  • Suspension: APC nullifies ward decision, says Banire remains Legal Adviser

The APC National Headquarters has overruled its Mushin Local Government Area chapter over the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, Mr. Muiz Banire.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Ilasamaja Ward C of the APC in Mushin had sent Banire packing from the party for what it described as anti-party activities. The Mushin council APC followed suit and asked for his removal as National Legal Adviser

The Acting Chairman of the APC in Mushin LGA, Mr. Sola Osobajo, said, “After receiving the minutes of the Ward C meeting, and having carefully considered the decision of Ward C leadership, we decided to adopt the resolution for further necessary action at the state and national levels. The party leadership in Mushin further recommended to the state chapter the expulsion of Banire from the party.”

However, Banire in a statement he signed on Thursday, however, questioned the powers of his traducers.

“If these crooked elements were members of the party, they would know that by the constitution of the APC, it is the National Executive Committee that can remove a national officer of the party responsible for the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

“I urge the members of the public to ignore these undesirable and mischievous elements together with their antics,” he said.

Banire’s position was upheld by the APC Friday in a statement by its spokesman, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi.

The statement reads: “The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to the purported suspension of the Party’s National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN) by the Party’s executive committee in Mushin Local government area of Lagos State.

“We wish to state categorically that the purported suspension is a nullity as the local chapter of the Party does not have such powers to suspend a national officer. According to the Party’s constitution, such powers reside with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party.

“The Party advises that whatever issues there might be, our party structure and constitution provide ample avenues for redress and dispute resolution. If the local chapter is unable to achieve a resolution, the NWC can and will wade in the matter to achieve amicable settlement.”

  • We are delighted with Ag. President Osinbajo’s visit to Rivers State – Rivers APC

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, is profoundly delighted with the visit of Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN Thursday and his successful commissioning of the new ultra-modern world-class fertilizer plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited in Port Harcourt.

With production capacity of 4,000 metric tons of nitrogenous fertilizer per day and production capacity of 1.5 million metric tons of Urea fertilizer the plant built with 1.5 billion dollars is considered the world’s largest single-train Urea plant. It is supported by a port terminal at the nearby Onne Port Complex, and a dedicated Gas Pipeline of 83.5km for gas supply.

The implication and significance of this huge investment cannot be lost on the economy and people of Rivers State as it will perhaps provide the largest single employment opportunity to Rivers people and other Nigerians, especially in the downstream sector of agriculture where the plant’s products are important input.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Osinbajo on Thursday stormed Rivers State to commission some projects including Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited.

The APC applauds the Acting President for personally commissioning the plant as the Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Limited remains perhaps the nation’s most viable privatisation scheme undertaken by the federal government.

However, we deplore the tantrum being thrown at the APC by the governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike alleging that leaders of our party put pressure on the Acting President to decline commissioning his market and motor park projects. The governor should understand that no President in Nigeria goes about commissioning local government projects such as markets and garages. The Acting President, pressed for time, managed to commission the only two road projects that appeared to be of some significance – the Chokocho-Igbo-Etche- Rumuokurushi Road and Chokocho-Umuechem-Ozuzu Road.

Ordinarily, we expect Gov. Wike to show appreciation that the Acting President squeezed in the commissioning of those two projects into his very tight schedule and not accuse the Ag. President and APC of playing politics. If anyone played politics over the visit, it was Gov. Nyesom Wike. We urge him to take the advice of the Acting President that public office holders should pay more attention to governance than playing politics.

The governor should have cleared the projects he wanted commissioned with the office of the Acting President prior to commencing his media propaganda instead he put the cart before the horse. Instead of taking the blame for mismanaging the process and deliberately lying to the people, he resorted to blaming the APC. Gov Wike should own up that his attempt to continue fooling the people crashed in his face this time around.

Instead of taking the blame for mismanaging the process and deliberately lying to the people, he resorted to blaming the APC. Gov Wike should own up that his attempt to continue fooling the people crashed in his face this time around.

In the beginning, Gov. Nyesom Wike and PDP told Rivers people that the Acting President was visiting Rivers State to commission his projects. They never mentioned the fertilizer plant at Eleme. On the other hand, APC told Rivers people that the major assignment the Acting President was coming to perform in Rivers State was the commissioning of the ultra-modern world-class fertilizer plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited. With the visit having come and gone, we believe that Rivers people now know who tells them the truth.

Only Buhari can decide when he’ll return – Oyegun

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Constitution review committee submitted its report to the party’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, on Thursday evening at the APC National Secretariat. After the meeting, journalists who covered the event interviewed the APC National Chairman on Sunday’s visit alongside other party leaders to President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

Below are excerpts of the interview:

Your Excellency, you led an APC delegation to visit Mr. President. What is his state of health?

Oyegun: I can confirm that Mr. President is convalescing very strongly. Right now, all he is doing is having as much rest as he can to build up his energy, to build up his stamina. But the worst is certainly over. Mr. President is going to come back and he is going to face the responsibilities for which the people of this country have elected him. I am glad to say he is recovering beautifully.

On allegations made by the Governor of Ekiti State on Mr. President’s state of health.

Believe me, I hate to comment on anything the Governor of Ekiti State says because when people have taken leave of common decency, our basic cultural upbringing; when people cease to have respect for elders and cease to have respect for the fact that an elder statesman who is also President of this nation is going through a health challenge and seek to make fun of it, and seek to say things that are so totally unbecoming, it is really not worth commenting on. But I am glad that as at yesterday (Wednesday) even Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors went there and thank God nice sober people, they were very excited at the pace of recovery of Mr. President. I hope that finally, even for the most hardened of political adversaries that common sense and common decency will finally prevail.

When are we expecting Mr. President sir?

Only Mr. President can speak to that. But I am glad he is having a lot of rest. And I wish it was possible to say take a longer time getting truly ready but he is beautifully making progress with his recovery. We discussed issues with him, but basically it was a courtesy call. People who are genuinely concerned, who want to see him, who want to chat with him. We had quite a good chat, quite a good meal. As you could see he is still his old jovial self. He had so many questions about events back home, just wanting of course to get our own perspective of things which we did. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and I came away very happy.

  • JUST IN: APC suspends National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire

The Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Mushin Local Government has suspended the National Legal Adviser, Dr Muiz Banire from the party citing anti-party activities.

The suspension follows the recommendation his ward (Ward C, Ilasamaja, Mushin).

According to the Acting Secretary of the Ward, Taofeek Ajani-Balogun, the decision to suspend Banire from the party was reached during the ward meeting held to review the last Local Government elections in the Ward.

“After a critical assessment of individual activities and the performance of the party during the last elections, members of the party in Ward C, Ilasamaja, Mushin unanimously voted for the immediate suspension of Banire from participating in party activities in the Ward and his removal from office as National Legal Adviser.

Speaking further, Ajani- Balogun said the meeting resolved to suspend the Ward and LGA Chairmen and Executives due to the poor results recorded in the last elections and has forwarded the ward’s decision to the LGA for further deliberations and recommendations to the State Chapter.

Also, the acting Party LGA Chairman (Mushin), Mr Sola Osobajo confirmed that during the last LGA meeting, the party received and reviewed minutes of meeting from Ward C and considered the decisions contained therein.

He said, “after receiving the minutes of the Ward C meeting, concerned and committed members of our great party, APC in Mushin Local Government deliberated on the resolutions of the ward meeting and having carefully considered the decision of Ward C EXCO, we decided to adopt the resolution for further necessary action at the State and National level. The Party EXCO in Mushin Local Government further recommended to the State Chapter the expulsion of Mr Muiz Banire from the party,” he said.

It would be recalled that leaders and members of All Progressives Congress APC, last Tuesday held a peaceful protest to demand the expulsion of Banire from the party based on alleged anti-party activities and in accordance with Article 21 of the constitution of the party.

Some of the grounds for the request are alleged anti-party activities such as causing a Legal Representative to disavow the Party in a Law suit before the elections and working towards the electoral failure of the Party.

Other anti-party activities which Banire was accused of before and during the last local Government elections include; Inciting the public against the interest of the Party; falsely accusing the party of imposition in public thereby bringing the Party into disrepute; Disobeying and causing others to disobey lawful directives of the Party Causing disaffection within the party.

The party also accused Banire of causing his supporters to disrupt the peaceful process of efficient organisation of the Party, particularly in respect of the campaigns of candidates of the Party and causing fear and apprehension among Party loyalists during the elections.

  • Nigeria is now terribly divided by APC’s bad governance – Wike

RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Tuesday that the bad governance of the All Progressives Congress had left Nigeria terribly divided.

Wike, who stated that the country needed people who would promote peace through quality leadership, added that Nigeria was currently bedevilled by myriad of problems.

The governor spoke during the commencement of the reconstruction/rehabilitation of Abuloma, Fimie, Ozuboko and Amadi-Ama community roads in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Wike said that Nigerians were deceived into voting for the APC, pointing out that in 2019, no Nigerian would be deceived by the empty promises of the party.

“Nigeria is divided because of the APC leadership style. Wherever you go today in this country, there is one problem or the other. Is that how Nigerians want it? Certainly not! We need people who will promote peace through quality leadership.

“The change they said they are bringing is fake change. No person resident in Rivers State and sees what we are suffering from the APC Federal Government will ever support the APC,” he added.

The governor, who assured the people of the state that his administration would continue to deliver projects that would improve their living conditions, maintained that the reconstruction cum rehabilitation of Abuloma, Fimie, Ozuboko and Amadi-Ama community roads would be completed in six months.

Wike said the poor nature of the community roads in the heart of Port Harcourt had brought to the fore the failure of the immediate past administration.

The governor urged the contractor handling the road reconstruction projects to carry the people of the host communities along, through sub-contracts and employment opportunities.

On the flooding of many parts of the state, the governor said his administration would take steps to stop recurrence.

He appealed to residents to desist from building houses on waterways, noting that resolving the flood challenge would require everyone to work in unison.

The representative of the CCECC, Mr. Robinson Ndiokho, assured the governor that the company would construct the roads in line with the approved specifications.

But reacting to the governor’s claim, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone, said Wike was still basking in the euphoria of the recent Supreme Court judgement that came his way.

He explained that at the right time, very few of the likes of Wike and other PDP leaders would have the presence of mind to speak to Nigerians and at the same time answer the mountain of corruption cases in various courts.

Finebone said, “The APC will list over 60 PDP leaders with their long list of alleged plundering of the nation’s resources that happened over the years, especially during the Jonathan presidency. Nigerians and the world will see these people for who they are.

“The present bravado you see in Wike and other PDP leaders will pale into insignificance as 2019 approaches. Their sins will seal their lips before Nigerians. They will be free, but unable to campaign. The wrong they have done will go after them.”

  • Lagos LG Poll: APC wins 369 councillorship seats, PDP, Accord take 7

Lagos LG Poll: APC wins 369 councillorship seats, PDP, Accord take 7

Details of final results of Saturday’s local government election in Lagos released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Monday indicated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won four councillorship seats in the polls.

A statement issued by the commission ‘s Director of Publicity, Mr Oladapo Olatunde, indicated that Accord Party also won three councillorship seats in the election.

According to the statement, the PDP won the four councillorship seats in Agege Local Government Area (LGA) Ward C, Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA)Ward A, Ikorodu LGA Ward G, and Oriade LCDA Ward A.

Accord Party won in Agege LGA Ward E, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Ward D and Shomolu/Kosofe Ward E.

Aside the seven councillorship seats, the All Progressives Congress swept all the chairmanship seats and the remaining 369 councillorship seats in the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

The analysis of the results showed that nine out of the 12 parties that participated in the election did not record any win.

The LASIEC chairman, retired Justice Ayotunde Phillips, according to the statement, congratulated all winners and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

She urged them to do so by making impact with their leadership in their respective areas.

Phillips thanked the political parties and their agents for the peaceful way they conducted themselves during the election.

The commission’s Chairman also commended security agents for helping to maintain law and order during the election.

She thanked the media and civil society organisations that partnered the commission to conduct the polls.

Ayotunde said the election was largely successfully conducted, but admitted initial delays in the deployment of materials to polling units.

She attributed the delays to the downpour on the day of the polls, which affected easy movement of materials to polling units.

The chairman thanked all Lagosians for the support given to the commission to ensure successful conduct. (NAN)

Ambode, on Saturday said local government elections would engender participatory governance and revive belief in the electoral process at the third tier of government.

Ambode noted that the election in Lagos State came six years after the last one was conducted.

“I am happy that this election is coming at my own time. The whole idea is for us to evolve a process where the citizens come out and believe in a process that is credible. When the people see credible election at the local government level, they will be excited to participate because they know that it is credible, peaceful and without violence. That is what we have been preaching. Lagos is too cosmopolitan for us not to have a credible election.

“We need to enhance democracy in the country and we can only do it by what we are doing today.”

He said adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure that voters cast their votes in a peaceful atmosphere and forestall any breakdown of law and order.

“So far, so good, from the reports I have received from all the other parts of Lagos State, we are pleased with what is going on. I believe strongly that it will be peaceful throughout,” Ambode added.

  • Lagos LG polls: APC chairmanship aspirant crushed to death on election eve

A PSP truck, on Friday, crushed a Chairmanship aspirant of the Ikotun/Igando Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, to death.

The deceased, Shakiru Balogun, aka SAB, was a former Chairman, National Union of Local Government Employees of the LCDA and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He couldn’t clinch the party’s ticket at the primaries for local government elections in the state scheduled for Saturday.

Balogun was going to the council secretariat around 12pm on Friday, election eve, when the driver of the PSP truck lost control of the truck and rammed it into Balogun’s Toyota 4runner at Okofili Bus Stop, LASU-Isheri Road.

52-year-old Balogun died on the spot while the PSP driver fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses said the door of the sports utility vehicle was cut with a saw before emergency officials could extricate his body.

He is survived by two wives and four children and has been buried according to Islamic rite.
