Court orders arrest of ex-Custom boss Dikko

A Federal High Court has ordered the arrest of former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Inde Dikko over his continued failure to attend court to answer to a charge of fraud brought against him and two others by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

The presiding judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, noted that his lawyer, Solomon Akuma (SAN) who, on the last adjourned date, promised to ensure that his client attends court today, only turned around to present a medical report, claiming Dikko was critically ill and on admission in London.

Justice Ojukwu stated that Dikko’s address, as shown on the medical report – No: N6 Amhed Musa Crescent Jabi, Abuja – did not support his lawyer’s claim that Dikko was on admission in a London hospital.

The judge however noted that should the prosecution, in executing the bench warrant discovers that Dikko is actually on admission in a London hospital, the execution shall be suspended.

The judge added that otherwise, the prosecution should arrest Dikko and produce him in court on March 16, 2020, which is the next adjourned date for arraignment.

The warrant read; ”In the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/21/2019, Dikko is named with two others – a former Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Garba Makarfi and Umar Hussaini, a lawyer, and owner of Capital Law firm – as defendants.

Dikko, Makarfi, and Hussaini are, among others, accused of inducing the Managing Director of Cambial Limited, Yemi Obadeyi, to pay N1.1 billion (N1,100, 952,380.96) into the account of Capital Law Office as a refundable “completion security deposit” for the purchase of 120 units of duplexes as residential accommodation for officers of the Nigeria Customs Service”.

Hussaini was said to have distributed the money into various other bank accounts and for his part in the deal, he was rewarded with the sum of $3 million.

Zuma, president from 2009-2018, had previously applied for a permanent stay of prosecution on 18 charges of fraud, racketeering and money laundering relating to the deal, but the court in Pietermaritzburg threw out his appeal in November.

Zuma is accused of accepting 500,000 rand (34,000 dollars ) annually from Thales in 1999, in exchange for protecting the company from an investigation into the deal.

He rejects the allegations as a politically motivated witch-hunt against him.

BREAKING: Obaseki writes IG, DSS, demands Oshiomhole’s arrest, prosecution

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has written to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to seek the immediate arrest and prosecution of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole over fueling of political violence in the state.

The Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, who made this known to journalists in Abuja , on Monday, said a copy of the petition would also be sent to the Department of State Services.

Shuaibu accused the APC’s national chairman of fuelling violence in the state by serially going against the state government order banning political rally in the state.

”I am in Abuja to meet with the IG. I have a petition to the IG and the Director of DSS to the effect that Mr Oshiomhole be arrested by the police and DSS for the breakdown of law and order, that he has consistently perpetrated in Edo state.

“We banned rallies, the IG in a letter also suspended rallies. Oshiomhole disobeyed the orders of the state government. He disobeyed the orders of the IG and feels that he is above the law.

“For us, we have officially come now to drop our petition with the IG, to the effect that Oshiomhole is not above the law; he should be arrested for violating the state government’s order,” Shuaibu said.

He said that nobody violated Oshiomhole’s orders when he was a governor.

  • Court orders arrest of ex-Minister Etete, two others over $1.09b Malabu Oil deal

Court orders arrest of ex-Minister Etete, two others over $1.09b Malabu Oil deal

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Gwagwalada, Abuja has ordered the arrest of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dauzia Loya (Dan) Etete and two others.

Also to be arrested are Munamuna Seidougha and Amaran Joseph.

Justice Abubakar Kutigi gave the orders on Thursday in a ruling on an ex-parte motion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Kutigi said: “I have carefully gone through the application…The application has merit and is granted as prayed.”

The EFCC said the three are being wanted in relation to a pending charge linking them with the $1.09billion Malabu Oil Block (OPL 245) Settlement Agreement.

Earlier while moving the motion, EFCC’s lawyer, Bala Sanga, told the court that the exparte application was filed on January 28 and supported by an 8-paragraph affidavit deposed to by one Ibrahim Ahmed and attached with one exhibit.

Sanga explained:“The kernel of the ex-parte application is that names of the respondents in the criminal charge CR/151/2020 were mentioned in count 14-42 of the charge and where indicated to be at large.”

He added that in order for the respondents to be brought before the court to enter their pleas, we will be requesting for an order of warrant for their arrest.

“Intelligence suggests they reside in France and occasionally at some African countries and to be able to get the support of the international police, the warrant of arrest would be needed,” Sanga said.

The EFCC alleged, in court documents, that Rasky Gbinigie (who is currently on trial before the court), Munamuna Seidougha (at large), Amaran Joseph sometime in 2013, in Abuja “dishonestly used as genuine the forged form CAC 7 and Board Resolution of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited and the letter of resignation of one Mohammed Sani, which they then knew to be forged documents, to open a bank account No. 2018288005 to receive $401,540,000.00 .

It also said Rasky Gbinigie, Munamuna Seidougha (at large), Amaran Joseph (at large) and Dauzia Loya Etete (at large), sometime in 2013, in Abuja, “dishonestly used as genuine the forged form CAC 7 and Board Resolution of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited and the letter of resignation of one Mohammed Sani, which they then knew to be forged, documents to open a Bank Account No. 3610042472 to receive $400,540,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand United States Dollars).

In an affidavit it filed with the ex-parte motion, the EFCC stated the Etete, Seidougha and Joseph “are part of the brains behind Malabu Oil and Gas Limited.

“Malabu Oil and Gas Limited are defendants in the current Charge No: CR/151/2020 and facing multiple counts of charges for forgery and use of forged documents.

“As part of the directing minds of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, they (Etete, Seidougha and Joseph) should stand trial and answer to charges of influencing and aiding the companies to breach extant criminal laws.

“Part of the requirements for the arrest and extradition of the respondents from Europe or indeed from any part of the world is the issuance of a warrant of arrest by this honourable court. It will serve the interest of justice to grant this application.”

Trending: Nigerians react over alleged arrest of Bobrisky (Video)

The Nigerian Twittersphere has been set abuzz following earlier claims that Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, controversial internet personality and cross-dresser also known as Bobrisky, has been arrested.

According to social media speculations, Bobrisky was arrested last night at his residence at Chevron Drive, Lekki Lagos and whisked away to an unknown destination.

It was speculated that his arrest is linked to his “cross-dressing” activities, although this hasn’t been verified. One of the officers was also quoted as saying “we will turn him back to a guy.”

Some social media users speculated that the officers who arrested him, brought him back on Thursday morning to move all his cars.

His close allies, Tonto Dikeh and Anita Joseph are yet to react to news of his alleged arrest.

TheNewsGuru recalls that weeks back Bobrisky boasted that he remains the only known cross-dresser in the country.

The Snapchat celebrity disclosed this on his social media page, in what appeared to be a thinly-veiled dig at other upcoming cross-dressers.

He said those emulating him can only try their luck, hinting that his “crown is for no one”.

In a short video clip posted on his page, Bobrisky was seen bringing out packs of cash inside a black polythene bag and handing them to someone he addressed as “senator.”

“Senator girlfriend…… Did I hear there is another upcoming Bobrisky ? You go hustle tire. My crown is for no one,” he wrote on her Instagram.

  • Alleged Extortion: EFCC speaks on Buhari’s ‘involvement’ in Shehu Sani’s arrest

Alleged Extortion: EFCC speaks on Buhari’s ‘involvement’ in Shehu Sani’s arrest

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says insinuations and phantom claims that the Commission is “prosecuting” Senator Shehu Sani, because he is a known critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, are fallacies.

The commission, in a statement, said Sani is currently facing criminal investigation, and that he was being detained by the EFCC in very conducive environment, based on a valid court order.

“”Invariably, claims in some quarters of the breach of his fundamental human rights, is merely in the imagination of the purveyors of such claims.

“Let it be stated clearly, that Senator Shehu Sani has questions to answer as regards the alleged involvement in name-dropping, and particularly that he obtained $25,000 from Alhaji Sani Dauda, the ASD Motors boss, in order to help shield him from investigations being carried out by the EFCC.

“For certain people to brazenly come out to defend a suspect, who is being probed for a serious offence as the one committed by Sani shows that they are not really conversant with his offence.

“It is unfortunate that certain people are ready to do anything to support evil for pecuniary gains. This is quite unfortunate,” the commission said.

  • Presidency accuses Sowore of stage-managing rearrest in Court

The social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie has described the attempted arrest of RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore inside the courtroom by the Department of State Service on Friday as a stage-managed drama.

The presidential aide accused Sowore of acting up the drama of being arrested inside the courtroom with his followers in order to blackmail government agents and attract sympathy from members of the public.

Onochie made this allegation in a post on her Facebook page on Saturday, insisting that the DSS never entered inside the courtroom.

She said “blackmailing government enforcement agencies was how our nation went into decay. It wont work this time”.

She narrated what she claimed was a friend’s eyewitness account of what really transpired in court on Friday.

    See her post below:

WHO DRAMA EPP? EVERY LIE WILL EXPIRE.
    COURTROOM DRAMA EXPLAINED.

? So it was a stage managed drama in the court yesterday; Sowore pinned down by his supporters in a courtroom in order to give DSS a bad name.

? There was no gun. No batton. No pinning down. Just plain drama, planned and staged by his boys and girls. Kudos, but every lie has an expiration date.

? Many EYEWITNESSES have said DSS was OUTSIDE the courtroom, not inside the courtroom.

? Here’s one more eyewitness account as reported by Adeniyi Adegbomire SAN-

? A friend of mine, Wale Fapohunda, who was in court today when Sowore’s re-arrest was purportedly effected inside the courtroom has this to say about the incident ??:

? “Okay, so I was in court today and here is what happened.

? The court had adjourned his matter till 11th Feb next year.

? The court called the next matter and proceeding had commenced in respect of the next matter.

? Sowore stepped OUT OF THE COURT ROOM and suddenly we heard noises coming from the corridor “leave me alone” “they want to kill me” “they want to kill Sowore” and all that.

? Suddenly Sowore’s people started dragging him with the DSS and they (Sowores team) dragged him into the court room.

? The judge seeing this, rose and went to her chambers.

? The DSS didn’t enter the court room to arrest him rather his supporters dragged him in with the DSS official.

? Nobody chased the judge out, she rose and went to her chambers on seeing squabbles.

? The DSS official left the court room and waited for him outside the court.

? Thank you all. Behold my eye witness account”.

? Blackmailing government enforcement agencies was how our nation went into decay. It wont work this time. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

? It appears everyone in that drama was part of the drama club. They harassed a Court officer who wanted them out as they were disrupting another court case. A Lawyer who looked bemused with the whole drama was lost for words.

? Drama has not helped Dino Melaye. It has not helped Olise Metuh. Drama has not helped Orji Uzo Kalu.

? Drama will not help Sowore because Once you dramatise a lie to the members of the public to attract sympathy, you lose all of that sympathy when they find out you have misled them.

? I’m also of the opinion that the police look into these videos, (I have watched four) and charge those who deliberately misled the general public on this issue.

    ? God bless Nigeria.
    Lauretta Onochie.
