Adeleke won’t defect to APC – Osun PDP caucus

The Osun caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Gov. Ademola Adeleke will contest the Aug. 8, 2026 governorship election on the platform of the party.

The PDP leadership emphasised that the governor would not defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the PDP caucus meeting held at the Government House on Monday in Osogbo.

The communique was made available to journalists by the spokesperson to the governor, Malam Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday.

The PDP leaders stated that majority of the APC members in Osun were opposed to the idea of Adeleke defecting to the APC, “which did not originate from the governor in the first instance.”

The communique also alleged that some APC leaders, “based on entrenched interests”, have demonstrated “hostility and resentment” towards the governor.

The caucus said that the majority of PDP members in the state were not happy with the idea of the governor joining APC, but only reluctantly agreed to follow him to wherever he goes to show their love, support, and loyalty to his leadership.

The PDP leaders said that the party recognised the fact that Osun is the ancestral home of President Bola Tinubu, “which makes him the son of the State.”

The PDP caucus, however, adopted and endorsed the President for re-election in the 2027 general elections.

The leaders of the party also endorsed Adeleke’s re-election bid on the platform of the PDP, directing all members in the state to remain in the party.

According to the caucus, the state government and the PDP, as a political party, remain very popular and acceptable above all other political parties in the state.

The PDP leaders urged the governor to forge ahead with governance and implementation of his administration’s five-point agenda.

The caucus also directed members to disseminate the resolution to all structures of the party in the state.

The communique was signed by Adeleke, his deputy, Kola Adewumi, a former governor in the state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, among others.

2027: APC remains formidable – Spokesman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has declared that the party will remain formidable in the 2027 general elections, despite what it described as opposition efforts to discredit its progressive reforms.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Lagos State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, dismissed a recent press release by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) titled “No Patriotic Nigerian Will Vote for APC in 2027”, calling it “politically charged and deliberately misleading.”

“While such rhetoric may make headlines, it lacks both substance and objectivity,” Oladejo stated. “The APC categorically rejects this attempt to smear our party and misrepresent the millions of patriotic Nigerians who support us.”

He noted that as the 2027 elections draw closer, Nigerians would evaluate all political parties based on track records, sincerity of purpose, and leadership capacity—not propaganda or emotional outbursts. “On all these counts, the APC will stand tall,” he said.

Oladejo emphasized that patriotism transcends party lines and is defined by a steadfast commitment to national growth, peace, unity, and democratic values. He added that the APC has consistently upheld these ideals through initiatives in infrastructure, the digital economy, social investment, agricultural revitalization, and other reforms that even its harshest critics cannot overlook.

“To assert that no patriotic Nigerian would vote for APC in 2027 is not only presumptuous but deeply insulting to the intelligence of the electorate,” he said.

According to Oladejo, Nigerians are discerning and understand that governance is a complex and evolving process that demands vision, patience, and adaptability. “The APC continues to provide leadership that is responsive to the challenges facing our country, and reforms are underway to further stabilise the economy, curb insecurity, and create inclusive growth,” he explained.

While reaffirming the party’s openness to debate and constructive criticism, Oladejo warned against any attempt to monopolise patriotism or suggest that political loyalty is the sole indicator of national devotion.

“The APC welcomes robust engagement,” he concluded. “What we reject is the notion that political allegiance defines patriotism.”

Osun 2026: APC will never lose again – Omoworare

Sen. Babajide Omoworare, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, says the party will never lose the governorship election in the state again.

Omoworare said this on Monday in Osogbo while declaring his intention to contest the Aug. 8, 2026 Osun governorship election.

The chieftain said that the loss of the 2022 governorship election by APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a mistake that would never repeat itself again.

Omoworare, a former Senior Special Assistant to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, said APC did not lose the election because PDP was stronger,

“APC lost the last election due to issues within the party, but those have been resolved. We are on the ground.

“We will run for the next election, and we will win. The party will never lose any election in the state again. I want to be the governor of the state because there is need for an Osun renaissance.

“If I am elected, I will revolutionise the agriculture sector and embark on infrastructural development. Osun has the highest food inflation in the region because rural roads are bad.

“Farmers cannot move their produce, but I will fix that if elected. We need a new era of governance in the state”, he said.

The chieftain also expressed optimism about winning the election, adding that he had never lost an election before.

“I have contested five times. Even when they tried to rig me out, I went to court and won. By God’s grace, I am a five-star general in politics.

“I was a former majority leader in the Lagos State House of Assembly and was a senator representing Osun East,” he said.

Omoworare reaffirmed his loyalty to APC and added that he would willingly step down if asked by party elders.

Also, the APC Chairman in the state, Tajudeen Lawal, described Omoworare as an astute politician and core progressive.

Lawal, however, said the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants. He appealed to all the party’s aspirants to be peaceful and work in unity.

PDP vows to defeat APC in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it remains the only party capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated this during a news conference held on Monday in Abuja.

He said the PDP was not only undergoing reforms but also remained the only party with strong grassroots support across Nigeria.

“We are organic and nationally rooted. There is no community in Nigeria without a PDP presence,” Ologunagba said.

He added that during its time in government, the PDP positively impacted lives, reaching even the remotest parts of the country.

According to him, Nigerians are eager for the PDP’s return, as evident in the rising public interest in party affairs.

“Privately, people call me, urging us to unite and rescue the country,” he added.

Ologunagba further described the APC as a “bad market” that would not secure another term in 2027.

He said no patriotic Nigerian would support the APC, regardless of the presidential candidate it presents.

On recent defections, Ologunagba stated that the PDP remains united and strong, with core members still firmly in place.

He emphasised that a political party’s true strength lies with the people, not only its leaders.

“While leaders are important, followers define a party. Our grassroots supporters are not leaving,” he said.

Speaking on the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, he said it is scheduled for July 23 to 25.

He confirmed that invitation letters had been sent to all expected NEC members ahead of the gathering.

Ologunagba said the meeting would receive updates from the zoning and convention committees on their preparations.

He added that it would also review and ratify congresses already concluded across the country.

  • Tension mounts in Oyo APC over selection of delegates for primary

Tension mounts in Oyo APC over selection of delegates for primary

Tension is mounting within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State ahead of the party’s primary to fill the vacant Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

NAN reports that party’s primary election to elect a candidate to vie for the position is scheduled for Sunday.

However, on Saturday, the social media was awash with allegations of imposition of a candidate to fly the party’s flag in the Aug. 16 election.

Some party stakeholders and groups have raised concerns over alleged imposition of a particular aspirant reportedly backed by a top government official.

The aspirant, who reportedly rejoined the party recently from the Accord party, was believed by some within the party to be enjoying undue advantage in the selection process.

Sources within the party said that the allegation followed APC National Secretariat’s directive mandating an indirect primary.

This, the source said, overruled an earlier decision by party leaders in the state and aspirants to adopt a direct primary model for the selection process.

The stakeholders said that the reversal of the earlier direct primary model has left several party members dissatisfied and expressing a sense of exclusion.

Sources within the party have also alleged that members of the Delegate Congress Committee and the Appeals Committee, who are camped at a hotel in Ibadan, had produced a delegates list ahead of the congress to select delegates.

They said that the Delegates Congress Committees during a closed-door meeting at the APC state secretariat on Saturday, reportedly informed stakeholders of the cancellation of the earlier scheduled delegate congress, opting instead to adopt a pre-approved list.

A senior party figure, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the development as an abuse of internal democratic processes.

He appealed to the APC national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, saying the integrity of the primary process must be protected.

  • Another headache for PDP as Edo only HoR Member resigns eyeing APC

Another headache for PDP as Edo only HoR Member resigns eyeing APC

It is another major headache for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as the House of Representatives from Edo State resigns eyeing the ruling APC.

Hon. Marcus Onobun, who represents the Esan West/Esan Central/Igueben Federal Constituency, expressed dismay over the persistent crises within the PDP, stating that the party’s internal wrangling has made it difficult to pursue collective goals and deliver effective representation to his constituents.

In his resignation letter, Onobun he cited a lack of cohesion, poor leadership direction, and unending factional struggles as key reasons for his exit.

The lawmaker noted that despite his efforts to foster unity and progress within the party, the worsening situation has made it impossible to continue under the PDP platform.

Political observers view Onobun’s resignation as a major blow to the PDP in Edo State, particularly as the 2024 off-cycle gubernatorial election looms. His departure adds to the growing list of defections the party has suffered in recent months.

Reliable sources within political circles suggest that Onobun is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that could significantly realign the political structure in the state.

  • Atiku’s PDP exit reflect ambition without principle – APC

Atiku’s PDP exit reflect ambition without principle – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday.

APC’s Lagos spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a Wednesday statement, said Atiku’s possible defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) changes nothing for the 2027 elections.

Abubakar, the PDP’s 2019 and 2023 presidential candidate, had shown growing frustration with the party’s post-election disarray and inability to provide effective opposition.

Though not formally a member of ADC, Atiku’s coalition recently adopted the party as its 2027 electoral platform.

His resignation signals readiness to solidify ties with ADC ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Reacting, Oladejo described Atiku’s exit from PDP as a desperate, yet unsurprising, move reflecting a fractured opposition.

He said the development confirms the PDP’s internal collapse and Atiku’s continued lack of political consistency.

“Atiku’s actions reflect ambition without principle, not driven by ideology but by relentless personal pursuit,” Oladejo stated.

He stressed that the defection will not boost ADC’s chances or dent APC’s dominance in Lagos or nationwide.

Oladejo added: “Whether PDP, ADC or another, Nigerians remain politically aware and will not be swayed.

“The APC stands as the only party delivering real governance, economic gains, and solid infrastructure.”

He said Atiku’s move allows voters to evaluate the integrity and consistency of those aspiring to lead.

Oladejo reaffirmed APC’s commitment to national unity, sustainable progress, and purposeful leadership.

He encouraged APC loyalists in Lagos to remain united and active at the grassroots for electoral success.

“Victory depends on our unity, past performance, and focus on people-centred development,” Oladejo said.

He added that political instability often trails Atiku, and Nigeria deserves more than recycled politics.

“Nigerians deserve visionary leadership, not theatrical comebacks. APC is prepared to lead and win,” Oladejo said.

NAN reports that opposition figures, including former PDP and Labour members, recently aligned with ADC ahead of 2027.

  • Former APC chairman gets ADC membership card

Former APC chairman gets ADC membership card

Chief John Odigie, the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday obtained his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City where he registered as a member.

The chairman of the Edo State chapter, Kennedy Odion while presenting the card to him said Oyegun isn’t new to formation of political coalitions.

The state chairman referenced Oyegun’s involvement with the formation of a coalition that led. to the emergence of the APC in 2013.

“He has put together what is called a coalition before, and he succeeded. So, in mathematics, once you understand the formula, the answer is in view. So, he understands how he did it before, so doing it again is not a difficult task.

“So as God may have it, he is not from any other state but from the heartbeat of this nation, Edo State and we are moving the coalition together.

“He was the chairman of the implementation committee that decided that ADC would be the platform,” Odion said.

Responding, Oyegun said there was extensive consultations among stakeholders before settling for the ADC, stressing that the ADC has the interest of Nigerians at heart.

“We talked to a lot of parties, about seven of them. Up till the very last minute. We made a report and we said ADC. And some said, ‘No, no, no, you must still talk to this, you must still talk to that.’

“So, we delayed the decision for another fortnight. At the end of our meeting, we still came back. I said, ‘yes, what you ask us to do, we have done. We have talked to the others, but we have not seen a party as dedicated as the ADC,” Oyegun said.

The former APC national chairman blamed the ruling party for the economic hardship an worsening insecurity in the country.

According to him, Nigeria has never been so divided as it is under the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
