  • We will win FCT for Tinubu in 2027 – Abuja APC

We will win FCT for Tinubu in 2027 – Abuja APC

The Abuja chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed determination to win the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Dr Mariya Mahmoud, FCT Minister of State said this during a stakeholders’ meeting of Abuja APC on Thursday.

Dr Mahmoud said the APC was also strategising to win all seats in the FCT area council’s election scheduled for February 21, 2026, and also to win all seats in the 2027 general elections.

Mahmoud said the party members had identified its problems and were ready to confront the challenges head-on.

She said that the party would take steps to ensure that the selfish interest of some identified individuals did not override the collective interest of the party.

“I can see that APC in FCT is taking shape and becoming more focused on the way forward. We have identified where our problems lie, and we are more united to overcome them.

“The result of our unity will manifest more in the area council elections coming up in February 2026 and the general elections in 2027,” she said.

The minister said that President Tinubu-led administration had entrenched inclusive governance in the FCT through the creation of Youth and Women Secretariats to give them a voice in governance.

This, she said, would give the APC an edge in coming elections.

Earlier, the chairman of the party in the FCT, Malam Abdulmalik Usman, commended the stakeholders for their tireless efforts in ensuring that the party remained united.

“I have said it before that the dedication of all members has continued to solidify APC’s position as the ruling party and the preferred choice of the people.

“Today, our collective resolve is key to sustaining the dominance of APC as the ruling party.

“We will continue to deliver dividends of democracy to our people and build a stronger, more prosperous nation,” Usman said.

  • Omo-Agege seeks genuine reconciliation in Delta APC

Omo-Agege seeks genuine reconciliation in Delta APC

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has said that APC chieftains in Delta are not united because there had not been genuine effort to bring opposing leaders to a roundtable since 2023 general elections.

Omo-Agege, former deputy president of the Senate, made the disclosure at an interactive meeting of the leaders and stakeholders on Thursday in Warri.

The former lawmaker noted that while reconciliation was important, it must be genuine and not just political rhetoric.

“I do not know any politician who does not want reconciliation. Everyone talks about it because, as they say, talk is cheap.

“But let us be honest, talking is easy, real reconciliation requires action.

“We have done everything possible, and we are still ready to do more, but only if it is genuine and based on a shared determination to win.

“No real efforts has been made to bring opposing party leaders together for meaningful discussions since the 2023 elections.

“Rather, false narratives were pushed, claiming that I and my team have rejected reconciliation.

“The last thing we heard was, they do not want reconciliation. But was there ever a real attempt to reconcile? no,” he said.

Omo-Agege noted that successes in an election required collective efforts.

He expressed gratitude to the APC leaders and members for their sacrifices and unwavering support.

The former legislator, who expressed optimism in the party’s future in Delta, urged the supporters to remain united and focused on the 2027 general elections.

He also advised them to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence, stressing that the future of Delta depends on collective effort and holding leaders accountable.

Earlier, Prince Yemi Emiko, APC chieftain in Warri South, urged party leaders and members in Delta to unite and support Omo-Agege.

He said that Omo-Agege had rightfully earned the leadership of the party in Delta through hard work and grassroots mobilisation.

According to Emiko, leadership is earned and not enforced.

He, however, criticised those attempting to claim the party leadership in Delta without meaningful contributions to the party’s successes.

  • What Tinubu said at APC NEC meeting

What Tinubu said at APC NEC meeting

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), at its meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu.

The motion was moved by Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo and seconded by Sen. Adams Oshihomole, a former APC National Chairman and one time Edo governor.

The NEC also zoned the party’s national chairmanship position to the North West.

President Tinubu said the commendation from the party’s highest decision-making organ was a call for more hard work, and promised not to fail the party faithful.

“I am happy with your vote of confidence, and I accept it. The vote is a challenge to do more work; we will vigorously pursue our sovereignty in food security, investment and development.

“I am happy with food prices coming down, especially as Ramadan approaches. The Sun is high, and the sky is bright outside.

“While the rest of the world unravels, we see growth in Nigeria. We are seeing a gradual return to stability. We are seeing improvements. I thank you, governors, ” President Tinubu said.

Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their continued belief and trust in the APC.

He pledged to continue working assiduously with other arms of government to ensure the greater good for Nigerians and commended APC governors and executives for their continued and unwavering commitment.

“I’m grateful to all Nigerians for the electoral successes recorded from one state to the other. Governors, you have embraced these changes, and I thank the leadership of our party. I also thank members of the National Assembly for expeditiously considering the budget.

“We can only build the party on a progressive platform to deliver good service to Nigerians,” he said.

The President also commended the party’s National Working Committee for its performance and called for measures to end some of the crises in the states.

“The NEC  is doing a very good job; I am pleased with them. However, there are a few conflicts in the  states.

“Let’s set up committees to look into the lingering problems in the states and appeal to these party leaders in various states to please be calm and  collaborative,” the President said.

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s National Chairman, thanked members for their steadfastness in the face of challenges and assured them that the party would continue to deliver on its electoral promises.

“Though the journey has been very challenging for us as a ruling party, given the big task we have at hand and the expectations from Nigerians, We can sufficiently submit that we have collectively risen to the occasion and challenges,” he said.

Sen. Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu in lifting the nation from its economic and developmental woes.

“The senate will expeditiously pass bills that will enhance our national development, improve the economy and redirect our national pathway,” he said.

Mr Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, commended the President for his vision and courage in making unpopular but essential decisions, which were pivotal to Nigeria’s developmental efforts.

APC NEC meeting took place a day after the party’s caucus meeting on Tuesday night.

At the caucus meeting, party leaders also praised President Tinubu’s administration for turning the economy around, with GDP growing by 3.84 per cent in the last quarter of 2024 and inflation going downhill.

APC caucus meeting: I didn’t get adequate notice – El-Rufai

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated his main reason he was absent at the national caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

During a recent interview on Arise TV,  El-Rufai faulted the lack of adequate notice for the meeting, noting that he had made other plans.

The national caucus meeting of the APC is a high-level strategic gathering of the party’s top leadership, including the president, vice president, national chairman, members of the National Working Committee, state governors under the party, and key stakeholders such as former governors, ministers, and principal officers of the National Assembly.

It also allows the party leadership to align on political considerations before they are deliberated at the NEC, which includes all state governors and other key economic decision-makers.

El-Rufai during the interview said: “Unfortunately, I won’t attend the APC national caucus meeting, because I will be on my way to Cairo where I spend most of my time. I didn’t get adequate notice.

“The Constitution of our party requests 21 days or I think 14 days’ notice for this kind of national organ meeting. I don’t think that notice was given. If it was given, I don’t think I’d received such an invitation.

“I’ve my plans, and I am leaving tomorrow. Many of my friends will attend and they will give me updates, I don’t think I will miss anything.

“Ramadan is starting. I’ve made my own plans too. When the party meets, I think I’ve shouted loud and clear. So we’ll wait and see what the party will do about it. I don’t have to be there. I’m not the only member of the party that’s unhappy.”

  • APC NEC: I inherited N8.98bn legal liabilities – Ganduje

APC NEC: I inherited N8.98bn legal liabilities – Ganduje

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday said he inherited N8.98 billion debt in legal liabilities.

He said this in Abuja at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held at its national secretariat.

President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, some APC governors and other critical stakeholders of the party attended the meeting.

Ganduje said the outstanding liabilities were for legal engagements during pre-election matters, election cases as well as appeals for legislative, governorship and presidential elections.

The chairman also requested for a new national secretariat to accommodate its national officers.

He said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), under his leadership, had applied to the Federal Capital Territory Administration for land.

Ganduje solicited the president’s intervention to ensure that the secretariat project materialised.

He said in fulfilment of his promise to take the party to the grassroots, the NWC had introduced a new people-centred approach to campaign administration.

Ganduje said instead of inaugurating national campaign governorship councils for states in Abuja, they are now inaugurated in affected states.

This, he said, was to allow for greater participation by party members and other stakeholders in the respective states.

According to Ganduje, the innovation has helped to engage the right people to organise and manage campaigns in their states.

He also said the party’s focus was now on regaining power in Anambra and Osun.

The chairman added that in compliance with INEC’s election time-table, the party had begun preparations for the conduct of its primary in Anambra scheduled for April.

He also said the party had embarked on reconciliation of aggrieved members, adding that the move was gradually yielding the desired results.

“Through dialogue, we initiated high level discussions among party leaders and other stakeholders with a view to resolving lingering differences among our members.

“The Conflict Reconciliation Committee, which you are about to approve, will build on this,” he said.

NAN reports that members of NEC passed a vote of confidence on the president.

This, they said, was in recognition of his bold economic reforms that were beginning to bear positive fruits.

Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo moved the motion and it was seconded by Mr Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the party.

NAN further reports that the NEC members passed a vote of confidence on Ganduje and the party’s NWC.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, were among chieftains of the party who attended the meeting.

Governors in attendance included those of Edo, Monday Okpebholo, Ondo; Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Benue, Hyacinth Alia and Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, was also at the meeting.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were, however, absent at the meeting.

Ganduje was appointed as chairman on Aug. 3, 2023, by the party’s NEC following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu.
