APC NWC disclaims ‘Leadership Council’ for Delta, as Omo-Agege, Nwaoboshi distance selves from the illegal contraption

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclaimed the setting of a “Leadership Council” for the party in Delta State.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Felix Morka, Esq, National Publicity Secretary of the party, disavowed the council.

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party has been drawn to reports circulating in sections of the media regarding the inauguration of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Leadership Council ‘approved by the National Leadership of our great Party.’
“This is to clarify that the NWC did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of the “Leadership Council” in the Delta State Chapter of our Party, as claimed by reports.

“The said “Leadership Council” is not a body created or recognized under the Party’s Constitution which clearly spells out the statutory organs, structures and committees of the Party, and their respective powers and functions. The “Leadership Council” is not one of such constitutional organs, adhoc – structures or committees of the Party”, Morka stated.
In an earlier press release, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq, State Publicity Secretary of APC Delta State, claimed that the ‘national leadership” of APC has approved the “inauguration of the Delta APC Leadership Council under the co-chairmanship of Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN and Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege CFR.
The leadership council was slated for inauguration on March 8, 2025, according to Onojeghuo.

This effectively puts paid to the controversial move set up a parallel collegiate arrangement in the running of Delta APC.

Meanwhile, the leader of APC in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi among other top leaders have dissociated themselves from the purported parallel “College of Leaders.

They stated in a statement that:
“We, the undersigned, are shocked and outraged to discover our names inexplicably linked to a purported Delta APC Leadership Council in a Notice of Inauguration signed by Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., which is currently in circulation.

“We categorically and unequivocally deny any involvement, association, or knowledge of this council, and we condemn in the strongest terms the blatant and egregious attempt to falsely affiliate us with this illegitimate and unconstitutional entity.

“The creation of this council is a flagrant and reprehensible affront to the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the principles of democracy. Its establishment is a brazen and unauthorized act that contravenes the party’s constitution and the laws of Nigeria. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that it did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of this council, contrary to their claims.

“Furthermore, we do not support the proposal that the College of Leaders should nominate party executives and select party candidates. This proposal contradicts our party’s constitution, which grants the power to elect party executives and nominate candidates solely to registered members. Our party’s constitution and extant laws clearly outline the democratic process for electing party executives and candidates, leaving no room for the College of Leaders to usurp this power.

“We therefore strongly object to our names being surreptitiously included in this document without our knowledge, consent, or participation. This is a clear and blatant violation of our rights, and an attempt to maliciously drag us into an illegal and unconstitutional venture. We will not allow our names to used to legitimize this sham contraption.

“We uphold the sanctity of the APC constitution, which emphasizes the supremacy of the party constitution for effective governance and promoting its ideals. We recognize and support all the organs established by the constitution for our State. These organs are the legitimate and constitutional bodies that govern the affairs of the party.

“While the creators of this contraption have the right to establish their own structures or pressure groups to advance their interests, they have no right to include our names without our consent. We will not participate in or support their illegitimate and unconstitutional activities.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its constitution. We will continue to work tirelessly to promote the party’s interests, unity, and values. However, we will not recognize or subscribe to any non-constitutional organ, regardless of its name or claims.

“We demand that our names be immediately and unconditionally excluded from any documents or publications related to this council. We also demand that the creators cease and desist from using our names to lend legitimacy to their illegal venture.

“We urge all party members and stakeholders to reject this illegitimate council and its unconstitutional proposals. We must stand together to protect our party’s democratic foundations and uphold the rule of law.

    Signed,
    1. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Delta State APC Leader and 2023 Governorship Candidate

…says such approval was not given

Disturbed by happenings in Delta APC concerning the strange creation of a leadership council, the party’s national secretariat has clarified such a council does not exist.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a statement issued and signed by the party’s national publicity scribe, Felix Morka on Tuesday stating that:

“I have not left APC, but APC has left me”-El-Rufai

Ex- governor of Kaduna Nasr El-Rufai has said the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has left though he still a member.

Speaking with Arise TV on Monday night, El-Rufai said his decision on PDP to the internal turmoil, stating that the party has gotten worse.

However, he did leave the door open for potential membership in another political party, such as the Social Democratic Party (SDP), should the All Progressives Congress (APC) fail to re-align itself with its founding principles.

El-Rufai emphasized that he has not abandoned the APC, but rather, the party has strayed from the values that initially drew him to its founders.

“I have not left the APC but the APC has left me. I don’t know where I will end up if the APC doesn’t come back to where we started.

“But one thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not a party that I will go to, ever. I have thought about that. I’ve decided that long ago, and nothing has changed. In fact if anything PDP has gotten worse, rule out PDP, El-Rufai declared.

‘PDP , no. Other parties, possibly, if the APC doesn’t sort itself out.”

While he expressed disagreement with certain policy implementations and the caliber of individuals appointed by President Tinubu, El-Rufai emphasized his desire for the APC to reclaim its original values.

El-Rufai also addressed speculation about a potential rift with President Bola Tinubu, stating that he harbors no ill will towards the government.

Tinubu’s Minister threatens to resign over APC leadership

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, says he will resign if the current APC state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, is re-elected.

Ata made this statement at a press conference in Kano on Monday. He reaffirmed his position, stating he would resign from both his ministerial role and the party.

He said, “This is my position to this day. We oppose the reinstatement of the current APC leadership in Kano, given what happened in the last election.

“We will not accept this situation again. If the leadership remains, I will resign from my ministerial post and leave APC.

Ata emphasised his strong moral values and respect for elders, noting, “We will not compromise our values.”

He expressed concerns over the party leadership’s statements, which he believed contributed to the party’s failure in 2023.

“We must engage individuals of integrity to gain the trust of Kano citizens,” Ata stressed.

He said, “Votes and money do not grant power; only God bestows authority.”

Ata urged politicians from all parties to promote peace, respect each other, and follow the rules.

APC lauds judgment restraining Zamfara assembly from dismissing minority leader

The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the judgment of the Federal High Court, Gusau restraining the State House of Assembly from dismissing its Minority Leader, Aliyu Ango-Kagara.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Monday by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris.

NAN recalls that the state house of assembly had recently dismissed the minority leader of the house, Aliyu Ango-Kagara, for alleged absenteeism.

Idris described the court’s judgment as a welcome development.

Idris said, “The State APC leadership welcomes the judgment by the Federal High Court Gusau for halting Zamfara Assembly from dismissing the suspended lawmakers of the house across the party lines.”

He lamented that the suspension of nine lawmakers by the assembly rendered the membership to have less than the two third majority.

“This situation will affect the activities of the house especially in passing the bills,” Idris added.

The spokesperson further described the judgment as a defence to the democracy for halting the purported allegations against the APC lawmaker and minority leader representing Talata Mafara South Constituency.

“Justice Olasupo also ordered that the status quo be maintained pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice and the substantive suit before the court.

“The court granted an interim injunction restraining the third defendant, INEC, from conducting a bye election for the Talata Mafara South State Constituency, which is currently being occupied by Hon. Aliyu Ango-Kagara.

“Justice Olasupo also ordered that the status quo be maintained pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice and the substantive suit before the court,” Idris added.

  • Benue Assembly acted within law in CJ’s removal – APC elders

Benue Assembly acted within law in CJ’s removal – APC elders

The Benue All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders’ Forum said the State House of Assembly acted within the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in removing the State Chief Judge.

The forum’s chairman, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, made the disclosure on Saturday during a press conference in Makurdi.

Gemade said that the party elders unanimously support the assembly’s decision.

The chairman told newsmen that the forum reviewed all that transpired in the assembly, engaged the leadership of the assembly and discovered that they acted within the law.

He said two-third of the lawmakers voted for the removal of the chief judge as required by the constitution.

“It is clear that the Benue State House of Assembly acted within the constitutional framework outlined in Section 292(1)(a)(ii) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“We stand in solidarity with the assembly on this decision, especially given the serious allegations that necessitated such action, including mismanagement of the sum of N666.9 million in less than one year.

“Abuse of office by acting outside the scope of his work as the chief judge, as evidenced in granting a waiver of Section 76 of the Benue State Electoral Law.

“The electoral law was duly passed by the Benue State House of Assembly and assented to by the Executive Governor of Benue, amongst other grievous misconduct,”he said.

Gemade further commended the State Assembly for promptly sanctioning their erring members who attempted to ridicule what they did collectively during the preliminary.

On allegations that the assembly sanctioned the chief judge even before directing the governor to write to the National Judicial Council for investigation, Gemade said he was only removed as a chief judge and not as a judicial officer.

He said the constitutional provisions for removing a chief judge and judicial officer were not the same.

The group further passed a resounding vote of confidence on Gov. Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Tinubu and pledged to support their second term bid in 2027.

“We call upon our Gov. Alia to remain steadfast and focused on his vision for development, urging all detractors to refrain from ill-motivated interference that could hinder our collective progress.

“On the same pedestal, we passed a resounding vote of confidence in President Tinubu for maintaining faith with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“As we massively voted for Alia and Tinubu in the 2023 general elections, Benue is prepared to repeat history come 2027,” he said.

On the call by Senate Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro (PDP/Benue West) that the National Assembly should take over the Benue House of Assembly, the group said that the senator’s call was not supported by the country’s constitution.

He said Moro’s motion was not only misguided but also demonstrated his lack of understanding of the constitutional process.

“Section 11(4), which mandates the National Assembly to take over the functions of the state assembly, can only be activated when the state assembly is unable to perform its functions by reason of a situation prevailing in the state.

“Section 11(5) explicitly defines the inability of the house to perform its functions as when the house is unable to hold a meeting and transact its business.

The Benue State House of Assembly has one leadership, enjoys full quorum at all sittings and has continuously been performing its functions.

“As elders, we urge Sen. Moro to focus on providing quality representation to his constituents rather than his desperate attempt to destabilise a performing APC administration in his home state,” he said.

Gemade further called on all stakeholders in Benue State to prioritise unity and cooperation and the opposition to engage constructively rather than seeking to undermine the progress.

This is contained in a letter dated Feb. 17, signed by the APC state Publicity Secretary, Alao Kamorudeen, addressed to the Secretary of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).

A copy of the letter obtained by NAN on Thursday in Osogbo, stated that APC would not participate based on the Feb. 10 Court of Appeal judgment which reinstated its chairmen and councillors.

The letter read: “Recall that judgment of the Federal High Court in suit No. FHF/OS/CS/94/2022 was meritoriously nullified on Feb. 10 by Court of Appeal in Akure, in appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 between APC and 3 others V. Peoples Democratic Party and others.

“By the judgment, the elected officers have resumed offices as allowed by the Appeal Court.

“The implication of the Court of Appeal judgment as cited above is that the seats are no longer vacant.

“In view of the forgoing, we hereby state that APC and all its candidates have by this letter informed the commission that we withdraw from the local government election scheduled for Feb. 22.

“Same as become unnecessary, superfluous and unlawful with the development.”
NAN reports that there had been crisis between APC and PDP over the Court of Appeal judgment in respect of the sacked APC council chairmen and councillors.

While the PDP claimed that the Feb. 10 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Akure, did not reinstate the sacked APC chairmen and councillors elected in 2022, APC insisted on their return local government secretariats.

Crisis, however, erupted on Monday when both parties were laying claim to local government secretariats across the state.

Police confirmed that six persons lost their lives and scores injured during crisis.

Osun: APC directs council chairmen, councillors to shun secretariats

Mr Tajudeen Lawal, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has directed the party’s local government chairmen and councillors to vacate their council secretariats.

The directive was issued in a statement by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Tajudeen said the directive was a sign of respect for Aderemi Abass, a former chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was killed in Ikire on Monday.

He instructed them to comply with the order until further notice.

Lawal, describing Abass as a peace-loving man, condemned his killing as inhuman, wicked, and callous.

He commended the council chairmen for adhering to the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

Lawal appealed to the police to do everything possible to apprehend those responsible for the killing.

He added that the party’s leadership would ensure that Abass did not die in vain.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports tensions between the APC and PDP following the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the sacked APC chairmen and councillors.

The PDP claimed the Court of Appeal’s Feb. 10 ruling did not reinstate the sacked APC officials, but the APC insisted on their return.

Conflict erupted on Monday as both parties claimed control of local government secretariats across the state.

The police later confirmed that six people died during the unrest.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that several others sustained injuries.

She added that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had deployed mobile policemen to maintain peace in the state.
