TheNewsGuru reports that Stevenator was Asake’s manager between 2022 and 2024. However, speaking in a recent interview, the manager disclosed that he stepped down as the singer’s manager because Asake’s fame grew quickly, and he became too big for him to manage.

He also thanked Nigerian singer Olamide, the head of YBNL record label, for allowing him to manage Asake. He mentioned that he could not continue due to family commitments.

He said: “Olamide called me one day and told me that he had an artiste he would want me to manage. And that was the first time I’m going into management. I don’t know anything about the job. I have been friends with Olamide for over 20 years.

“I never met Asake before. I don’t know anything about him and I have never heard his song before. And I cannot learn the job on the job. Asake blew up so quickly that there was no time to learn the job, so it was back to back.

“The challenge was my family. At a time I had two sons and I did not have time to spend with them. I’m a family guy, I have not been able to be there for my family but still then I still have to make money so they can live a better life.

“Sometimes we are on the road for four to five months. I’m always on my phone with my kids. So I asked them to come to London and my second son refused me to carry him because he doesn’t know me. For me to be able to balance my work and family, I have to step down. Asake became way too big that I have to be following him everywhere he goes. So, I’m now a family man, and I love my wife.”

She further explained that the singer’s father was always active in caring for Zeenat as he always encouraged her to keep in touch with the singer while he was away at school.

She, however, claimed the 30-year-old singer changed after finishing university when Zeenat turned seven.

“When I told him it had been long since we saw each other, he asked me if that was important. He started giving me attitude.

“He said I was forcing myself on him and that my problems were too much. Later, he sent me messages saying he would block me. He told me I was free to marry someone else, as he had no time for a relationship,” she said.

Some sources alleged that Malo was a supportive father who raised Asake singlehandedly after his mother left when he was three years old. Others countered this claim, stating that the singer had been abandoned by his father and only had a strong relationship with his mother, whose name he adopted as his stage name.

A Facebook user, Segun Ben-Ajayi, shut down allegations that Malo was a deadbeat father, insisting that he played a crucial role in Asake’s upbringing. “Malo was never an absentee father. He raised Asake alone when his mother left. Now, ironically, the singer enjoys his success with the very person who abandoned him,” Ben-Ajayi wrote.

Laziness, greed made you lose gigs worth $4m last year – Former manager Phoenix drags Asake

A London-based music promoter, Tunde Babalola also known as Tunde Phoenix has called out popular Nigerian singer and former client, Asake.

According to Tunde, in a lengthy Instagram rant on Thursday night,  the singer turned down numerous lucrative performance offers in 2024, due to unwillingness to share earnings with his team.

The music promoter further shared show gigs the singer refused to honor, including a national show with global stars (close to $1 million per show).

The show promoter who accused Asake of being lazy, alleged that the singer’s work ethic led to lost opportunities worth over $4 million last year.

He wrote: “Oh, a show which I will not mention because it’s not publicly announced. But as soon as it’s public, I will reference it. A national show with global stars, which I won’t mention out of respect for the other parties involved.

“Figure: 1st offer: Six figures and not $500K × 3 shows + Name your production cost. 2nd offer: We really, really want [him] nationally—name your price. Okay, close to $1 million per show because we want him. Me and @iamstevenator.

“Embarrassing as it turns out, he declined. They were so disappointed, and their words to us—I can’t say it. These are powerful people in touring. Steve, the truth will set you free.

“Africa Tour Offers: 4 shows = $3 million + Private Jet + Production + Logistics for the band + Accommodation for all (top-notch, of course). But because of GREED and not wanting to break anyone off, you said ‘cancel the tour’.

“@iamstevenator, the truth will set you free. P.S: Africa had bigger offers, way bigger—because he never toured. Now him and GIRAFFE… Never mind.

“Asake 2-set offer 24/25. Dates: (To be mutually agreed) November 1st or 2nd, 2024 (1) and February 2025 (2). Venue: Sky 2.0 – Dubai (1,000 – 1,500 capacity). Set length: 20 minutes. Fee: $400,000 + accommodation, flights, transfers, and ground transport.

“Accommodation, transport, and all logistics to be provided per show. Payment terms: 50% of the total fee ($200,000) is required immediately upon confirmation. The remaining 50% balance is due one week before the shows. The Dubai offer he turned down. Imagine what this is? Evil behavior.

“Flytime Fest – ₦000,000,000 (Not ₦200M, way more). Lagos Countdown – Whatever it takes as the son of the soil. Bless you, Ma. You tried everything, and we delivered everything, but to no avail.

“Oando oil end of year – $000,000 (more than $400K) with Bizzle. Oh no, just a DJ and no band for 30 minutes. Tony Elumelu end of year – pretty much, what would it take? Plus many more offers, totaling more than at least $4M.

“This guy will say he did a world tour and is tired. Bro, you did 11 shows in the whole year of 2024—as an artist aiming for mega stardom in your I’m here to stay year, this is pathetic.”

Asake has yet to respond to these allegations.
