APGA candidate urge politicians to pursue policies to promote investments, security

Prof. Benard Odoh, Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi has urged politicians to focus on policies that could bring investments and security of life and property for the people.

Odoh told newsmen in Abakaliki on Thursday, that his administration would be committed to social justice in tackling insecurity, if elected as governor in the 2023 polls.

He decried the spate of insecurity across communities in Ebonyi and the country at large, urging politicians to always treat communal issues with social justice.

“In Ebonyi, what has happened is a situation where vested political interests have been pursued at the expense of the common man.

“One thing that I’m committed to do is dispensing of social justice. Once we dispense social justice, there will be relative peace and insecurity will reduce significantly.

“If you visit many of these communities where we are having crisis, you’ll discover that over 80 per cent of the causes of insecurity are all linked to political involvement.

“Political leadership should pursue agenda and policies that can bring investments into the state and the country.

“As a governor from next year, my focus will not be on petty communal leadership tussle. As I speak to you now, many communities who have elected town union did that at the instructions of the government, not on the basis of who the community prefers as a leader.

“You see, the society that is created in that way must have tensions; the Ezza-Effium crisis started from the motor park leadership.

“Once these things are curtailed, we’ll not have situations where weekly or monthly you have tensions in our communities and clashes,” the candidate stated.

Odoh noted that his administration would work day and night to create conducive economic environment in the communities in the state.

“No investor will come to destinations where there are tension or insecurity because business owners come to make profit and not to cause trouble.

“When I come as governor, surveillance is going to be the key in every part of the state.

“We are going to have a surveillance team, even in the capital city; we are going to have an organised, officially supported security system,” he said.

Chief Sylvester Nwobu-Alor, a popular politician in Anambra State and former political ally of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party is dead.

It was learnt that when Obi was the governor of Anambra State, between 2006 and 2014, Chief Nwobu-Alor assisted him to stabilise parks and markets in the state as the governor’s aide in that sector.

Nwobu-Alor was credited for using his political connection and native intelligence to sanitise the system and return peace to the state.

He was feared by hoodlums in the state as some believed he was a witch doctor.

Nwobu-Alor was a Second Republic lawmaker and former Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation.

He was a founding member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Obi’s former party, on whose platform he was governor of Anambra.

We’ll work against Peter Obi, he’s now a political enemy – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has said the party will work against Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general election.

After a private meeting between the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and members of APGA, there were widespread rumours that he ordered the party faithful to work against Obi.

But Soludo, speaking through his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, moved to deny the widespread speculation.

However, while addressing reporters in Awka on Thursday, the National Coordinator, APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, insisted that Obi is now a political enemy and they will work against him.

“I hate being sentimental on important issues and like saying the raw truth without minding whose ox is gored.

“Our self-acclaimed Saint Peter Obi as the Labour Party presidential candidate has nothing in common with APGA as a party and APGA faithful, because he is now a political enemy.

“Labour Party members will work against APGA candidates in the forthcoming general election and it is also expected of APGA faithful to work against Peter Obi and other Labour Party candidates in the election,” Obigwe said.

He added that “Governor Chukwuma Soludo does not need to tell APGA faithful to work against Peter Obi because they already know that it is the right thing for them to do in the interest of our party, APGA.”

APGA candidate seeks FG intervention in solving Ogbaru’s ecological challenge

A former Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra,  Mr Arinze Awogu, has urged the Federal Government to help the Anambra Government to combat the devastating ecological challenges in the area.

Awogu, who is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the upcoming 2023 polls, said there was a need for the Federal Government to complement the efforts of the Anambra Government in tackling the erosion menace.

He made the appeal at the inauguration of the “Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu Campaign Council“ in Atani on Sunday.

Awogu said the ecological problems of Ogbaru, which had all its 16 communities along the bank of River Niger, included annual flooding and water body encroachment which had displaced families and farmlands permanently.

He said a substantial portion of the ecological fund should be channelled to address the threat in the same way it was being used to intervene in places facing gully erosion and drought.

Awogu promised that if elected he would bring the issues to the front burner and ensure it got the attention and response it deserved from the Federal Government.

“Substantial amount of Ogbaru landscape has been lost to erosion locally called “Iboo” and this is worse than gully erosion.

“When you look towards the River Niger, a visitor would conclude that what is being seen afar is the water body and that is not true.

“Half of what you are seeing used to be people’s houses, farmland, historical sites, public schools, magistrate court, post office, ancient monuments that have been lost to water erosion and the threat is continuing,“ he said.

Awogu praised Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for giving the environmental and existential challenges of Ogbaru people a priority attention but noted that the job was enormous that Anambra government would not be able to shoulder it alone.

According to him, the job of transforming Ogbaru should not be left to the governor alone.

“I will complement the efforts of the governor if I become your representative in the Federal House of Representatives.

“The ecological threats and other challenges we face from Okpoko to Ogwu-Ikpele are enormous.  Our representation at the Green Chamber will give a voice to how the challenges adversely impact on the lives of Ogbaru people,”  he said.

The Campaign Council was inaugurated by Mr Chinedu Nwoye, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol to Soludo.

According to Nwoye,  Awogu is a man of integrity whose passion for the wellbeing of the people is second to none.

He urged the Campaign Council to ensure victory for Awogu, pointing out that he was the hope of an assured future for Ogbaru Constituency.

The Campaign Council has Mr Onochie Obiora, a clergyman and former chairman of APGA in Ogbaru LGA, as its chairman .

The event was attended by government functionaries, House of Assembly members and candidates of APGA, including a former First Lady, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, who is the candidate for Anambra North Senatorial District.

The warning which was widely circulated, copy of which was made available to journalists in Awka from the Anambra State chairman of APGA, Sir Nobert Obi, and to all the State working committee members and all the Local government area and Ward chairmen of the party was dated Aug 18, 2022 ref APGA/AN/08/60.

The chairman said that his attention had been drawn to several unwholesome activities of certain members of the party (APGA) who are campaigning for candidates of other political parties.

He therefore noted that, “You may wish to know that it is wrong for any member to campaign, solicit votes, or attend any activity organized by other political parties or their candidates other than our great party APGA.

“Such development is considered anti-party activity and an act of indiscipline in breach of Article 21, General Code of Conduct of our great party.

“There are several cases of members belonging to WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates of other political parties. Not a few even go as far as sharing posts that promote candidates who are not APGA members”, the chairman further pointed out.

The Chairman emphasized that such action is inimical to the overall interest of APGA which has the intention to sweep the 2023 general elections especially in Anambra’s State where the party has fielded candidates for all the National and State Assembly elections.

Sir Nobert declared that such activity shall be visited with severe disciplinary action as enunciated in Sec 22 of APGA Constitution.

Why I don’t advise my church members who to vote for – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said he does not advise members of his church who to vote for during elections.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports Adeboye stated this while addressing RCCG congregants at a church service, said his assignment is to pray for people, pray for nations including Nigeria, and that has nothing to do with partisan politics.

He said, “Don’t distract my attention, you will bear me witness, those of you who are genuine members of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). I have never told you this is the person you will vote for, Have I ever said that one? Whether in a secret or open, never.

“I have never said this is the party that you will belong to, I have never said it and I will never say it. And you know why? Because in Redeemed Christian Church of God, every party is heavily represented. We have members of APC, PDP, APGA, Labour Party and some that you don’t even know their names.

“The only reason I never voted is that, if I vote for anyone, I will be unjust to the rest of my children, I am the father of all and I like it that way. All I am saying, I am saying loud and clear, you became Nigerians before you became Christians.”

Although the cleric said this months back, the video is currently trending on social media.

APGA said such an action would show decency on the part of the Governor.

Abia State APGA Chairman, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, made the call in a press statement.

According to the Chairman, the party had received with sadness the de-accreditation of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The statement read in part, “The All Progressive Grand Alliance is saddened by these developments and condemns in the strongest terms the callousness and financial brigandage by the PDP government in Abia State which has resulted in this continuous tale of woes.

“APGA finds it hard to understand why a polytechnic and university which are being run successfully and seamlessly by Abia sons like Prof. Gregory Ibe, who do not command the vast resources available to the state, continues to collapse in the hands of a government that pledged to deliver on the trust and expectation of the Abia people.

“Enough is enough. APGA is calling on the PDP governor of Abia State to show some decency by resigning honorably and apologising to Abia State for the misrule and directionlessness his government has foisted on the people”.

“APGA, therefore, called on the Abia masses to “take advantage of the 2023 elections which is a few months away, and ensure that Abia State is rescued from the stranglehold of the PDP by voting in an APGA government through the ballot box.

“I consider this as a sacrifice and a contribution I have to make towards the task of nation-building, believing that we must build a new Nigeria.
