I never said El-Rufai is still in APC – Ex-NIMASA DG

Dr Bashir Jamoh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former Director- General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has debunked media reports quoting him as saying that former governor Nasir El-Rufai is still a stakeholder in the party.

Recall some media platforms had recently reported that  Jamoh  made the  declaration at a press conference in Kaduna, amid swirling speculations about the former state governor’s political allegiance.

Recall that El-Rufai had recently resigned his membership of the ruling party, pitching tent with  opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former APC chieftain initially aligned with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ,before joining  the National Coalition of Opposition Party, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform ahead of 2027 .

Jamoh, in a statement on Saturday, described the reports as false and misleading, claiming  that he did make the reported  comments  anywhere.

“My attention has been drawn to a misleading publication circulated by some media outfits on the 7th and 8th of August, 2025, falsely claiming that I stated former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is still a member of the APC.

“I wish to categorically state that I made no such statement to any media organisation. The report is entirely fabricated and a gross misrepresentation of facts.

“I urge the public to disregard the said publication in its entirety and treat it as fake news. I remain committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, and will continue to stand for truth, accountability, and responsible public discourse,” Jamoh said.

2027: PDP vows to sanction members endorsing APC

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to sanction its members endorsing the ruling party for re-election in 2027.

The party, in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday in Abuja, warned those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution.

Ologunagba said that the NWC of the PDP had reviewed the anti-party activities of certain members of the party particularly those endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

He said that of serious concern was the persistent public media outbursts against PDP by some prominent members.

Ologunagba noted that such members’ actions and utterances, including their public declaration to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election, violated the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

He added that the behaviour also constituted a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of the party.

“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that “NO MEMBER of the Party SHALL align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government.

“Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP leading to division, disaffection and heavy haemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.

    “In the light of the foregoing and the instance of protecting and preserving the existence of our party and its electoral fortune;

“The NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,’’ he said.

Ologunagba urged all PDP members to remain loyal, focused and continue to work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention scheduled to hold on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 in Ibadan.

  • El-Rufai still with APC, we consult him – Jamoh

El-Rufai still with APC, we consult him – Jamoh

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has dismissed rumours of defection surrounding former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, affirming that he remains a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jamoh, a prominent APC chieftain in Kaduna State, made this known while addressing newsmen in Kaduna after a grassroots tour of the eight local government areas in Kaduna North Senatorial District.

He said the visit was aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Uba Sani, ahead of the forthcoming bye-elections and the 2027 General Elections.

Jamoh said, “As far as I am concerned, Malam Nasir El-Rufai is still with the APC.

“We are yet to reach the point where we will say farewell to him. Forget about the politics  when we need his advice, we consult him, and he always contributes without hesitation.”

According to him, El-Rufai remains a valuable asset to the party, noting his contributions since the party’s formative years.

“You cannot disown your child of eight years. He governed Kaduna for eight years under the APC and played a pivotal role in the merger that formed the party,” he said.

On El-Rufai’s rumoured association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Jamoh urged for patience.

“You don’t name a child until there is a successful delivery. Let’s wait and see how the ADC process unfolds who emerges leader, who becomes the presidential candidate, and what the structure will look like,” he said.

The APC chieftain reiterated his loyalty to the APC and declared that the party remained the strongest political force in the country.

“Have you ever seen a field marshal frightened by a non-commissioned officer? APC remains the field marshal of Nigerian politics,” Jamoh said.

He said defections were a natural part of democratic systems but maintained that the APC remained formidable in Kaduna State and across the nation.

Jamoh also reaffirmed his commitment to the political alliance between  Tinubu and  Sani.

“That alliance is like a marriage  even when your wife is no longer young, you don’t send her packing. Tinubu is our political partner, and we must nurture that partnership,” he said.

On his political ambition, Jamoh confirmed that he had received calls from his constituents urging him to contest for the Kaduna North senatorial seat in 2027.

“Yes, I have received calls to run, and I have formally written to the stakeholders to seek their advice and prayers,” he stated.

Jamoh urged APC members to remain united and focused as preparations for the next general election begin in earnest.

“This is not the time for distractions. Let’s consolidate our gains and ensure continuity in governance,” he added

  • APC aspirants for by-election reject imposition, issue 48-hour ultimatum

APC aspirants for by-election reject imposition, issue 48-hour ultimatum

Some aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have rejected the choice of Adewale Olatunji Murphy, as the party’s candidate for the Aug. 16, Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election.

The aspirants under the aegis of United Ibadan North Federal Constituency Aspirants Forum, told newsmen on Monday in Ibadan, that Murphy was allegedly imposed on them.

NAN reports that the six aspirants present at the conference are Olusegun Olaleye, Saheed Aderounmu, Adekunle Oladeji, Oluyinka Omikunle, Idris Lapade and Khalil Mustapha Repete.

They warned the party’s national leadership to reverse the imposition within 48 hours or face consequences, including internal rebellion and voter apathy during the Aug. 16 by-election.

The aspirants condemned the selection of Murphy without a primary election, threatening fallout if the party’s national leadership fails to urgently address the unfolding crisis.

The aggríeved aspirants described the alleged imposition of Murphy as a breach of democratic norms and party guidelines.

Aderounmu, one of the aspirant, accused the National Working Committee of the party of sidelining due process and opting for a backdoor endorsement of an unpopular candidate.

They accused the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, of complicity in the alleged imposition, urging him to publicly distance himself to protect his credibility and party unity.

The group said that they have unanimously adopted Khali Mustapha Repete as their consensus candidate, insisting he emerged through transparent consultation with stakeholders and grassroots members in the constituency.

The group cited President Bola Tinubu’s emergence through democratic primaries, they urged the APC leadership to emulate his example and preserve the party’s integrity in Oyo State.

The aspirants reaffirmed their loyalty to APC but vowed to resist any undemocratic decision, insisting that party victory lies in justice, openness, and respect for the people’s choice.

  • “Don’t dump your VP, it will cause anarchy”- North East APC youths plead with TInubu

“Don’t dump your VP, it will cause anarchy”- North East APC youths plead with TInubu

The North-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Parliament has warned against any attempt to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as running mate in the 2027 general elections, saying such a move would plunge the party into chaos.

The group, which coordinates over 200 affiliate youth organisations across the six North-East states, issued the warning in a statement released after a strategic meeting held in Bauchi on Friday.

Reading the communiqué, the chairman of the group, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Kobi, said there are growing signs of internal manoeuverings by what he called “mischievous elements” within the party, plotting to remove Shettima from the ticket.

His words: “The rising tension within our party is a brewing storm that could shake the very foundation of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

“A house built on unity and shared ambition now stands at the edge of division, with cracks visible for all to see.”

He warned that ignoring these cracks could lead to the kind of internal collapse that affected the PDP in 2015.

Kobi alleged that the push to remove Shettima was being disguised as party restructuring, but described it as a calculated move that would be firmly resisted by loyal APC members across the North-East.

“Any attempt to reconfigure the Tinubu/Shettima ticket in 2027 will only bring resentment and chaos that could linger beyond the elections,” he stated.

The youth group also expressed concern about the spread of what it described as covert alliances aimed at undermining Shettima’s role in the current administration, despite his leading role in managing the economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We must not allow excessive ambition to override reason. The Vice President has been instrumental in confronting the tough economic challenges inherited by this administration,” Kobi said.

He described President Bola Tinubu as a reform-minded leader who is making difficult but necessary decisions for Nigeria’s long-term stability.

“Undermining the current leadership structure would be a gross injustice and a setback to national progress,” he added.

The group urged the APC leadership to remain united behind the current ticket, warning that political miscalculations could endanger the party’s chances in 2027.

  • I ask for forgiveness in supporting APC – Dino Melaye

I ask for forgiveness in supporting APC – Dino Melaye

Former Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, has seek for forgiveness for previously backing the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking on Politics Today on Friday, Melaye acknowledged his past alignment with the ruling party but said he had since turned a new leaf.

“Once I was blind, now I can see. I regret in totality.

“Just like you confess your sins daily in the Lord’s prayer, I ask for forgiveness.

“Anyone who has moved with the devil, anyone who has aligned with an unholy tendency, should regret it,” the former lawmaker said.

Melaye slammed the APC administration for worsening socio-economic conditions, saying hunger and poverty have reached dangerous levels across Nigeria.

“You don’t need a prophet to tell you what is happening in this country. It is visible even to the blind and audible to the deaf.

“The hunger in the land is shattered. People are dying of malnutrition in rural communities.

“Take a trip today to your village and just announce that you want to share two bags of rice.

“If you are not careful, there will be dead casualties from the struggle to get something,” he said.

Turning to 2027 politics, Melaye said the ADC was focused on building a stable party platform that would produce a credible presidential candidate to defeat Tinubu.

“Especially those of us in the ADC, we need to create a comfortable, stable platform.

“I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

  • 2027: PDP’s boasts empty, mere illusion – APC

2027: PDP’s boasts empty, mere illusion – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the boasts by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unseat it in the 2027 general elections as empty and mere illusion.

The Lagos State APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, made this remark in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

Oladejo was reacting to a recent claim by PDP that only the former ruling party had the “structure and strength” to unseat APC in the 2027 general elections.

He said that such ‘political daydreaming’ should ordinarily be dismissed as the routine rhetoric of an opposition party desperate to stay relevant.

Oladejo, however, added for the benefit of the public and in defence of facts over fiction, APC had found it necessary to set the record straight.

“PDP’s claim of possessing the structure and strength to defeat APC is both laughable and detached from the current political reality in Nigeria.

“What structure is the PDP referring to — the same disjointed, crisis-ridden and fragmented formation that has failed to present a united front since 2015?

“Or the same “strength” that has led to serial losses at the polls, mass defections of key figures and internal implosions across states?

“It is clear that the PDP is yet to recover from the political rejection it suffered over the past decade — a rejection rooted in its legacy of corruption, impunity and squandered national opportunities.

“Nigerians have not forgotten the 16 years of PDP misrule that left our nation economically vulnerable, infrastructurally backward and institutionally weakened,” he said.

The APC spokesperson said that in contrast, APC remained the most formidable political movement in Nigeria today, grounded in progressive ideals, national unity and result-driven leadership.

“From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Kano, APC’s policies and people-centric governance continue to win the trust and support of Nigerians at all levels,” he said.

Oladejo described the 2023 elections as a reaffirmation of APC’s national spread and deep grassroots connection.

“The same Nigerians who gave us their mandate then are witnesses to the significant strides being made by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration — particularly in economic reform, infrastructural renewal, digital transformation and national security.

“While PDP continues to operate in the echo chambers of political nostalgia, APC is busy rebuilding Nigeria and expanding its reach.

“If PDP believes its press statements and internal wishful thinking can substitute for credible leadership, national cohesion and visionary planning, then it clearly hasn’t learned anything from its past electoral humiliations,” he added.

According to him, PDP should focus on resolving its internal crises rather than issuing ‘hollow statements’ about 2027.

“Nigeria deserves a credible opposition, not a party still chasing the shadow of its lost glory.

“Come 2027, APC will again present to Nigerians a record of achievements, a unity of purpose and a future of promise — not the empty boasts and recycled faces of yesterday’s failures,” Oladejo said.

  • 2027: Gang-up against Tinubu will amount to nothing – APC Chieftain

2027: Gang-up against Tinubu will amount to nothing – APC Chieftain

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Dotun Babayemi, says any gang-up against the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 will amount to nothing.

Babayemi, one of the APC aspirants for the Aug. 8 governorship election in Osun, said this during his ward-to-ward consultation in Ayedire Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

According to him, Tinubu’s second term is a done deal and his eight years as the president cannot be compromised.

“The president is breaking grounds with positive impacts and the results will tangibly manifest in the course of his second term in office.

“Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 will stabilise the country and the economy for the good of the populace.

“APC members in Osun are already working assiduously to ensure that the party emerges victorious in the 2026 governorship election in the state and the re-election of the president in 2027.

“Tinubu’s re-election should be paramount to Nigerians, especially the party members.

“Since Tinubu’s assumption of office, he has rolled out reforms and programs under the Renewed Hope Agenda which are already bearing positive fruits,” he said.

The chieftain said that the re-election of the president would put the country on a firm footing.

Babayemi, however, urged party members to mobilise for the voters’ registration to be carried out in due course by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

  • LP remains the only credible alternative to APC – Nenadi Usman

LP remains the only credible alternative to APC – Nenadi Usman

The Interim National Chairperson of the Labour Party, Sen. Nenadi Usman, says the party remains the only credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Usman made the assertion while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area.

She implored Nigerians to keep faith with the party as it was the most people-centered among the nation’s leading political parties.

“We are committed to restoring national dignity, hope, and delivering people-centered governance,” she stated.

The acting chair lamented  that the suffering of the masses “had reached an alarming rate.”

On the defection of some LP members to the APC, Usman maintained that the party remained unshaken and would continue to enjoy the support of the masses.

She explained that some of those who left the party never truly shared its vision, adding that their exit had brought clarity and strengthened internal cohesion.

“We made some mistakes in candidates’ selection, but those lessons have been learned.

“Going forward, we will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria,” she stated.

Usman appealed to the aggrieved members to “sheathe their swords and close ranks” as the LP prepares to commence nationwide membership revalidation exercise, congresses, and a national convention.

  • New APC National Chairman charged to return aggrieved members from ADC

New APC National Chairman charged to return aggrieved members from ADC

A former presidential aspirant, Chief Stanley Osifo, has charged the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to do his best to unite and strengthen the party.

Osifo, a chieftain of the party, who gave the charge in an interview with NAN on Saturday in Lagos, congratulated Yilwatda on his emergence as national chairman.

This is while urging him to bring back all aggrieved APC members, who had left the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Usifo said Yilwatda’s strength and leadership capacity  would be put to test during the  the upcoming by-elections and off-cycle governorship elections  in some states.

Osifo said: “Right now, before him (Yilwatda), are the coming elections, the by-elections taking place in different constituencies and senatorial districts.

“We also have members of APC who have decided to join the coalition that later adopted  the African Democratic Congress because they are  aggrieved.

“Yilwatda’s acumen is going to be put  to the test with these, to see how he can coordinate and interact with the different levels of the party to ensure victory for all the party candidates in the coming by-elections in August.

“I think he should do his best to reach out to aggrieved APC members hibernating in ADC because the larger we are, the better for us. So, let us  reach out to those coalition members and bring them to back to ou fold.”

He also urged the new chairman to take the party back to the  people at grassroots to get more support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I strongly believe that he (Yilwatda) is going to put all in his arsenal  to work to  strengthen APC nationally, working with the states, the local governments, the wards, and then at the unit level.

“I equally strongly believe that he will also work earnestly with diaspora members of APC. I believe he knows what it takes. His position now is like a national leader of our party.

“As the chairman, he is the one leading the party, giving direction to the party, giving the party statements. His actions, to a large extent, will determine the party’s outlook , ” Osifo said.

Urging Yilwatda to do his best to resolve all the leadership issues, Osifo said that the party must follow democratic principles in all decisions.

“And it is very simple. The majority, not the few, should have the way. So in democratic governance, there is regular elections, there is freedom to contest for any position, there is also no disenfranchisement of members in any elections.

“Everyone should be given equal opportunity to aspire and contest without intimidation. This is the only tenet that will make the APC stronger,” he said.

According to him, party leaders must provide a level playing ground for aspirants for any political offices, without the influence of any godfather.

Osifo, who expressed confidence in the capacity of Yilwatda, urged APC hierarchy to work with the new chairman to take the party to greater heights.
