CONNOTATIVE WAR! APC declares Peter Obi as Nigeria’s prophet of doom

All is definitely not too well between the ruling party and LP’s 2023 flag bearer, Peter Obi in the last one week.

To this end the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the LP’s leader Nigeria’s prophet of doom
over his comment on the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that Peter Obi, during a media chat on Thursday, asserted that the country’s political, economic and security situation is worsening daily, contrary to the positions of Tinubu’s government.

According to him, Nigeria has fallen from being the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of $574 billion and a per capita income of over $3,500 in 2014, to now ranking fourth on the continent.

In response, the ruling party, in a statement on Thursday through its Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said Peter Obi’s claim is misleading, especially when all indicators show that the country is rebounding in significant measures which casts the former Governor of Anambra State squarely, as Nigeria’s leading doomsayer.

Morka also criticized Peter Obi for projecting himself as omniscient and a philosopher’s stone when addressing national challenges, stating that he left no significant achievements or transformations in his eight years at the Government House in Awka, Anambra State.

According to him, while Nigerians celebrated the new year with hope for a glorious 2025, Obi was seemingly stuck in a replay of his jangling, gloom-ridden wishlist for the country.

Morka added that, like his co-travellers in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi’s obsessive pessimism and endless but futile efforts to incite public outrage against Tinubu’s administration are borne out of their realization that the President is unwittingly cementing their ultimate political irrelevance through his visionary, full-throttle reform and transformation of the nation’s fundamental pillars.

The statement read, “Obi’s New Year message, in which he claimed that the political, economic and security situation of our dear country is worsening daily, is misleading and appears intended to score cheap political points. This claim, at a time when all indicators show that our country is rebounding in significant measure across all sectors, casts Obi, squarely, as Nigeria’s leading doomsayer.

“Despite these and other initial beneficial outcomes of ongoing unprecedented reforms, the administration is doubling its effort to ensuring that the reforms deliver their fullest benefits for the sustainable growth and transformation of our country.

“In his New Year message, President Bola Tinubu acknowledged that the “cost of food and essential drugs remained a significant concern for many Nigerian households.” To reverse this trend, Mr. President assured that his administration was committed to lowering food prices by boosting food production and promoting local production of drugs.

“It is a thing of irony that Peter Obi, who now arrogates to himself to be omniscient and philosopher’s stone, when it comes to our nation’s challenges, left no record of significant achievement, let alone transformation of any kind, in his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

“Like his co-travellers in the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Obi’s obsessive pessimism and endless but futile effort to incite public outrage against the administration is borne out of their realization that President Tinubu is unwittingly cementing their ultimate political irrelevance by his visionary and full-throttle reform and transformation of the fundamental pillars of our national life.”

2025: APC guber aspirant eyes political rebirth in Anambra

Mr Paul Chukwuma, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra, says the state will witness political, economic and security turnaround in 2025.

In a New Year message, Chukwuma said 2025 would make the beginning of return to as one of the most peaceful, prosperous states in the country by Anambra. The message was entitled: “Hope Rising in Anambra State.

“The year 2025 is Anambra’s year of hope and rebirth. Anambra state will recover her lost glory and retake her position as one of the most peaceful, prosperous and prestigious states in Nigeria.

“It is the year our dear state will rise again to repossess the fullness of its glory and respect among Nigerian states.

“Anambra will shrug away its present leadership and cast aside the dark clouds of insecurity. Yes, Anambra shall rise again this year,’’ he said.

He said it was unfortunate political leadership of the state had failed to meet the aspirations of the people. The aspirant further said 2025 offered the people of the state the chance to change the narrative by choosing a new administration that would bring positive changes to them.

“This is an election year in Anambra State. We are at the threshold of change. I trust the people of Anambra to make an objective decision about their own happiness, their own greatness and their own lives. This is Anambra’s year of glory and it shall be well with Anambra State,” he further declared.

APC stalwart sounds alarm to party members in Delta

A chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta, Dr Tonye Timi, has advised the leadership of the party in the state unite and build the party in 2025 or it would perish.

Timi, a former lawmaker, who represented Patani Constituency in the Delta House of Assembly, gave the advice in an interview in Abuja on Thursday.

He said it was clear now that as 2025 unfolds electoral success would not be achieved through wishful thinking. According to him, the proverbial “Godot” will not arrive to fix our political system.

“Instead, the responsibility falls on individuals and parties to organise, strategise, and act. This realisation is especially urgent for the Delta chapter of the APC, a party in opposition that seems lost in chaos, acrimony, and disunity,” he said.

He said there was need for focusing on strategic planning to challenge the well-entrenched Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state instead of infighting going on among APC leaders in Delta.

He observed that this internal dysfunction betrayed a lack of understanding of the essential principles that define the purpose, functions and roles of political parties.

“The Delta APC, like any opposition party, has a choice to continue on its current path of disarray or rebuild itself as a formidable political force.

“Waiting for external salvation is futile. The task of organising, strategising, and acting rests with party members. In politics, power is never handed over; it is contested and won.

“If the Delta APC fails to unite and refocus, it risks permanent irrelevance. The time to build is now. It is my ardent belief that APC needs repentance, forgiveness and restoration,” he said.

The former lawmaker also said that political parties were vital to democracy as they provided platforms for candidates, articulate policies and streamline decision-making.

“Without a unified pursuit of power, a political party becomes hollow, losing its essence and influence because it is an organised entity that seeks to gain and wield political power through elections.

“Members of a party are united by shared goals and ideologies, working collectively to influence governance and policy.

“It is unlike pressure groups that advocate for specific causes. Political parties aim for comprehensive control of the government’’, he said.

Timi further said that in a democracy, opposition parties were indispensable, as they hold the government accountable, as well as critique policies and propose alternatives.

“Their role is not merely to oppose but to enrich democratic governance by preventing authoritarianism and preparing for future leadership. An effective opposition ensures transparency, fosters public debate, and offers voters a credible alternative,” he said.

APC aspirant plots fall of APGA in Anambra

All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant in the upcoming Anambra governorship election, Mr Paul Chukwuma, has urged his campaign council to work towards claiming the state from All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Chukwuma made the call on Wednesday in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state during a meeting with his primary election campaign council.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Anambra  governorship election for November 8. It is one of the off-cycle polls in the nation’s election calendar.

The council comprises youth coalition and women groups in his country home.

“I thank all of you for how far you have come. However, there is still more to be done ahead to enable us dislodge the current government of the APGA in Anambra state.

“We have to remain focused on the goal which is to rescue Anambra state from the leadership of Chukwuma Soludo as governor to enable our people reap full dividends of democracy,” he said.

According to him, the team has to be at its best in the coming days, weeks and months to enable it achieve the task.

Responding, Mr Ifeanyi Ibezi, Director-General of the council assured Chukwuma that the campaign would take a new leap from January.

Ibezi, who expressed confidence in the journey, thanked the aspirant for his purposeful leadership and also thanked council members for their commitment.

Chukwuma is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Benue State University, Makurdi, as well as the President of the Nigeria-Burundi Business Council.

Delta community laments murder of its leader, demand justice

The People of Issele-Azagba in Aniocha North LGA of Delta on Wednesday bemoaned the gruesome murder of their son, a businessman and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir Paul Ofor, by unknown assailants.

The community while addressing  a press conference at Issele-Azagba, said  late Ofor, was murdered on Tuesday, Dec.10, 2024, in his business office at Issele-Azagba, Benin-Asaba Expressway junction.

They called for justice, adding that he was an ex-officio Member and National Adviser of the Issele-Azagba Development Union (IADU) and a prominent member of APC.

They expressed dismay at the seeming lack of action and had called on the state government and the security agencies to address the matter and bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

The briefing was attended by officers of the IADU, traditional chiefs including Chief John Abugo and Chief Austin Ojei, the oldest man (Diokpa) of the community,  Diokpa Patrick Abugo, son of late Ofor; Mr Robert Kanayo Ofor, and the community youth leader, Mr Kingsley Nnasiana.

Addressing the conference, the National President of the IADU, Elder Patrick Isichei, represented by his vice, Mr Obi Osiagwu, said the community expressed shock at the killing of elder Ofor.

According to Isichei, it is most unusual because the deceased elder, had no record of violence or criminality.

“The late Ofor, until his murder on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, was also an ex-officio member and National Adviser of the Issele-Azagba Development Union as well as a prominent member to of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Isichei said that it had taken much effort to restraint the people, especially the youths of the community from taking to the streets to express their dismay and anger over the murder of one of the brightest lights of Issele-Azagba.

He said the entire community has become a shadow of its boisterous self because there was mourning and fear, with the Christmas celebration in the town practically ruined following the incident.

“The community, since the unprecedented incident, has been thrown into mourning and fear.

“As it is now, nobody feels safe. The usual pomp and pageantry that envelope in the community during Christmas and New Year festivities is not there because of the shock created by the incident.

“The Issele-Azagba Development Union (IADU) on behalf of Issele-Azagba people and residents, is compelled to make this clarion call through the Press to the authorities.

“We call on the Delta Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security (DSS), and other security agencies to up the ante in digging into the cause of the gruesome murder and getting the perpetrators of the dastardly act arrested and punished.

“Three weeks since the occurrence of the incident, nothing visible appears to have been done.

“Residents and visitors to Issele-Azagba are highly worried with the social and economic activities in the town badly hampered,” he said.

He also called on the local Government Council chairman, her councillors, elected representatives in state and national to come to their aid, adding that nobody has visited the community since the incident.

  • Tinubu’s economic policies will yield positive results in 2025 – APC chieftain

Tinubu’s economic policies will yield positive results in 2025 – APC chieftain

Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, says President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies are improving Nigeria’s revenue and will start yielding positive results in 2025.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency, stated this in a chat with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo.

He appreciated the endurance of Nigerians amidst the economic hardship, saying that the bold steps in the economic reforms were necessary.

According to him, Nigeria is currently navigating significant economic changes prompted by a series of bold reforms introduced by the president.

Oyintiloye, who commended Nigerians for their patience amidst rise in the cost of living, said that 2025 would be a year of “positive harvest of the Tinubu-led government economic policies.”

He said that the rewards of the removal of petrol subsidy and the floating of the Naira, which caused temporary discomfort for Nigerians in the outgoing year, would put smiles on their faces soon.

Oyintiloye further explained that the recent reduction in the pump prices of petrol was a positive signal that Nigerians would have reasons to celebrate in 2025.

He said that, given the positive indicators, more investors would soon be attracted to the country and many jobs would be created.

“Presently, President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms have triggered a dramatic surge in revenue allocation from federation accounts to various states, which allows them to deliver bigger dividends of development to Nigerians.

“Also, in response to Nigeria’s escalating economic challenges, the president approved a $2.25 billion injection into the economy.

“This funding, sourced from the World Bank, is to enhance revenue and support economic reforms amid the severe cost-of-living crisis.

“As part of a rapid stabilisation and development strategy, this urgent financial assistance is intended to revive the economy quickly.

“The funds are specifically targeted to reduce interest rates in key sectors and provide credit lines to support small, medium-sized and large businesses.

“Nigerians should be rest assured that we will surely see even more of the positive outcomes of the President’s reforms in infrastructure, agriculture, security, healthcare, education, creative and digital economy, among others in 2025,” he said.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), urged Nigerians to continue to support, cooperate and pray for the president to achieve economic prosperity for the country.

He noted that Nigerians had sacrificed a lot in the outgoing year and should be ready to get the rewards in the coming year.

  • 2027: We will defeat you in Kano – APC brags to NNPP

2027: We will defeat you in Kano – APC brags to NNPP

Kano State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will beat Sen.Rabiu Kwankwaso-led New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2027 general election in the state.

The Chairman of the party, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, said this in a statement on Thursday in Kano. He advised Kwankwaso to channel his eneergy towards preparing to the ‘looming defeat’. The party cautioned against any action capable of compromising the outcome of the 2027 elections.

“Our teeming supporters in the APC have no cause to worry’,” he said. The APC assured that it was already waiting in the wing to reclaim the state from NNPP.

Recall that Kwankwaso recently boasted that NNPP would diminish APC influence on Kano State.

He said this in Kano while receiving some former councillors and senior special advisers,  who served during the administration Dr Abdullahi Ganduje. Ganduje is now the national chairman pf APC which rules at the federal level.

”The New Nigeria Peoples Party achieved this remarkable feat despite being a new political platform coupled with the late start of its campaign. Now, it’s our turn to diminish APC’s influence.

”We will work tirelessly to ensure their votes are reduced to less than 15,000 in Kano come  2027,”  Kwankwaso said.

  • APC accuses PDP of politicising stampedes

APC accuses PDP of politicising stampedes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of politicising the recent stampedes in Abuja, Anambra, and Ibadan, where several lives were tragically lost.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, condemned the PDP’s actions, calling them “grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable.”

Morka criticised the opposition party for using the national grief over the stampedes to launch a political attack on the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Morka stated, “At a time of national grief over the stampedes that resulted in the deaths of citizens, the PDP seized the moment to engage in callous political chicanery.

“Rather than genuinely commiserate with the victims and their families, the PDP chose to politicise the tragedy, blaming the incidents on the APC government.”

He emphasised that the tragedies had united Nigerians in mourning and reflection, with a collective focus on how the incidents might have been avoided through better planning and organisation.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families,” Morka added.

Morka also rebuked the PDP for exploiting the stampedes to attack the APC, particularly since the current administration was committed to addressing the challenges inherited from nearly two decades of PDP rule.

He reminded the PDP of the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment stampede, which occurred under its administration, where many job seekers lost their lives.

“The PDP’s allegations only serve to remind us of its sordid record of maladministration and incompetence,” Morka said.

He noted that the party’s suggestion that President Tinubu’s administration was not committed to the welfare of Nigerians was “mischievous and out of touch with reality.”

He pointed to the current administration’s efforts to invest in alternative energy sources and the introduction of the Credit Corps scheme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Morka also highlighted salary reviews for workers and increased allowances for corps members as part of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Morka further highlighted the government’s commitment to provide free and subsidised transportation during the holiday period, approving grants for farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and other humanitarian initiatives.

He asserted that this administration is “the most people-centric in our history.”

He also dismissed the PDP’s claim that the APC’s policies had damaged the economy.

“For years, successive PDP governments operated a phantom economy riddled with distortions and corruption, deceiving Nigerians into believing the economy was thriving.”

Morka commended President Tinubu for suspending his scheduled activities to honour the victims and expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedies.

He wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incidents.

  • Edo lawmaker dumps PDP for APC

Edo lawmaker dumps PDP for APC

A two-term member of Edo House of Assembly, Mr Ojezele Osesua, has dumped Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osesua, representing Esan South-East Constituency, announced his defection on Monday in Benin at a news conference held at the APC state secretariat.

According to reports, the development came less than two months after PDP lost the state to APC in the governorship election.

The lawmaker was received by members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party headed by Jarrett Tenebe.

Osesua said that he decided to dump the opposition party over what he called”irreconcilable crisis.”

He said that his defection was like paying back a debt he owed the ruling when he left the party in 2020, after it had sponsored him to win election in 2019.

“In 2019, I was elected into the assembly on the platform of APC. Due to some challenges, I left the party and joined PDP after one year.

“Though I was elected on the PDP platform in 2023, I have been indebted to APC. It is that debt I have come to pay with my defection,” he said.

On his part, the APC chairman commended the legislator for joining the party.

Tenebe described Osesua as a ‘focused, election-winning’ member, adding: “It’s not APC’s fault that PDP has issues.

“You will recall that during the election campaigns, I said our doors were open and the doors are still open,” he said.

  • Ihedioha’s ex-Chief of Staff, others dump PDP, lace boots with APC

Ihedioha’s ex-Chief of Staff, others dump PDP, lace boots with APC

Ex-Chief of Staff to former governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State, Chris Okewulonu, alongside Ihedioha’s former deputy governorship candidate, Chuma Nnaji, have defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The duo, alongside their supporters, defected on last Friday.

At the APC secretariat in Owerri, the state capital, Okewulonu addressed party members.

He said “You will recall that a few months ago, I tendered my resignations, both as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, and as a member of its Board of Trustees,” Okewulonu stated.

“My decision to leave that party was taken after deep introspection, coupled with lengthy consultations with members of my family, my political colleagues, and my well-wishers.

My decision was equally rooted in my conviction that the qualities which formed the essence of the PDP as a political party, and which ab initio informed my attraction to it, had been continuously eroded, totally degraded, and finally and irretrievably lost,” he said.

Okewulonu explained that his break from political activity allowed him to observe Imo’s political landscape critically.

In the light of the protracted disagreements and schisms in both of the parties which should, and were actually looked upon to constitute the frontline opposition parties in Nigeria, I found myself questioning whether, as a veritable statesman in the polity of Imo State and even Nigeria at large, I could afford to continue paying lip service to being a member of an ineffective, nearly non-existent opposition, whereas I could position myself to actively contribute towards improving the lives of my people,” he added.

He acknowledged Governor Hope Uzodimma’s leadership and his achievements.

“Five years down the road, I have come to the inescapable conviction that the 3R administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma has meant well for the people of Imo State, and has been doing its utmost to effectively and efficiently deliver the dividends of good governance to them.

“The humongous roads and other infrastructural interventions, and the human capacity building initiatives undertaken by the Senator Hope Uzodimma administration are eloquent testimonials to my belief and assertion,” Okewulonu said.

Uzodimma welcomed the defectors, emphasising the significance of their decision.

“APC was seen as a foreign party because of the unfortunate outing in the past. We became victims of mistaken identity. Today, the only party that meant well for Imo citizens is APC,” Uzodimma said.

He described the defection as a testament to APC’s growing influence in the state.

“Genuine members of the political class who want Imo to move forward are joining the winning party. The real state owners are coming back to the party. If we don’t solve the problem of our people, history will not forgive us,” the governor added.

Uzodimma praised Okewulonu and Nnaji’s decision to join APC, likening the development to recruiting elite players in sports.

“Conscience is an open wound that only truth can heal. I thank Okewulonu and Chuma Nnaji for joining our party. We have the Ronaldos and Lionel Messis in our party now,” he remarked.
