  • Suarez sends message to Arsenal after EPL debut

Arsenal new signing, Denis Suarez has urged the team to “go for it” after he made his Gunners debut in Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City.

Suarez, who started his career at City, joined Arsenal last week from Barcelona on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.

The Spanish midfielder started the game at the Etihad Stadium on the bench but came on with 25 minutes to go and the Gunners already trailing 3-1 thanks to Sergio Aguero’s 10th Premier League hat-trick.

He was unable to turn the tide in Arsenal’s favour as the Gunners slumped to a third defeat in their last five games in all competitions.

However, after the game Suarez took to social media to issue a rallying cry to his new club’s supporters.

Suarez wrote: “Today I returned to Manchester to make my debut in the Premier League and I was eager and happy to start this great challenge.

“The score wasn’t good but this has just started. Let’s go for it, C’mon Gunners!”

Arsenal slipped down to sixth in the Premier League table on the weekend as Chelsea and Manchester United both won their matches.

Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez.

The Spaniard, 25, will join the Gunners on loan until the end of the season, with a purchase option in the summer.

Suarez has played 71 times for Barcelona since joining in 2013 but has only featured eight times this season.

On Tuesday, Barcelona announced Suarez would not be in their squad for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg against Sevilla while the player “looks to resolve his future”.

Reports in Spain suggest that, as a compromise, Suarez agreed to extend his current contract – which expires in June 2020 – in order to protect his value to Barcelona and encourage them to allow him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Cardiff lose to Arsenal on emotional night at Emirates

Cardiff succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in their first game since the tragic disappearance of Emiliano Sala.

Second-half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette overcame a valiant display from Neil Warnock’s side on a sombre night at Emirates Stadium.

Tributes were paid to Cardiff’s club-record signing ahead of kick-off, and the Bluebirds fittingly had the final word as substitute Nathaniel Mendez-Laing struck, even if it was in vain.

The defeat leaves Cardiff three points from safety in the relegation zone, Arsenal stay fifth in the Premier League by move level on points with fourth-place Chelsea, who play Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Transfer news: Arsenal could sign two players – Emery

Arsenal Manager Unai Emery has said his club could recruit up to two players before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The Arsenal boss has previously stated his preference for loan deals in January for players who can improve his squad.

Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic handed in a transfer request at Inter Milan after Arsenal had a loan offer rejected for the winger, while Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has also been linked.

Emery, who would not be drawn on specific names, said, “This transfer (window) is not easy and the message is the club is working on different players and the possibility if it can be is good for us.

“We are looking at two different players and the possibility they can come. If they aren’t coming to help us like we want, I prefer they don’t come.”

  • Arsenal target Perisic hands in transfer request to leave Inter

Arsenal target Ivan Perisic has handed in a transfer request to Inter Milan, according to the club’s director Giuseppe Marotta.

The winger, 29, was an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 Serie A defeat at Torino on Sunday.

Before the game, Marotta told Sky Sports Italia: “Perisic has asked to leave but there is no offer for him. We will see in the coming days.”

Premier League side Arsenal want to sign the Croatian on loan.

“Many players ask for a transfer,” added Marotta. “Perisic has expressed this desire, we must try to satisfy him, respecting the asset value that the player has for the club.”

  • Giggs backs Ramsey’s move to Juve, says he’ll improve

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has backed fellow welsh man Aaron Ramsey to join Serie A giant Juventus from Arsenal.

Wales boss, Giggs feels Ramsey will improve as a player by moving to Turin to play alongside with top class players like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ramsey is set to end his long spell with Arsenal at the end of the season after agreeing pre-contract agreement with Juventus for next season.

The 28-year-old has been with Arsenal since 2008 and has made over 300 appearances for the club.

When asked if the move abroad will benefit one of his key players for the national team.

“I hope so. You’ve seen the effect it’s had on Gareth Bale. He’s going to a top-class football club, one of the best in the world. That will improve you as a player, Giggs told Sky Sports

“When you’re an international coach, all you want is your players playing and he’ll be playing at the highest level.”

  • EPL: Arsenal hit with major injury blow

Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin will be out for remainder of the season after sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury in Saturday’s 2-0 English Premier League win over Chelsea.

Bellerin, who was making his first start after returning from a calf injury, went down clutching his knee while challenging for the ball in the second half.

He was then carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

The injury to the 23-year-old Spaniard is another blow to manager Unai Emery.

He has already lost defender Rob Holding for the rest of the season to a similar knee problem last month.

The Spanish coach said he had players to fill in for Bellerin and was unlikely to dip into the transfer market to sign a replacement.

He had previously said he could only take players on loan in the January transfer window.

“We have Ainsley (Maitland-Niles). He can help us by playing like a right back or a right winger. And also, (Stephan) Lichtsteiner is another player,” Emery said.

“I don’t forget (Carl) Jenkinson… he played some matches and if we need (him), he is okay to help us.”

Arsenal next host Manchester United in an FA Cup fourth round tie on Friday, before returning to English Premier League action against Cardiff City at home on Jan. 29.

EPL: Luiz reveals who to blame for Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal

Chelsea defender, David Luiz has blamed Maurizio Sarri’s men following the Blues’ 2-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny gave Unai Emery’s side all three points against Chelsea at the Emirates.

The Brazilian blamed Chelsea players for not converting their chances in front of goal against the hosts.

Speaking on Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, Luiz was quoted by Independent UK as saying at post-match: “The first 25 minutes we did not perform well, after that to control a team like Arsenal here with possession is never easy, especially in the second half we did that.

“But then after that possession and being more dangerous is two different things, so I think we had the possession but we still have to be more dangerous.”

Luiz also identified the creation and conversion of chances as areas in which Chelsea “have to improve”, adding that: “When I say that I am not talking about the strikers, I am talking about the whole team.

“The offensive phase starts with goalkeeper (Kepa Arrizabalaga), and then with us the defenders, with everybody are to blame.”

Luiz will now hope to lead Chelsea to victory when they tackle Bournemouth on Wednesday in their next Premier League fixture.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri launched a scathing attack on his players after they laboured to a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League.

Sarri, who spoke angrily in Italian during his press conference to properly execute his message, accused his squad of being ‘extremely difficult to motivate’.

First-half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny allowed the Gunners to move within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea, who have failed to find their rhythm in 2019.

The Italian insists the mentality of his players must improve, hinting at personnel changes before the January transfer window is over.
