    Less than one hour to the end of his administration, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Sha’aban Sharada as Executive Secretary of newly created Commission on Almajiri.

    Following his assent to the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children Education Bill 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of the outgoing Member of the House of Representatives for Kano Municipal, Honourable (Dr) Sha’aban Sharada as Executive Secretary.

    Hon. Sharada has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano and a Master of Business Administration from University of Chichester, United Kingdom.

    Buhari approves new appointments, renewals of officers in parastatal agencies

    President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of chief executives and renewal of tenure of some officers of parastatal agencies.

    This is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha and issued by Mr Willie Bassey, Director Information, in his office.

    According to the statement, Buhari ratified the appointment of Dauda Biu as the Corp Marshal/Chief Executive Officer, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) with effect from Dec. 23 for an initial term of four years.

    Also, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye was re-appointed as the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), with effective date of December 2022 for a final term of five years.

    Equally, Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila was re-appointed as Director-General National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) with effect from Nov. 21 for a final term of four years.

    Meanwhile, five executive directors were re-appointed in four of the nation’s River Basin Development Authorities.

    They are: Bello Gwarzo, who was re-appointed as Executive Director (Planning), Hadejia Jama’area River Basin Development Authority with effective date of Nov. 23 for a final term of three years.

    Also, the duo of Olatunji Babalola, Executive Director (Engineering) and Adewale Adeoye, Executive Director(Planning and Design), have their positions renewed effective Nov. 23 for a final term of three years in office.

    Also, Bashir Zango, Executive Director (Planning), Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority has his tenure renewed with effect from Nov. 23, 2022 for a final term of three years.

    Mrs Mary Nwabunor, Executive Director (Agricultural Services), Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority was freshly appointment, effective Dec. 19 for an initial term of three years.

    The President congratulated all the appointees and urged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear on their duties.

    Gov Adeleke issues orders reversing appointments made by Oyetola

    Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun, on Monday, issued six executive orders reversing appointments made by former governor Gboyega Oyetola, including appointments of workers and installation of traditional rulers.

    This is contained in a statement by his Spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed.

    The governor signed the executive orders on Monday, including an order freezing all the State Government accounts in all banks and other financial institutions.

    “The six executive orders to take immediate effect. The orders cover chieftaincy matters, appointments issues, setting up of review panel, staff audit and employment matters,” he said.

    Others he said are for the immediate freezing of all the state government accounts in all banks and other financial institutions, order on Staff Audit – All Heads of Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards and Parastatals of Osun State Government are directed to carry out immediate staff audit of the actual number of workers in their establishments as at July 17, 2022.

    The governor said all heads of agencies and parastatals are to file a report to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor stating the full details and position/designation of each of the staff on the forwarded list, within seven working days from the date of the Executive order, using the Oath of Fidelity Template.

    The governor also nullified all employments in the service of Osun State Government made in any capacity into any capacity in all the Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions , Boards and Parastatals after July 17.

    “In the case of Ikirun, Iree and Igbajo, to avoid further breakdown of law and order, the appointments of Akinrun of Ikinrun, Aree of Ire and Owa of Igbajo are hereby put on hold pending review.

    “Subsequently, the palaces of Akinrun of Ikirun, Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo should remain unoccupied, while security agencies are hereby ordered to take charge.” he said.

    The governor said in line with the executive orders  two, three, four and five, the state government has ordered the setting-up of review committees on Staff audit/appointments/promotions, State assets inventory and recovery, Contractors/MoUs/agreements and d. Chieftaincy matters/appointments of traditional rulers.

    The management made this known in a statement released on Wednesday by the Publisher of TNG, Mideno Bayagbon.

    Oyibo, a member of the founding staff of TNG in September 2016, rose from the position of Tech Reporter to Niger Delta Editor and Deputy Editor. He became Acting Editor of the platform in January.

    Skilled in multimedia journalism, Oyibo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics from Delta State University (DELSU) and a Master’s Degree also in Linguistics from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

    A digital media strategist abreast with SEO and web analytics, who also holds a Diploma in Computer Desktop Publishing, the new TNG Editor has worked in a multidisciplinary team of content creators, web designers and marketing executives.

    He brings to the role adept skills in digital storytelling, a demonstrated history of providing solutions in digital journalism, proven experience in digital content development, editing and a special interest in fact check; data, solutions and investigative journalism.

    Oyibo also oversees the not-for-profit arm of TNG, the TNG Centre for Investigative Journalism (TNGCIJ) as the Program Director.

    Commenting on his appointment in the statement, Bayagbon described the Editor as a very intelligent new media journalist and a smart investigator with an incredible eye for news.

    “His experience in new media journalism has given him vast experience of the media landscape of Nigeria, and indeed the West Africa region and Africa in general. He has a good global perspective of news as well.

    “Oyibo’s growth within the period of joining TNG has been particularly impressive. He has an enormously promising career ahead of him, and TNG is keen to be part of it.

    “Above all, we expect that he will be able to build on the relationships TNG has grown with clients and partners and also with team members and take the organization to a whole new level,” he said.

    Bayagbon further stated that TNG would continue to relentlessly pursue its mission of retaining its status as Nigeria’s first comprehensive, real online news platform. He added that TNGCIJ will continue to hold the government at all levels accountable through quality investigative reports.

    Animasaun, a former broadcast journalist at RayPower 100.5 FM, who joined the platform as a Sports Editor was appointed as Deputy Editor of TNG.

    He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from Lagos State University (LASU) and has grown into a fine new media journalist with expertise in developing, producing and managing high-quality news items.

    Animasaun serves in editing, proofreading and suggesting improvements to written content and ensuring compliance with copyright and privacy regulations.

    Both Oyibo and Animasaun will work under the tutelage of renowned scholar and media guru, Dr Chidi Amuta, along with Professors Charles Okigbo, Muhammed Musa, and Ladi Sandra Adamu, who are among 10 eminent Nigerians who have joined the TNG Board.

    The United Kingdom-based erudite scholar and entrepreneur, Dr Alim Abubakre; the suave Matt Aikhionbare, who was private secretary to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, who was also a Secretary to the Government of Edo state under Chief Lucky Igbinedion, are among members of TNG Board.

    Others include top-notch Dublin, Ireland-based legal practitioner, Waheed Mudah, who brings his wealth of legal knowledge to the Board as Secretary while Mrs Judith Ufford and Cordelia Onu, two of the most decorated female journalists in Nigeria bring their diverse experiences.

    Judith, who is a keen activist on Human and Gender Rights, Reproductive Health and Rights, etc., meanwhile brings her expertise for advocacy, networking, training, investigation and reporting to the Board.

    Mrs Cordelia Onu, on the other hand, is a trainer in media usage and mass mobilisation techniques. She is a permanent fellow of the World Press Institute and a visiting Media Fellow at Dewitt Wallace Centre for Communication and Journalism.

    The Board is chaired by Dr Chidi Amuta a well-known author, academic, celebrated columnist and media mogul. He is a visiting  Fellow at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Boston and at Cambridge University. He is one of Nigeria’s most respected public intellectuals and media commentators. He combines an active media career with engagement in serious scholarship while also running the multi-billion naira firm: Wilson & Weizmann Associates.

    Professor Sandra Ladi Adamu is the first professor of broadcasting in Northern Nigeria and is currently a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University. She was at various times Deputy Editor of the Democrat newspapers and News Editor at NTA Jos.

    Dr Abubakre who is also on the advisory board of the London Business School Africa Club is the founder and non-executive chair of These Executive Minds (TEXEM), which has trained thousands of A-List Nigerians in some of the world’s leading and best universities.

    Professor Charles Okigbo is a Professor of Professors with wide academic belts across the globe before becoming a Professor Emeritus of Strategic Communication at North Dakota University. He was a former Registrar of APCON and Coordinator of ACCE.

    Professor Muhammed Musa is a Professor of Communication at the Department of Media and Creative Industries, United Arab Emirates University, Dubai. He is a serially published author whose teaching and research interests are in the political economy of the media, journalism studies, new media and social change.

    Other members of the Board include former acting Editor of Guardian, Mr Jewell Dafinone, who serves as the Group Managing Editor of TNG and Mideno Bayagbon, Publisher of TNG and TNGCIJ.

    Meanwhile, Emma Ovuakporie, TNG’s Regional Editor, Abuja/Northern Nigeria, has the additional responsibilities of leading TNG Events. In this role, Mr Ovuakporie leads TNG in organising cutting-edge public discourse that aids the growth of industries, and governance and delivers networking opportunities to the platform.

    Other members of the editorial team of TNG include Paul Utebor, Bartholomew Madukwe and Abimbola Fabunmi.

    UBA makes new appointments to maintain strategic growth plan

    United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced new appointments as Oliver Alawuba becomes the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the bank.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that UBA made the announcement on Monday in continuation of efforts to maintain its strategic growth plan.

    Alawuba brings his experience in Nigeria and UBA Africa to drive UBA forward and fulfil the Group’s ambitions and destiny, according to a statement by the bank.

    The announcement came on a day the bank made known its plan to implement a separate holdco management structure, subject to regulatory approval.

    The new GMD joined UBA in 1997 and has held a series of senior positions, including as the CEO of UBA Ghana, the CEO of UBA, Africa and most recently, as Group Deputy Managing Director.

    Similarly, Muyiwa Akinyemi was announced as UBA’s new Group Deputy Managing Director and will oversee the entire business in southern Nigeria and continue to provide GAM leadership to the entire Group.

    Akinyemi joined UBA in 1998, as a Senior Banking Officer in UBA’s Energy Bank and has served the Group in Nigeria and our broader Africa network for 24 years.

    Also, Emem Usoro is now the Executive Director, Nigeria North. She joined the Group in 2011 and has served in a series of senior regional appointments across Nigeria, covering the retail, corporate and public sectors.

    Sola Yomi-Ajayi is the new Executive Director, Treasury & International Banking. Sola has been with the Group since 2004 and has considerable international experience, culminating in her appointment as CEO of UBA America.

    Alex Alozie has been appointed as Executive Director/Group Chief Operating Officer. Alex joined the Group in 2019 as a Deputy General Manager, and has driven the Group’s digital transformation and operational efficiencies.

    Other appointments include Ugochukwu Nwaghodoh – Executive Director, Risk & Finance. Ugo joined the Group from PwC in October 2004. He has since held a series of significant roles in the areas of performance management, compliance,financial control and reporting.

    Sampson Aneke – Group General Manager – Retail, Digital & Transaction Banking. Sampson joined the Group in 2019, and had responsibility for SME banking across the Group’s African network, and most recently was responsible for the Group’s business in Lagos and southern Nigeria.

    Sanusi Mudasiru – Chief Compliance Officer (Audit & Compliance). Sanusi joined the Group in 1998 and his career has been devoted to ensuring the robustness of the Group’s compliance and internal control functions. He has served as COO for UBA Ghana, UBA Zambia and UBA Africa. Prior to this appointment, he was Group Head, Compliance.

    TNG reports the appointment for the Executive Director, UBA Africa will be announced on January 01, 2023.

    In the meantime, the Bank said the following will continue to provide leadership for regions: Abiola Bawuah – Regional CEO, West Africa; Amie Sow – Regional CEO, CEMAC, and Ebele Ogbue – Regional CEO, East and Southern Africa.

    According to the bank, all appointments take effect from August 01, 2022 and are subject to regulatory approvals.

    Less than six hours after his inauguration as the sixth Governor of Anambra, Prof. Charles Soludo has announced the appointment of three persons into his administration.

    The statement containing the new appointments was released to newsmen by Mr Joe Anatune, on Thursday in Awka.

    The statement announced the appointment of Prof. Osita Chukwulobelu as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

    Dr Chukwudi Okoli was announced as the Accountant General, while Mr Chinedu Nwoye was appointed as Deputy Chief Of Staff/State Chief of Protocol.

    El-Rufai reshuffles cabinet, announces new appointments

    Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday assigned new portfolios to some commissioners and senior officials of the state government.

    He explained that the reshuffle was designed to help harness fresh energy for the government’s final lap, bring new insights, and enable the commissioners to have a more rounded experience of the government, said a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye.

    Eight of the 14 commissioners swapped portfolios, although there were no changes in the Ministries of Finance, Justice, Health, Housing and Urban Development, Internal Security and Home Affairs, as well as Human Services and Social Development.

    The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Muhammad Abdullahi, was redeployed to the Ministry of Planning and Budget Commission as commissioner – a position he held during the governor’s first term.

    Other commissioners redeployed include Jaafaru Sani (Environment), Thomas Gyang (Public Works and Infrastructure), Halima Lawal (Education), Ibrahim Hussaini (Agriculture), Shehu Muhammad (Local Government), Kabir Mato (Business, Innovation, and Technology), and Idris Nyam (Sports Development).

    Governor El-Rufai also appointed Balaraba Aliyu-Inuwa, Muhammad Bayero, and Phoebe Yayi as administrators of the Zaria Metropolitan Authority, Kaduna Capital Territory, and Kafanchan Municipal Authority respectively.

    This follows the passage of the law creating metropolitan authorities to manage the areas as organic cities.

    Similarly, the governor approved the deployment of Umma Aboki as Permanent Secretary, Planning and Budget Commission; Murtala Dabo as Executive Chairman, Fiscal Responsibility Commission; and Abubakar Hassan as Director-General, Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA).

    Others are Tamar Nandul as Managing Director, Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company; Khalil Khalil as Executive Secretary, Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA); and Maimunatu Abubakar as General Manager, Kaduna Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA).

    “Amina Ladan will oversee the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) following the redeployment of Engineer Muhammad Lawal Magaji to the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure,” the statement said.

    “The government has also announced the appointments of Professor Mohammed Sani Bello as Chairman of the Local Government Service Board; Muhammed Muazu Muqaddas as Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Authority (SEMA); and Dr Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu as Permanent Secretary.

    “The governor has nominated Dr Ishaya Sarki Habu (Chairman), Aminu Yusuf Musa, Engineer Rabiu Tanko, and Rebecca Nnawo Barde as the new members of the Legislative Service Commission. Malam Nasir El-Rufai has conveyed the state government’s gratitude for the service of Aliyu Saidu, former DG-KADCHMA and Lawal Jibrin, former GM of KEPA who are leaving the government.”

He retired as Group General Manager in charge of Group Finance for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of NNPC Oilfield Services Limited, NIDAS Marine Limited and NNPC Pension Fund Limited between 2011 and 2016. In recognition of his meritorious service, he received numerous awards, including the First Place Ministerial Award for outstanding Staff Performance from the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

    He is a Member of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Accountancy, and State of New Hampshire Board of Accountancy. He is also a Member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and National Association of Black Accountants.

    Vincent Ozoude is the MD/CEO of Trans-Afam Power Ltd. He joined Transcorp Group from General Electric (GE) Inc-Sub Sahara Africa, where he was Sales Director, covering the entire Sub-Saharan Africa for General Electric Power Generation Services portfolio. A graduate of Chemical Engineering with Masters in the same field from Enugu state University of Science and Technology, Vincent is leading Transcorp’s recently acquired 966MW power plant asset, Afam Genco, which comprises of Afam Power Plc and Afam Three Fast Power Ltd.

    Engr. Ozoude has over 20 years’ work experience in the Power Generation services sector, was at some time a member of GE Field Engineers advisory board for Africa and Middle East region, a greenbelt lean six sigma qualified and won numerous awards such as Everyday Excellence Expertise Award from GE Global leadership, Clear Thinker Award amongst others.

    Peter Ikenga is the MD/CEO Transcorp Energy to lead the Conglomerate’s integrated energy strategy, with particular focus on Gas, Renewables and Alternative Energy. He brings with him, a wealth of global professional experience, having directly developed and managed major Oil, Gas and power assets and operations in multiple regions including Nigeria, Brazil and the United States of America for Shell Nigeria and Shell International. Prior to joining the group, Peter was Refining Director for an Indigenous Oil and Gas operator in Nigeria.

    BREAKING: Buhari makes new appointments in aviation agencies

    President Muhammadu Buhari has approved some reorganizations, and made new appointments in agencies under the ministry of aviation.

    This, James Odaudu, Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation in a statement, said was in line with the administration’s commitment to the implementation of the Aviation Development Roadmap.

    According to the statement, President Buhari approved the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

    He replaces Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi.

    “Professor Matazu holds a PhD in Geography (Applied Meteorology), with membership of the Nigerian Environmental Society, African Forestry Forum, Nigerian Meteorological Society, the Climate Change Network, Nigeria and the renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Nigeria (REEN).

    “He was, until his appointment, the General Manager, Meteorological Research in the Agency.

    “Also approved by the President is the appointment of Captain Modibbo Alkali Mahmud as the new Rector of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, (NCAT) Zaria.

    “The new Rector holds the Airline Transport Pilot Licenses of the Federal Aviation Administration, USA, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Embraer, Citation and other international professional certifications.

    “Until his appointment, Captain Modibbo had served in various capacities, including Pilot in Training, Fleet Captain at Dornier Aviation Nigeria, Max Air and other organisations and has clocked about 6000 hours of flying career.

    “In a related development, the President has also approved the reappointment of Engr. Akin Olateru as the Commissioner / Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria.

    “An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with Nigerian, UK and USA licenses, Olateru began his career in engineering maintenance with Pan African Airlines and the Nigerian Police Air Wing after which he left Nigeria for further studies abroad.

    “He has also worked with multiple airlines in Europe including KLM, Martin Air in Holland, British Aerospace Engineering and British Midland Airways.

    “He attended City University, London and graduated with an M.Sc. in Air Transport Management with specializations in research and simulations into accident investigations.

    “All the appointments are with immediate effect.

    “It should be noted that the reorganisation is a continuous exercise that will involve other management staff of all agencies of the Ministry,” the statement reads.
