  • I have been suspended over 20 times, yet I remain a member of the party – Senator Sani

I have been suspended over 20 times, yet I remain a member of the party – Senator Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has once again affirmed that no one can suspend him from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Kaduna state chapter of the APC had axed the controversial senator following his fallout with the state governor, Nasir el-Rufai.

Speaking with state house correspondents in Abuja on Friday, Sani described his suspension as a ruse, stating that he remains a member of the party.

“I cannot be suspended. I am unsuspendable (sic), if there is any word like that. I remain a member of my party, If you simply feel uncomfortable with my words all you can do is to simply put some cotton on your ears so that it can block it,” he said.

“And if you are not comfortable with seeing me physically, you simply need to use sunglasses but in every sense you can’t hide behind attempts to silence Shehu Sani. In fact, I have been so suspended up to about 20 times that my car doesn’t need any suspenders right now, each time they call it’s about to suspend.”

Speaking of his strained relationship with el-Rufai, he said: “Well it’s a normal thing. You can be Siamese twins and then you may engage in combat, you can also be twins and then engage yourselves in disagreement and you can also be from the same house or family or same room but still disagree with each other.”

“I think it’s a normal thing in a democracy to disagree.”

“Well, it is foolish for anybody to start talking about 2019 when we are just less than two years into this tenure. What is most important to each and every one of us is to deliver on the mandate for which we have been elected whether you are a governor, senator, a member of house of representative, in whatever capacity,” he said.

“But in the course of it, it is also normal that missiles will strike from here and there, it is normal in a democracy.”

Push, slap anyone that does same to you on election day – Oyegun tells APC supporters

Nation Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Thursday called on members of the party to retaliate to whatever action directed at them from opposing political parties during the Rivers re-run elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 10.

Addressing supporters at the party’s political rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Oyegun said “If they slap you, slap them back, If they push you, push them back.”

Oyegun, who stated that the party was on a recovery mission in the state said, “I am very pleased with the turnout here today. It shows you are truly ready. As you can see, we came in force. The whole federal might is here. You have the governors of this nation here today.

We are sending one message, and that message is clear. It is that we respect you the people of Rivers state. We respect the courage of our members in this state. We want to let you know that we have heard your cry; we have seen your anguish; enough is enough. This is the beginning of a rescue mission.

I was here during the time of our beautiful governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He drove me round Port Harcourt; we strolled in the city, but can you do so today? We now have a blood-thirsty regime in Rivers state.

I am glad with what I am hearing here today; very glad. If they push you, push them back. If they slap you, slap them back.

We cannot allow them. The APC came on a rescue mission, unfortunately they are fighting back, the same way they have always done. Are you going to allow them? It is within your powers to return the members of the house of assembly.

Return the members of house of representatives and senators because we need them. When you do that, it will be the beginning of the end.

Go and cast your vote, and if they snatch the result sheet, give me the answer.”

    Rivers Re-run: I can’t work against APC – Dogara

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has described as unfair, statement credited to former senator, Magnus Abe, that he is working to provide a clear political advantage for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming National Assembly rerun elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 10 in Rivers State.

In a press release signed my the media assistant to the honourable speaker, Turaki Adamu Hassan, Dogara said as a loyal party man, he will never work against the interest of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The statement reads in part: “While the honourable speaker does not wish to join issues with the distinguished senator, it is important to set the records straight .

The speaker’s only role in the allegation made by the distinguished senator is that of a presiding officer who brings down the gavel in affirmation of a decision taken by majority members of the House of Representatives.

Dogara neither introduced the motion to conduct a public hearing on Rivers State election, neither did he support any party during the debate.

The Speaker wishes to make it clear that he is always fair when presiding over issues raised by members of various parties in the House of Representatives, and this does not equate to discriminating against his own party, the All Progressives Congress”.

Nigerians going through tough time, APC admits

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has admitted that the economy is tough and that Nigerians are going through hard times.

Speaking in Abuja, on Wednesday, Oyegun said the party and government was working towards resolving the problems facing Nigerians.

According to Oyegun, “The economy is tough, as a result, people are going through hard times and it is certainly not acceptable. The people who are looking up to us, want to find us concentrated, determined, focused on programmes that will ameliorate not just the economy but the condition of living of the ordinary Nigerian.

“It is hoped that the public will begin to see a new party, of course focused governance of the people.

On the issues between the National Assembly and the Executive, Oyegun said, “As far as the party is concerned, we commended the senate and the entire National Assembly for the way they have worked so far with the Executive.

“We are determined and we concluded that we must work closely together to address some of the glitches that still exist, the relationship between the National Assembly and the executive.

“It means that an end is in sight. We have started the process, but there are issues to be resolved and there is no question at all that we are a family and when things have gone wrong, we accept that things have gone wrong and we are determined to right those wrongs.”

Rivers Re-Run: Amaechi accuses Wike, PDP of killings in Rivers

…assures electorates of Buhari’s commitment to security of lives and properties before, during and after the elections

Former governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has accused his successor, Governor Nyesom Wike and his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of being behind the extra judicial killings particularly during the 2015 general elections and the March 19 rerun elections in the state.

Ameachi’s accusation is coming three days to the re-run elections scheduled to hold on December 10.

Amaechi revealed this in an interaction with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International airport on arrival in the State for the Saturday re-run legislative elections in the State.

He said the cache of arms and ammunition Wike recovered from cultists during the first phase of the Rivers State Amnesty Programme were evidences to buttress his allegations.

In his words:”Wike has not denied he did not kill people, he sponsored those who carried arms in the 2015 general elections, even, during the campaigns, our people were beaten, manhandled and others threatened, leaving many dead, but, we will not continue to allow these things to happen like that. Members of the PDP were also responsible for killing APC members in Omoku”.

Responding to Governor Wike’s alleged connivance with Police and INEC to rig the elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Amaechi said: “If Governor Wike and the PDP have justifiable evidence, let them present it to the general public and stop blackmailing me or INEC and Police. The allegations are immaterial, null and void. Why is Wike and PDP making too much noise and fruitless allegations?”

Speaking further on the chances of the APC in the legislative rerun, Ameachi said: “This is so because, as Governor then, l overhauled the Health and Education sectors by promoting Free Health care system and Free Education, over 10,000 teachers were employed, including the building of critical infrastructures, roads and youth empowerment, making Rivers people and other Nigerians to experience change. So l am very sure l had more popularity than any PDP stakeholder including Governors across the country.”

Amaechi also averred the All Progressives Congress,(APC) has been campaigning for candidates in the re-run election in remote parts of the state, adding that, his arrival from Abuja on Tuesday night to Port Harcourt marks the third visit to join stakeholders of the party for campaigns in the state.

He urged the people of the state to disabuse their minds against comments by the PDP and Governor Wike, which he said, were calculated to rubbish him in the eyes of right thinking persons, in order to score cheap popularity and further whip up public sentiments to heat up the polity.

“On Wednesday, l will also join the APC stakeholders to carry out further campaigns, while on Thursday, there will be hold national campaign for the Party in the state to indicate our readiness and preparedness for the re-run elections” Amaechi said.

He called on Rivers people and other Nigerians resident in the state, including supporters and stalwarts of the APC to turn out en- mass to vote on Saturday urging them to always protect their votes at election venues.

“Before now, l used to tell my Party members to vote and protect their votes, but there has been complains of indecent attacks from the PDP , so, l have asked the APC party members to protect their votes and their lives as well, because the PDP cannot be bigger than everybody everywhere,” Amaechi explained.

Amaechi equally expressed total displeasure over what he called, “irresponsible comments” by Wike, stating that, at several occasions, Wike has abused the office and privileges of the governor, especially, his sudden interception of Security operatives who were detailed by Law to arrest corrupt judges in some states across the country.

In his words: “During my tenure as Governor, l never abused the office of the Governor, because, it is sacred and should be respected in all ramifications,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister in a broadcast which is was aired on Radio stations across Rivers State Wednesday called on Rivers people to take advantage of the December 10 rerun elections and vote the right persons to represent them and put an end to the terror they have been made to go through by the Wike and PDP administration in the State so far.

Full texts of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi’s state wide broadcast:

“This is another opportunity for us to exercise our right to vote for candidates of our choices. You would recall that the last time the elections were held, members of the APC were brazenly, crudely and violently prevented from exercising their inalienable rights to elect those they wanted. Those same characters and forces that stole our votes by violently denying us the right to vote the last time are at it again. In the months and weeks leading to this Saturday’s election, they have employed the use of violence and intimidation and harassment all aimed at preventing us from coming out to vote, they have turned our hitherto peaceful state into a haven of brazen criminality culminating in killings and maiming of innocent citizens.

“However, it is gratifying to know that the Commander-in- Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the security of lives and property in the state before, during and after the election. Mr. President has graciously provided adequate security through the length and breadth of the state. I therefore, enjoin you all to come out en masse and exercise your civic right on Saturday. To this end, the reign of terror in some of our local government areas leading to senseless killings will not be tolerated as the security agencies have been directed to ensure the safety of all, before, during and after the elections. I therefore, implore you all to come out and exercise your rights to vote now that you have a chance to vote and your vote will count, choose wisely, vote APC,” Amaechi said.

Again, he assured the people not to submit to any form of intimidation or threats while exercising their civic right, adding “let me assure you all that your security and safety is guaranteed.”

Buhari is biggest beneficiary of PDP in Nigeria – Lamido

One of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is the greatest beneficiary of the crisis in the PDP.

Lamido argued that there was no way Buhari could have been given an opportunity to contest for presidency at the outset of the present dispensation in 1998/99, saying that the President was able to come to power in 2015 because of the efforts of the PDP in reconciling and stabilizing the country.

Lamido, who spoke in his Bamaina hometown at the weekend, stated that all the leaders, including himself, are to be blamed for the party’s woes, but maintained that the PDP is beyond any personality, and that it belongs to Nigerians so cannot be appropriated by anybody.

The former governor who admitted that his party, the PDP was presently undergoing several challenges said the party successfully stabilized the country before the incumbent (President Buhari) could contest.

In his words: “It is not about one’s own personality or one’s ego, but it is about this party called PDP which carries the Nigerian hope which was able to get Nigerians stabilised in spite of the vilification and propaganda and prepared the ground fully for Buhari to come in and become a president because if there is any great beneficiary of PDP in Nigeria, it is Buhari.”

Speaking further, he said: “between 1998 and 1999, there was no way Buhari could have gotten the opportunity to contest, he can’t contest I don’t mean to insult him, but it is simply a historical fact that all those that are now calling the shots, is all, thanks to PDP because the country has been stabilised and reconciled.

So, anybody in the Villa or Government Houses or wherever they are, who are now enjoying this APC thing are simply because PDP was able to restore the country and made it possible for them,” Lamido said.

Speaking on the massive defection of members from the PDP to the ruling APC, Lamido said: “But today, no matter how big you are as a thief, if you go to APC, they would accept you, look at those going to APC in the last two to three weeks, these are people who are literally on trial by the EFCC.

Maybe because the PDP couldn’t stand up for them, that’s why they are going there or maybe APC has no qualms about fraud by accepting them with the intention of cleaning them,” he added.

BREAKING: Former presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro decamps to APC

A former presidential spokesman, Olorogun Ima Niboro, has decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Niboro said he decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because unproductive opposition must come to an end in Delta State.

Niboro, a former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was ushered into the APC on Monday at his residence in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Niboro said his joining the APC was meant to align Delta with the government at the national level and to galvanise development.

In his words: “My membership of the APC is true. It is not a sudden switch. I have had 18 months to study the situation as it concerned my ward, local government, community and even my state.

“I have to conclude that there is time for everything. This is the time for us in Delta to link up with the Federal Government in order to bring development to our land.

‘`We cannot at this critical point of our history be left out of Federal Government’s development agenda.

`There is no synergy between Delta and the Federal Government and we cannot achieve that synergy when we are working at cross-purposes.

“We must work together to achieve that synergy,’’ Niboro said.

Niboro also decried the level of infrastructure decay in Delta saying it was time for the state to move higher from where it is presently.

He was formally received by APC stalwarts in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta, where he hailed from.
