly to come and discuss the Supreme Court judgement since he was meant to present the budget to them.

According to him, the Governor ab initio disregarded the 8-point agenda for peace by President Bola Tinubu, who is also the leader of our party.

‘’The All Progressive Congress, as an opposition party in the state, will not sit down and watch Gov. Fubara disobey Mr President; for us, that’s an insult.

“We call on Gov. Fubara to resign within 48 hours or face impeachment; the findings of the Supreme Court is enough for him to resign, he is already sitting on a keg of gunpowder,” Okocha said.

He, however, commended the Speaker and the members of the House of Assembly for standing on their grounds till date.

BREAKING: El-Rufai abandons APC, joins new political party

Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, a former Kaduna State Governor, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai, in a resignation letter submitted on Monday to his ward in Kaduna State, cited irreconcilable differences with the ruling party’s leadership, after which, expressed disappointment with the party’s trajectory in recent years

I have diligently served the APC and made my contributions to its viability as a political platform,” he stated. “However, developments in the last two years have confirmed a troubling disregard for democratic principles and progressive values that I hold dear.”

The former APC chieftain was founding member of the party and  played a key role in securing electoral victories for the party in 2015, 2019, and 2023.

El-Rufai, while reflecting on his tenure as Kaduna governor,  highlighted his administration’s focus on human development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and investment.

He added that his decision to part ways with the APC was due to growing concerns about governance and internal party dynamics.

“At this point in my political journey, I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish,” he said.

Announcing his move to the SDP, El-Rufai expressed gratitude to his mentors, colleagues, and supporters, reaffirming his commitment to advancing democratic principles.

As a member of the SDP, I am committed to fostering a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in upcoming elections,” he declared.

PDP will fall in 2027 – Keyamo

Leaders of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday welcomed Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru into the party along with thousands of his supporters.

The event, which took place at the Ughelli Kingdom Hall, had in attendance leaders and members of Delta APC, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN); Director, NEXIM Bank, Hon. Stella Okotete; Member Representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Waive; Chairman of Delta APC, Chief Omeni Sobotie; Chief Paulinus Akpeki; Hon. Halims Agoda; Delta APC founding leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; Godsday Orubebe; and Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, among others.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru thanked members of the party and the College of Leaders for welcoming him back to the APC.

He said: “I thank you for welcoming me back to this house. A special thank you to the Hon. Minister, Festus Keyamo (SAN); State Chairman, Omeni Sobotie; Stella Okotete; and to all who have remained steadfast in the quest for good governance and the democratization of our state. This house is getting stronger and better.

“I have come to join hands with the College of Leaders of Delta APC to continue from where we stopped, to give our all, and to ensure that one day, it will be said that when the APC took over Delta State, the lives of the people changed for the better.

“I also thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouraging statement to the College of Leaders on Delta State during their recent visit to him. He (Tinubu) has assured us that he is with this body.”

In his goodwill message, the Minister of Aviation, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), who welcomed Ogboru and his thousands of supporters, noted that they had always been part of the party.

He said: “There is nowhere in politics where someone can stop people from joining a party. It is not done. You cannot close the door on people who want to join the party.”

He frowned at the move by some individuals who, in an attempt to sabotage the event, made false announcements on a radio station claiming that the event had been canceled.

“I have never seen this level of desperation in my entire life. Ogboru, who has won over 12 LGAs, Senate, and Assembly seats at the height of opposition in Delta State when PDP was PDP in Delta, did this without federal power or appointments. He is an authentic opposition leader. And come 2027, PDP will fall.”

On her part, Director of NEXIM Bank, Stella Okotete, expressed joy at joining other leaders in welcoming Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru back to the party. She stated that Ogboru was betrayed by his own brother in 2019 due to his ambition for 2023, which, according to her, marked the beginning of the betrayal.

“But thank God, Delta State APC is now stronger than ever before. It was a shame that we could only deliver 14% of the votes nationally. It was a poor outcome because some of us, who were critical stakeholders of the party, were shut out of the process. It was an ‘aide’ affair. But this time, we are going to win by a landslide for APC in Delta State, securing the governorship seat, three senatorial seats, House of Representatives seats, and Assembly seats.”

Earlier, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, who officially presented Ogboru to the College of Leaders, described the ceremony as a historic moment for everyone present. He praised Ogboru as a remarkable political leader and a man who has seen it all.

He said: “Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru’s return to APC is a significant milestone for the party. He brings with him a wealth of experience, wisdom, and an unyielding spirit that will undoubtedly propel our great party to new heights. We are excited to rally behind you. As we welcome everyone today, we call upon every member of our party to embrace unity.”

  • LG: Adeleke has lost public trust, struggling to control – APC

LG: Adeleke has lost public trust, struggling to control – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to comply with the Court of Appeal ruling, saying he has lost public trust in the state.

The opposting party said the governor to obey the court ruling reinstating APC Local Government chairmen and councillors.

Mr Kola Olabisi, the party’s Osun chapter Director of Media and Publicity, made the call in Abuja on Sunday. He spoke at a news conference about Osun’s political situation.

He stated that governance should prioritise democracy dividends, truth, and due process, not political vendettas. He criticised the ongoing discord between Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Olabisi described the conflict between Adeleke and Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, as political mockery that damages Osun’s reputation for political wisdom.

“We are deeply concerned about the political mockery in Osun, a state known for the intelligence and political astuteness of its people,” he said.

He noted that for three weeks, Osun had received negative media coverage due to Adeleke’s refusal to implement the ruling reinstating APC’s sacked Local Government chairmen.

Olabisi expressed disappointment that Adeleke ignored advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to respect the court’s decision.

“The ongoing political crisis shows that Governor Adeleke has lost public trust. He is now struggling to maintain control,” he said.

He urged Adeleke to implement the Court of Appeal’s Feb. 10 judgment in the interest of the rule of law.

Olabisi defended Oyetola’s administration, stating that all legal and procedural requirements were followed. He dismissed claims that procurement rules were violated as misleading.

He noted that contracts awarded under Oyetola’s tenure adhered strictly to the State Public Procurement Law, countering allegations of irregularities.

“The committee making these accusations was created by the new administration to target Oyetola. This is political persecution, not a genuine anti-corruption effort,” he said.

On the money laundering allegations against the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Olabisi dismissed them as unproven and lacking credible evidence.

He argued that without bank records or an independent audit report, claims of fund mismanagement and illicit cash withdrawals remained baseless.

He emphasised that financial transactions alone do not indicate wrongdoing unless backed by forensic investigation.

“For clarity, the $20.467 million was converted into ₦6.26 billion and credited by the CBN to Osun Government’s account. The CBN records confirm this,” he explained.

He maintained that governance should prioritise truth and due process, not political retribution. He challenged Adeleke’s administration to present evidence in court if credible.

“Oyetola’s legacy is one of responsible leadership. No politically motivated accusations can erase his achievements,” he added.

Olabisi highlighted Oyetola’s achievements, including upgrading 332 primary healthcare centres and rehabilitating General Hospital in Ejigbo Local Government.

He noted that Oyetola also built a world-class 120-bed ward at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, and improved medical facilities across Osun.

  • Why I joined APC – Ossai Ossai

Why I joined APC – Ossai Ossai

Chief Ossai Ossai, a former House of Representatives member, has explained that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join President Bola Tinubu in building the country.

He made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja after he was officially received into the APC by the party’s National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru.

Ossai, who previously represented Ndokwa East in the House, expressed confidence that his entrance into the APC, along with other influential figures from the PDP in Delta, would weaken the party in the state.

He mentioned that the defection of key PDP figures, including Sen. Ned Nwoko, would significantly diminish the party’s influence in the region.

He described President Tinubu as his mentor and role model, dating back to his time in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Lagos, and called him a “grand master of politics.”

He emphasised that he could only join a party whose programmes aligned with his political views and declared his readiness to collaborate with Tinubu and the APC to advance the country.

“I have come to join the political grand master whom I have followed over the years as a role model to add to whatever he is doing to better this nation,” Ossai said.

Ossai also stated that there was no division within the APC in Delta, as some had suggested, but acknowledged the existence of caucuses, which he intended to unite to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 elections.

“Tinubu is shaping the direction of the country, and I want to join him in doing that. I have left the PDP, it is behind me now, I am for Nigeria, not for political parties. I have come to join the APC to build the country in the interest of all,” he added.

Having served as a lawmaker under the PDP platform for three terms, Ossai explained that the party’s structure had deteriorated.

He confirmed that he had received an APC membership card and attended APC senatorial meetings, marking his formal entry into the party.

Ossai also pledged to abide by the rules and constitution governing the APC. He expressed his commitment to championing the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda in Delta.

He highlighted the agricultural sector as a key area benefiting Nigerians under President Tinubu’s administration.

The APC National Secretary, while receiving Ossai, congratulated him for joining the party.

He also criticised the PDP for its internal crises, caused by conflicting ambitions and lack of coordination, adding that Nigerians could not trust a party incapable of managing its affairs to lead the country.

  • Why politicians are jumping to APC – Rep

Why politicians are jumping to APC – Rep

A member of the House of Representatives, Cyriacus Umeha, has blamed the wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling party on a lack of leadership.

Umeha, representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency, disclosed this, saying that opposition parties were experiencing a leadership crisis.

“Labour Party, which I belong to, is in crisis at both ward and national levels. The PDP and even NNPP are also facing leadership crises,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed the need for opposition parties to unite and speak with one voice, saying that only then would defections stop.

He emphasised that every politician was committed to working under a harmonised and united political party leadership.

According to him, the opposition lacks credible and united leadership, forcing members to seek stability in the ruling party.

Umeha regretted the leadership tussle within the Labour Party, saying it had caused divisions and weakened the party.

“The Labour Party was seen as a third force with great expectations from Nigerians. Unfortunately, it is now in crisis,” he said.

However, he reaffirmed his dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents through developmental projects.

He stated that he had provided water to rural communities and constructed rural roads to improve livelihoods.

Umeha also urged INEC to fulfil its duty of replacing vacant seats in the National Assembly without delay.

He criticised INEC’s failure to conduct elections within 90 days as required by the constitution, calling it unhealthy for Nigeria’s democracy.

There has been a wave of defections in the National Assembly, particularly from opposition parties to the ruling party.

He revealed that on Feb. 8, 2025, Sani-Giant brought a snake to Government House, intimidating dignitaries, statesmen, and officials.

Muhammad-Kimba said that the conduct could embarrass and discredit APC.

He added that Sani-Giant’s actions violated APC’s constitution.

According to him, the party deemed his behaviour offensive and embarrassing.

“His suspension remains in place pending further investigation and possible disciplinary action, which could lead to expulsion if repeated,” Muhammad-Kimba said.
