EPL: Aubameyang left out of third consecutive Arsenal match

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang faces longer on the sidelines.

Aubameyang has been stripped of the armband and left out of the last two Premier League games, the club having taken stern disciplinary action after the Gabon forward reportedly returned late from a trip abroad to visit his ill mother.

Alexandre Lacazette captained the side as the Gunners beat West Ham on Wednesday night to move back up into the top four.

Arteta confirmed Aubameyang would also not be considered for Saturday’s trip to Leeds as speculation continues over whether the 32-year-old has played his last game for the club.

“For this game, he is not available for selection,” the Arsenal boss said.

Asked what Aubameyang needed to do to get back into contention, Arteta added: “He is not available for the Leeds game, and this is the situation right now.”

Arteta admitted it was a difficult experience having to take action against Aubameyang, but was just one of another tests of his managerial position.

“Every time that you are sitting here you have some challenges. You have some brilliant moments, and some moments where you have to make decisions,” he said.

“I am sitting here to try to make the right decisions every day. My only intention is to get the club in the best possible condition, to defend our players, and to get the best performance and results on the pitch as we can.

“It is very challenging because those decisions are tough, and are not pleasant, but you have to do what you feel is right.”

Arteta reveals players reaction as Aubameyang stripped of Arsenal captaincy

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the players accept the decision to strip Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy.

The decision was announced this morning and Arteta addressed the media in the afternoon.

He said, “It is the right decision in the interests of the football, It was a personal conversation, face to face and he had to accept the decision. We have the leadership group and the different players nominated to be captain, we will follow that, it is an unpleasant situation and it is not the situation to take any rash decision.

“They (the players) accept the decision. They have committed to our culture, our demands and how we want to represent this club at a next level and if you do not do that you cannot be involved in the basics. The players are dealing with it extremely well.

“The decision is a really tough one and there has been a lot to digest and we need a little time. It was really hurting and we need a little time to heal. Our relationship has been really good since i have been here that is why it hurts.

“It is better to be really clear about the situation, with the number of games we have coming up.”

EPL: Aubameyang axed from Arsenal squad, Arteta gives reason

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta dropped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in today’s clash with Southampton due to a disciplinary breach.

Aubameyang wasn’t included in the Arsenal squad that defeated the Saints 3-0, with rumours aplenty of a bust up in training.

Asked why his striker is missing out Arteta said: “Unfortunately, due to a disciplinary breach.

“I think we have been very consistent, there are non-negotiables we have set as a club and I think we have been very consistent.”

The Arsenal boss was then quizzed on the possible length of time Aubameyang could be out. Arteta replied: “It starts today.

“Certainly it’s not an easy situation and not a situation we want.”

Arsenal can make statement with victory at Man Utd – Henry

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry says Mikel Arteta’s team can make a statement against Manchester United tonight.

Arsenal go to United with the prospect of breaking into the top four with a win.

“It showed we can beat Newcastle at home. We can beat Burnley, we can beat Aston Villa before Steven Gerrard arrived. We can beat Leicester with 27 per cent possession,” Henry said.

“I think personally winning against those teams – and I’m not having a go – but I expect it from Arsenal when they play one game a week.

“Now the improvement is can you beat the teams at the top? That’s the improvement I want to see and am waiting to see tomorrow at Old Trafford.

“Every time they play a team they should lose against they not only lose but they get smashed. The improvement I want to see is can they get top-four?

“I’m an Arsenal fan and I think Mikel Arteta is doing well, but I want to see that improvement.

“Manchester United are not in the top-four but it can be a statement to go there and win and win well.

“We’re talking about Arsenal. I’m not over the moon by a Newcastle win, I want to see them win at Old Trafford tomorrow.”

Arteta admits Saka in danger ahead of Man Utd clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed Bukayo Saka could miss Thursday’s clash with Manchester United.

The England winger was forced off during last weekend’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Arteta will assess how Saka performs in training on Wednesday before deciding if he’ll feature at Old Trafford.

“I am hopeful but we don’t know,” Arteta said.

“Obviously it’s a really short turnaround and the player has to be comfortable playing with a little injury, so let’s see how he is in training.”

He continued: “We’re not going to risk our players if we believe that that can obviously go against us.

“Playing with an injury means that he may have to leave the pitch and when someone has to leave the pitch, I believe that he’s injured, even though he’s willing to continue.

“That injury can be 24 hours, 72 hours or a year. Bukayo is really willing. He’s been preparing for the last two days because he wants to play and let’s see how he is.”

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has insisted that Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has made radical changes in some areas.

Arteta also described Rangnick as a really interesting person in the football world.

The Gunners manager stated this while speaking about Rangnick on Wednesday during his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s away Premier League clash with Manchester United on Thursday night.

The 63-year-old German will then take up a two-year consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“He’s [Rangnick] been one of the top coaches,” Arteta said.

“He’s made some radical changes in some areas and is a really interesting person in the football world and a really interesting appointment for the football club [Man United].”

EPL: Arsenal chief confirms Wenger possible return

Arsenal technical director Edu has spoken with Arsene Wenger about a return to the club.

Mikel Arteta recently claimed that he would love the former Gunners boss to make a return to the Emirates.

And Edu also believes that Arteta should be involved with the north London club.

“It was great to see Arsene Wenger the other day at the screening for his new documentary,” Edu wrote in Arsenal’s programme on Saturday.

“We had a good conversation, and I said to him that he cannot realise how important he is for my career.

“I told him I would like to see him a bit closer to the club and to myself as well in the future. That would be a real, real pleasure and special for everyone here.

“I also told him I was so proud to see myself in his film – it brought back lots of great memories about that Invincibles team!

“I loved watching how we built that team, how we built that season, how we went for every single game – against Manchester United, against Liverpool – those huge games and how we approached them.

“These are the beautiful memories I have as a player, but now I am a technical director, and I was watching it thinking about how we can create that culture that Arsene had at that moment.

“The mentality that the players had, the feeling we had in the dressing room and what we built together as a team.

“I remember the respect we had between all the players – you need that in a long, long season together.

“We were good friends, and we worked for each other. If I can help create that again, then that’s what we want to do.”

EPL: Mikel Arteta reacts after bust-up with Klopp

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stands by his touchline bust-up with Liverpool rival Jurgen Klopp during Sunday’s Anfield defeat.

The two men clashed during the Gunners’ 4-0 Premier League defeat at Anfield last Saturday, with the Spaniard furious over Sadio Mane’s challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu and the German unhappy with his reaction to it.

Asked if it was good for the players to see his passion, Arteta said: “I don’t know. It’s who I am. If I feel like this, I will react and if I feel I have to defend my players, I will do it.

“It’s part of our character. You have to be spontaneous and do what you do. I will always defend my club, my team and the players on the pitch.”

Asked about the response he has had in training this week, he replied: “Not only there, I really liked the reaction that we had already in the dressing room at Anfield after the game and how some players showed leadership and described what happened in a really honest way and looked forward.

“There are always bumps in the road. There are results, there are injuries, there are issues that you have to deal with and I really like how the team has reacted through the week.”

EPL: Smith Rowe seals Arsenal win in Arteta’s 100th game

Emile Smith Rowe scored in a third successive Premier League game as Arsenal claimed victory over Watford in manager Mikel Arteta’s 100th match in charge.

The in-form Smith Rowe registered the 100th league goal of Arteta’s tenure with a low drive from outside the box after 56 minutes.

Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a first-half penalty saved by Ben Foster following a poor challenge by Danny Rose on Alexandre Lacazette – and the Hornets goalkeeper produced another fine stop to keep out Gabriel’s header shortly before half-time.

Watford were fired an early warning when Bukayo Saka had an eighth-minute finish ruled out for offside at Emirates Stadium.

The Hornets’ first attempt did not arrive until the 40th minute but Joshua King squandered the chance to earn a late point, shooting into the side-netting after pouncing on a mix-up between Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White.

The visitors’ afternoon was made worse as Juraj Kucka was dismissed for a second yellow card late on and defeat left Claudio Ranieri’s side 17th, two points above the relegation places.

It is a sixth victory in eight Premier League games for Arsenal, who move up to fifth – level on points with fourth-placed West Ham.

EPL: Lacazette remains important for me – Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists he values Alexander Lacazette as his contract runs down.

Lacazette stayed at Arsenal this summer and came off the bench to score a last-gasp equaliser in Monday’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, his third goal from five games this season.

“To keep doing what he’s doing, he had a good impact as well against Brighton,” said Arteta. ” Since I’ve been here he’s played a lot and been important and he will continue to be important.

“I had no doubts about that (his motivation) and if I did I would probably have decided to do something different in the summer if the motivation was just his financial future.

“It’s not the case with Laca.”
