76 year old soul music legend, Aretha Franklin who has been reported to be ‘gravely ill’ is now said to be ‘alert and laughing’.

Her Nephew, Tim Franklin has revealed that she is in good spirits and at home, although there are concerns over reports her death is said to be imminent.

Tim told People magazine: “She’s alert, laughing, teasing, able to recognise people. Family is there with her. She’s home. ‘I saw her a week ago Friday and we talked for about 45 minutes to an hour. My brother was there on Saturday and she was alert, talking, laughing, joking.

“She’s watching TV, so God forbid she sees all of this ‘Aretha’s dead,’ so I don’t want to dampen her spirits on that,” he said.

Though social media has been awash with news that she has been battling a long illness, her family remain hopeful she will recuperate

“She is sick but her family are] trying to keep her spirits up and go from there. We believe she’ll pull through it, she believes she’ll pull through it, and that’s the important thing”, Franklin said

America’s queen of soul is reportedly “gravely ill” in Detroit, where friends and family have gathered around her.

Detroit news anchor Evrod Cassimy broke the news of Franklin’s impending retirement in February confirming that Franklin’s family informed him Monday morning that Franklin is “gravely ill.”

“I am so saddened to report that the Queen of Soul and my good friend, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill,” Cassimy wrote on Twitter.

“I spoke with her family members this morning. She is asking for your prayers at this time. I’ll have more details as I’m allowed to release.”

Franklin last performed in November 2017 at Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation gala. Earlier this year, Franklin revealed that she would retire from touring in 2018, although she hoped to perform live occasionally at her planned Detroit namesake nightclub that she would own.

“I am retiring this year,” Franklin told Cassimy. “I will be recording, but this will be my last year in concert. This is it.” Franklin also announced plans to work on a new Stevie Wonder-assisted album.
