EPL: Jesus blamed for being inconsistent

Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus has been singled out for criticisms by former coach Arsene Wenger.

According to Wenger, the Brazilian international needs to become more consistent before he can be considered a top player.

Recall that Jesus completed a move from Manchester City to Arsenal in 2022.

The 26-year-old was keen to fill the void left by the departure of strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette that summer.

So far, the striker has  only managed just 11 league goals in all competitions across his debut campaign for the Gunners. This season, Jesus has netted just four times in the Premier League and has also missed some matches due to injury.

While having a chat with former player, Freddie Ljungberg for Viaplay Sports Wenger heaped so much blame on Jesus saying he hasn’t lived up to expectations.

His words “They have no Thierry Henry at the moment because I think Gabriel Jesus is injured a lot.

“There are more goals in him than what you see at the moment. What the top, top player doesn’t tolerate is [being] in and out.

“The guys who make history are the guys who are consistently there. Ronaldo and Messi, they play for 15 years, 50 to 60 games per year.”

It would be recalled that the Nigeria international has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Osimhen signed a new contract last December which includes a hefty release clause.

According to Calciomercato.com, the striker has already set up the foundations of a transfer in the summer, having tasked his agent Roberto Calenda with securing a high-profile move away from Napoli.

The 25-year-old has shined in Serie A this season despite the chaos at Napoli.

He has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 18 league appearances for the Partenopei.

EPL: Arsenal still have advantage over Liverpool – Gabriel Jesus reveals

Arsenal Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus has revealed that the Gunners have an advantage of good goal difference over Liverpool amid the Premier League title race this season.

After last weekend’s match-day 29, Liverpool rose to the top the Premier League table with two points ahead of Arsenal, who sit in second place.

The Reds are also ahead of Manchester City (third position) with three points.

However, with nine games to go for the season finale, Jesus is confident about Arsenal’s title chances, believing things can change again in the standings going forward.

“It is the Premier League, it is a tough league and anything can happen.

“It is only two points, the difference [with Liverpool], and then we have a very good goal difference,” Jesus said, via Metro UK.

EPL: Haaland reacts after Man City’s draw against Arsenal

Manchester City goal poacher, Erling Haaland, has said that his team can still win the English Premier League (EPL) title in spite of their goalless draw with title contenders Arsenal on Sunday.

The encounter which took place at the Etihad Stadium saw Manchester City and Arsenal handing Liverpool the advantage in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool are now top of the table, two points clear of Arsenal and three ahead of City, after they came from behind to beat Brighton at Anfield.

It was a delight for Liverpool seeing their two closest rivals cancelling each other out.

But Haaland took to his Instagram page after the game against Arsenal to confidently claim that City can come from behind to win the title, just like they did last season.

“We’ve done it once, we can do it again,” he wrote!

The Norway international is undoubtedly the best striker in the Premier League and perhaps in the world.

He has scored 29 goals with six assists in 35 games, which is a phenomenal return.

However, against William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes on Sunday, Haaland struggled and had zero shots on target.

It was a poor performance that Roy Keane even compared him to a League Two striker.

The draw against Arsenal means Manchester City are still third in the Premier League table and are now three points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have a better goal difference as well, which makes them the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

EPL: Roy Keane reverses self, names new title favourite

Former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane has reversed himself, saying that Liverpool are now the favourites to dethrone Manchester City, after the Premier League champions played out a 0-0 with Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday.

The Reds were in second position before Sunday’s encounter against Brighton but Diaz and Salah’s goals helped Liverpool climb to the first position on the log.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Arsenal played out a goalless draw to settle for second and third respectively.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will head into their next fixture with a two-point lead at the summit.

With just nine games remaining, Keane has said that they were the big winners of the day.

He said on Sky Sports: “Liverpool are the real winners of today, obviously winning and watching these two teams draw.

    “Liverpool will be delighted.

“You’re looking at the table now and thinking Liverpool will be favourites for it, but with the amount of quality on the pitch that is why we’re disappointed [with the Man City/Arsenal game].”

EPL: Haaland fires blanks as City, Arsenal share spoils at Etihad

English Premier League Highest goal scorer, Erling Haaland fired blanks as Manchester city played out a goalless draw against visiting Arsenal Football club at the Etihad.

Both teams tried to score but to no avail with Arsenal being defensive minded for the most part of the thrilling encounter.

Nathan Ake’s effort early in the encounter was saved by Arsenal keeper David Raya before going off injured while former City striker, Gabriel Jesus posed an occasional threat, just failing to connect with Bukayo Saka’s cross inches from goal after the break.

The introduction of Jack Grealish and Jemy Doku on the City side and Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey on the Gunners side had little spark into the game in the second 45 minutes.

City posed some threats in the closing stages of the game but met a stiff defense on the side of the Gunners.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta will be happier than City counterpart Pep Guardiola with this outcome – but the real winners were Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.

Liverpool are now top of the table, two points clear of Arsenal and three ahead of City, after they came from behind to beat Brighton at Anfield, their delight increased by their two closest rivals cancelling each other out.

EPL: Manchester City hit by injury ahead clash with Arsenal

Manuel Akanji is a doubt for Manchester City in  the upcoming top of the table clash against Arsenal this weekend after picking up an injury while on international duty with Switzerland.

The 28-year-old  defender could miss his country’s friendly against Ireland due to the knock, which leaves him at risk of missing Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal at the Etihad.

The Switzerland player has started in the last 16 matches for his country and has played pivotal role for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, featuring in 19 of Man City’s 28 league matches since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

This setback comes just days after Kyle Walker was forced off playing for England in Saturday night’s friendly 1-0 defeat against Brazil due to a hamstring injury.

It remains to be seen if Akanji will recover in time for the crucial clash against Arsenal this weekend.
