EPL: Arsenal target Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in blockbuster £42.5m transfer

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of securing Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in a major £42.5 million swap deal.

According to Sportitalia, the Gunners have offered €50 million (around £42.5 million) and are willing to include defender Jakub Kiwior as part of the transaction. Including Kiwior in the deal could potentially lower the transfer fee.

The Polish defender, who was absent from Mikel Arteta’s squad for Arsenal’s season-opening victory over Wolves, is expected to depart North London soon, regardless of whether he joins Atalanta.

Lookman has drawn significant interest following his outstanding performance in the Europa League final, where he netted a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 26-year-old winger has also attracted attention from PSG and several Saudi Pro League clubs this summer.

Reflecting on his recent success, Lookman said after the Europa League final, “Over the past few years, I’ve been able to elevate my game on a more consistent basis. Maybe it could have happened earlier, but I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made now.

This is just the beginning, and I’m aiming for more nights like this, to keep improving. That’s the key.”

EPL: Salah sets record as Liverpool beat Ipswich, Arsenal defeat Wolves in season opener

Arsenal began their Premier League campaign with a comfortable win over Wolves at Emirates Stadium.

Kai Havertz headed in the opener from a Bukayo Saka cross in the first half. Saka then added a second with a powerful left-foot shot into the right corner after a quickly taken free-kick.

Despite not being at their best, Arsenal controlled the match and deserved their victory.

Wolves debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen had his header saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, while Matheus Cunha missed a crucial chance in the second half.

Elsewhere, Liverpool started their season with a hard-fought win over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Diogo Jota scored the first goal after a slick move involving Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Salah then doubled the lead five minutes later, setting a Premier League record with his ninth opening-day goal.

Ipswich put up a strong fight in the first half but couldn’t match Liverpool’s intensity after the break.

In another EPL opening day game, Newcastle secured a gritty 1-0 victory over Southampton, despite being reduced to 10 men.

Joelinton scored the only goal after a mistake by Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. The match saw tempers flare, especially after Fabian Schar was sent off for an altercation with Ben Brereton Diaz. Southampton, despite having 19 shots, couldn’t find an equalizer.

Similarly, Brighton’s new manager, Fabian Hurzeler, celebrated an impressive win in his Premier League debut, as Everton started their final season at Goodison Park in dismal fashion. Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck, and Simon Adingra scored for Brighton, while Everton had a goal disallowed and a penalty overturned. Ashley Young was sent off for Everton in a frustrating match that ended 3-0 in Brighton’s favor.

Brighton have gone up to the top of the log pending the outcome of the other remaining games of Match day one.

“I speak to Mikel sometimes,” Wenger stated to the Daily Mail about his former player in an interview at the Olympic Gala Of Champions.

“I believe in life, you have to do as well as you can and give it all when you are somewhere in a place and after, when it’s finished, take a distance and let other people move.

“And that’s what I do. And I think you want to leave the place well in a good position where you can do, continue to do well and do even better. And that’s all you can do.”

Transfers: New report says Osimhen headed to North London

A new report about Victor Osimhen’s deal has it that the Nigerian forward is poised to join Arsenal FC and not Chelsea.

Recall that Osimhen has already reached an agreement with Napoli to leave the club this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli have reduced his price tag from a whopping £109 million to £86 million but many suitors still find it on the high side.

Corriere dello Sport reports that the Emirates is Osimhen’s most favored destination via The Boot Room, and not Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen was said to be moving to PSG with Kylian Mbappe having exited Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side are looking for an out-and-out number nine

The Gunners could also turn to their Brazilian frontman, Gabriel Jesus, who lost his starting spot to his German teammate towards the backend of the previous season.

Amid these circumstances, the north Londoners would love to have a big, imposing striker, such as Osimhen.
