Why I ignored Obi/Datti movement to join Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organization – Bwala

The spokesperson for the Atiku, Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, Daniel Bwala has revealed that former president Olusegun Obasanjo is the brain behind Obi/Datti movement, saying that Obasanjo poached him but refused and then chose to join Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Bwala made the comments on Thursday while featuring on a political show on Arise Television.

The revelation is coming on the heels of the endorsement of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, by Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had, in a New Year message to Nigerians, endorsed Obi ahead of other presidential candidates for the forthcoming general  elections, in the country.

The Egba high chief noted that  age , physical and mental disposition favours Obi more than other frontline candidates.

“None of the contestants is a saint, but when one compares their character, antecedent, understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge,” Obasanjo had said.

However, Bwala said he did not join the Labour Party because he thought it could not defeat his former party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president and elder statesman, is someone that I respect very dearly. And I felt that was wrong because if you look at the content of the letter, he did not disclose the fact that he is the one behind the coupling together of the Obi/Datti movement. I know as a person because five months ago, he contacted me and wanted to draft me into the movement but respectfully I did not go, because I did not think that if I left APC because of the same free thinking that I want to ensure APC does not win, I should join a party that I don’t think to have a realistic chance of defeating APC.”

PDP set up special team to re-unite Atiku, G5 governors – Obi

The chairman and director general of Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council in Anambra State, Senator Obi and Professor Okonkwo have revealed that there is a special team working tirelessly to resolve the imbroglio between the party’s Presidential candidate and the aggrieved G5 governors in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was made known on Wednesday in Awka, the Anambra state capital, during a pre-campaign flag-off press conference to announce the visit of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Thursday.

The campaign council also used the opportunity to present its itinerary for the candidate in Anambra State.

Senator Ben Obi and Okonkwo who addressed journalists said efforts are ongoing to reconcile Atiku with the G5 governors, and that the state is also poised to give Atiku victory in the 2023 election.

Obi said: “It is a common thing for political parties to have crises. That is not out of place, and we have a team that is working to resolve the crisis in the PDP.

“This is not something we want to make public, but let me tell you that the G5 governors are also willing for peace, Wike (Rivers State governor) has said so. We have a team that is working on that, and for now, we are not willing to make the outcome public, but we are working.”

Okonkwo also added that: “Even in those states where those rifts are going on, there are still campaigns going on, and the plan is to vote PDP from top to bottom. In Abia, you have heard of the five-over-five slogan, and all our governors are still campaigning for Atiku.

“In all their (G5 Governors’) demands, they have never said they have any problem with Atiku personally. It is not a matter that can not be resolved.”

Speaking on the itinerary of the candidate in Anambra on Thursday, Okonkwo said the party expects massive mobilisation, and that a number of activities have been lined up for him.

“Arrival is by 10 am, we will meet him at the airport and also move to the Governor’s Lodge, where the presidential candidate will meet with Governor Chukwuma Soludo. From there he will have an interactive non-partisan meeting with the traditional rulers of Anambra State.

“He will commission the campaign office, and also interact with town union leaders, market leaders, at Ekwunife Centre, before hitting the campaign arena.”

Recall that the Independent National Electoral commission INEC has fixed February 25th 2023 for the presidential and National Assembly election in the country.

Asaba Building collapse: A reflection of Okowa’s decadent administration -Omo-Agege

Delta State governorship candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has taken a swipe at Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa over the collapse of a building under construction at the Asaba Stephen Keshi Township Stadium, saying it is a reflection of decadence in his government.

The DSP made this assertion shortly after the incident which recorded three casualties, reportedly in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital, Omo-Agege expressed pain at the nonchalance of the contractors engaged in the construction site.

He said the character and attitude of the contractors were a reflection of the overall character of the Okowa administration, which he described as cold and unfeeling.

Omo-Agege recalled a similar incident, a few years ago, in the same Stadium, when an overhead water tank collapsed during a live sporting event and killed one person, much to the embarrassment of Deltans.

He stressed that lives of Deltans and other Nigerians in the state seem to have lost value under Okowa because of selfish and narrow considerations, ineptitude when engaging professionals, and even in the observation of safety measures at project sites and across the state.

He questioned if the State government under Okowa was meeting financial obligations to contractors, stating that non release of funds could be an additional cause of the shoddy jobs that litter the state, and which now endanger the lives of Deltans and others within the state.

He expressed sympathy to those impacted, not only in this case, but by Okowa’s shoddy project governance in the state, and prayed for quick recovery.

He assured that ugly incidents such as these will be a thing of the past as soon as he becomes governor of Delta State, and urged all Deltans to give the APC the needed support in the 2023 general election.

  • PDP PCC dismisses report on resignation of Udom Emmanuel

PDP PCC dismisses report on resignation of Udom Emmanuel

The Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, has dismissed reports that Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has resigned from his appointment as the Chairman of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Spokesperson, Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan on Tuesday.

Ologbondiyan described the report as fake news.

“Our Campaign assures Nigerians as well as all pro-democracy and development partners that such idea is not in the contemplation of Gov. Emmanuel.

“Gov. Emmanuel, this afternoon at the launch of the PDP Governorship Campaign which held at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo, cleared this as a lie from the pit of hell and that he remains the Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.”

Ologbondiyan said that the appointment of Emmanuel as Chairman of the presidential campaign council was predicated on his belief and commitment to PDP and the ideals of PDP founding fathers.

He said it was also predicated on his unwavering confidence in PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as the leader that has the required capacity to lead the charge to rescue and rebuild the nation.

“Gov. Emmanuel is effectively and committedly leading a successful campaign that will take our Party to victory and will not be distracted by the wishful thinking of the enemies of Nigeria.”

Ologbondiyan urged Nigerians to ignore such shenanigans and fake news coming from the enemies of the nation who were desirous of causing confusion in the polity with a view to derailing the electoral process.

“We caution those behind this wicked rumour to desist from such and know that they are fighting a lost battle as Nigerians across board are already rallying with the PDP and cannot be swayed by fake news,” Ologbondiyan said.
