Bayelsa stakeholders urge Gov. Diri to join APC

A political pressure group, the Concerned Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum (CBSF), has urged Gov. Douye Diri to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group’s convener, Mr Wisdom Ikuli, made the appeal on Tuesday in Yenagoa, urging stakeholders to support the move to realign Bayelsa with the Federal Government.

Ikuli, who is also Governor Diri’s Technical Adviser on Print Media, stated that CBSF is non-partisan and includes members from various political backgrounds, including non-indigenes.

He said Bayelsa must urgently align with the APC, as many PDP figures allegedly conspired to deny Bayelsa and the Ijaws the Presidency in 2015.

He alleged there are plans to exploit the PDP’s internal crises and litigations to invalidate candidates who emerge from the party ahead of future elections.

Ikuli stressed that Bayelsa remains the only PDP state in the South South, now controlled by a few individuals who pose electoral risks for 2027.

He revealed that the CBSF would soon begin daily street rallies in Yenagoa to urge Diri to consider defection to the ruling APC.

Ikuli insisted that the governor’s defection is in Bayelsa’s best interest and should be considered non-negotiable and sacrosanct.

He recalled that Ijaw leaders like Chiefs Dappa-Biriye and Melford Okilo advised alignment with the centre for development due to the region’s remoteness.

Ikuli said past alignment with PDP, while it ruled nationally, enabled Bayelsa to produce both Vice President and President in Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

He lamented that Ijaws are now excluded from top federal roles, including the Presidency, Vice Presidency, and Service Chiefs, weakening their political relevance.

“in spite of their population and contribution, Ijaws remain marginalised due to lack of alignment with the ruling party,” Ikuli added.

He argued the Ijaws, which contributes over 65% of Nigeria’s oil wealth, has become powerless because it isn’t aligned with the Federal Government.

Ikuli explained that Nigeria’s North-South power rotation system, stressing the South must complete its eight-year turn under President Bola Tinubu’s current administration.

He noted that Tinubu is committed to strengthening the South and has appointed several Ijaw sons and daughters into key positions.

Ikuli appreciated Tinubu’s appointments, including Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri as Oil Minister and Chief Samuel Ogbuku as NDDC Managing Director.

He also mentioned Chief Ebitimi Amgbare as NDDBA Managing Director and Preye Aganaba as Executive Director at the South South Development Commission.

Ikuli thanked the President for approving federal takeover of the Nembe-Brass Road Second Phase, a key project linking Bayelsa to the Atlantic Ocean.

He said this development shows Tinubu’s commitment to Bayelsa and urged the governor to show solidarity by joining Southern APC governors.

Ikuli added that aligning with the federal government is crucial for realising the Agge Seaport, which will boost the economy and ensure prosperity.

2027: Stop heating up polity – APC chieftain warns coalition leaders

Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has warned opposition political leaders to stop heating up the polity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), gave the warning while addressing newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo.

The APC chieftain said that the utterances and actions of opposition leaders had started causing unnecessary tension across the country.

Oyintiloye said that while the general elections were still almost two years away, the tension being generated in the country was becoming worrisome.

Specifically, Oyintiloye said that a statement credited to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, calling for violent protest for a change of government ahead of the elections was unpatriotic.

He said that what the country needed at this point in time was to consolidate on the gains of democracy and address agitations that could lead to unrest.

Oyintiloye said that while coalition was not a new in any democratic setting, using the platform to set citizens against the government ahead of the general elections should not be tolerated.

According to him, many coalition leaders are hungry for power and are ready to get it at all costs, not minding the negative implications on the country.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, said that although the country was yet to reach its desired destination, President Bola Tinubu had made significant changes to reposition the country.

“We don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and it would be unwise to destroy it with our utterances and actions due to power hunger.

“What the country need now is patriotic leaders who can work together to build a better future, peace and stability,” he said.

He urged opposition leaders to support the President in moving the country forward and stop causing unnecessary tension.

  • 2027: PDP vows to unseat APC in Katsina

2027: PDP vows to unseat APC in Katsina

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its loyalists to remain committed and stand firm to reclaim their mandate in 2027 general elections.

Its governorship candidate during the 2023 general elections in Katsina, Sen. Yakubu Lado-Danmarke stated this in Katsina on Sunday, during a rally which drew party’s officials from the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

The PDP former governorship candidate further declared that: “I am still a card carrying member of PDP and I have no plan to leave the party for any coalition.”

According to him, all his supporters across the state are still members of the party, and will continue to remain.

Recall that a faction of the party led by Dr Mustapha Inuwa, on Sunday, officially announced its decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Lado-Danmarke said the news going round that PDP had collapsed to another party was not true, hence the party members and the general public should disregard such fake news.

He attributed the failure of the PDP in the last general elections in the state to lack of competence of the campaign coordinator in the state.

The former governorship candidate explained that PDP remained optimistic in the next general elections, while calling on members of the party to be committed to the success of the party at all levels.

He said : “I want to assure you that there is no political party in this country that can reduce the current hardship faced by the people, except our party, the PDP.

“Everyone of you knows the kind of good governance experienced during the leadership of PDP at the national, state and local government levels.

“I believe if the eight years of PDP were to be rewinded, Nigerians will definitely feel as if they were in paradise. Therefore, you should not allow anyone to change your mind.”

He called on the party officials to cascade the message to supporters across local government, ward and unit levels.

Earlier, the PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Nura Amadi-Kurfi said the party was too big to join any political party as coalition, saying: “if anyone wants us to join hands as coalition, it must be under the PDP”.

  • Bello disowns APC chairmanship campaign posters

Bello disowns APC chairmanship campaign posters

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has distanced himself from APC National Chairmanship campaign posters recently seen across the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In a statement on Thursday by its Director, Michael Ohiare, the Yahaya Bello Media Office in Lokoja dismissed the posters as the work of mischief makers.

Ohiare expressed surprise at reports suggesting the APC chairmanship campaign posters of the immediate past Kogi governor had flooded parts of Abuja.

“They (the mischief makers) are at it again, having failed on many fronts in their desperate ‘bring-him-down-at-all-costs’ mission,” he noted.

He said the reports would ordinarily be ignored, as close associates know Bello’s loyalty to the party is unwavering.

“As a committed party man, his support for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership has never been in doubt,” Ohiare added.

He stressed that nothing of the sort could come from Bello, particularly when party procedures remain firmly in place.

“Since this is not the first time mischief makers have printed posters in his name, silence is no longer an option,”  Ohiare declared.

He stated that no one was authorised, directly or indirectly, to print or paste any poster on Bello’s behalf.

He urged the public to disregard such acts by individuals bent on embarrassing the former governor.

APC reinstates Kebbi Gov’s aide suspended for bringing snake to govt house

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kebbi chapter has announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Kabir Sani-Giant, Special Adviser to Gov. Nasir Idris on Power and Politics.

Recall that Sani-Giant was suspended on Feb. 28, 2025, for bringing a snake to Government House to intimidate dignitaries, officials and statesmen on the 8th of the same month.

A statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi by Alhaji Muhammad Kana-Zuru, the state Chairman of the party, said the reinstatement was with immediate effect.

According to him, the State Working Committee (SWC) of APC, during it’s meeting held on Tuesday, studied and considered an apology letter by Sani-Giant and decided to withdraw the suspension.

  • You are not a threat to us – APC reacts to ADC’s ‘witch-hunt’ allegations

You are not a threat to us – APC reacts to ADC’s ‘witch-hunt’ allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent allegations of plotting to undermine and destabilize the growing opposition coalition in Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru reports that ADC via Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary on Monday in a statement alleged that former ADC state chairmen and key officials in the North-East and North-West were summoned to a secret meeting with top government officials in President Tinubu-led administration .

However, speaking to Punch, APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim, urged Nigerians to disregard any statements from the ADC spokesman, insisting that Abdullahi once admitted he couldn’t serve as a party’s Publicity Secretary without lying.

He labelled Abdullahi a habitual liar, maintaining that the APC does not see the ADC as a threat.

According to him, “Well, I think for Bolaji Abdullahi to make such sweeping statements, there is the need for him to revisit his conscience and tell Nigerians that he is a repentant spokesperson.

“This is the same Bolaji Abdullahi that said the most difficult job he had done in his life was being the spokesperson of the APC, because, according to him, you cannot do the job without lying. Is he saying now that he has repented from lying, or is he still lying?

“We came on board the publicity department of the APC after he left, and we have not seen anywhere where the party has a creed that directs its spokesperson to lie. So, if Bolaji lied when he was the spokesperson of the APC, he did that out of his lying instinct, not the party’s instinct.

“So, I leave Nigerians with this: the same person who said he trained to lie, or he was trained to lie, what he is doing now is nothing but what he admitted to doing, lying.”

The APC Publicity Secretary stated that the ADC has been in disarray since the day it was unveiled.

“So, the ADC leaders are a bunch of liars and that they are not a threat to APC. They cannot be, because they don’t have what it takes to be a threat to the ruling APC. You see, this is a coalition that is already in disarray. They are not united. They’re having problems. People came to the coalition meeting under false pretext, under false invitation.

“Some were told it was going to be a PDP caucus meeting, that’s why they were there. Some said they were invited for a different purpose, only for them to be photographed and flashed across various media houses as members of the coalition and they are not.”

  • 2027: North solidly behind Tinubu – APC

2027: North solidly behind Tinubu – APC

Senator Ajibola Bashiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the North firmly supports President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, in spite of rumours of a gang-up.

He made this known on Monday in Ibadan while speaking at a media roundtable organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B.

Zone B, led by Mrs Ronke Afebioye-Samo, comprises all six South-West states.

Bashiru dismissed talk of a northern conspiracy against Tinubu’s 2027 bid, calling it “a lie from the pit of hell”.

He said the President is being warmly received in northern cities like Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe.

“It’s a lie from the pit of hell to claim the North is ganging up against Tinubu. I say this from a position of knowledge.

“I am not a flimsy person. I guide myself by Amilcar Cabral’s words: ‘Tell no lies, claim no easy victories’,” Bashiru added.

He insisted northern support for Tinubu is unwavering, with visible street celebrations in many states including Kano, Katsina, and Gombe.

The APC scribe noted that Dauda Kahutu Rarara’s song ‘Omo Ologo’ for Tinubu has become an anthem in many northern communities.

He dismissed the ADC coalition as a “mushroom party” and “contraption” filled with self-serving individuals lacking political relevance.

Bashiru said northern APC structures are solidly behind Tinubu’s 2027 bid, listing Sokoto, Bauchi, Kebbi, and Zamfara among supportive states.

He added that influential northern leaders are rallying behind the President, unlike those spreading baseless “beer-parlour gossip”.

He asserted there is no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031, urging opposition hopefuls to wait their turn.

According to him, APC’s success in recent and off-cycle elections, with a win rate above 75 percent, shows its national acceptance.

“Those voting for our party are Nigerians, not Togolese, Cameroonians or foreigners,” he stated.

Bashiru praised Tinubu’s inclusive leadership, infrastructure progress, and growing support throughout the North.

He said the resignation of APC’s former National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, poses no crisis or threat to the party.

Bashiru, who has declared interest in Osun’s 2026 governorship race, said his chances are very bright.
