  • Police arrest soldier who worked for Evans, got N6.5m

The Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested a soldier in Lagos for allegedly being part of the gang of the notorious kidnapper, Chukwudi Onuwamadike, alias Evans.

A police source, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, said that the team led by ACP Abba Kyari arrested the soldier after weeks of surveillance.

The source said that the soldier, a Lance Corporal, was arrested on Friday at about 9 p.m in Ojo area of Lagos.

The source, however, said that police detectives in a follow-up to the confession made by Evans, led to the arrest of the soldier who was a member of the army band at Abalti Barrack, Surulere.

It said that the kidnap kingpin had told policemen during interrogation that some notable people collaborated with him in his operations for seven years.

The source said the soldier in his confessional statement, said he had accompanied Evans in three different kidnap operations in Lagos, and got N2 million, N1.5 million and N3 million respectively as his shares.

“There are serious efforts to apprehend other gang members and efforts will be made to arrest of others,’’ the source said.

NAN reports that the billionaire kidnapper was arrested on June 10 after being hunted by police for seven years at his Magodo Estate mansion in Lagos.

He told the police during interrogation that some yet to be known notable people collaborated with him during his operations.

CSP Mosheed Jimoh, the Force Spokesman, had promised while parading the kidnap that every name mentioned by the gang members would be arrested, no matter how highly placed.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police ,Lagos State in charge of Administration, Dansuki Galadanchi, had denied media report that the command released one Emeka, who gave out his boss Evans and his gang members.

Galadanchi said that after Emeka’s boss, Chief Donatus Duru escaped from the kidnappers’ detention camp in Igando, the suspect was arrested and charged to Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court 2 and was remanded in prison afterwards.

“It came as a surprise to the police, when a television station reported that the suspect escaped from the police custody.

“Emeka was never in our custody, we charged him to court immediately we arrested him, how come they now said we allowed him to escape from our custody, that is not true,” he said.

For instance, on June 9, 2017, the trio of Dondo Orsaa, Terhile Mbaloha and Teryima Ihiambe (aka Clark) were apprehended at various locations within Katsina-Ala LGA, Benue State for their sustenance of kidnap operations across Benue and Taraba States.

During the operation, one AK-47 rifle, a 9mm Pistol, Ammunition and complete set of Army uniform were recovered from ORSAA. Relatedly, on 10thApril, 2017, one Terna Sapko, an informant to the Akwaza syndicate was arrested around the Army Barracks in Takum, Taraba State.

The Service on June 9, 2017 in Aviele, Etsako West LGA of Edo State arrested 15 kidnap suspects led by Lance Corporal Samaila MADU, a dismissed soldier.

Another member of the gang, Ibrahim Topa sustained gunshot injury on his left leg while trying to escape. Similarly, in Ebonyi State, one Chinonso Onwe (a.k.a Abino Flash) was arrested at Izhia Community, Ohaukwu LGA “on June 1, 2017, by the Service in collaboration with the Community’s Security Council for Armed Robbery and Kidnapping. He was identified to be a member of the confraternity.

During his arrest, two locally made pistols and a pair of Nigerian Army fatigue were among items recovered from him.

    Falgore Forest Criminals:

“Prior to those arrests, the Service on May 11, 2017, in collaboration with the Military, at the Kano State stretch of the Falgore Forest, arrested five suspected Kidnappers/Cattle rustlers namely – Sani HASSAN (aka Ashana); Suleiman Abdullahi (aka Dogo Sule); Bashiru Abdullahi (aka Lamo); Amadu Abdullahi (aka Mallam); and Auwalu Sanda (aka Maitaru).

Though Isah BAKI, leader of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds, three of his members namely: Hassan Abdullahi (22 years), Abubakar Abdullahi (27 years) and Suleiman Abdullahi (30 years) were arrested.

Two AK-47 rifles and nine live ammunitions were recovered from the suspects who are currently being interrogated.

    Abdulhamid Isiaka:

Committed to the effort aimed at achieving a terror free country, the Service sustained its counter terrorism/insurgency operations. • BREAKING: El-Rufai orders arrest of youths who ordered Igbos out of region

BREAKING: El-Rufai orders arrest of youths who ordered Igbos out of region

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has ordered the immediate arrest of all the signatory to the ‘Kaduna Declaration’ mandating all Igbos to leave the region before October 1.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that prominent Northern youth associations on Tuesday after a joint meeting tagged ‘Kaduna Declaration’ issued a serious threat to Igbos residing in the region to vacate on or before October 1 (Nigeria’s Independence Day) 2017 or face physical attacks.

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai strongly condemned, “the inciting, hate speech delivered by some self-appointed ‘northern youths.”

El-Rufai said, ”the Kaduna State Government has directed that its Ministry of Justice should prepare charges and prosecute the signatories and anyone complicit in arranging this egregious assault on the rights of fellow citizens.”

The Governor condemned the action of the groups, and assured every resident of the state that, “nobody can tamper with their freedom to reside where they choose.”

The full statement reads: “The Kaduna State Government condemns in the strongest terms the press statement by some self-appointed “northern youths” that threatened the safety and property of our citizens of Igbo extraction. Government assures every resident of our state that their constitutional and human rights to live peacefully and own property wherever they choose is sacrosanct. Even people who may feel unhappy about irresponsible comments or actions that have taken place in other states must know that two wrongs cannot make a right.

“The Kaduna State Government believes in and will uphold the right of every Nigerian to live safely and develop his/her full potentials within its territory.

“Reckless disregard for the rights of other citizens drips through the press statement by these “northern youths” who have chosen to use the discourse around restructuring to promote their own agenda of hate, division and incitement. This sort of opportunists cannot be allowed to distort debate, or turn it into a pretext for a barely-disguised agenda of displacement and dispossession of some citizens.

“We will not tolerate such irresponsible statements and conduct in our state. The statement issued by the “northern youths” violates the laws of Kaduna State. Therefore, the Kaduna State Government has directed that its Ministry of Justice should prepare charges and prosecute the signatories and anyone complicit in arranging this egregious assault on the rights of fellow citizens.

“Preparatory to prosecution, the police have been directed to immediately arrest, interrogate the signatories to the statement and investigate all the circumstances and persons that may be implicated in the matter.

“The Kaduna State Government urges all residents to ignore the threats from the “northern youths”. We are in contact with the leadership of the Igbo community in Kaduna, and we delighted to say that this community, like all our other communities, believes in the strength of the constitutional order to protect all citizens.

“KDSG wishes to encourage all our people to celebrate the diversity with which the Almighty has blessed us, to continue to shun agents of division, and to stand firm in upholding a common humanity. Everyone has a right to live in peace and harmony.”
