Police bust fake EFCC operatives terrorizing Asaba residents

Five fake operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for terrorising members of the public in Asaba, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Friday in Asaba.

He said, “Following a series of complaints received from members of the public, especially from the youths, alleging that EFCC operatives usually break into their houses at night, forcefully arrest them, take them away and extort huge sums of money from them.

“On November 16, 2022, the command received another complaint from a victim, whose house was stormed at night by the syndicate. They gained entrance into the compound by scaling the fence, broke into his apartment, forcefully abducted and took him away in a white Toyota Hiace bus.

“The victim stated that on getting to Head Bridge, the boundary between Delta and Anambra State, they forcefully collected his phones from him, other valuables worth N3,700,000, made cash transfer of N2,500,000 and told him that they would come for him again.

“Five other victims also reported to the command and made statements on how they were robbed of about N15,000,000. It became clear that it is the activities of hoodlums, pretending to be EFCC operatives.

“The Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Ali, directed the Command Decoy Squad to investigate, ensure that they are arrested and brought to book. In compliance with this directive, on November, the Commander CP-Decoy ASP Julius Robinson, acting on credible information trailed them to their hideout in a hotel located in Asaba.”

He said the hoodlums were hibernating in the hotel planning their next operation when police swooped on them and arrested five suspects including leader of the syndicate, Prince Allison, 29.

My daughter was killed for ritual purposes – Tega Okpako’s dad

The father of Tega Okpako who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend last Thursday in Asaba has reacted to the death of his daughter.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Alex Okpako a civil servant in Delta State saying:

“This boy Morrison Okomor came to me with drinks that he wants to marry my daughter not knowing that he had evil plans to use my daughter for ritual.

“He comes to visit regularly but of late the visits started diminishing and I asked my daughter severally what was happening to the relationship. Then suddenly, last Tuesday, she said she was going to Asaba to see Morrison.

“As a father I tried to convince her not to travel because a family member was wedding on Saturday but she promised to be back on Friday because of the wedding.

“Only for me to hear that she was in a coma and when she was taken to FMC Asaba she was rejected.

“Her uncle immediately called a doctor there but the doctor confirmed Tega was brought there stone cold meaning my daughter had died in Morrison’s house.

“My wife was very much against this relationship from day one until this calamity befell us.

“The boy (Morrison) had a well planned out escape agenda because if my daughter’s uncle had not gotten in touch with a top ranking police officer who immediately sent officers in mufti to FMC he would have escaped.

“The policemen got there and during interrogation discovered that Morrison who claimed my daughter was in a coma was already filling Mortuary form to deposit her there and escape.

“He was arrested and still in detention as I speak to you now. I am at the station here in Asaba because this boy pierced a hole into Tega’s forehead like most ritualists do.

“Morrison had a plan ‘B’ as he had sold his car and purchased tickets to relocate to Turkey to continue his nefarious activities.

Recall TNG had on Sunday reported this incident.

  • Asaba rally: APC reacts as Omo-Agege’s supporters defect to PDP in droves

Asaba rally: APC reacts as Omo-Agege’s supporters defect to PDP in droves

…APC is finished in Delta – PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has averred members of the party who defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State on Saturday are political retirees.

The Delta APC in a statement released by Pius Ituru of the Media and Publicity Department denied that the defectors were supporters of Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege.

Some political stalwarts of the APC from all the three senatorial zones of the State defected to the PDP in droves on Saturday.

They include Chief Cyril Ogodo, former APC State Chairman; Barr. Ogheneluemu Sylvester Imonina, acting State Publicity Secretary of APC; Precious Enuenweayoi, acting State Welfare Secretary of the APC; Chief Ben Onwuka, two times Oshimili South APC Chairman and former APC Senatorial Chairman, Eze Dr. Nelson Bini, Ndokwa East APC.

Others are Chief Barr. Ijeoma from Ukwuani APC; Barr. Peter Lotobi of the Sen. Ovie Omo Agege Solidarity Movement, Delta North; Ogbueshi Patrick Okonkwo, Oshimili North APC, Hon. Chief Victor Enuma and his supporters from Aboh, Ndokwa East, and Apostle Victor Sorokwu, Former APC Senatorial Secretary, Delta North.

Also, Barr. Ogokuni Sylvester and Chief Emmanuel Ogbe from G30 APC Ndokwa East and West; APC Delta Central Elders Council led by Chief Sylvester Kowho; Mr. Voke Ighorodje, Senior Legislative Aide to Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, and so many other distinguished Deltans are among those that defected.

Others as well are Hon. David Omotor; Hon. Emuobor Solomon; Hon. Elvis Awhinawhi; Comrade Michael Atake; Delta Central Chairmen, Chief Harrison Abuje, Wisdom Ghaghara, Hon. Samuel Omamor, Prof. David Ighodigho Ejerobor, Sir Imodje Boniface, Samson Joseph Iriruage, Chief Ighodigho, Chief John Araka and his group.

All these political stalwarts defected with multitude of supporters and loyalists, running into hundreds of them.

However, Delta State APC has described those that defected to the PDP as “a handful of former members who were expelled by their various wards for diverse anti-party activities and offences”.

In the statement by Ituru, the APC described the defectors as noisy paperweight politicians and that their actions was good riddance to bad rubbish.

“Those being celebrated by the hate-filled and rudderless regime of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP are expired former members of the APC who cannot win even any free and fair election conducted in their respective wards as they have long become burdensome political retirees and extortionists, not progressives fit for the APC,” the statement reads in part.

The APC further stated that the “defectors are noisemakers with virtually no dependable electoral value and who though have failed consistently to win elections in their units in successive elections, remain extremely greedy in demanding laughable rewards that even God Almighty won’t give.”

The party commended its loyal members urging them not to be bothered by the tricks of what it called “political liabilities and jobbers who nicknamed themselves supporters of the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege just to temporarily shore up their political value for immediate benefit.”

APC is finished in Delta – PDP

Meanwhile, the Delta State PDP has welcomed with open arms the arrival of the prominent political opposition figures into the PDP.

A statement by Delta PDP State Publicity Secretary, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza reads: “Delta State PDP welcomes with open arms, the arrival of former chieftains and stalwarts of the All Progressive Congress, APC and other political parties including Chief Cyril Ogodo, former APC State Chairman, Barr. Ogheneluemu Sylvester Imonina, acting State Publicity Secretary of APC and Precious Enuenweayoi, acting State Welfare Secretary of the APC, just to mention but few, amongst an overwhelming number of distinguished Deltans, into our PDP family under the big umbrella that covers the entire Delta State.

“Due to the massive numbers of distinguished Deltans who have now made PDP their new political home and family, we have compiled a comprehensive list of these our brothers and sisters, which will be published in a separate press release very soon.

“Deltans already know the excellent and impressive track records of so many of these fine men and women, that brought credibility, charisma, tremendous goodwill, vibrant intellectual articulation and a huge sense of commitment in their zeal to shore up the APC’s dwindling fortunes and goodwill in what was already designated as failed project.

“Unfortunately, the fractured and factionalized APC failed woefully to appreciate the exceptional qualities and values which these stalwarts brought into their party and today we are very happy and excited to have them and their teeming supporters running into thousands, join our great PDP family, where they will be fully covered and protected under the mighty umbrella that is covering the entire Delta State.

“We have no doubt whatsoever that the defections of these distinguished Deltans and their multitude of supporters, had not just dealt a mortal body blow to the ailing and formless APC in Delta State, signalling that the party is collapsing and almost finished in the State, it will also expand the burgeoning ranks of our membership in their various Constituencies and Senatorial Zones and will further consolidate the already accepted fact that Delta is PDP and PDP is Delta.

“We are also very confident that they will all bring their wealth of experience, solid political capital and proactive dynamism into the PDP, as they break the bonds and shackles that had held them hostage and kept them in the bondage of APC, and begin to flourish in the new atmosphere of freedom in the PDP.

“The Umbrella is big and wide enough to accommodate all, and Delta PDP has always provided and will continue to provide the conducive atmosphere, a level playing field and an all inclusive environment for one and all true loyal and faithful party men, women and youths across the three Senatorial Zones, as we collectively work towards ensuring a #StrongerDelta, for all Deltans”.

  • Leisure park, film village will change Asaba landscape – Okowa

Leisure park, film village will change Asaba landscape – Okowa

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, on Thursday, said the ongoing Leisure Park and Film Village project would, when completed, change the landscape of Asaba.

The governor spoke to newsmen after inspecting the twin projects and expressed optimism that the projects would be completed in February 2022.

He stated that equipment for the leisure park and film village had arrived at Lagos seaports and would be installed before end of February.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and announced that he would visit the site to ensure that deadline is met.

According to him, “this is my first assignment in the course of this year, 2022, because of the importance that I attach to the twin project of the leisure park and the film village.

“We have gone round and obviously a lot of work has been done. There is no doubt that there might be a little delay or the other but definitely a lot of progress has been made.

“I have been reassured by the contractors that civil works will be completed by the end of February.

“The civil works will be through by the end of February from what I see but some environmental works are still going on, the issue of greenery of the area.

“As we walked round we saw some of the trees that are being nursed for the purpose of planting and I am told that many more are also coming in.

“So, we look forward to the completion of the civil works and the greenery of the area by the end of February.

“He has also informed us that the equipment that will be required for the leisure park and the games are all already at the port in Lagos and that before the end of January the equipment will start arriving at the site and by February they would have started installations.

“I want to hold them to their word but obviously I can see some improvement here and it is my desire that we should be able to give life to this twin project by the Easter season which is just only a month and a week by February ending”.

Okowa said the project was crucial to his Stronger Delta vision and would continue to receive funding in spite of financial challenges due to dwindling revenue.

“I will be here again in mid February to access the progress of work but generally I am satisfied by the progress of work going on, considering the difficulties that we have now with funding and other challenges.

“We are looking very enthusiastically to the completion of this project because i know obviously that it is going to change the face of Asaba.

“The project which has an artificial lake and an observation tower among other facilities will be better appreciated when everything is fully completed.

“We all look forward to the fun that families will get from this park in the next few months,” the governor said.
