Tambuwal, a member of the opposition coalition said he has no interest in seeking political “forgiveness of sins.”

He said: “I do not want my sins to be forgiven so I can’t join the APC. I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be blackmailed. No one can tarnish my records.”

The former Sokoto State governor maintained that the political landscape in Nigeria is sharply divided between “those with Bola Tinubu and his government” and “those with the people of Nigeria,” stressing that he has chosen to stand with the people.

Bye-election: Zamfara APC raises alarm over deployment of outlawed security outfit

The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned against the deployment of outlawed security volunteers popularity known as ‘Yansakai’ to Kaura Namoda Local Government Area ahead of Saturday’s State House of Assembly bye-election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled Saturday to conduct bye-election for Kaura Namoda South State House of Assembly Constituency.

The scheduled bye-election followed the demise of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Aminu Kasuwar-Daji of the APC.

In a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris said the party has concluded all the required arrangements to participate fully in the Saturday’s bye-election in a peaceful manner.

Idris, however, alleged that there were plans for the engagement of illegal security outfits in the election process by some desperate politicians.

“We have noticed the movement of some suspected miscreants in the state for them to participate in the forthcoming bye-election for Kaura Namoda South state assembly constituency.

“Based on the information we gathered, the suspected miscreants are being kitted with uniforms and firearms to participate in the election process, which is totally against the electoral laws,” Idris said.

Idris accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for using state government machineries to win the election.

“This is an alarming situation used by the PDP in their desperate move to forcefully ensure that their candidate is declared winner at the end of the election no matter who gets wounded or killed.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is certainly not happy with the strength of the APC in the areas that the poll will be conducted.

“That is why they resolved to use miscreants to achieve their selfish political interests. We fear for the lives and properties  of our electorate and those of our party members.

“APC is a peace loving party, we want to use this medium to alert the security agencies in the state in good time, for them to take proactive measures,” Idris added.

The party urged the authorities to make sure that only the reputable security agencies especially the Police, DSS and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were involved in the election process.

Reacting to the allegations, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Halliru Andi, described them as baseless and a propaganda by the APC over the fear of participating the election.

Andi said that the PDP in the state had no record of election malpractices or creating violence during elections.

He accused the APC for using unnecessary statements, saying, “this is because of its desperation to win the bye-election.

“Every one knows that in the history of  Zamfara, the PDP chapter has been a peace loving umbrella. The APC Zamfara chapter is used to create unnecessary allegations to divert the attention of the authorities and the public

“Therefore, all the allegations by the APC against the PDP are not true. I am therefore calling on the public and the authorities to disregard such allegations as they are created to create havoc in the state ahead of election day,”  he added.

By-election: Edo Deputy Gov confident of APC victory

The Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr Dennis Idahosa says he is confident of victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday by-election into the Ovia Federal Constituency of the state.

Idahosa said this on Thursday while speaking at the grand finale of the APC campaign for the Ovia Federal Constituency bye-election in Iguobazuwa, Ovia South West Local Government.

According to him, Edo remains the natural home of the APC, despite setbacks under the immediate past administration.

The deputy governor expressed confidence that the party’s candidate, Omosede Igbinedion, would secure not less than 90 per cent of the votes in the poll.

“All that is needed is for us to fully mobilise and encourage our supporters to come out en masse on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibility.

“From our engagements across the constituency in recent days, we are certain of at least 90 per cent of the total votes.

“If not for the misdeeds of the immediate past administration, Edo has always been mainly APC territory,” Idahosa said.

Igbinedion, a former House of Representatives member, pledged to prioritise the constituency’s development.

She said her partnership with the deputy governor would attract more federal projects to the area.

She urged voters to turn out without fear or intimidation and cast their ballots for the APC.

The campaign rally drew several APC heavyweights, including Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku; Deputy Speaker, Osamwonyi Atu; former deputy governors, Dr Pius Odubu and Chief Lucky Imasuen.

Others are former governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; State Secretary, Mr Lawrence Okah; Senator Neda Imasuen; and Chief Billy Osawaru, among others.

Anambra governorship: Ngige disowns picture in APC candidate’s poster

Senator Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra, says he did not consent to the use of his picture in the campaign poster of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Nov. 8 election.

Ngige, who made the clarification in a statement signed by Mr Hyggy Obialo, his Special Assistant on Tuesday in Awka, said that he was on sabbatical from active partisan politics at the moment.

The statement read in part, “our attention has been drawn to the online poster in circulation with the photograph of Sen. Chris Ngige, featuring together with the APC governorship candidate and his deputy in the Nov. 8 governorship election.

“We want to use this medium to inform the general public that neither the consent nor approval of our principal was sought or obtained before the publication was made and disseminated.

“We further wish to inform the general public that Sen. Ngige is taking his well-deserved rest after 25 years of active partisan politics and public service.

“We, therefore, advise the perpetrators to respect the wishes of our principal, who has indicated in many fora that he is out of partisan politics for now,” Obialo stated.

  • Gov Mbah free to join APC – ex-DG VON

Gov Mbah free to join APC – ex-DG VON

Former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu, says Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State is wholeheartedly welcomed to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okechukwu, who is a foundation member of APC, said this in a statement in Enugu on Monday issued on behalf of the APC Foundation Members in Enugu State and South-East.

The statement reacted to a statement against Gov. Mbah’s liberty to join APC attributed to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, at a meeting in Enugu on Sunday.

Okechukwu quoted Nnaji as saying: “Anybody who wants to run for the governorship of Enugu State, let him come to the APC, we will go to contest, we are waiting for them.”

According to him, we the foundation members of APC wish to state unequivocally that His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, and his group are wholeheartedly welcomed to APC Enugu State in accordance with the standard convention of our great party.

“Gov. Mbah and his group should not be scared by anybody,” he said.

Okechukwu said that APC members are at a loss “why Nnaji, who himself is from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is chasing away the exceptionally performing Gov. Mbah”.

“For we, the foundation members, Gov. Mbah should disregard our dear brother Chief Nnaji, because we want to win Lion Building for the first time and join 23 other states to guarantee President Bola Tinubu’s victory in 2027,” he said.

He advised Nnaji to pay more attention to his ministry.

“Otherwise, we will not allow Chief Nnaji who came distant fourth with 14,575 votes in the gubernatorial election and fouled atmosphere for President Tinubu with 4,722 in the 2023 presidential election to rubbish APC again,” Okechukwu said.

  • Fayemi debunks Amaechi’s claim on ADC coalition

Fayemi debunks Amaechi’s claim on ADC coalition

The media office of Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti, has dismissed as false a viral claim attributed to Rotimi Amaechi that both men founded the new ADC coalition.

Amaechi is a former governor of Rivers and former Minister of Transportation under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is contained in a statement by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Malam Ahmad Sajoh, on Sunday in Abuja.

Sajoh said there was no credible evidence, including videos or reputable media reports, to suggest Amaechi made the claim.

He described the report as “possibly fabricated or misquoted,” warning the public against social media-driven misinformation.

Accordjng to him, Fayemi remains a committed leader of the APC in Ekiti State and has publicly endorsed Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for re-election under the party’s ticket.

He added that while Fayemi had continued to engage in cross-party conversations on national development, it did not amount to defection from the APC.

He attributed speculation about Fayemi’s political loyalty to his limited national visibility due to his academic engagement at King’s College London and work at the Amandla Institute.

He, however, said, Fayemi remains active in APC leadership caucus meetings in Ekiti.

“In spite of efforts to verify this statement, which has gained traction on social and digital media, we have found no credible evidence to support it.

” No video of Hon. Amaechi making these claims or reports from reputable media organisations has been located.

“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit.

“It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State,” he said.

According to him, Fayemi had at various public forums in Ekiti and other places consistently affirmed his dedication to the APC, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria.

“Furthermore, Dr Fayemi has publicly endorsed His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, Governor of Ekiti State, for re-election, clearly supporting his candidacy for the APC gubernatorial ticket.

“This underscores his loyalty to the APC.

“We urge the public to treat any news concerning Fayemi with caution, particularly when it originates solely from social media,” he said.

  • ADC fires back at APC’s jibe

ADC fires back at APC’s jibe

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Kebbi, has responded to remarks by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, who described the party as “irrelevant” and “led by immature youths”.

Kana-Zuru made the comments on Saturday during the flag-off of fertilisers and farm inputs distribution by the member, representing Bagudo/Suru Federal Constituency, Bello Ka’oje, in Kaoje town, Bagudu Local Government Area.

In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, the ADC Chairman in the state, Alhaji Bala Sufiyanu, described the APC’s remarks as “desperation” amid alleged growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s performance not only in the state but nationwide.

He observed that the consequences of policies introduced by APC government were glaring and had engulfed all Nigerians.

“Poverty levels have risen under the APC administration in Kebbi and Nigeria as a whole, while farmers face insecurity and poor market access, youth unemployment has increased and basic infrastructure projects have stalled.

“Instead of addressing these issues, the APC has chosen to attack the only party offering a new vision for Kebbi and Nigeria based on integrity, inclusion and competence,” he said.

Responding to the APC chairman’s description of the ADC as youth-led, Sufiyanu said, the party defended the capacity of young and future leaders, hence the decision of the agile youths to rally round the new dawn.

The chairman cited historical precedents in Nigeria, where young promising Nigerians displayed talented leadership then at their youthful age.

“We have youths that led this country in the past, including former Heads of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, who assumed office at 31, Gen. Murtala Mohammed at 37, and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at 41.

“Vision, not age, defines leadership, and its youth-driven structure that reflects energy, innovation and courage, which the state needs more than the current recycled politicians,” he said.

The chairman assured the people of the state that the days of politics without accountability “are numbered, and Kebbi’s future belongs to the youths”.

  • Ovia bye-election, litmus test for APC ahead 2027 – Edo Deputy Gov

Ovia bye-election, litmus test for APC ahead 2027 – Edo Deputy Gov

Edo Deputy Governor, Mr Dennis Idahosa, has described the August 16 Ovia federal constituency bye-election as a litmus test for the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Idahosa stated this on Sunday during the party’s campaign flag-off for the bye-election in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.

He urged party leaders and members to intensify mobilisation and canvassing efforts to ensure victory for the APC, stressing that unity and commitment were key to success.

“On the part of the government, Gov. Monday Okpebholo has embarked on infrastructural transformation of the federal constituency to make life more meaningful for the people,” he said.

Addressing residents of Siluko Ward, Idahosa noted that the community, aside from its large population, was one of the gateways into Edo, making it strategic for development.

He added that the best way to support the governor’s development agenda was to work for the APC’s victory in Saturday’s poll.

“Saturday’s bye-election is to show our preparedness for the 2027 general elections. I want it to be a 100 per cent win for the APC.

“Be reminded that all the good things that have come to Siluko ward were facilitated by the APC government.

“We are not taking this election for granted. When you get home, tell your family and neighbours that APC is one way, vote for Omosede Igbinedion, the only female candidate for the National Assembly from Edo state,” he said.

On her part, Omosede Igbinedion, the party’s candidate for the poll, described the deputy governor as a grassroot politician who had worked for the transformation of the federal constituency.

She appealed to the people not to relent on their support for the deputy governor, as well as the APC for more infrastructural development.

“Even in the cause of these campaigns, he (Idahosa) has brought some more projects to our communities.

“With your votes on Saturday, I am going to complement his efforts in Abuja for the total transformation of our constituency,” she promised.

Similarly, Sen. Neda Imasuen asserted that as a second term member of the House, Igbinedion would be able to identify lapses she made in her first term and correct them and influence projects for the betterment of her constituents.

The council chairman, Nosakhare Edobo, said that the governor had shown commitment to the people to deserve their support.
