Int’l Friendly: Messi rates Argentina high after defeating Jamaica

Paris Saint Germain and Argentina forward , Lionel Messi has reacted to his side’s friendly victory over Jamaica on Wednesday.

Argentina defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the early hours of today in a friendly tie in the United States.

A goal from Julian Alvarez and a brace from Messi gave Argentina the win over Jamaica at the Red Bull Arena.

In his post match reaction on Instagram, Messi rates the Argentine national team very high, saying the hope is very high at this point in time.

Argentina have played 35 games without losing a game, the longest in the nations history.

Messi wrote: “We bid farewell to the United States with another triumph and with much hope.”

Argentina’s next friendly tie is against the United Arab Emirates on November 16.

Argentina is in Group C at the World Cup alongside Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia.

The 2022  mundial  will kick start in Qatar  on November 20, it will be the first ever winter world Cup.

Argentina’s VP, Kirchner escapes assassination attempt

Argentina Vice president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner  escaped death by whiskers after a failed assassination attempt.

A gun was pointed at her face but failed to unload as soon as the trigger was pulled twice.

CFK, as popularly known, was outside her residence where supporters gathered to show solidarity as she battles corruption charges.

President Alberto Fernández announced that the gun was loaded with five bullets, but failed to fire.
The culprit a 35 year-old man whose name has been given as Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel has been  arrested and presently cooling off in police cell

A 35-year-old man Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel has been taken into custody.

The suspect, a Brazilian with an Argentine mother, has lived in Argentina since he came to the country in 1993.

Previously arrested in 2021 while carrying a 35cm knife, photos of him show tattoos associated with neo-Nazi groups.

Police found two boxes containing 100 bullets after searching his apartment, investigators informed by La Nación newspaper.

Pope Francis, the Argentine-born head of the Catholic Church, telephoned Fernández de Kirchner after the incident.

She was Argentina’s president from 2007 to 2015, and previously the nation’s First Lady for four years.

  • World Cup 2022: Who are the 10 favourites for this year’s tournament ?

The first-ever winter World Cup in Qatar has hit the headlines for some extremely negative reasons since the country won its bid back in 2018.

While the tournament continues to cause controversy among many people, football fans will at least look forward to a festival of football coming up in November.
From a footballing perspective, there are some fascinating questions to answer: will France retain their crown? Will Messi retire on a high? Will England finally win a trophy?

Here are the ten favourites that will probably provide all the answers.

    Brazil

The pre-tournament favourites are still smarting from their Copa America final defeat to bitter rivals Argentina last year, where a Leo Messi-inspired Albiceleste edged the game with a 1-0 win.

The Brazilians always tend to bounce back, though. The five-time winners have a history of surprising people, and after 20 years without a Jules Rimet trophy win, the likes of Neymar and Everton will be out to prove their critics wrong.

    France

The 2018 world champions had a tough time at Euro 2021, crashing out of the last 16 to Switzerland on penalties.

While the squad is blessed with world-class talent, there are persistent rumours of ego clashes within the dressing room as some of football’s biggest names vie for supremacy.

Didier Deschamps has managed to bring them all together before, of course, which is why experts make France favourites. But there’s always that element of doubt about team morale that dogs Les Bleus at a major tournament.

    England

England’s failures are legendary. Despite having a team packed full of stars who earn monthly salaries the size of lottery jackpots, the English have consistently fallen short on the big stage.

Yet confidence is high after their best showing in years at Euro 2020. Their appearance in the final, following a 2018 World Cup semi-final, has given them big game experience, which they’ll be hoping to use via star men Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

Can they do it? It’s unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

    Argentina

We mentioned Argentina’s stunning Copa America win, and their recent Finalissima win over Italy (where the Latin American champions play their European counterparts) will have boosted their confidence further.

It helps that they have arguably the best player ever in their ranks. Messi’s influence may be waning as he hits his mid-30s, but he still has the ability to turn a game on his head at any point. Just ask Estonia, which conceded five goals to the great Messi in a friendly game early in June.

    Spain

Spain’s golden period may be over, but they still have some dangerous players in their ranks.

Barcelona’s young trio of Gavi, Pedri, and Fati have got the pundits’ tongues wagging, but the likes of Carvajal and Busquets have been there and done that. Old heads will be crucial in a tricky group where they clash with Germany, another big player.

Time will tell if Luis Enrique can bring back the glory days to the Iberian Peninsula.

    Belgium

‘Always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ is an apt expression to describe Belgium and their galaxy of talent.

Frequently ranked as world number one, they are another team which continues to underachieve, despite having the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku in their ranks.

Roberto Martinez has been criticised for poor tactics in past tournaments, so the pressure’s on him to finally deliver glory to Belgium’s golden generation.

    Portugal

Will this be Ronaldo’s last-ever World Cup? Not if he has anything to do with it. The 37-year-old has the physique of a man at least a decade younger, and this will help him in a physically demanding Qatari climate.

Another team with a tricky group, Portugal will need all of their talisman’s experience to get past Uruguay, Ghana, and South Korea, but they’ll also have the talents of Joao Felix and Diogo Jota to count on as they look to win their first World Cup.

    Denmark

Christian Eriksen’s horrific collapse at last year’s Euros seems like a bad dream now, and the midfielder has exceeded everyone’s expectations by coming back to help Brentford stave off relegation.

It’s likely he’ll travel to Qatar, too, where his talents could help Denmark continue their brilliant run of form that has taken them to a Euro semi-final, their best showing since their famous 1992 tournament win.

    Germany

Germany may not be at their best right now but write them off at your peril. New coach Hansi Flick is taking time to bed in new ideas, but a comprehensive defeat of Italy recently suggests that things are coming together.

People will look at stars like Thomas Müller to provide the spark, but it may instead come from the likes of Jamal Musiala who is already making a name for himself in the Bayern Munich side at the tender age of 19.

    Netherlands

Netherlands represents the tournament’s dark horse, with their up-and-down form but capacity to spring a shock, as their 4-1 Nations League win over neighbours Belgium proved.

Marshalled by the colossal Virgil Van Dijk at the back and with the talent of Frenkie De Jong in midfield, the Dutch will fancy their chances in one of the less demanding groups. Win that, and a winnable knockout game against the Group B runners-up (likely to be Wales or USA) awaits them. After that, anything is possible.

  • Tevez announces retirement after losing father

Former Manchester City and Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has announced his retirement.

Tevez has confirmed his retirement after the Argentinian said he could no longer continue playing following the death of his father last year.

Tevez revealed he had turned down offers from the United States to prolong his trophy-laden yet controversial career as he officially brought his time in football to a close at the age of 38.

Tevez said he had stopped playing after ‘losing his number one fan’ – his adopted father, Segundo Raimundo, who died following complications from covid-19 in February 2021.

The Argentinian, who won three Premier League titles, two Scudetti and the Champions League, last played for Boca Juniors before leaving his boyhood club in June last year.

Segundo Raimundo, who adopted the Argentine after his biological father died before he was born, had been fighting for his life for several weeks before his death and had not been given long to live by doctors.

“I have retired, it is confirmed,” he said.

“They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything.

“Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”

  • Messi stars as Argentina beat Italy 3-0 in Finalissima

Lionel Messi stole the show as Copa America holders Argentina powered to a 3-0 win against European champions Italy in the Finalissima at Wembley on Wednesday.

Inspired by the peerless Messi, Argentina raced into a two-goal lead in the first half of the prestigious friendly thanks to strikes from Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria.

Paulo Dybala capped Argentina’s rout, but after a disappointing season with Paris Saint-Germain by his sky-high standards, it was the sight of Messi back to his imperious best that took the spotlight.

    Messi

The 34-year-old’s eye-catching display featured two assists and was worthy of his rare appearance at one of football’s great cathedrals.

It was another memorable moment for Argentina, who have qualified for this year’s World Cup as they extend the golden afterglow from the victory over Brazil that ended their 28-year wait to win the Copa America in 2021.

Argentina were already established as one of the leading contenders to win the World Cup and defeating Italy was another statement of intent from La Albiceleste, who are now unbeaten in 32 matches.

If Messi can play at this level in Qatar, Lionel Scaloni’s side will be a force to be reckoned with as they chase a first World Cup title since 1986.

    Messi

For Italy, it was a disappointing return to Wembley 11 months after they beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final.

Roberto Mancini’s team have gone into a steep decline since that memorable triumph.

They failed to qualify for the World Cup after suffering a humiliating loss to North Macedonia in their play-off semi-final.

Mancini admitted the Finalissima represented the “end of a cycle” for his European champions.

After the World Cup failure, Mancini is transitioning to a younger generation, with the forthcoming Nations League matches against Germany, England and Hungary his real focus.

    Messi

Mancini’s overhaul effectively started at half-time when Italy said farewell to 117-cap skipper Giorgio Chiellini, who was substituted in his final game before international retirement.

    Lionel Messi masterpiece
This was only the third Finalissima contest between the respective champions of Europe and South America and the first since Diego Maradona’s Argentina beat Denmark in 1993.

Fittingly, Messi -the heir to the legendary Maradona -used the occasion to remind the world of his astonishing talents.

The 80,000 sell-out crowd created a colourful backdrop for Messi’s mastery, with Argentina’s raucous fans turning the north London suburb of Brent into Buenos Aires for one ear-splitting evening.

Every touch from Messi lifted the decibel levels and moments after his shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, the forward played a key role as Argentina took the lead in the 28th minute.

Messi worked his magic on the touchline, showing tremendous strength to hold off Giovanni Di Lorenzo before unfurling a precise low cross to Martinez, who applied the finishing touch from close-range.

Italy argued that the goal should have been disallowed for a foul in the build-up, but their protests were in vain.

With tempers still running high, Leonardo Bonucci was booked after leaving Messi writhing in pain with a flailing arm that caught him in the face.

Di Maria exacted revenge on Messi’s behalf in first half stoppage-time.

Martinez drove forward with bullish tenacity and slipped a perfectly weighted pass to Di Maria, with the PSG forward producing a finish to match the approach play as he clipped a cool finish over Donnarumma.

Di Maria almost struck again on the hour, but his curler was brilliantly tipped over by Donnarumma as it fizzed towards the far corner.

Messi robbed Jorginho and embarked on a mesmerising run that finished with a save from Donnarumma.

Messi’s name echoed around the stands as Argentina’s fans paid tribute to their idol’s latest masterpiece.

Dybala’s clinical strike in stoppage-time came via a deft Messi pass as the maestro provided one final flourish.

  • PSG confirm Angel Di Maria departure

PSG confirm Angel Di Maria departure

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Friday confirmed that Angel Di Maria would leave the club upon the expiration of his contract.

Di Maria joined PSG from Manchester United in 2015 and has gone on to enjoy a stellar stint in the French capital.

The former Real Madrid winger has won five Ligue 1 titles, enjoyed as many Coupe de France triumphs and collected four Coupe de la Ligue trophies.

He has not been able to help PSG win the Champions League, though he did get a runners-up medal in 2019/2020.

Di Maria, who scored in a 4-0 rout of Montpellier last week, contributed to 40 goals in his first season at PSG, scoring 15 and providing 25 assists.

In the 2021 Coupe de France final, his pass for a Kylian Mbappe goal saw Di Maria become the player with the most assists in PSG’s history (104).

He has assisted 71 goals in Ligue 1 since his debut in 2015, 27 more than any other PSG player in that time frame, and created 482 chances.

That was way clear of second-ranked Neymar’s tally of 267.

His 55 goals place him fourth, behind Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Mbappe.

Lionel Messi’s arrival last year limited Di Maria’s minutes, with the Argentine featuring 30 times across all competitions in the 2021/2022 campaign and starting 21 of those games.

On Friday, ahead of PSG’s final game of the season against Metz, Di Maria posted a picture of the squad to his official Instagram account with the message: “Gracias. Merci.”

“Angel Di Maria has definitely marked the history of the club,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

“He will be remembered by supporters as a player of impeccable spirit, who showed unwavering commitment to defending our colours.

“I invite the whole Paris Saint-Germain family to meet [Saturday] at the Parc des Princes to pay him the tribute he deserves.”

Reports have suggested that Juventus have lined up a move for Di Maria, who turned 34 in February.

  • Abandoned Brazil, Argentina World Cup qualifier to be played – FIFA

Abandoned Brazil, Argentina World Cup qualifier to be played – FIFA

Global football governing body FIFA confirmed on Monday that the abandoned 2022 World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina will be replayed next month.

“The FIFA Appeal Committee has taken decisions on the appeals lodged by the Brazilian Football Association (CBF) and the Argentinian Football Association (AFA),” a statement said.

“After analysing the submissions of both parties and considering all circumstances of the case, the Appeal Committee confirmed that the match would be replayed.

”It also upheld the fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (50,200 dollars) that was imposed on both associations as a result of the abandonment.”

The match in Sao Paolo on Sept. 5, 2021, was abandoned after only few minutes.

Brazilian health authorities had insisted that some Argentina players had entered the country in breach of then coronavirus regulations.

FIFA did reduce a 250,000 Swiss franc fine for Brazil “with respect to infringements related to order and security”.

It also cut a 100,000 franc fine imposed on the AFA for “its failure to comply with its obligations in relation to the preparation of and its participation in the match.”

Brazil finished top in the South American qualifying competition for the World Cup in Qatar later this year with Argentina second.

That order will not change, regardless of the outcome of the June 11 replay.

  • Messi will never reach my father’s level – Maradona Jr

Messi will never reach my father’s level – Maradona Jr

Diego Maradona Jr believes Paris Saint-Germain star, Lionel Messi will never reach his father’s level in football history.

He insists there are no comparisons between his father and Messi.

Both played for Barcelona and the comparison is one that has been made frequently, particularly in their home country of Argentina.

“I have a huge appreciation for him [referring to Messi], I think he is the best of his time, not the best ever,” Diego Jr told Radio del Plata.

“I think that nobody will ever reach my father.”

That doesn’t mean that he isn’t a fan of Messi, and he spoke positively of his achievements.

“I was very happy when he managed to win the Copa America with the national team, so many people shut their mouths,” he continued.

“We are difficult because we had Messi and for a lot of years we didn’t know how to enjoy him.

“My old man is above everyone else. Messi is the best in the history of humans, my old man wasn’t human playing football.”

Argentina coach confirms Sergio Aguero going to World Cup

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will be with the Argentina squad at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

TheNewsGuru reports that Aguero was forced into retirement while with Barcelona due to heart problems earlier this season.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni announced: “The news about Sergio is obviously very well received here.

“I’ve talked to him and to the president of the Argentine Football Federation.

“It is very important that his role is clearly defined. We do not want him to come just to do anything.”

  • 2021 Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi advised to quit PSG

2021 Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi advised to quit PSG

Former France International and PSG winger Jerome Rothen, has advised Argentine Forward and 2021 Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi not to consider staying at PSG.

Rothen told Lionel Messi to leave the French Ligue 1 giants once the summer transfer window opens.

Rothen believes Messi’s love story with PSG was not meant to be.

Messi joined PSG from Barcelona last summer after the Catalan club failed to renew his contract due to La Liga regulations.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has been heavily criticized for his performances for PSG so far this season.

The 34-year-old is currently away on international duty in Argentina.

However, a change in the atmosphere is not going to do Messi, who was recently booed by PSG fans, any good, according to Rothen.

“Will his ten days with Argentina make the rest of the season better with PSG? I’m sceptical. His love story with PSG wasn’t meant to be.

“For everyone’s benefit, I think he should leave in June. This is my opinion.” Rothen said.

Lionel Messi is in the camp of Argentina and expected to be fielded for Qatar 2022 qualification games against Venezuela and Ecuador.
