Real reason why Ogun APC suspended Gbenga Daniel revealed

Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly and former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, was suspended for a series of anti-party actions against the party beginning from the 2023 general elections and right up to the recent House of Representatives by-election in Remo, sources familiar with the matter have said.

The senator, whose suspension by the leadership of Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government Area, was ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC), last week, at a meeting presided over by the chairman of the party in the state, Chief Yemi Sanusi, was said to have deliberately shunned the by-election campaign of the party even when the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, visited the state to lead the campaign.

He was alleged to have sent a message to his supporters asking them to vote in the Saturday, August 17 election like they did “last time,” a reference to the March 18, 2023, governorship election during which he mobilised his supporters to vote for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Kessington Adebutu, after cutting a deal with the then candidate, who is currently standing trial for alleged vote buying and criminal conspiracy.

The APC leadership was, it was learnt, angered that the senator had enjoyed uncommon privileges since joining the party but had opted to work against it, except during his own election.

The leadership was also miffed by the allegation that Daniel and his sides began threatening the leadership of Ward 4 after an invitation was extended to him to respond to the claims against him.

It will be recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun, was prevailed upon by traditional rulers in the state, led by the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona, to back Daniel’s senatorial bid and persuade the then incumbent senator, Lekan Mustapha, to concede the ticket to Daniel.

Immediately Daniel got the ticket, however, he was said to have turned against the governor, reasoning that if he stopped the governor from winning his re-election battle, that would put him in a vantage position to secure the Ogun East re-election ticket in 2027, since he and the governor are from the same senatorial district.

In actualizing this, the senator allegedly struck a deal with the camp of Adebutu following his victory at the senatorial election.

  • You will lose 80% of Northern Muslim votes in 2027 if… – APC Forum tells Tinubu

You will lose 80% of Northern Muslim votes in 2027 if… – APC Forum tells Tinubu

The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has warned that President Bola Tinubu could lose 80 percent of northern Muslim votes if he bows to calls to jettison the Muslim-Muslim ticket and drop Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.

The North-Central APC Forum issued the warning in a statement released by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, in Abuja on Saturday.

Ahead of the 2027 election, Tinubu has come under pressure with various groups and stakeholders urging him to drop Shettima as his running mate. Some elements in the APC argue that the Muslim-Muslim ticket, which gave Tinubu victory in 2023, will not work in 2027, when he will be seeking a second term in office.

In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum, led by Dominic Alancha, warned Tinubu against a repeat of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, noting that it cost the APC several northern states like Nasarawa, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory in the 2023 presidential poll. Alancha further warned that the APC would lose more grounds in the North, particularly in the Middle Belt, if the party repeats the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the next presidential election.

However, responding to the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum’s call on Tibubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2027 election, the North-Central APC Forum, in the statement signed by Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council for the 2023 election, noted that the adoption of the Muslim-Muslim ticket was a strategy to win election and does not amount to marginalization of Christians and other religions.

Countering the Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum’s assertion that Tinubu would lose Christian votes in the Middle Belt if he goes ahead with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the North-Central APC Forum insisted that there is no way the President will lose the region, with prominent Middle Belt christians such as APC National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda and Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, along others, holding key positions.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket will not affect President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the Middle Belt, which is part of the North-Central and this is because of the key positions held by Middle Belt christians in the APC government. We can guarantee that Tinubu will get 90 percent of the votes from the North-Central,” the statement said, adding that Tinubu’s achievements in office will guarantee his reelection and as a result, there is no need to take the “needless risk of changing a winning team”.

The APC Forum advised Tinubu to maintain the status quo and go into the 2027 election with Shettima as his running mate, so as to win the election.

The North-Central APC Forum further argued that those who are asking Tinubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket did not vote for him in 2023 and would still also not give him their votes in 2027 – even if he bows to their wish by dropping Shettima.

Parts of the statement read, “Those that are calling on President Bola Tinubu to change Vice President Kashim Shettima, basing their agitation on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, if you check, you will notice that in 2023, most of their communities voted for Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

“Now if Peter Obi is to come out again in 2027, as expected, what is the guarantee that they will vote for Tinubu even if he is to drop Shettima and replace him with a Christian? Does it mean that these people will now leave Peter Obi and vote for Tinubu?”

The APC Forum accused those campaigning against Shettima and the Muslim-Muslim ticket of mischief, noting that they are seeking Tinubu’s defeat in 2027.

“The truth is most of these people are not Tinubu’s supporters, they don’t really want him to win reelection in 2027. That is why some of them are going as far as urging Mr President to drop those that went to great lengths to work for his victory in 2023. They are only trying to deceive Mr President but we believe the President knows better and will be able to see through their mischief. They don’t mean well for Mr President and the party.”

The Forum, in the same vein, alleged that some people who claim to be working for the President’s reelection are alienating and marginalizing northern Muslim communities, while concentrating attention on northern Christians.

“Another issue that we want to bring to Mr President’s attention is there are people close to him – we will not mention their names but they know themselves. They are going about in different communities in the North, giving money to some communities while excluding others all in the name of asking northern Christian communities to vote for Tinubu. But while they are doing that they are alienating and marginalizing northern Muslim communities. This is counter productive and it will backfire eventually and we don’t want Mr President to suffer because of the poor decisions of these people who are close to him.

“Now these people who are concentrating on northern Christians should consider this – what if the 2023 scenario repeats itself in 2027 with Peter Obi also contesting and President Tinubu now loses both Christian and Muslim votes? What if the Christian communities again vote for Obi and the Muslim communities who are now being neglected also refuse to vote for Tinubu?

“These are the issues that these people who are calling on Mr President to drop Shettima are either not thinking about, or are ignoring because they are up to mischief and do not mean well for the President and the APC.

“Our sincere advise for Mr President is that he should maintain the status quo that produced him. We are not in support of calls for President Tinubu to change the Vice President. Changing Kashim Shettima will not bear any positive fruit in the election because, looking at the results of the 2023 election, all the Christian dominated areas in the North voted for Peter Obi and we don’t expect a different outcome in 2027. Rather, President Tinubu risks losing a large chunk of northern Muslim votes if he listens to these calls and goes ahead to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima.

“We advise Mr President not to gamble with the 2023 election. President Tinubu will lose 80 percent of northern Muslim votes if he decides to change Shettima. Even if he decides to replace him with another northern Muslim, he will lose northern Muslim votes so the best approach is to maintain the status quo and go with what worked for him in the last election,” the statement stressed.

  • Canada’s redefinition of terrorism – By Pius Mordi

Canada’s redefinition of terrorism – By Pius Mordi

The two major political parties in Nigeria – the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – were collectively incredulous to the ruling of the Canadian Federal Court which classified both parties as terrorists organisations. It was a judgement that ran against every definition of the word, terrorism in Nigeria. To the political leadership, terrorism manifests only when gunmen, known and unknown, wield weapons and wreak havoc on the people.

In its official response, the Federal Ministry of Information resorted to the old and anachronistic use of the regular defence of government’s misdeeds, of the country being “sovereign nation with a robust legal and constitutional framework.” It provides the alibi for any action taken to maintain “law and order.” It is what informed the justification of the the withholding of discharge certificate of Miss Ushie Uguamaye, a youth corps member on national service who was sternly reprimanded for criticising President Bola Tinubu, after she complained in a Tiktok post where she described Tinubu as a “terrible leader.” Uguamaye was punished unjustly for her outspoken criticism of the government. The backlash from Nigerians was unequivocal, forcing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to issue a statement that her certificate was withheld after extending her service year by two months as a disciplinary action against her for missing April clearance.

A lawyer, Victor Giwa, speaking on Channels Television, faulted the trivialisation of the judgement by APC and PDP, noting that the ruling was in line with the Canada’s criminal law. Douglas Egharevba, a Nigerian seeking refugee status, had instituted the suit to legalise his refugee status. Inadvertently, Egharevba has introduced a new narrative on what constitutes terrorism in Nigeria. According to Giwa, “Canadian law, under the Canadian Criminal Code, Section 83, Subsection 01, defines an act of terrorism to be any political, religious, or ideological act that was done with the intention of causing death, serious bodily harm, intimidation, and risk to any life.”

The definition broadens the misdeeds of the government and political parties beyond the current military campaign against terror. In 2011, a number of young men and women had been killed in Niger State after then candidate Muhammadu Buhari had threated to visit violence on the country if the election was “rigged.” On coming into office in 2015, Buhari adopted arm twisting tactics to make the judiciary, a co-equal arm of government, subservient to him. First, he removed Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of the Federation, unilaterally using an agency controlled by his office. Then a reign of assaults on judges under the guise of fighting corruption among judicial officers in the dead of the night began.

And the general elections that brought various levels of elected representatives? It took a falling out among politicians for prominent elements in their rank to openly flaunt their ingenuity in arranging victory for their parties. It was an audacious display of impunity that showed that votes by the people no longer counted much. When Nasir el-Rufai revealed how his Fulani kinsmen were shipped into the country ahead of the 2015 election to unleash mayhem on the country should President Goodluck Jonathan fail to give them the result of the presidential election they desired, it became clear the insecurity that has now locked down parts of the country was orchestrated. Unfortunately, President Jonathan beat El Rufai and his ilk to their game and gave them the result they wanted. Having tasted the tremendous cash that came with kidnapping for ransome, not even El Rufai’s payments to the gunmen they imported could persuade them to return to their countries they were recruited.

When opposition parties are taken over by paid agents in order to render them ineffective and ungovernable, the judgement by Justice Phuong Ngo is given credence. When a state government is overthrown and an unconstitutional Sole Administrator answerable to Abuja is appointed in its place, it is terrorism taken to unprecedented height.

Going by Justice Phuong Ngo, Nigeria has been a terrorist state riding roughshod on the rule of law for many years. There is an irony in the judgement Egharevba got. He may not have got the sympathy he sought from a country with the pedigree for protecting foreigners seeking refuge. Buhari took delight in quickly getting the Independent People of Biara (IPOB) designated a terrorist organisation, but his Fulani kinsmen who have been globally acknowledged as one of the most deadly killer-group are only called bandits engaging in skirmishes with farmers.

Femi Falana has put the Canadian judgement in proper perspective. It is up to APC and PDP, by extension, the federal government, to prove the Canadian judgement wrong, he said.

When the various administrations of the political class were passing the baton of impunity from one party to another, they equated holding public office and access to the public treasury with patriotism and hard work. Buhari called the younger generation lazy. But thanks to information and communication technology, the world has become a global village. The misdeeds of the past catching up with the country and gradually shutting the exit doors to the rulers. As the saying goes, the hills have eyes. And the walls have ears too.

  • APC suspends ex-Ogun gov, Gbenga Daniel, Senator Kunle Folarin

APC suspends ex-Ogun gov, Gbenga Daniel, Senator Kunle Folarin

The All Progressives Congress, Ogun State chapter, on Tuesday suspended a former governor of the state and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, alongside one of his loyalists, Kunle Folarin.

The duo were suspended for alleged anti-party misconduct.

The Director of Publicity of the state chapter of the ruling party, Nuberu Olufemi, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the decision to suspend Daniel and Folarin, both members of the APC from Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, respectively, was taken at the State Working Committee meeting held on Tuesday and presided over by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

Their suspension followed the review of the reports of the investigation and disciplinary committees of Ward 4 and Ward 6, set up to probe allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities against the duo.

The statement partly read, “Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government set up a disciplinary committee on the alleged misconduct bordering on anti-party activities committed by Senator Gbenga Daniel.

“Similarly, Ward 6, Sagamu Local Government set up a disciplinary committee on the allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities allegedly committed by Hon. Kunle Folarin.

“They wrote to the members under investigation, inviting them to the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be heard and allowed to present evidence in their defence or request pardon from the party.

“However, both members failed to respond to the invitations extended to them in writing, failed to provide a written defence, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings at which they were to be given the opportunity to defend themselves.

“In view of their deliberate and unexplained absence, the committees deliberated as scheduled, heard from the available witnesses, considered the available documentary evidence, and deliberated on the allegations.

“In addition, the committees received notice that the members under investigation had been harassing party members and warning them against cooperating with the committees.

“It was further alleged that they had been using their positions within the party to pressure members to withdraw the petitions against them.

“In view of this development, the committees resolved to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and to eliminate interference by the members under investigation. Upon due consideration, the committees suspended the members indefinitely, pending further investigation and the outcome of the inquiry.

“Copies of the letters of indefinite suspension had been sent to the state chairman for consideration and approval of the State Working Committee.

“The suspensions were based on the members’ failure to cooperate with the investigation and their attempts to pressure party members to withdraw petitions against them. The SWC has ratified the suspensions. The meeting demonstrates the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding its constitution.”

APC rejects Anambra south by-election result

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the result of the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday.

Recall the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dr Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA winner with 90,408 votes.

Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the APC polled 19,847 votes, while Mr Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 2,889 votes.

Chief Basil Ejidike, APC Chairman in Anambra, alleged that the party’s candidate was held hostage in his home by men of the Anambra Vigilance Group.

He further claimed that a state government official, not from Anambra South, led members of Agunaechemba, the state security outfit, to restrict APC candidates in Orsumenyi.

“While he distracted our governorship candidate in Orsumenyi, the Vigilance Group held our Senatorial candidate hostage in his home,” Ejidike alleged.

Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu added that the APC did not know where the returning officer obtained the results, as most were still with electoral officers.

He accused the state security outfit of committing a serious breach of the electoral process and questioned why nobody had been arrested.

Ukachukwu said APGA’s actions revealed fear, in spite of its claims of popularity, and suggested the party avoided a genuine popularity contest.

“They know Anambra is tired of APGA and their government,” Ukachukwu stated.

He recalled that at a pre-election security meeting, it was agreed the state security outfit would not participate and should be disarmed.

“Instead, they openly carried guns, arrested people, and detained them in their own cells. If it were APC, they would accuse us of using the Police and Army to intimidate them,” he said.

Ukachukwu stressed that the APC would challenge the declared result, insisting it did not reflect the people’s will. He expressed confidence in APC’s chances in the Nov. 8 governorship election.

PDP, APC trade blame over Zamfara by-election

The Zamfara chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are trading accusations over alleged irregularities in the Kaura Namoda South by-election.

The PDP State Chairman, Dr Jamilu Magayaki, told journalists he was satisfied with voter turnout and the orderly conduct of the electorate during the exercise.

He alleged that the peaceful process was disrupted by APC officials, who, in collaboration with some security operatives, interfered with the election monitoring.

According to him, what transpired in Sakajiki and Kyambarawa was not an election, as PDP officials and members were chased away from many polling units.

He further claimed that security personnel openly aided APC officials in manipulating the process, leaving PDP supporters disenfranchised in several polling areas.

Magayaki commended the orderly turnout of voters in spite of intimidation by security operatives at polling centres across the constituency.

He urged voters in the affected five polling units in Sakajiki and Kyambarawa to remain resolute and participate massively in the forthcoming rerun election.

Similarly, APC Publicity Secretary, Alh. Yusuf Idris, in a statement in Gusau, accused the PDP of deploying thugs and Community Protection Guards to destabilise the poll.

Idris commended the resilience of voters who defied challenges and participated in the State Assembly by-election in spite of hostile conditions.

He alleged that the government in power deployed unlawful machinery to intimidate and harass voters, but stressed that the people remained determined and focused.

Idris claimed that manipulation agents were working hard to overturn the inconclusive results but expressed confidence that INEC would resist being dragged into electoral malpractice.

He urged APC members, supporters, and the public to stay calm while awaiting INEC’s decision on the matter.

The APC leadership, he added, would strongly resist any attempt to alter the people’s mandate in Kaura Namoda South.

  • APC reacts over inconclusive Zamfara by-election

APC reacts over inconclusive Zamfara by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency bye-election in Zamfara inconclusive.

The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu of Federal University Gusau said that the declaration followed the cancellation of results from some polling units in Sakajiki and Kambarawa wards.

Sa’adu said  the total number of registered voters in the affected polling units stood at 5,446, while 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in those areas.

He explained  that the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 7,001 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 5,339 votes, leaving a margin of 1,662 votes.

Sa’adu stated that the margin was less than the total number of PVCs collected in the cancelled polling units, therefore, the election cannot be concluded.

The electoral umpire sited Sections 24 sub section 2 & 3, Section 47 sub section 3, and Section 51 sub section 2 of the Electoral Act 2022 as reasons for declaring the election inconclusive

He said  the Electoral Act 2022 and the Manual for Election Officials, such a situation arises where the margin of lead between the two leading candidates was not in excess of the number of collected PVCs in areas where elections were cancelled.

According to him, therefore, the Returning Officer shall decline to declare a winner until supplementary elections are conducted.

The retuning officer also said that the two registration areas affected by the cancellation were: Sakajiki Ward, with two polling units affected, having 1,357 registered voters and 1,298 PVCs collected.

The other was Kambarawa Ward, with three polling units affected and having 4,088 registered voters and 1,964 PVCs collected.

Sa’adu, therefore, declared the election inconclusive, pending the conduct of a supplementary poll in the affected polling units.

He said INEC would announce a new date for rerun election in the five affected polling units across Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards.

    Inconclusive by-election: Zamfara APC reacts

Meanwhile, the Zamfara chapter of APC has commended the electorate for the massive turnout in Saturday’s Kaura Namoda South State Assembly Constituency by-election.

Reacting to the outcome of the election, in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday, the State APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the electorate’s support to the party during the by-election as timely.

“The state APC chapter wishes to appreciate the kind support and resilience of the electorate during the elections despite all the challenges.

“We appreciate people of Kaura Namoda South State Assembly Constituency for turning out en mass and voting for APC in spite of the harassment from thugs and members of Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) in the polling units.

“The by-election election has shown the strength and continued acceptance of the party in the state by the electorate,” he said.

Idris added that APC was very much appreciative with the voters as it was leading with over 1,600 votes, adding , “this is a clear indication of where the people’s faith lies.

“Although the results for the election were declared inconclusive, we are confident that the electoral umpire, INEC will not allow itself to be used for the denial of the rights of the electorate.

“We also appreciate our leaders, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their constant support and encouragement to the operations and management of the party in the state.

“We call on members and supporters of the APC and members of the public to remain calm,” he added.

  • APC vice chairman accused of stealing election materials, breaks silence

APC vice chairman accused of stealing election materials, breaks silence

Mustapha Salihu, the National Vice Chairman (Northeast) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations that he stole election materials during Saturday’s State Constituency by-elections in Adamawa State.

Recall, irate youths in Ganye had blocked Salihu’s SUV, accusing him of hiding Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and a ballot box in his vehicle.

The footage that surfaced on social media sparked suspicions that he was attempting to compromise the electoral process.

However, speaking at a press conference in Yola, Salihu dismissed the claims, insisting that he never attempted to manipulate the election. According to him, his actions were to protect sensitive materials from what he described as a deliberate move by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to disrupt the counting exercise.

Salihu said, “What actually happened was that the Speaker of the State Assembly and the PDP Chairman mobilized thugs to snatch election materials because it was obvious they were losing.

“I immediately asked security operatives to disperse the crowd and ensure only party agents remained to monitor the sorting and counting of ballots.

“The thugs became violent, and I quickly intervened by instructing a police officer to secure the materials. Afterwards, we called the AIG to send reinforcements. That’s exactly what happened – I never moved an inch with the materials as alleged. Why would I snatch election materials at a unit where I was clearly winning?”

Citing specific polling unit results, Salihu noted: “At Unit 06, Ganye 1 Ward, APC scored 86 votes while PDP got 36. At Unit 010, APC had 65 votes while PDP got 40.

“The PDP State Chairman, Barr. Shehu and the Speaker mobilised to destroy ballot boxes after officials refused to compromise the results.

“On receiving reports, I rushed there with police officers, secured the materials, and handed them over to security reinforcements, exactly as seen in the viral video.”

He added, “This was at the ward of the PDP State Chairman, who vowed to resign from politics if he lost. They recruited commissioners, LGA chairmen, and the Speaker to hijack the process. But I stood my ground until the police took charge. What motive would I have to snatch ballot boxes when my party was winning?”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Misa Musa Jauro of the APC the winner of the Ganye State Constituency House of Assembly by-election, held to fill the vacancy left by his late brother.

Jauro polled 15,923 votes, narrowly defeating the PDP candidate, Buba Muhammed Joda, who secured 15,794 votes, a slender margin of just 129 votes.

  • IPOB reacts as Canadian court labels APC, PDP ‘terrorist groups’

IPOB reacts as Canadian court labels APC, PDP ‘terrorist groups’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has welcomed hailed the alleged ruling by a Canadian court, which it claims designates Nigeria’s two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as terrorist organizations.

The spokesperson, IPOB, Emma Powerful in a press statement issued on August 16, 2025 said the reported decision validates its long-standing position on Nigeria’s political and security challenges.

“This is a defining moment. The global community is beginning to see the truth about the political structures that have subjected our people to decades of repression and human rights violations,” the statement read.

Powerful also recounted the Nigerian civil war of 1967–1970, insisting that the historical injustices of that period continue to fuel its call for self-determination. The group maintained that its mission remains “non-violent” and rooted in the pursuit of a peaceful separation through legal means.

The group criticized past efforts by the Nigerian government to ban it, stating that these actions were politically motivated. They called on the international community to pay more attention to the rights of indigenous communities seeking self-rule.

As of the latest update, Canadian judicial authorities have not confirmed the alleged ruling. Additionally, neither the Nigerian government nor the APC (All Progressives Congress) and PDP (People’s Democratic Party) have issued official statements in response to IPOB’s claims.
