Aregbesola consults Ooni, Alaafin to help him beg Tinubu

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting in Ibadan with the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in respect of his rift with Bola Tinubu, a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, the meeting was conveyed to resolve the lingering strained relationship between the two prominent Yoruba political leaders- Bola Tinubu and Rauf Aregbesola.

It was also gathered that the meeting, held at a private residence of the Alaafin of Oyo in Ibadan, lasted for about two hours.

The meeting was said to be a first step toward finding a lasting reconciliation between the two political gladiators, Tinubu and Aregbesola.

A source closed to the meeting told newsmen that after consultations, the leaders agreed to move to the next stage of the meeting, which would be held at a later date.

Recall that Aregbesola, had in the build-up to February 2022 Governorship primaries of the APC in Osun, allegedly disparaged Tinubu for taking sides with Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, his brother.

A source told newsmen in Ibadan that Aregbesola had asked the traditional rulers to resolve his feud with Tinubu, who is eyeing the presidential ticket of the APC in 2023 election.

The source said: “Rauf Aregbesola came before the Ooni; after he entered, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi joined shortly.

“Nobody was allowed to enter. Nobody was briefed. They later finished and entered their cars. All those photos you see online were taken by their aides.”

However, details of the meeting were still unknown as at the time of filing this reports.

The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) had waded into the rift.

“This is with a view to finding amicable solutions to the feud between Aregbesola and his political mentor, Tinubu,” the source said.

APC primary: Rauf Aregbesola speaks out after losing ward to Oyetola

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed displeasure over the conduct of Saturday governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun.

Aregbesola, who was absent at his Ifofin Ward 8 in Ilesa East Local Government area, expressed his displeasure in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo, on Saturday.

The statement, entitled: “Hold Your Heads High” was issued by his Media Adviser, Sola Fasure, saying that he had heard how the party’s registration cards were being hawked to the supporters of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola.

Oyetola won by 309 votes against 146 votes recorded for Moshood Adeoti, the candidate supported by Aregbesola in the later’s Ward in Ilesa.

The minister said he also received reports of how accreditation was not done at all in many wards.

He also alleged that people without the party’s identification cards, participated in the primary and queued behind the governor in many polling units.

Aregbesola, however, urged his supporters to maintain their cool and calm.

According to him, you have demonstrated your loyalty to the party and democratic ideals.

“You adopted a non-violent posture, even, in the face of sore provocation. You have comported yourselves as Omoluabi in the true essence.

“We have received and continue to receive the reports of the shenanigans of the officials who conducted the sham of an election.

“We have been inundated with reports statewide of how your names were expunged from the party’s voter’s register.

“This was not made available until this morning, contrary to the convention of making the list available to the candidates before the election.

“We have heard of how party registration cards were being hawked this morning to the supporters of the state governor.

“We have received the reports from our members and independent observers of how government officials and notable supporters of the governor officiated in the election.

“We have heard of the absence of result sheets and other vital documents for recording results and vital data,” Aregbesola said.

The minister said his camp also noted the absence of INEC officials in most wards, casting serious doubt on the credibility of the election.

“We note with shame and much regret the consternation of local and international observers on what they regard as a travesty of an election. Be not downcast, be not agitated. Hold your head high.

“We are still receiving and studying all these reports and will take a definitive position on them. You are urged not to take laws into your hands.

“Please leave the rest to the Almighty God and let us explore all peaceful and legal means for addressing the matter in order to obtain justice.

“Please remain committed to peace and the rule of law. Be unflinching in your commitment to the democratic ideals.

“Democracy is for the long haul. As you all know, we never tire and we never give up on the cause we believe in,” he said.

The two other main aspirants battling for the governorship ticket of the party are: Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government and Lasun Yusuf, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Aregbesola, also a the immediate past Governor in the state, had declared his support for Adeoti, as his preferred candidate to fly the party’s ticket.

Oyetola is seeking to win the party’s ticket to actualise his second term bid.

It’s time for you to expose TInubu’s secrets – Reno Omokri tells Aregbesola

Former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has called on the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, to expose the secret behind the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu’s wealth.

Omokri was reacting to the result of the APC primary election for the forthcoming gubernatorial poll in Osun State, where Aregbesola’s candidate, Moshood Adeoti, lost his (Aregbesola) ward to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, his political rival.

According to Omokri, a socio-political activist, if the minister fails to take action by crippling the political ambition of Tinubu, the former Lagos State Governor and Oyetola may frustrate him after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Omokri urged Buhari’s Minister to expose the real age and other secrets Tinubu, a 2023 presidential candidate, may have been keeping from Nigerians.

He said, “See how you have been disgraced by Tinubu and Oyetola in Osun. Now is the time for you to expose your godfather, Tinubu. Tell the world his real name, his genuine age, and the secret behind his stupendous wealth. You know those secrets. Now, spill the beans! Because if you remain silent now, Oyetola and Tinubu will only grow politically stronger.

“And when Buhari goes in 2023, you will be naked with nobody to protect you. Imagine how miserable your life will be with Tinubu in Aso Rock and Oyetola in Osogbo.

“They both know many secrets (remember the Opon Imo contracts and the allegations against your son, Kabiru). They will have the Police, the EFCC, and the ICPC at their beck and call. Even if you run to London, you may receive the Ibori treatment.

“You see what I am doing to Buhari as #BuhariTormentor? Multiply that by a factor of ten. That is what they will do to you. So, better talk now, or be silenced after 2023.”

Oyetola, Aregbesola’s loyalists express mixed feelings over Osun primary

Supporters of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun and that of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, have expressed mixed feelings on the conduct of the Saturday governorship primary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

While Oyetola’s supporters described the exercise as peaceful and impressive, Aregbesola’s faction said the exercise was full of irregularities.

Commenting, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Benedict Alabi, described the exercise as peaceful, while the turn out was impressive.

Alabi, at his Ward 006 in Ikire, Irewole Isokan Local Government area, said the party members were orderly and that there was no reported cases of violence.

“I am happy we have a peaceful, free and fair primary.

“The fact is that there is only one candidate that is contesting the primary in Osun and that is the incumbent governor.

“We have the other faction with two aspirants, but they are not visible here,” the deputy governor said.

Also, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, commended the impressive turn out as well the peaceful conduct of the primary.

Oyebamiji, who spoke at his Ward 009 in Ikire, lauded the efforts of security operatives for ensuring peaceful atmosphere for the primary.

The commissioner said he was confident that Oyetola would emerge the winner of the primary.

Meanwhile, the factional Chairman of the party, loyal to Aregbesola, Razak Sanisile, said the primary was “full of anomalies” .

Salinsile told newsmen at his Ward 004, Isale-Oba in Iwo Local Government Area of the state, that the party’s register was not made available to them.

“Up till today, we have not seen the register of the party, which is against the rule of the game.

“At least, each of the spirant is expected to have a copy of the register of members, but none of them has it.

“We raised it at the stakeholders’ meeting at the party secretariat.

“Many of our supporters cannot find their names on the register.

“All these anomalies will tell on the outcome of the election.

“I see it as a mere exercise, a waste of time and resources,” he said.

Also, the Chairman of Ward 008, Ilesa East Local Government, Adegoke Saheed, a loyalist of Aregbesola, said the process was full of irregularities.

Saheed alleged that the party’s register used for the primary was different from the one used during the registration, pointing out that names of their members were missing on the register.

He said the absence of Aregbesola, whom he claimed was on an official assignment by President Muhammadu Buhari, did not allow his complaint to receive attention.

“It was in the morning we learnt that Rauf Aregbesola has gone for an official assignment given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“That is why he was not around to monitor or participate in the process.

“If the minister has been around, they will listen to him with all my complaints. They wouldn’t have used the power of incumbency they used,” Saheed said.

However, the Chairman of the Primary Committee, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

AbdulRazak, who spoke to newsmen while monitoring the exercise in Iragbiji, lauded the party members for their impressive turn out and peaceful conduct.

He said that peaceful conduct contradicted the expectations of many over the exercise.

“Let me congratulate the people of Osun State and members APC.

“What is happening here shows that the party is alive and strong. You can see that from the huge turnout.

“If you open the pages of newspapers today, what was painted was a picture of war in Osun.

“But, the primary election has been peaceful. I congratulate the people of Osun and all the aspirants. They have all done well,” he said.

In his reactions, the Chairman, Elders Council for APC in Ife Central, Prince Felix Awofisayo, said: “Everything went on smoothly at my centre.

“There is no rancour, no fighting and no acrimony, both the accreditation and election went on peacefully and it was free and fair election.”

He urged the people of Osun to vote for the candidate of APC during the forthcoming governorship election coming up on July 16.

Awofisayo made the plea while casting his vote at Ife Girls High School, Iremo Ward 11, Eleyele in Ile-Ife.

He thanked the party members for their supports, saying that they all behaved well during the election.

Awofisayo said, “Let’s try to maintain the peace and orderliness of today on July 16, 2022, during the governorship election when we will make our final decision.”

Also, an APC stalwart, Benjamin Adereti, said that since all the contestants are from APC, they have no choice than to jointly worked together.

Adereti said the accreditation and election were peaceful, the voters were for growth and progress of Ile-Ife, Osun and Nigeria at large.

He commended all those that participated in the election, including journalists and security agencies for their meaningful contributions to the success of the primary.

Also, Mr Wole Omotosho, who spoke on behalf of a faction of APC, said that election has come and gone and thanked God for allowing peace to reign.

Omotosho commended the citizenry for maintaining peace during and after the election, saying that if thing should continue this way, democracy would stand forever across the country.

He called on party supporters to behave well in an orderly manner on July 16, so as to have the best man elected as the governor of the state.

Osun APC Guber Primary: Aregbesola’s camp reacts to loss

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state have alleged removal of their names from the party’s register in the ongoing governorship primary of the party.

The aggrieved APC members, who are loyal to Moshood Adeoti, an aspirant, expressed displeasure at ward 15, Oyan, Odo-Otin LGA of the state, on Saturday.

The Osun APC has been divided into two major factions — a development that has created disharmony in the party.

A faction of the party known as the Ileri Oluwa group is loyal to Gboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor of Osun, who is also contesting for a second term ticket.

The other faction — TOP — is loyal to Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior and a former governor of the state, supporting Adeoti, a former secretary to the state government.

The party members claimed that despite having the party’s membership cards, their names were missing on the register at the wards for the primary election.

Recall that Oyetola had been in early lead in the guber primary as results have shown in some of the wards collated already.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has lauded Osun as the most peaceful state in the country, saying that the insinuations of violence making the rounds were mere speculations.

There were speculations in the build-up to the State’s primary election of the All Progressive Congress, of a possible onslaught by the members of the splinter group within the Party called The Osun Progressives (TOP).

Reports from the ongoing Osun APC governorship primaries indicate that the governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola is leading the candidate of ex-governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Adeoti.

This is coming after Aregbesola openly declared war against the incumbent governor last weekend, while stating that he has gone against the party in the state.

The group, comprising of loyalists of the immediate past governor and current Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, had produced two aspirants: Alhaji Moshood Adeoti who was a former Secretary to the State Government, and Hobourable Lasun Yusuff, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. However, Adeoti was preferred by Aregbesola.

But speaking during the exercise at Boripe Ward 1, St. Peter’s Primary School, Olotin, Oyetola commended Party members for exemplifying the peaceful demeanour that Osun was known for.

Osun 2022: I’ll not boycott APC primary – Aregbesola’s anointed candidate, Adeoti

Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a factional Governorship aspirant in the Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship primary in Osun said he would not boycott the exercise.

Adeoti, who is enjoying the backing of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, also the immediate past Governor in the state, made this known at a news conference on Friday in Osogbo.

The aspirant said in spite of his doubt that the exercise would not be free and fair, he along with all his supporters, would participate in the exercise.

“My supporters and I are going to participate in the primary election tomorrow.

“We are not going to boycott it. I want to urge all the APC members to go to the Collation Centres in their various wards to vote for me,” he said.

Adeoti alleged that the primary election had been schemed in favour of Gov. Oyetola, because of his membership of the National Caretaker and Extra Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (NCECPC) of the party.

He said the date of the primary election, which had earlier been slated for March 5, was reversed by the NCECPC to Feb. 19, to favour Oyetola.

Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government, said, “We have it on good authority that the NCECPC was influenced by Oyetola to reverse the date to have the primary before the National Convention coming up on Feb. 26, 2022.

“It is believed that Oyetola is afraid of contesting a free and fair primary election to be conducted by an objective committee after the convention.

“In the spirit of fair play, objectivity and natural justice, Gov. Oyetola is not supposed to remain in the membership of the NCECPC,” he said.

Adeoti further alleged that the governor had refused to release the register of the party members expected to be used for the primary election.

The aspirant, however, called on the security agencies in the state to provide adequate security for the people during and after the exercise.

Aregbesola had declared his support for Adeoti, as his preferred candidate to fly the party’s ticket.

Oyetola is seeking to win the party’s ticket to actualise his second term bid.

The moves in the camps of the two leaders had heightened tensions in the political situation in the state.

Osun: Rauf Aregbesola vows to work against Oyetola’s reelection

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate past governor of Osun and current Minister of Interior, on Thursday vowed to work against the reelection of his successor, Gboyega Oyetola.

Aregbesola said this at a political gathering in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary on Saturday would determine Oyetola’s fate in office.

According to reports Aregbesola is at loggerheads with Gov Oyetola.

Aregbesola has declared his support for the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, as his preferred candidate to fly the party’s ticket.

Oyetola, on his part, is seeking to win the party’s ticket to actualise his second-term bid, and moves in the camps of the two leaders have heightened tensions in the state.

Aregbesola, who spoke in Yoruba, said Oyetola had been in battle with him since assumption of office.

He said, “Those we assisted are now against us and we have reported them to God. He (Oyetola) will not return for second term.

“Saturday’s primary election will determine his fate. The party has already said that we should conduct election after four years.

“I campaigned passionately for him under the rain, but he is now my enemy. I begged him for two years and even sent people to him but he refused. Everything we did together for eight years, he destroyed.

“When I saw that he was firm on this enmity, I told God about it. Even if Bola Ige comes back to this earth, he will join us,” he said.

Aregbesola, who urged the people to vote massively for Adeoti on the July 16 gubernatorial election, said he (Adeoti) did not insult or speak against him when he was angry with the party.

But the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan, said Aregbesola is not God and cannot determine the fate of his principal.

Omipidan said that his principal had absolute faith in God and the people of Osun, adding that in the last three years plus, the people can tell the difference in terms of responsible and responsive governance and politics.

He said, “The general belief among most Africans that a man’s life is preordained and ruled by God, has continued to play out in the political trajectory of Oyetola.

“From 2011 when he was appointed Chief of Staff to 2018 when, against all odds, he emerged, first as the candidate of the APC, and later, Governor of the State, at a time when many thought it was all over for him, it was obvious that he was on a divine political course.

“My Principal has absolute faith in God and the people of Osun. In these last three years plus, the people can tell the difference in terms of responsible and responsive governance and politics.

“Therefore, it is God and Osun people that will determine Oyetola’s fate, not an individual trying to play God,” Omipidan said.

Also, the Chairman of Osun APC Elders’ Caucus, popularly known as ‘Igbimo Agba’, Mr Sola Akinwumi, condemned Aregbesola’s attitude, describing it a display of thuggery and hooliganism that is unbefitting of his personality.

Akinwumi said this while receiving the governor at his residence in Ilobu, Irepodun Loca Government Area of the state.

Akinwumi, who noted that Aregbesola was acting like a baby politician, commended Gov. Oyetola for his display of maturity and competence in handling the matter.

He called on the aggrieved members of the ruling party to return to the party and stop being deceived by those who have nothing to offer them.

Akinwumi noted that the APC remains one and united family in the State, saying anyone doing otherwise is just a joker of the century.

Police refute claim of attack on Aregbesola’s convoy

The Police Command in Osun has denied the report that the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, was attacked and shot at by hoodlums in Osogbo.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Yemisi Opalola, in a statement on Monday in Osogbo, said that it was some of the minister’s escort that shot into the air without provocation, causing people to scramble for safety.

“Today, Monday, at about 5.40pm, the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola was moving in convoy of personnel of NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration, as well as some unidentified armed people, suspected to be political thugs along Orisumbare/MFS Road, Osogbo.

“Suddenly, some of the security escorts of the minister started shooting sporadically into the air without any provocation nor attack, thereby causing members of the public to scramble for their safety.

“Thirteen empty shells of G-3, assault and AK-37 rifle were recovered along the road after the minister’s departure.

“No casualty, however, was recorded”, the PPRO pointed out.

She, however, said that the report of the incident was still sketchy, adding full report would be made available at the end of investigation.

According to her, the situation is under close monitoring and normalcy has returned.

The Publicity Secretary of a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Abiodun Agboola, had in a statement alleged that Aregbesola’s convoy was attacked by some armed political thugs at Orisunmibare, Osogbo ,while coming from Ilesa.

“Today’s attempt on the life of the minister is a confirmation that Osun is no longer a safe state.

“We can only pray that the Almighty would keep the good people of Osun and her well wishers safe”, Agboola said.

  • Pandemonium in Osogbo as Aregbesola security officers shoot sporadically

Pandemonium in Osogbo as Aregbesola security officers shoot sporadically

Residents and passersby around Fagbewesa, Orisumbare, Oke Fia and MDS areas of Osogbo, on Monday, ran in different directions as heavy shooting from security men attached to the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, rented the air.

It was gathered that Aregbesola’s convoy was coming from Station Road end of Osogbo and headed to Oke Fia area, around 6:40pm when the incident, which lasted about 10 minutes, happened.

An aide to Aregbesola, Bola Ilori, in a Facebook post shortly after the incident, said miscreants working for the incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, had attacked the former governor but were repelled by security details attached to him.

The post read, “Only a lazy man starts a wrestling match with cutlass and guns – Aregbe. Oyetola thugs fired several gunshots at Aregbesola’s convoy after declaring his preferred choice for Governorship. The attackers were repelled by combined efforts of Police, DSS, NSCDC, etc and luckily no casually was recorded.”

But the Chairman, World Institute for Peace, a non-governmental organisation, Lamina Kamildeen, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, in a Facebook post accused security men attached to Aregbesola of shooting sporadically while passing through Old Garage.

Kamildeen, who claimed to be inside Orisumbare market, when the incident happened wrote, “Shooting sporadically by the security men who were in the company of the former Governor Aregbesola of the State of Osun in Osogbo today is but a misplacement of priority! No matter what, this is a state you have once governed for a two-term tenure.

“Ogbeni needs to know that nothing is sweeter than peace in any given society. Mr. Minister of Interior, you have to apologize to the Osun people for many citizens were injured while running for their lives today. I am not giving any judgment though, but the shooting was huge and caused a lot of panics.”

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government and an aide to the Interior Minister, Bola Ilori, had traded blame over the incident.

The government in a Public Service Announcement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, explained that, “misguided cowards have invaded Osogbo, the Osun State capital with armed thugs to foment trouble”.

“These miscreants and their kingpin started shooting as they raced through the town. Their interest is simply to attempt to thwart the peace of the state and create fear in the minds of the good people of Osun counting on a long-lost influence.

“The Government of Osun hereby warns that there are no sacred cows in the state. No one is above the law here regardless of their past glories or future aspirations.

“Security agencies have been well briefed about the activities of these mischief-makers, who have set themselves on a collision course with the law.”

Osun Attack: Aregbesola’s faction of APC calls for transfer of Police Chief

A faction in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, supported by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has called for immediate transfer of the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, accusing him of bias.

The factional Chairman, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, made the call at a news conference on Friday in Osogbo, saying that series of attacks on members of the group reported to the commissioner, were not treated.

According to him, Olokode was usually quick in attending to the complaints by the people in authorities against members of my group.

Salinsile, also accused some leaders of the faction supported by Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of sponsoring attacks on Aregbesola’s supporters.

He said leaders and members of his group had been exposed to series of attacks.

Salinsile said that while the perpetrators were known and a petition was written, no concrete action was taken by the security agents, especially the police.

“We had intelligence reports of the IleriOluwa faction’s plan to attack us, and we promptly passed the information to the Commissioner of Police in particular and all other security agencies, but nothing was done about it till now.

“We, therefore, plead with the Inspector-General of Police to please expeditiously transfer Olokode from Osun with immediate effect.

“Olokode, to the best of human understanding is incapable of carrying out his job impartially as demanded by the constitution,” the factional chairman said.

Recalled that suspected armed thugs had at about 5.30 p.m on Thursday attacked the Campaign office of Aregbesola, popularly known as “Oranmiyan House” in Osogbo.

The wall of the building was reportedly riddled by bullets, while the gunmen burnt some canopies within the premise.

Meanwhile, the Osun Command said it would carry out intensive investigation to fish out the perpetrators of the attack on the Aregbesola’s Campaign office.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, said in a statement that anyone arrested in connection with the attack would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Opalola said the state Commissioner of Police had visited the scene for an on the spot assessment, assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

“Consequent upon the attack on the Oranmiyan House, located along Gbongan/Ibadan Road, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, has visited the area for an on the spot assessment.

“The CP assured the people that the perpetrators will be brought to book, and directed the Command’s Tactical Teams to embark on rigorous and intensive investigation to fish out the perpetrators for them to face the full wrath of the law.

“The CP, in his spirited efforts to fight crimes to a standstill, has rejigged the command’s security action plans in tackling any form of crime in the state. He admonished the political gladiators to play the game according to the rules.

“The CP also urged the people of the state to continue with their legitimate businesses as police personnel, jointly with the local security outfits, have been charged and drafted to the areas to maintain absolute peace.

“The CP further implores members of the public to give timely and actionable information to the police,” Opalola said.

Also, the state government has dissociated itself from the attack on Aregbesola’s Campaign office.

Mrs Funke Egbemode, the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said the Commissioner of Police had been charged to fish out the perpetrators of the attack and bring them before the law.

“The accusation that the government of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola had anything to do with Thursday’s attack on the Oranmiyan House is sad and laughable.

“It defies reasoning that a man who has invested so much in the peace of Osun in the last three years will descend that low,” she said.
