Tinubu to appoint non-party members to cabinet – APC

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Nicolas Felix, has revealed that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will appoint only talented people into his cabinet when he assumes office on May 29th.

Felix made this revelation known while featuring in a political program on Arise TV.

He added that Tinubu’s appointment would be based on competency and not party affiliations.

He noted that every Nigerian matters, regardless of their political party, adding that Tinubu had said he would build a government of national unity.

He said, “Asiwaju is a man that rewards loyalty, he rewards hard work, there are also Nigerians out there who are not members of our party who are also talented and experienced and capable.

“He is going to also look beyond his APC and start picking those who are out there. But I am also very sure as he has stretched his hands of fellowship to say “I want to build a government of national unity, If you are in PDP, If you are in Labour Party, you are in other parties, we are all Nigerians.”

He urged Nigerians to join hands with Tinubu to make Nigeria work again.

“When a president is elected, what is expected of every patriotic Nigerian is to join hands with the President to work together, except you are just here for your selfish interest. If you really want the growth of Nigeria, you want Nigeria to be better. Whatever you have to offer, you have to present yourself for service.

“He has already stretched his hands of fellowship. It is up to them to accept it and join him. I am sure he is not going to be running after people, he has already said come, let’s brainstorm. As many are willing to go to Asiwaju’s door, the President-elect for them to join hands together.”

2023 election: Why Tinubu is irredeemably and hopelessly ineligible to contest – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is irredeemably and hopelessly ineligible to contest the February 2023 Presidential election having been reportedly indicted and subjected to criminal forfeiture judgement for a narcotic offense.

This was made known by the Publicity Secretary of the party Debo Ologunagba, at a press conference held at the party’s Secretariat on Sunday in Abuja.

Ologunagba noted that trafficking in narcotics is an international crime to which all nations are obliged and mandated to apprehend, prosecute and enforce any judgment or Court Order imposed on the offender.

He said Nigeria being a signatory to the international convention on trafficking in narcotics is obliged to enforce any Order or judgement imposed on any offender by a competent court anywhere in the world.

“For emphasis, the US Court Ordered that the funds in the amount of $460,000 in account 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu represent proceeds of narcotics trafficking or were involved in financial transactions in violation of 18 U.S.C. S1956 and 1957 and therefore these funds were forfeited to the United States pursuant to 21 U.S.C. S881(a)(6) and 18 U.S.C S981.

“Having been sentenced and fined by way of criminal forfeiture of $460,000 drug money in a criminal suit filed pursuant to the United States Criminal Code, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot by virtue of Section 137 (1)(d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) seek office as President of Nigeria,” the PDP spokesperson said.

Section 137 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides that: “A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if he is under a sentence of death imposed by any competent court of law or tribunal in Nigeria or a sentence of imprisonment or fine for any offence involving dishonesty or fraud (by whatever name called) or for any other offence, imposed on him by any court or tribunal or substituted by a competent authority for any other sentence imposed on him by such a court or tribunal.”

Ologunagba also alleged that seeing that it is technically out of the Presidential contest and further distraught because it cannot also field candidates at all levels in the 2023 general elections due to its illegal and unconstitutional congresses, the APC has resorted to unleashing hoodlums to attack PDP Presidential Campaign rallies and other innocent Nigerians going about their legitimate endeavors as witnessed in Kaduna and Borno States, in a bid to trigger a crisis and scuttle the elections.

“The plan of the APC is to instill fear in the citizenry, disorganize and weaken other political parties, frighten, hamstring and immobilize from conducting the 2023 general elections. The APC must note that its schemes, denials, threats and resort to violence cannot help. By the provision of Section 137 (1) (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) is not eligible to contest the Presidential election in Nigeria,” he emphasized.

On its part, the APC Presidential Campaign Council has accused the PDP and the Labour Party (LP) of allegedly sponsoring the publication of fake news against Tinubu in a bid to disqualify him.

In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PCC Bayo Onanuga, called on the police to investigate the circulation of the forged INEC statement and serve justice to those responsible.

“The opposition Peoples Democratic Party and its subsidiary Labour Party having realised they have no sure path to victory in the February 2023 presidential election upped their campaign of calumny, disinformation and misinformation on Saturday by sponsoring fake news against the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“They did it by forging the letterhead of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the signature of its national commissioner, Festus Okoye. The forged statement purportedly issued by INEC was disseminated to deceive the gullible public that INEC was investigating allegations against Asiwaju Tinubu that, they desperately hoped, will ultimately lead to the disqualification of the frontline APC presidential candidate.

“This inglorious path has been taken before since 2003 and in the run-up to the primaries of the ruling APC that produced Asiwaju Tinubu as the presidential torch bearer. Those who took this damned path of infamy lost their bet because Asiwaju Tinubu stands rock solid and indestructible,” Onanuga said.

  • Tinubu tried to break APC after he was denied VP’s slot – Tambuwal

Tinubu tried to break APC after he was denied VP’s slot – Tambuwal

Sokoto State governor, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has refuted claims by the former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, that he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because he could not be given an automatic ticket in 2019.

Tambuwal also accused Tinubu of trying to destroy APC after he was denied being President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election.

Replying in a series of tweets on the Sokoto Government House handle @ SokotoGovtHouse, Tambuwal said contrary to Tinubu’s statement, he left the party because of the failure of the current administration.

Tinubu had, in a letter on Sunday, said that Tambuwal and Senate President Bukola Saraki left the APC because they were afraid to test the strength of their popularity in a primary election with President Muhammadu Buhari. The National Leader of the APC said: “Governor Tambuwal’s exit can be distilled to one cause. He covets the presidency. However, he had not the stomach to challenge President Buhari in a primary.”

But Tambuwal poohpoohed Tinubu’s claim. He said: “If I wanted to and if the presidency is why Ahmed Tinubu thinks I defected, I could contest with President Buhari under the APC. I have what it takes to have contested with Mr. President. “Tinubu tried to rock the boat when he was denied Buhari’s vice presidency. He thinks every other person could behave his way.

If I wanted to contest under the APC as president, I could have done so and only the votes could have produced a winner.

“In any case, Tinubu is confessing that there is no level-playing ground for all members of the APC; that there is no internal democracy in it and that some people were denied their right to internal democracy.

“I adduced reasons of my defection to the PDP. The reasons are still on record. Automatic ticket by the APC is certainly not part of that.”

Former APC chieftain reacts to Buhari designation of Tinubu to bring peace to party

A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigeria’s former Minister of Culture and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari designation of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bring peace to the party.

TheNewsGuru reports as part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the APC, President Buhari had designated Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts in the party.

The Presidency today in series of tweets revealed the Tinubu’s APC peace mission, which Fani-Kayode has said is a “mission impossible” and an attempt to bring the name and image of the Asiwaju of Lagos State and the Jagaban of the Borgu Kingdom in Niger State to disrepute.

“When a king wants to destroy his top general he sends him on a mission that is impossible to achieve or to a battle that can’t be won,” the Special Assistant (Public Affairs) to former President Olusegun Obasanjo stated.

Fani-Kayode was a member of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) until he moved to the APC, and then later cross-carpeted to the PDP in June 2014.

“Sending BAT [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] to settle differences between APC members is mission impossible. And the objective is to destroy him and blame him for its failure,” he stated.

As part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has designated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts.

The Presidency in a series of tweets made this known today.

“The assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the Federation,” the Presidency stated.

Reacting to the development, Koko Udom on Twitter said, “Why is this tweeted from the account of @NGRPresident? This is an APC news, the tweet should be from an APC account”.

“People are dying in this country. We want the Nigerian President engaged on that not on some infighting within the APC. You are made with our tax money, not APC,” he added.
