  • APC youth group lambasts Akande over comment on Buhari’s health

APC youth group lambasts Akande over comment on Buhari’s health

The All Progressive Congress, APC Youth Progressive Frontier has slammed the former interim chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande over his recent ‘crude’ statement on the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group said people like Akande should be taken for psychiatric test because a sane human being would never joke with health of a sitting president.

Bisi Akande had in a statement on Monday claimed that some people were “feasting” on President Buhari’s poor health.

The APC chieftain admitted that Buhari’s illness was gradually taking a toll on the country, adding that history may repeat itself.

“These are two great red flag dangers that have the potential of plunging the country into unprecedented chaos and of destabilising the gains of democracy since 1999.

“The greatest danger, however, is for political interests at the corridor of power attempting to feast on the health of Mr. President in a dangerous manner that may aggravate the problems between the executive and the national assembly without realising if, in the end, it could drag the entire country into avoidable doom.

“My greatest fear, however, is that the country should not be allowed to slide into anarchy and disorder of a “monumental proportion,” Akande was quoted in the statement as saying.

Reacting however, the APC youth group in a statement jointly signed by its National President, Gbolaham Badmus and Secretary General, Shodeinde Lukman, lampooned the former party chairman for trying to play politics with the president’s health.

The group called on Nigerians to rally round Buhari in prayers as he continues to work and fight against corruption, which has eaten deep into the nation’s economy.

The statement said, “As patriotic Nigerians that are thoroughly engrossed in the task of contributing our quota to the development of the nation, we are pained by the way and manner some key officials of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have chosen to make derogatory statement about the affairs of the nation especially the issues surrounding the well-being of our dear president, Muhammadu Buhari.

“In one of the latest instances, the founding National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande shamelessly told those who cared to listen to his infamous sermon that the health condition of the president have dovetailed into untold hardship on the citizenry and called for emergency measures to be taken in order to avert a national calamity. We view this as an irresponsible drift.

“With due respect, we wish to state categorically that such careless utterances by a person who is supposed to have known and appreciated the immense energy, vigour, dedication and a whole-hearted commitment President Buhari have injected into the task of rejuvenating our national life, is grossly disappointing. And has actually gone a long way to show how petty our grand parents have become. In order climes, this would have been a time for sober reflection and not a time for some people to take alibi in and unleash their hidden venom and deep rooted hatred against the president,” the group noted.

The APC youth noted that it was glaring that people like Akande is omly trying to tear the party apart with his personal interest and ulterior motives.

The statement added, “Equally, our belief is that, from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The main purpose of such utterances in our estimation is that, a section of the party is now torn between the pursuit of personal, yet infamous agenda which has the ultimate evil aim of creating an anomalous cabal that is tilted towards a particular section of the country rather that helping in rebuilding a virile nation that all of us will be proud to be its citizens. This is a dangerous dimension which we all patriotic Nigerians must gallantly stand up to defend democracy against hawks that are lurking around with dubious intentions.

“Ordinarily, we would have assumed that Chief Akande was making an intervention with a genuine intention but thorough checks by our network across the length and breadth of the nation have unequivocally indicated that, his action was a well orchestrated plan that has been calculated with the major aim of causing disaffection among Nigerians that have reposed absolute confidence in the administration of President Buhari which has embarked on a mission with a vision to redeem the country from the shackles of corruption, insecurity and economic redundancy.

“We tend to wonder what has prompted Chief Akande to embark on this holy-than-thou voyage most especially from the standpoint that President Buhari himself is completely honest to Nigerians and in fact genuinely told the country upon his return form his medical vacation in the United Kingdom that he has never as sick as that particular point in time.”

The group added that it was glad that the president had since resumed office after taking out some days to rest and attend to his health, which it noted has improved.

“We are happy and have chosen to give glory to the almighty God that barely a day after Chief Akande made that unguarded statement, our President pulled out of his well deserved rest to resume work in his office at the Aso rock presidential villa thereby perforating the assertion as earlier clandestinely made by our party elder.

“Those who met with Mr. President on Tuesday, 2nd May, 2017, including the Attorney -General of the federation, Abubakar Malami as well as the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mainkanti Baru pointed out in loud and clear terms that he was in high spirit and on top of his job.

“This no doubt will come as a rude shock to Chief Akande who has chosen to become an unholy tool in the hands of some few self seeking individuals who have used him to massage their ego.

“We are tempted therefore to mention that in sane places, elders like Chief Akande are the conscience of the society who use their accumulated wealth of experience, expertise, contacts and goodwill to impact positively on the lives of the generality of the people as well as add impetus to the giant strides of the administration in order to bring about national cohesion but not for destructive purposes in the shabby manner portrayed by Chief Akande who vainly tried to cast aspersions on our collective existence.
“We greatly regret to re-echo the belief that, if Chief Akande has any misgiving against any organ of the government he should find better ways to ventilate on such grievances rather than dragging the president and the presidency into a needless battle that will pitch the executive against the legislature and even the judiciary whom he also frontally targeted in his barbaric outing.

“In extreme cases, we are also recommending a psychiatric test for persons like Chief Akande and his barefaced litany of co-travellers. Nigeria belongs to all of us and not a particular section or elements who think by talking down on President Buhari, they will achieve cheap political goals not minding that such will not be of any consequence on the rest of us,” the statement added.

In a related development, the Arewa Consultative Forum, on Tuesday, also frowned at the unhealthy statement credited to Akande over President Buhari’s health.

  • Alleged threat to life: Lasun lacks respect for the dead – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has condemned a statement issued on behalf of Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, on the threat to his life following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Deputy Speaker claimed that the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke last Sunday was a mystery and that he does not want to die in similar circumstance.

The Deputy Speaker alleged that he has been threatened severally for expressing his interest to run for the governorship race of Osun State.

Howevr, in a swift reaction, the APC Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, in a statement on Sunday said “this is a wolf cry and political gerry-mandering which cannot amount to a threat to life. There is no fragment of truth in all Lasun claimed, and it appears to have been the product of a very sick minded person”.

We hereby state unequivocally that the Deputy Speaker and his band of delusional propagandists are mere opportunists clustering to the death of our late party leader and illustrious son of Ede, Senator Isiaka Adeleke to make smokescreen names and score undue political relevance for themselves.

To all intents and purposes, the deputy speaker has once again demonstrated to the teeming populace that he is mischievous and a mere opportunist who lacks the deserving respect for the dead and cannot stand by the etiquette and traditional norms of our rich cultural heritage as Yoruba speaking people.

The executive of the Osun State APC, in order not to distract the business of developmental governance and fulfilment of our electioneering promises, issued an advisory notice a couple of months ago to all intending governorship aspirants for the 2018 elections to wait until there are clear guidelines and directives by INEC, as such, the claim by Lasun Yusuf that himself and the late Adeleke were singled out is a blatant lie and a template to deceit.

Alas, without searching further, Hon. Yusuf has without any iota of doubt has revealed himself to us that he is the chief sponsor and promoter of the irritating blackmail against the government of the state of Osun that the late senator of osun west senatorial district was poisoned which was a resultant effect of his death. This in its entirety is illogical and irresponsible.

We are poised to believe this outburst must be as a result of the outcast behavioural tendencies of Lasun Yusuf in OSUN APC after distancing himself from the activities of the party. We equally stand in the position of the Adeleke family, having affirmed that they are still waiting for the comprehensive report of the autopsy carried out on the first civilian governor of osun state.

In the spirit of this sorrowful loss, unfortunate death, and more remarkably as a sign of respect to the soul of the deceased, we shall henceforth decline to join issues with self-seeking politician, who is presently arrogating undue popularity to himself.”

APC said that it was unfortunate that someone who rode on the popularity and acceptability of the party to get to National Assembly could fabricate tissues of lies against the government and party leadership.

We only wish to advise the lawmaker to simply retrace his steps if truly he is still a member of the Osun APC.

We are touched with the huge vacuum and irreplaceable role Senator Adeleke’s death has left in the progressive camp of Osun APC, we once again sympathize with the Governor and government of the State of Osun, the Adeleke family, the entire APC family, the people of Ede and Osun state in general”.

“I don’t believe one particular person solely assisted me to this position, everybody assisted me and someday, the story of how I became chairman of APC will be told.

“You will then see that everybody did assist me to become National Chairman. This means that I am there for everybody. I don’t belong to any camp in the APC. I belong to all members of APC high and below,” Oyegun explained.

  • Akpabio’s defection to APC will shake PDP – Ex-minister, Nduese Essien declares

A former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Nduese Essien on Thursday said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State will suffer bitter set backs if the Senate Minority Leader and former governor of the State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, defects to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Essien further explained that it would be impossible for APC or any other political party to displace the PDP in the state irrespective of defection of those considered political godfathers.

The ex-Minister said this in an interview wit The Sun.

In his words: “Presently, I do not see the possibility of another party taking over governance of Akwa Ibom in 2019.

“You know it takes some years to build structure from the ward level to the local government level and to the state level.

“The other parties now coming to Akwa Ibom are just beginning the process of building and before they can attain it, I think we should be thinking beyond 2019.”

He stated further: “The defection of National Assembly members cannot be a determinant of the future of the party.

“But if the current minority leader in the National Assembly ever defects, it will be a strong capitulation for the PDP because he already had a base at the state level.

“If he defects, he will be going with that strong base. But knowing him for who he is, he is not likely to defect.”

  • No ideological difference between PDP, APC – Ayade

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has said that peace within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigeria in general remained a prerequisite for the growth and development of the country.

Ayade said this on Wednesday when the National Chairman of PDP, Sen. Ali Modu-Sheriff paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Calabar.

According to Ayade, there is no ideological difference between the PDP and the All Progressive Congress (APC) or belonging into one faction of the party or the other.

“What Nigerians need now is peace and unity. There is indeed no ideological difference, whether you are in PDP, APC or you belong to one faction of the party or the other.

“If truly you put people above your person, you must allow peace to reign by recognising the challenges of the society.

“The challenges of the society have created in itself a structure that allows us to resolve conflicts and move ahead as a country,’’ he said.

The governor thanked the National Chairman for embarking on the peace mission across the country, adding that it was important to unite all factions into one umbrella.

Earlier, Modu-Sheriff said that he was in the state to visit the governor with a view of uniting all factions and moving the party ahead.

According to him, he has paid similar visit to Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states with the sole purpose of uniting all factions of the party.

“As a great party, we need to work in unity and peace so that we can win the 2019 general elections.’’

He commended Ayade for his infrastructure development in the state, adding that he was the party’s best performing governor.

“If I am asked who the best performing governor of the party is, I will simply say that it is Gov. Ayade.

“I am very proud that Ayade is not only a digital governor, but also the number one governor in terms of performance.

“With what you are doing now, 2019 will be an easy ride for you. There will be no challenge and no vacancy in Cross River.’’

He also lauded the governor for appointing a Northerner, Mr Musa Maigoro, as his Special Adviser on Non-Indigene Affairs.

  • Osinbajo fumes, says PDP on death row, APC gasping for breath

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said opposition party, People Democratic Party, PDP, is on death row while his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is gasping for breath.

Osinbajo said this at the National Conference on Political Party Supremacy and the Dynamics of Parliamentary Autonomy put together by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, in Abuja.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Osinbajo was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Political matters, Babafemi Ojudu.

He tasked the institute to go into research and see how Nigeria can begin to build very strong political parties.

In his words: “Today, we cannot talk of strong parties in Nigeria. The PDP is on death row, the APC is gasping for breath, therefore, it is very important that in building our party we must also look out for leaders that can work assiduously to mobilise people, leaders with conviction, leaders who are independent, leaders who are courageous, leaders who have capacity, and leaders who are disciplinarian.

“If we have these leaders and we appoint them to lead our parties both at national level and at the local level, we can be talking of political parties that will deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.”

Osinbajo added, “Concern should be directed at strengthening the political parties as things stand today our political parties are very weak.”

He also disagreed with former Senate President, Ken Nnamani who stated that people have right under the constitution to move from one political party to the other.

Osinbajo said, “If we keep jumping from one party to the other there will be no way we are going to strengthen the existing ones.

“People should be able to stay in their political party, work at strengthening them and ensure that it even becomes a family culture whereby my son, my grand son, great-grand son will know themselves.”

No plans to quit APC, Gov Bindow assures

Governor Muhammadu Bindow of Adamawa State has disassociated himself and his administration from reported threat to quit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that recent media reports quoted Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba-Jimeta, the Chief of Staff to the governor as saying that the state-led APC government may be forced to leave APC.

He had said this measure might be taken if the party’s national secretariat did not address the problem of its (Adamawa APC) marginalization by the national body on issues regarding the party in the state.

The Governor ,who spoke through the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Malam Ahmad Sajoh, told newsmen Saturday in Yola that the media, which ascribed the statement of the Chief of Staff to the governor, were not fair to the governor, who had spoken at that occasion and declared his full support to the party.

“What Abba-Jimeta said was his personal opinion and the governor did not waste time in countering him at the event.

“The way the story was presented by the media is not fair to the governor.

“Whatever a governor’s aide said cannot supersede what the governor said at an event; we must subscribe to what the governor said as it override whatever his aides say.

“We are loyal to the party; we are loyal to the leadership of the party and we are loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari,” he stressed
