Lacazette playing like he wants to stay at Arsenal – Arteta

Mikel Arteta believes Alexandre Lacazette is playing like he wants to stay at Arsenal beyond this season.

The Frenchman, who is out of contract in the summer, scored a late winner in the 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Emirates on Thursday.

Speaking after the gane, Arteta said: “When I see our striker in the 85th minute, chasing a full-back in the corner flag, winning the ball back, playing, going, fighting, missing one chance, missing two chances, going again. What can I do?

“I can only praise him and try to help him as much as possible and give him support. At the end he got the reward. For me, it’s Lacazette’s goal.

“We don’t know what is going to happen at the end of the season. What he needs to do is put aside that future. It is part of our game, we don’t have contracts that run for 20 years. That’s part of our job and we have to be conscious of that.

“There’s nothing to tell him but to praise him, because every single day he behaves like someone that wants to stay with us.”

Asked if Lacazette embodied the character in Arsenal’s team, Arteta added: “Yes and that is what we need as a team.

“Now we are building a team with a lot of young talent and new players and they need those experiences.”

How Arsenal can improve shocking red-card record – Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained how the club can improve its disciplinary record.

The Gunners have received more red cards than any team in the Premier League this season.

The past five matches have seen three Gunners’ players receive their marching orders, which has hindered the team from achieving their season objectives of winning a trophy and finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

“We played three games out of five with 10 men, and if that’s one of the things in the last 17 games that we continue to do, our chances to be where we are going to be really low,” Arteta said, per the club website.

“We have to play with 11 players on the pitch. We need most of the players available and fit as much as possible. We need to maintain the togetherness. We have to keep improving our game model and we have to go game by game.

“To do that we have to be super focused and we have to perform on the day and the rest will come because we are in the position where it’s possible and we can achieve it but only if everybody has that mindset.”

“I think there are a few factors,” he added on how he can improve the players’ discipline.

“First of all how we raise them throughout our academy, the type of characters that we build and that’s the best way to do it in that pathway.

“Then, in recruitment, the type of characters and personalities that you are signing and making sure that they are the right ones to fit within your culture and then the other one is living by example, so when you see certain behaviours daily, they become habits and those habits are easy to follow and once they’re integrated, I don’t think anybody can escape from that and try to do something different, because it gets exposed.”

  • I was the solution, not the problem – Arteta tells Aubameyang

I was the solution, not the problem – Arteta tells Aubameyang

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has responded to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s claims after his move to Barcelona.

The Gabonese has insisted the end of his time at Arsenal was due exclusively to a problem with the Basque coach, who separated him from the first team after missing training following a trip to France.

    Arteta said, “That’s his opinion.

“It’s what he said and you have to respect it. I’m very grateful for what he contributed, the goals he scored are undeniable.

“But the way I see myself in that relationship is the solution, not the problem.”

Aubameyang reveals his only problem at Arsenal

Barcelona signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit out at Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Aubameyang signed for Barca on Monday after being released from his contract by the Gunners.

Aubameyang said: “I think the problem was only with him [Arteta] and he made the decision.

“I can’t say much, he wasn’t happy and that’s it. It happened like that. He wasn’t very happy, I stayed very calm and that’s it.

“They were difficult months but I think that’s how football is sometimes.

“For my part I have never wanted to do something wrong and now I think that this is the past and I want to think about the present and right now that is my answer.”

Aubameyang has signed a deal to 2025 with the Catalans.

Arteta approves Arsenal move for Barca midfielder

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has approved a move for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Barca have encouraged Coutinho to find a new club in January and agents are attempting to take him back to England.

Mundo Deportivo says among the clubs contacted is Arsenal, where manager Mikel Arteta has approved the Brazilian’s arrival.

Talks for the moment are at an initial stage, with negotiations to step up next week.

Everton and Newcastle have also expressed interest in the former Liverpool star in recent days.

Morrison, Arteta reject Rangnick’s League Cup claims

Former Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison has hit out at caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick over the German’s claims Premier League clubs leave the Carabao Cup.

Derby midfielder Morrison has insisted that the competition provides youngsters with the opportunity to make a name for themselves and gain experience.

Morrison posted to social media: “It’s a good cup for the younger generation to get their chance & shine.”

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta also said: “We made it to the semifinals, which is what we wanted.

“I don’t see coaches and clubs giving up the League Cup because everyone wants to win and win trophies.

“If you look at the lineups of teams 10 years ago and now, you will see that they are very different.”

I’m no dictator but you must show respect – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists he does not run the club with an iron fist.

The Spaniard axed club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang two weeks ago for a disciplinary breach.

It is now unclear whether Aubameyang will fellow the likes of the departed Mesut Ozil, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Skhodran Mustafi, who all got on the wrong side of Arteta.

“I don’t establish my authority by being dictatorial or ruthless,” said Arteta.

“I just ask for respect and commitment. At this level, if I don’t get that I pack my bags and go somewhere else because that is the minimum I can ask for.

“To be successful you have to be passionate about something and if you want to represent a club of this size, with its history, that is the minimum standard you have to bring.

“I am not going to ask anybody to put the ball into the top corner every time they hit it, but I will ask them to do the right things every single day for this club. That is for sure.”

We’re trying really hard to convince Nketiah – Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says they’re trying to convince Eddie Nketiah to sign a new contract.

With his deal to expire in June, Nketiah hit a hat-trick in their Carabao Cup quarterfinal win against Sunderland last night.

Arteta said this morning: “We are trying really hard.

“His contract has an expiry date and you can’t control that.

“His genuine intention is that he wants to play football and that’s what’s driving whatever decision he’s going to take, but he’s obviously a player we want to keep.

“We try to give all the arguments that we can, to himself and his people.

“With the way he is training and performing he deserves more minutes.”

  • How Martinelli has improved in recent weeks – Arteta

How Martinelli has improved in recent weeks – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes that young forward Gabriel Martinelli has improved a great deal recently.

The forward was struggling to get game time under Arteta over the past 12 months.

However, Martinelli has started the last five games in the Premier League, and scoring three goals in the past two matches.

“You cannot play every action at 100mph, it is impossible,” Arteta said, per Metro.

“It is not very efficient for you because you burn yourself out after a few minutes, and then you just chasing a situation and not reading exactly what is needed.

“Gabriel is doing much better at that. We have to try to do that without losing the passion, the energy and this capacity he has to just affect the game with the way he acts on the pitch.

“He trains incredibly hard, he is always willing to do more and he is not scared or afraid to take risks, and that is what I like about him.”

Asked if he would ever want to play against Martinelli, Arteta added: “I can imagine, you’re not going to have any time on the ball.

“Every time the ball is 50/50 he is going to chase it and he’s going to use his body, his speed, his technical ability to get away from you.

“And you have to be careful, because he can attack you one v one, he can attack your back, he can make movements off the ball. He is a real threat in front of goal.”

Ian Wright reveals player giving Arteta problem at Arsenal

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has said Emile Smith Rowe has given Mikel Arteta a new problem, after his goal against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Gunners saw off their hosts comfortably in a 4-1 win, to consolidate their grip on the fourth place spot in the Premier League table.

Alexandre Lacazette led the line for Mikel Arteta’s men while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli (2) on either flank both grabbed the goals in the first half.

It meant Smith Rowe had to start from the bench, before being introduced for Saka on 78 minutes.

Just six minutes later, the 21-year-old got on the scoresheet, scoring his seventh league goal of the season.

“At the moment what he’s doing is brilliant.

“What you’re seeing with Emile Smith Rowe is “Ok I’m out of the team but when I come on, I don’t care if I’m getting two minutes, five minutes, ten minutes, I’m going to get a chance, I’m going to make sure I score.”

“What he’s doing now, what he’s realized is that it’s about goals, it’s about the end product.

“It’s something that he’s worked on and the managers wanted him to work on and now he’s showing the manager “right if you put me on the bench I’m looking to score a goal.”

“He’s done it and given the manager another problem and that is exactly what you want,” he told Premier League Productions.
