Just In: Calls for an interim govt, shoddy elections protest rocks Abuja

Fresh protests, on Thursday, rocked the nation’s capital, Abuja, over the just concluded elections, with protesters kicking against the May 29 inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and instead demanding the invocation of an Interim National Government, ING.
They asked Presidential Muhammadu Buhari to put the ING in place before he leaves office on May 29.
The angry Nigerians, who protested on the platform of the National Youth League for the Defence of Democracy, NYLDD, also demanded the immediate sack and arrest of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu by the Department Security Services, DSS.
Armed with various placards with different inscriptions, they also asked several foreign embassies in Nigeria to immediately revoke the visas of 15 INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs.
The RECs they want to be sanctioned are those of Lagos, Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Jigawa, Kano and Imo. Others are Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Katsina and Edo States.
Addressing journalists at the Unity Fountain, where the protest started, one of the leaders of the group, Dr Moses Paul, said the interim government is expected to appoint a new INEC chairman and conduct a fresh election that will produce a befitting President for Nigeria.
He said; “We are citizens of Nigeria, lovers of Nigeria, standing on the path of our constitution and citizens’ rights.
“We are here particularly to address the greatest crime that has happened in the history of the world and in Nigeria.
“People were burnt in Kano, people were shot in Rivers, and we have seen the greatest inhumanity happen in Lagos state in the course of this election.
“Two demands we are making; we are asking the President of this country to immediately arrest and prosecute the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who has committed the greatest fraud in the history of humanity.
“We need him arrested and prosecuted.
“Our number two demand is that we are asking that an interim government be put in place. We are saying that, because we do not want President Muhammadu Buhari to continue, his tenure is ending, so as a father he should put in place an interim government so that the interim government will now appoint another INEC chairman who will conduct a free and credible election and produce a befitting President for our country.”
When asked to provide other options if the two demands were not met, one of the co-conveners, Anngu Orngu, said they are harmless Nigerians “but we will use every other civil and lawful means to make sure that our demands are met”.
“We are here as frustrated Nigerians and the fundamental rights of Nigerians have been trampled upon by Mahmood Yakubu-led INEC and we are here calling for his immediate resignation.
“We have also requested that DSS should arrest him, and he should be prosecuted by the EFCC.
“We have been to the US Embassy, we have been to the British Council in Nigeria, and we have also submitted a letter to the French Embassy, calling on them to advise the Nigerian government that the Nigerian people are not happy.
“We the young people of this country are not happy over what is happening in our country. We may be peaceful now but when you push even a goat to the wall, the goat may bite,” he added.
In one of the letters made available to journalists and addressed to the to the United States Embassy, the protesters called for sanctions against the INEC Chairman.

  • Why Tinubu will record landslide victory in 2023: APC Diaspora

Why Tinubu will record landslide victory in 2023: APC Diaspora

The Diaspora Directorate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) says the party will record landslide victory in the 2023 poll, because it has massive support from Nigerians.

Mr Ade Omole, Director, Diaspora Directorate, APC Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) said this when he spoke with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.

Omole said that the massive support being enjoyed by the party was a pointer to its victory in the 2023 general election.
He said that the presidential candidate of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has track records of unprecedented accomplishments during his days as Lagos State governor to show for his bid to succeed President Muhamadu Buhari.

He said that Tinubu was the most acceptable among the Presidential candidates for 2023 because he has built bridges across the country’s geo-political zones as well as buiding people.

“Tinubu has built an empire out of many Nigerians who crossed paths with him ever since his foray into public office.

“These Nigerians and many others who believe in his vision for a better Nigeria, are today mostly his foot soldiers, campaigning for him across the federation,” Omole said.

He said while other presidential candidates were literarily asleep, Tinubu, a former two-term Lagos State governor was on the top of his game and his foot soldiers not relenting.

He added that while one of the presidential candidates was abroad, others have gone silent as their social media supporters were beginning to lose their voices.

Omole said that Tinubu would address the challenges currently facing the country.

He said that Tinubu has the capacity to make Nigeria the envy of other nations by virtue of the party’s manifesto and his Action Plan.

“The manifesto is very rich, especially on national security, economy, power, oil and gas, foreign policy, health care and education showed someone who is prepared, compared to another candidates who said they do not need manifestos.
“Tinubu as a wealth creator will encourage more investments from Nigerians in Diaspora as well as other foreign investments and provide viable business opportunities in the country.
“The APC Presidential candidate will ensure continued improvement in businesses, the environment, governance and the quality of service from institutions,” he said.

He said while Tinubu and the APC PCC continued to take the lead in the campaigns by focusing on issues, the opposition candidates and their parties were still finding it difficult to get their houses in order to speak with one voice.
“We remain focused, united and with our eyes on the ball, not considering any distraction from the opposition.
“Our goal is to ensure a Tinubu presidency come 2023, so we can, through the instrumentality of government, turn the current challenges in the country into opportunities.
“We desire to positively impact the lives of Nigerians while making the country the envy of other nations,” Omole said.

NAN reports that the United Kingdom-based Fitch Solutions Group has said that Tinubu was the most likely presidential candidate to win the 2023 presidential election.

The group, in its report obtained from an online poll ahead of the February poll, said many factors pointed toward a Tinubu victory at the poll.

“Indeed, we maintain our view that the ruling party’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the candidate most likely to win the presidential election as a split opposition vote will favour the APC,” the FSG said.

The group said Tinubu’s performance as governor of Lagos State, the choice of his running mate and the party, APC, would grant him electoral victory at the poll.

2023: APC set to unveil vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima

The ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to officially unveil its vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country.

The presidential candidate of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier announced Shettima as his running mate.

The former Borno governor and Senator will be presented to the Nigerian public on Wednesday.

This was development was conveyed via a statement signed and released by the  National Organising Secretary of APC Sulaiman Argungu on Tuesday in Abuja.

The event is billed to take place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

The party invited members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Progressives Governors’ Forum, APC Caucus in the National Assembly, Federal Executive Council (FEC), and Diplomatic Corps.

Others are presidential aspirants at the June 2022 Special National Convention, APC State Chairmen, Secretaries, and Organizing Secretaries.

However, the Muslim-Muslim ticket presented by APC has sparked a lot of reactions from the CAN and other Christian bodies in the country.

  • Muslim-Muslim ticket: We can’t defend this before our constituents – Northern Christian APC leaders

Muslim-Muslim ticket: We can’t defend this before our constituents – Northern Christian APC leaders

    …say it’s unacceptable

    … insist 1993 June 12 not 2023

The 19 Northern states All Progressives Congress APC, Christian leaders rose from a meeting on Monday and declared that it is virtually impossible to defend a Muslim -Muslm ticket before their constituents in northern Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls the APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday unveiled his fellow Muslim, former Governor of Borno Senator Kashim Shetima as his running mate.

The leaders of the 19 Northern states that are christians within APC have declared that there’s no basis to compare 1993 June 12 presidential election that produced a nullity to the forth coming 2023 presidential election.

To this end the leaders noted that:”At this moment of National peril, we believe that what should be paramount in Nigeria is UNITY.

“For without unity we cannot build. Any political party or candidate that elevates the greed of a few people above the needs of the generality of the people has no business running the affairs of Nigeria.

The Christian leaders noted: “That the current Nigerian environment and political atmosphere is different from what occurred in 1993, therefore a Muslim -Muslm ticket is unacceptable. It doesn’t take the smart to know that the Abiola/Kingibe victory in 1993 turned out to be a pyrrhic victory there was never a President Abiola nor vice President Kingibe. Is that what we want a repeat of in 2023?

” The selection of a Muslim running mate is a display of crass . incensitivity to the complexity of modem Nigeria and the entire Church. It is al. a betrayal of the advocates of unity and peaceful co-existence with our muslim brothers including notable Imams who had forewarned the Party and the candidate from traveling that treacherous route.

“That the APC has always come under the suspicion of the Church as pursuing an islamization agenda Hence the various labels of the APC as: Islamic Movement, Islamic brotherhood, janjawced party, Boko Haram party etc, etc. Now with all the positions in the hands of our Muslim brothers. it would take ingenious mendacity to prove otherwise

“That the rejection of a Muslim Muslim ticket by Christians would undermine the electoral fortunes of the APC and . candidate. across. all States and constituencies where Christians enjoy numerical advantage. By so doing APC h. recklessly thrown its Christian candidates under the bus across. the nation.

“That considering the fact that, the chairman of the party, deputy chairman north, the president of the senate, the speaker and deputy spanker, and now both presidential candidate and his running mate: etc, are all Muslims and assuming that such lopsidedness does not violate 5.I4 (3) of the Constitution: if this was to be reversed an that all these were Christians, can any contentious Muslim.

“Can Nigeria attempt to sell such patently unjust and unfair arrangements to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria?

.. The Muslim-Muslim ticket appears to have violated this provision.

” That Mr. President being also the Leader of APC is urged to intervene in this matter in order to ensure justice, equity and fair play in the interest of the peace and stability of this great nation and save our party from disintegration.

“We believe that PMB who fought to keep Nigeria one, will not allow fanatic on both sides to wreak havoc on what remains of the tapestry that binds us as a people. We can avoid the dire political consequences of the contraption called ‘same faith ‘ticket.

” We are disheartened that someone who wants to be a leader for all sections of the country is ‘,sorting to religious exclusivism as a tool for wining an el.:lion. This will certainly result in a massive revolt against the party. Leadership is all about inclusiveness, justice and equity.
