He said “When you’ve [Lionel] Messi in your team, you’ve to run for him. And when you’ve the ball, you’ve to give it to him as soon as possible so that he can create something. So the players know what they need to do in every single moment, to give Messi everything he needs to be decisive like he was on Tuesday night against Croatia.

“It has been one of the keys of this side [Argentina team], how they all believe that by playing for Messi, they can win the World Cup,” Pochettino said (via The Athletic).

Argentine goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez has said Lionel Messi should lead the South American nation at the 2026 FIFA FIFA World Cup.

Messi has hinted that the 2022 World Cup final could be his final official appearance for the South Americans, but Martinez want the forward to continue with the national team.

In a media chat, Martinez said:

“For me he can play until he is 50. He looks really sharp and he looks so good. He makes things look easy – it’s the hardest thing to do.

“To understand how well he hits the ball is something. He puts the ball there and looks at you and hits the ball top corner, if he misses he hits the post, or crossbar. That left foot. He is small, but so strong.”

Qatar 2022: France zooms into World Cup final, beat Morocco 2-0

World Cup defending champions, the Le Blues of France today zoomed into the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after defeating Morocco 2-0 at the At Bayt Stadium.

The French took the lead inside five minutes of the encounter as Theophilus Hernandez scored a beautiful volley to launch France into the lead.

Antoine Griezmann gets in behind the defence and he cuts the ball back for Kylian Mbappe. The striker shoots as red shirts charge towards him like moths to light but the blocked effort only fell into the path of AC Milan defender, Theo Hernandez who with a high volley put the ball past Bono to give France the lead.

Theo Hernández is the third defender to have both scored and assisted in a single World Cup tournament with France, after Marius Trésor in 1982 and Bixente Lizarazu in 1998.

In the 78th Minute, the ball falls for Randal Kolo Muani who with his first touch after being introduced few seconds earlier latched on to a loose ball inside Morocco’s 6 yard box for France’s second goal of the encounter.

It ended 2-0 in Favour of France.

This result meant France will play Argentina in the final of the Mundial on Sunday 18th December, 2022, whilst Morocco will slug it out with Croatia for the bronze medal match.

  • Qatar 2022: What Messi said after guiding Argentina to World Cup final

Qatar 2022: What Messi said after guiding Argentina to World Cup final

Lionel Messi hailed Argentina’s resilience after his majestic display against Croatia ensured a World Cup that began with defeat to Saudi Arabia could end in glory.

Messi recorded a goal and an assist as Argentina posted a 3-0 win over Croatia at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday to reach their sixth World Cup final – a tally only bettered by Germany (eight).

Having opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half, Messi rolled back the years with a remarkable assist as Julian Alvarez completed his brace after the break, beating Josko Gvardiol twice before teeing up a simple finish for the Manchester City forward.

Messi now has the chance to cap his incredible career by lifting football’s biggest prize, a prospect that appeared unlikely when Argentina lost their Group C opener three weeks ago.

The 35-year-old reflected on that surprise defeat after Tuesday’s victory, saying Argentina channelled their disappointment to rescue their tournament.

“I’d say the first game was a hard blow for all of us because we had been unbeaten in 36 matches. To start it like that was a hard blow,” Messi said in a post-match press conference.

“We didn’t think we’d lose to Saudi. It was an acid test, but we’ve shown how strong we are.

“It was very difficult what we did because every match has been a final and this brings a mental load. We were aware if we didn’t win then everything would be more complicated.

“We’ve played five finals and, luckily enough, been able to win them. I hope this will be the same for the final. Internally we were confident we’d make it as we know what we are capable of.

“Yes, we lost the first match because of fine details, but that helped us to be stronger and to grow in the tournament and internally as a squad.”

Croatia bested Argentina’s rivals Brazil in a tense penalty shoot-out in the previous round, but Messi felt the Albiceleste’s intelligence and willingness to “suffer” was the key against experienced opponents.

“I would say this squad, beyond the collective strengths, is very intelligent and wise, we know how to read the game and every moment,” Messi said.

“It’s something the coach said before, it’s a very intelligent squad. We know when to suffer and when to press. We know how to read the games, we know what to do in every moment, how to win.”

Messi has now recorded eight goal involvements (five goals, three assists) in Qatar, moving ahead of Kylian Mbappe (five goals, two assists) prior to France’s semi-final meeting with Morocco, and he is enjoying every minute of the campaign.

“Well, what I can say is I’m enjoying this a lot, I’m feeling really good, I feel strong enough to face every match,” Messi added.

“The previous game was a big sacrifice, it went to extra time, that wasn’t easy. Today we’re tired, but we pooled our strengths to earn this victory.

“Personally, I can say I feel very happy in this whole World Cup, I’m enjoying it a lot, and luckily I am able to help the whole squad make things happen.”

  • Qatar 2022: Why Croatia lost to Argentina – Kat Stolica

Qatar 2022: Why Croatia lost to Argentina – Kat Stolica

Foremost Croatia football administrator, Kat Stolica has given reason why his country lost to Argentina  in the first semi-final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

TNG reports that Argentina defeated Croatia 3-0 with goals from Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.

However, Stolica said he prefers that Argentina eventually wins the trophy so it will turn out that his team lost to the eventual winner.

Stolica added that Morocco also has what it takes to win the trophy.

“This is hard to watch. We went in already defeated. It feels like we played our final against Brazil. Argentina are not the better team in general but they are the better team on the day. We gave Messi too much respect and didn’t play our own game. Argentina capitalised on our weakness and put us to shame. It’s disappointing that we let the hype beat us before we started. My heart breaks for players like Modric that go out like this.

“I hope Argentina win the finals so we lost to the winner, but my feelings are that Morocco will take out the trophy. Finally, watching my Hrvatska always causes palpitations and today was no different. Bad luck to our boys, I wish it were a different outcome. My heart is always with you Croatia. We are on the map. Now we are left to go about our day with a heavy heart. Long live Croatia!”

A couple of fortunate deflections ensured that he poked the ball home from close range.

Qatar 2022: How Argentina’s goalie kept Messi’s World Cup hope alive

Argentina’s goalkeeper, Emi Martinez on Friday night made two wonderful penalty saves in their quarterfinal encounter against The Netherlands to keep Lionel Messi’s hope of winning the World Cup alive.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Martinez saved penalty kicks from Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis to secure them a 4-3 shootout win over The Netherlands.

Martinez saves gave his side the advantage, with the Albiceleste edging a 4-3 victory in the shoot-out to set up a semi-final showdown with Croatia.

Lautaro Martinez scored the winning penalty kick to secure the win after their World Cup quarter-final match finished 2-2 after 120 minutes of play.

In a scrappy half-hour of extra time with the scores level, Enzo Fernandez rattled the post in the closing seconds. Martinez and German Pezzella also had efforts blocked or parried away as Argentina desperately pushed for a winner.

The Netherlands had rarely troubled Argentina during the match before substitute Wout Weghorst’s header 10 minutes later sparked them into life. He rolled the ball past goalkeeper Emi Martinez deep into stoppage time to send the game into extra time.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi had superbly set up Nahuel Molina for their first-half opener, threading a sublime pass through the Dutch defence. He then coolly slotted in a penalty kick in the 73rd minute after Denzel Dumfries fouled Marcos Acuna.

Argentina will next face Croatia, who beat Brazil earlier in the day on penalty kicks also, on Tuesday for a place in the final.

Qatar 2022: Australia to catch next flight home after losing 2-1 to Argentina

Having overcome a faltering start in their first World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia, an Argentina squad fuelled by a hard-fought victory over Australia in their second round fixture secured a spot in the quarter-final  by bettering the Australian side 2-1  on Saturday.

Australia frustrated Argentina for 35 minutes, sitting deep and compact, allowing no space in behind – Alejandro Gomez’s wild shot that flew way over was the only sniff they had.

Messi then scores his first ever World Cup knockout  goal and the 1000th   career game with a moment of magic to break the deadlock against Australia.

Nicolas Otamendi’s poor touch landed at the feet of the PSG star, and he curled the ball into the far corner with his first shot of the contest to put his side 1-0 up.

Messi has now surpassed Diego Maradona’s World Cup goal with his sublime effort against the Aussies.

Julian Avarez made it 2-0 in the 57th minute of the encounter

Australia pulled one back in the 77th minute but it wasn’t enough to see them through

  • Qatar 2022: Argentina defeat Poland 2-0 to progress to round of 16

Qatar 2022: Argentina defeat Poland 2-0 to progress to round of 16

Argentina booked a passage  to the round of 16 following their 2-0 over European nation Poland.

Argentina began their campaign with a shock 2-1 defeat by the Saudis, before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory over Mexico – with captain Lionel Messi scoring once in each fixture – to put them on three points.

The encounter seemed like it would end in a draw  after first half ended goalless.

However, upon resumption, Brighton midfielder, Molina got to the byline and cut the ball back where Mac Allister was waiting – the 23-year-old didn’t make a clean connection as he swept it with his right foot, but the direction was perfect and just kissed the far post after passing Szczesny.

Again, in the 67th minute, Enzo Fernandez drives at the defence and finds Alvaraz, who takes a touch, swivels and blasts a rocket into the top corner form a cool finish for the Argentina’s second goal.

Argentina go through as Group C winners, while Poland sneak through in second place due to having a better goal difference than Mexico.

They are through and will face Australia in the round of  16.

Meanwhile, in the other group game, Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia by 2-1 but failed to secure qualification based on goal difference.

The Mexicans needed a two goal difference to progress to the next round but could only secure a 2-1 win.
