PDP presidential candidate, Atiku calls for immediate upload of election results

Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has demanded immediate upload of Saturday presidential election results on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server.

Abubakar made the call in a statement by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe on Sunday in Abuja.

Abubakar advised INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to instruct the election collation officers to upload the results from the polling units to INEC server immediately.

Abubakar said the call became necessary to checkmate some governors trying to compromise the results at the local government collation level.

“It will be a disservice to Nigerians and a negation to democracy for anyone to subvert the will of the people as freely expressed in their votes of yesterday,” Abubakar said.

He called on Nigerians to be calm but vigilant to ensure that anti-democratic elements who were masquerading as progressives do not steal their mandate.

Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Nigerian people for their support so far and pledged to continue to work hard to earn their trust and confidence.

  • PDP denies purported audio of Atiku, Okowa, Tambuwal planning how to rig

PDP denies purported audio of Atiku, Okowa, Tambuwal planning how to rig

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied a simulated audio recording purported to be the voices of its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and two others planning to rig the elections.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Friday, called on Nigerians and the international community “to utterly disregard the simulated audio“.

Ologunagba described the purported audio claimed to be the voices of Abubakar, his running mate, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa and the  Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, as “another pathetical fabrication“.

He alleged that the fake audio recording was evidently part of the design of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which recruited hackers to produce and circulate fake media materials.

He said the aim was to demonise the PDP and its candidate before Nigerians, ahead of the polls.

“From the manipulated sound speed and pitch, it is clear that the recording was computer-created and simulated to blackmail our leaders and deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

“It is laughable for the APC to want Nigerians to believe that Abubakar, Okowa and Tambuwal who know themselves, can be calling their own names in a conversation as heard in the fake audio recording.

“Such further betrays the recording as an amateur simulation work,“ Ologunagba said in the statement.

He said the attempt to fool Nigerians by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to clone and mimic the voices of the PDP leaders had failed.

He said that Nigerians were smart enough to detect the distorted wave forms and sound pitch that typify an AI-simulated speech.

“The fact is that no matter how hard falsehood attempts to thrive, the truth will always prevail,“ he said.

Ologunagba said that PDP was ready for Saturday elections and would not be deterred or distracted by such audio manipulation.

He urged security agencies to take urgent steps to track down the makers of the fake audio material and make them face the wrath of the law.

Atiku’s ally and House of Reps member, Chinyere Igwe arrested with $498k (Alleged sharing formular photo)

A member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, was arrested in Port Harcourt with $498,100 in his car, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police said the money was found during a stop-and-search operation along with a list of people Igwe planned to give it to.

The 57-year-old is an ally of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

A statement by Rivers police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said the lawmaker is being investigated for money laundering and attempt to buy voters ahead of the presidential and national assembly elections on Saturday.

“He was arrested by 2:45 a.m. on Friday by police officers deployed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters at Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

“The police officers, who were on stop-and-search found a cash sum of 498,100 USD inside a bag in his car meant for the elections. Also recovered from him was a list meant for the distribution of the money,” Iringe-Koko said.

She added that the assistant inspector-general of police in charge of elections in the state, Abuto Yero, has ordered the lawmaker’s interrogation and arraignment in court.

A video of Igwe being interrogated by security agents was circulated by the Rivers State Government on Friday morning.

In the video, Igwe said he was driving home about midnight when he was stopped by security agents along Aba Road.

He said part of the money was meant to support the PDP while the rest was his personal money.

Atiku's ally and House of Reps member, Chinyere Igwe arrested with $498k (Alleged sharing formular photo)

Igwe’s arrest occurred two days after a radio and television station belonging to him was attacked by gunmen in Rivers State.

A few months ago, a fuel station belonging to the lawmaker was sealed by the Rivers State Government over alleged involvement in illegal bunkering.

Igwe said he was being victimised by Governor Nyesom Wike for supporting Atiku.

  • AA says alliance with PDP is only for presidential race

AA says alliance with PDP is only for presidential race

Action Alliance (AA) party, has said that its merger and alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was only for the presidential race, while the party remained a single entity in other elective positions.

This is contained in a communique issued on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. James Vernimbe, the AA National Secretary.

Vernimbe said that the decision was a unanimous resolution arrived at after the party’s National Think Tank Committee (NTTC) meeting held on Feb. 17.

“The NTTC meeting of the party held on 17th February 2023, and unanimously among other things resolved as follows.

“That the party will support PDP and the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar/Senator Ifeanyi Okowa ticket for the 2023 general election.

“This is because the PDP and Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa have agreed to run government of national unity.

“This alliance is only for the 25 February 2023, Presidential Election, and every other legislative/executive positions of the party for the 2023 general election is to be contested by the candidates sponsored by the party.

“Except where necessary, the party at that level can form alliance with other political parties with due consultation with the national leadership of the party before such endorsement will be made,” he said.

He urged all AA members across Nigeria and beyond to mobilise and vote for the PDP presidential candidate.

Vernimbe also said that the resolution of the NTTC is in the overall best interest of the party and that it supersedes any other that may be put forward by any person or group of persons claiming to be speaking for AA.

He added that the resolution is also binding on all AA members across Nigeria and beyond.

According to him, the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Hamza Almustapha, had left the party in a state of helplessness and confusion with his lack of interest to contest and win the presidential election.

“Dr Hamza Almustapha, presidential candidate of the party, based on collective acknowledgement of the highest caucus of the party, has not put all the required technical input to show seriousness in contesting the 2023 presidential election.

“Because since he emerged as presidential candidate of the party on 9 June, 2022, he has not shown any seriousness that he is contesting to win.

“This informed the decision to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP for president and vice president, who have approached the party for collaboration among all the other presidential candidate,” he said.

He added that “no individual, no matter highly placed, can put a registered political party in a situation of complete helplessness such as being neither here nor there, particularly as it relates to change of guard or formation of a new government.

“The party remains supreme and shall always defend and protect the interest of its member,” he said.

The national secretary urged Nigerians to support Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and his team in ensuring that the 2023 general elections was free, fair, transparent, credible and violent free.

He also urged all security agencies on election duty to remain neutral and protect all Nigerians irrespective of party and religious affiliations before, during and after the elections.

2023 polls: Osinbajo support groups endorse Atiku for president

The Osinbajo Support Groups, a bipartisan organisation has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The groups stated this in statement signed by Mr. Sunnie Chukumele, Chairman, and Mr. John Elemi, Secretary on behalf of the groups on Thursday in Abuja.

The groups said they took the decision having considered Atiku`s track record as an astute politician and experienced public servant.

The groups said Abubakar had shown over time that he does not have a vaulting ambition, as he had made sacrifices for the political stability of the country.

“In our analysis before arriving at a choice of candidate to support outside the APC candidate, we looked at critical variables, comparing the present and future of our dear country.

“He is the most qualified of all the candidates based on cognate experience at the presidency of Nigeria, haven served as Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for years.

“Abubakar has built and maintained social bridge and networks of lasting friendships across every constituency in Nigeria. He has eternal relationship with all regions of Nigeria’’, the group said.

The group said it was convinced that Abubakar has the political experience and network to lead the country.

“At this material time in our national history, the Southwest and South- South and the Northwest have taken shots at the presidency, leaving out the Southeast, North Central and Northeast.

“The Constitution of Nigeria has always guaranteed equity and fairness as an enabler for a just society.

“Be it known to everyone, that the leaders of these support groups and stakeholders have undertaken this migration on their own as consenting adults without the prompting and mandate of  Osinbajo,“ the groups said.b

  • 2023 Elections: I’m capable of defeating Tinubu anytime – Atiku

2023 Elections: I’m capable of defeating Tinubu anytime – Atiku

Ahead of the February 25th general elections in the country, the  Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has boasted that he would defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) even if the election is postponed.

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization has advised the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign to end the hope and belief that the election would be postponed.

The statement was contained in a statement signed and released by the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization  on Tuesday morning.

The Atiku-Okowa Campaign organization said the generality of Nigerians reject the pressure by the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign for the postponement of the election.

According to the  spokesman of the campaign, Kola Ologbondiyan, the ploy by APC  to lobby the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to postpone the election will create confusion and derail electoral process.

He said “The demand for postponement by the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign is a ploy to further create confusion and derail the electoral process”.

The Atiku Campaign reminded the Tinubu Campaign of how the governor of a prominent North West State was said to have been humiliated at the last Council of State meeting where he reportedly went to push a failed memo for the postponement of the election for a few weeks.

“Our campaign has also been reliably informed that this APC governor is demanding the postponement because the APC Candidate, Tinubu, cannot by any measure win the election, given his overwhelming rejection by Nigerians.”

“It is pathetic that after its defeat at the Council of State meeting, the Tinubu Campaign is still perching around media platforms and seeking for the postponement of the elections,” Ologbondiyan said.

According to the statement “having been stunned by the rejection at the meeting, the Tinubu Campaign had resorted to inciting violence, making wild, unfounded and reckless accusations, posting incendiary remarks, attacking prominent Nigerians, blackmailing and seeking to compromise our democratic institutions in order to heat up the polity and make it appear unconducive for elections to hold on February 25, 2023.”

According to INEC the presidential and National Assembly election will hold on the 25th of February 2023 across all polling booth in the country.
