  • 5,000 APC members join PDP in Delta

The All Progressives Congress (APC), at the weekend, lost over 5,000 members to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The decampees, led by APC chieftain Comrade Ebenezer Obiazorkwo and the seven APC ward chairmen in Ika North East, were received by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa during a PDP meeting held at Ute Okpu.

“We decided to follow light, truth and the State Governor, who has showed leadership style that has brought peace, unity and development across the state,” he stated.

He and other ward leaders assured Okowa of their total loyalty and promised “never to return to Egypt”.

Speaking, Okowa assured the defectors that they made the best decision.

He said PDP will ensure that everyone is given equal treatment, while assuring Delta people of more dividends of democracy in 2018.

  • Dead appointees: APC, Buhari-led govt lack skills to manage Nigeria

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday described as an unpardonable national embarrassment, the appointment of deceased persons as members of various federal boards by President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan in a statement said the development has further confirmed PDP’s position that the APC administration is completely confused, disorganized and grossly incompetent, adding that Nigerians can now see the level recklessness and shoddiness inherent in the management of the nation under the APC.

The party noted that the situation has further exposed why the nation’s economy has been in shambles under the APC and wondered how a government which cannot tidy up a routine issue of board appointment for over two years can successfully take on complex issues of governance.

The statement read: “Nigerians can now see why the nation’s economy has been in shambles in the last two years. When we say that this government is completely inept, some Nigerians did not know to which level, but now they do.

“This inability to tidy up a simple issue of list of 209 appointees has completely exposed the extent the APC government is bereft of simple organizational skills to manage a country like Nigeria, which is in dire need of development.

“How on earth can a government that cannot compile a common list handle intricate issues of national planning and budgeting; issues of health, education, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure and management of the huge civil service?

“How can they possibly initiate and successfully implement national and international instruments for national development in today’s competetive world?

“This also explains why nothing has been working under the APC government. Furthermore, the mix up in the list also exposes the corruption in the APC government.

“The fact is that the government of our dear country has been in wrong hands in the last two years and the situation will continue to worsen unless the nation is rescued from them in 2019.

“Finally, we urge Nigerians to disregard the lame excuses by the APC government and hold them responsible for the woes that have befallen our country under their inept and undesirable regime.”

  • 2019 poll: Kebbi APC ALGON endorses President Buhari, Gov. Bagudu

The chairmen of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi, have endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential election.

The group also endorsed Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi for a second term in office in the forthcoming general election.

The state chairman of the association, who is also the APC Chairman of Maiyama Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Andarai, made this disclosure to newsmen on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.

Andarai told newsmen that the endorsement became necessary, considering the achievements the party had recorded both in the country and at the state level.

“The leadership of the APC in the state has benefited from the good governance of Gov Atiki Bagudu and President Muhammadu Bahari.

“We, in Kebbi, are farmers, we support any policy that places high premium on agriculture.

“APC leadership from the national and state levels came up with the agriculture revolution policy, from which we have benefited immensely.

“The economic status of farmers in the state has improved and we will ensure the continuation of the APC leadership at the state and the national levels,” he said.

The APC leader said the association reached the resolution after due consultations with their party supporters at the grassroots.

He called on the president and the governor to accept the endorsement, adding,”Kebbi people will not be happy if our endorsement is not accepted”.

  • APC is a government of abysmal failure -PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State on Tuesday described the All Progressives Congress, APC, led Federal Government is an abysmal failure.

The party said Nigerians were waiting to vote out the APC and its troubles in 2019 “because they don’t have the capacity and capabilities to run the affairs of the country.”

Delta State PDP Chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso in a chat with journalists at his country home in Sapele said the APC Government had mismanaged the economy of country, stressing that “Nigerians are still very hungry inspite of the change promised Nigerians.”

Esiso stated that the APC did not wish the country well, stressing that, “In 2015, we bought rice for seven thousand naira, this year it is between eighteen and twenty thousand.

“I don’t know how we got there. People are sleeping in the filling stations. In fact, Nigerians are waiting for 2019 to come so that they can drive away the APC and their trouble. They don’t have anything good for Nigeria.

“APC is an abysmal failure. Any right thinking person who is still thinking of APC is simply not wishing Nigeria well.

  • 2019: APC women writes Buhari, say ‘You have abandoned us’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) women wing, under the auspices the Concerned Women of All Progressives Congress (aka Caucus of Likeminds), have written to President Muhammadu Buhari, complaining of marginalisation of women by the current government, especially those who worked for the party’s success.

In an open letter to the President by conveners of the group, Miriam Yakubu Ikunaiye and Ayoade Simisola, the women said though they laboured for the success of the party at the risk of losing their families, their contributions have not been appreciated by the government and the party.

They are, however, seeking audience with the President ahead of preparations for the 2019 elections to discuss their plight and solutions found as they are tired of waiting endlessly for their contribution to be recognised.

The statement reads: “We have patiently watched with all humility, the sidelining of Women of intellect and character of our great party, APC in the Political Appointments made till date.

These are women who worked out their hearts and spent their resources, sometimes at the detriment of their families; traveled the length and breadth of this country to get fair deal for the Women and Youths; Justice; good Governance, succor to the Down Trodden; development to our people and dear nation which in turn ushered in the Progressives’ Government and our great Party to where we are today.

Your Excellency, we are women of great capacities, intellect and political sagacity, with huge follower ship across the country, still championing various causes to effect the desired change in our own little ways, but unfortunately, like other great Women of our party, APC whose interests we represent, we are still the unsung heroines of our time!

Unfortunately, we were neither appreciated, nor recognised for our bravery and; we can only wonder when we will be able to further bring our skills, experience and passion for change to bear its full cause in this current administration.

To this effect, and as 2019 approaches, we would appreciate it if we are given an audience with Your Excellency to further express our plights as a caucus.”

  • 2019: Buhari has no hands in Kwankwaso, Ganduje feud – Presidency

The presidency on Sunday said President Muhammadu Buhari was not involved in the crisis rocking the Kano chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as well political battle between former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso and his successor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The presidency also cleared the air that President Buhari played no role in the removal of Umar Doguwa as chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State.

Doguwa, believed to be a loyalist of a former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was removed as APC chairman and replaced with Abdullahi Abbas, a loyalist of the current governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Kwankwaso and Ganduje are involved in a political feud for the control of the party in the state. Efforts by the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the crisis have failed.

The feud is also believed to have been responsible for Mr. Abbas’ resignation as chairman on Thursday, after he which he was appointed commissioner by the governor.

The presidency’s statement on the controversy is contained in a statement on Sunday by presidential spokes person, Garba Shehu.

Shehu said the reaction was in response to claims by a group, Concerned Members of the APC in Kano State, believed to be loyal to Kwankwaso.

The Presidency wishes to refute a false accusation that President Muhammadu Buhari was behind the removal of the erstwhile Kano All Progressives Congress, APC chapter chairman Hon Umar Haruna Doguwa,” Mr. Shehu said.

Let me assure all our party members and the general public alike at no time did the President involve himself in the internal conflict of any APC chapter in the country, and would never do so.”

Mr. Shehu said, “President Buhari would not risk his integrity to support one side against the other in the affairs the APC or any other political party anywhere in the country.

Anybody who knows the president’s principles would not believe any allegations linking Buhari to interference in the election or removal of party leaders across the country.”

The spokesperson made reference to the president’s neutral role in the election that brought Bukola Saraki as the senate president contrary to the stance of the party.

In fact, it is an irony that President Buhari, who was accused in the past of not taking control of the National Assembly by imposing in the President of the Senate and Speaker, two critical institutions in the running of our democracy, will now be accused of abandoning those principles to order the removal of the chairman of the Kano APC party chapter.

I am 100 percent convinced that this group, which is being associated with the respected senator representing Kano, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso did not seek his permission or clear their script with him before they dragged the name of the President into this matter. Governor Kwankwaso knows President Buhari too well to reduce him to this level.

This group is hereby advised to stop belittling the person and office of the President by dragging his name into their local party quarrels. It is unfair to attack President Buhari over an issue he knew nothing about,” Mr. Shehu said.

  • Fuel scarcity: Go on your knees, beg God to save Nigeria from APC – Secondus tells Nigerians

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus on Saturday in a special Christmas message advised Nigerians to use the yuletide to beg God to save the country from the ‘misrule’ of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) especially as the current fuel scarcity bites harder than expected.

Secondus noted that the hardship Nigerians are going through in the last 30 months of the APC administration shows clearly that it was a mistake voting them in.

He said, “The fact that Nigerians cannot see fuel to travel home to see their loved ones during this Christmas even after fuel prize jumped from N87 per liter under PDP administration to N145 under APC shows clearly that they have nothing to offer.

As Christmas is the marking of the coming of the messiah by christendom, this is the best time to seek God’s intervention to send a leader who would save this country as APC administration has failed the people woefully.”

Secondus said that never in the history of Nigeria has there been this level of disaffection among the people with the government clearly unable to offer solution.

He said, “This Yuletide time is therefore ripe for Nigerians to bury their political, ethnic and religious differences and go on their knees to ask God to save this country from the hands of the APC misrule and clear lack of direction.

This is the third Christmas Nigerians are marking under the APC government and the indignation in their faces across board shows it all that the people are sad and disappointed.”

Notwithstanding the alleged frustrations, the PDP chairman admonished all Nigerians to use the Christmas period to reflect deeply on the future of democracy in this country and try and use this season to show love to one another and build on those things that unite than divide the country.

  • PDP, APC have failed, we’ll provide viable alternative in 2019 – Labour Party

The Labour Party said on Saturday it would provide Nigerians with a viable alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.

The party said both the APC and PDP have failed Nigerians in their efforts to deliver good governance to the people.

The National Chairman of the party, Dr. Mike Omotosho, stated these during a chat with journalists in Abuja.

He said: “People are already complaining. That is why we said we need to come up as the party of the masses, the party of the people and be the voice of the voiceless and give hope to them. It is the only country we have.

Let’s look inwards and see how we can build this country called Nigeria. Whether we like it or not it starts with leadership. The power truly belongs to the people. But the people are not aware that the power belongs to them.

For the very first time in the history of this country, the Labour Party is poised to provide innovative leadership that will be transparent, that will be accountable, that will be purposeful and most importantly, that will be principled, and responsible to the pains and complains of the people.

Whether we like it or not, it’s all about the people. That’s what democracy is all about. Let’s focus for once on the people.”

  • 1,500 PDP members defect to APC in Lagos

No fewer than 1500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State on Friday defected to the All Progressives Congress(APC).

Newsmen report that the defectors were received by Mr Olusola Sokunle, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly and the APC Chairman in the LGA, Alhaji Olamide Kasali.

Sokunle, who was elected into the Assembly on the platform of PDP, had in February, alongside six other lawmakers, defected to the ruling party on the floor of the House.

The lawmakers had cited the performance of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode and the leadership style of the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, as reasons for their defection.

The new defectors were led by a PDP chieftain in the council, Mr Fola Mosaku, and four councillorship candidates of the party in the July 22 council polls in the state.

Sokunle, receiving them, said: “APC is a party to belong to, where our political aspirations can be achieved. So, endeavour to frequently attend political meetings in your wards. ” Let us thank Governor Ambode for giving Oshodi a facelift. More projects are still on the way. ”

The door is still open for other interested PDP members to join us.” He said that the APC-led government had performed beyond expectations, with various development projects executed in different parts of the state. Also welcoming the defectors, Kasali assured them that APC would ensure their interests were protected.

The party chairman said that the party would soon begin its membership registration in the wards. He urged all new and old members to go to their various wards for registration immediately the exercise commences.
